I am a fan of the variety that they offer here. The menu is very extensive but most of it is rice/noodle/macaroni. I ordered the corn and chicken with cream sauce and rice yesterday and it was just A-OK. I've definitely had better dishes here like the baked clam and mushroom rice one is really good! The most popular thing to order seems to be the porkchop of course. The portions are pretty big for the price! They sometimes offer you free soup as well and the service is always fast and friendly. My wife and I have lunch here three times a week and my family dine here at least twice a week. We live next to Top Cafe, another Hong Kong style cafe in Cupertino, but we wouldn't mind driving out of the way to come to this place. The food is very Hong Kong style and the milk tea has the right octane of favor. One warning though: For those of you who are watch his/her calorie intake, salt, fat, etc., you have to choose from the menu wisely. The Big Brother bake rice sounds good: Egg sunny side up, pork chop, spam, hot dog, fried rice, toped with bake cheese sauce. There is enough calorie for a marathon and back! We came here since it's located in the same center as the bowling alley. They were able to accommodate our bigger group and it was nice that there was no wait. The menu is quite extensive here, and they even have menu items listed on the wall. After looking at the menu a long time, I finally decided on the pork chop over rice dish. The portion sizes are huge here! My dish wasn't bad, but I wouldn't necessarily order it again. They also give you garlic bread, soup, and a dessert (jello) at the end of your meal. Our go-to dish is the baked spaghetti with fried egg. Anything with the red and white sauce is bomb too. Perfect place for not-too-late night munchies. Cheap and made to satisfy your taste buds. Nothing more, nothing less. You're not here for a Michelin star level of service and cleanliness. You definitely won't get it. On the way to the bathroom, you can look in the little window on the left. You may be able to see some pretty interesting...things there. Tubs of sauce were just laying out when I was there once. We had no idea how long they were there, but there's a saying I have that says the best places are the grungiest and the cleanest places. NOPE. Never again. I love Hong Kong cafes and was really excited to be living close to an inexpensive one that opened late. I stopped by late night with a friend and we ordered fries to share, and two drinks -- a Hong Kong milk tea and a milk tea with red bean. The fries were mediocre at best, which is a wonder since it's hard to mess up fries. They were soggy and sticking to each other when they came other, and reminded me of fries that had been left out for far too long. The drinks were both TERRIBLE. My Hong Kong milk tea had a sour aftertaste to it (I've had plenty of Hong Kong milk teas, and therefore knew this was not normal) and my friend's milk tea with red beans had an extremely sandy texture to it, that didn't seem to be from the red beans. When we asked the servers about it, they just kind of shrugged and went "oh that's just what the drinks are like" without offering any solutions. All in all, I wouldn't come back again. The food is mediocre, the drinks are bad, and the service is abysmal. Not many redeeming points here. read more

Love this place for good-old cantonese/hong kong meal!! It's our family's "Go-To" place when we can't decide where to go, or when we need a late dinner. The service is fast and they'll pretty much make any Chinese dish you want. The prices are reasonable, which is great for our large family and friends. We're also glad that it has convenient parking! I really can't complain about these little HK cafe. It's open really late and it gives you generous portions of HK fusion cafe food. That means your sandwiches and fries, Asian friend wings, baked spaghetti, soups, fried rice, the menu is extremely extensive and mind boggling as most HK cafes are. The food itself is very comforting, arrives extremely quickly, always hot. For me, it's a little bit of the homeland, so I'm always really happy with the taste. However, it's not something I would call absolutely delicious, but when you crave it, you crave it, you know?! This is a good choice in Cupertino because it's clean and the service is pretty fast. I came back home for spring break, and one of the first thing my parents said to me was: we have to take you to this new breakfast place we found tomorrow! Apparently, one of our family friends recommended the place to my parents. We got there at around 10:40 (their breakfast ends at 11 AM), and the place was completely full. We didn't have to wait long though before we were quickly seated. They have many breakfast combinations to choose from and each set comes with complimentary hot milk tea and a side dish of either chow mien or chang fen. The serving size was quite generous and I really enjoyed the porridge. The best part was the milk tea after our filling meal. The owner was super friendly - talked to my parents about how he personally prepares the dishes and his wife prepares and brews the milk tea in this special way to make it not - and made sure everything was to our liking. What a crappy Hong Kong cafe. It's like a weird FOB interpretation of American food, where their "spaghetti" looks like the sauce came out of a watered down bucket of tomato sauce. The first time I wasn't impressed with the pork chop over rice. The second time we came here for dessert, and I ordered the mango ice cream over black rice. I was here for lunch with co-workers the other day. I grabbed the Hainan Chicken meal set. I was surprised at how quick it came out, which was less than 10 minutes or so with a busy crowd. The chicken was cold, as expected, and pretty decent. I definitely would have preferred more spices on the side, but I was fine with chili paste. I love how my co-workers were like "ugh why does it taste like ice" on my meal as they were eating their soggy beef chow fun. It's supposed to be eaten cold, silly. Cheapest meal I've had in a while...$6.95 for a bowl of beef noodle soup? Count me in! Unfortunately, I can't say that the food is REALLY good, but it's alright. Lots of variety, service is quick, prices are cheap (cash only though), you can't really ask more more! The beef noodle soup I got was ok. Portion size was decent. The meat was ok, but the veggies were a little undercooked. The soup was on the bland side, but not bad, and thankfully, not salty! It's a pretty clear/light broth. The noodles that they use in this dish aren't really the noodles that come to mind when you think of beef noodle soup...they're the super thin rice noodles. Not bad, just not my personal preference. So would I come back here? Probably. There are so many options and the prices are great, so I'm definitely willing to give some of their other dishes a try. read more

Normally I go to the Venus Cafe in Newark since I live nearby, but I was in the area and decided to come here. I ordered the Baked Pork Chop Spaghetti. It tastes slightly better than the one in Newark. Along with the spaghetti, I got free soup, and free dessert. I love how they always give free appetizers and desserts. Venus Cafe is my favorite Hong Kong Cafe. The portions are always huge and tasty. There's always leftovers unless you're a big eater. The food is cheap and definitely worth every penny. This location is a lot smaller than the original in Newark. The booths aren't as comfortable either. Service is fast and polite. The food tastes about the same. read more

I'm just nuts about getting food around 11 or midnight, and this place is perfect. I'm not looking for the healthiest food, but at the same time I'm not looking for a big fat greasy burger. The #1 here, baked rice with pork chop, a chicken wing and red&white sauce, is really really good. My friend brought me to the one in Newark, and I was instantly hooked. I mean, its kinda similar to what you get in Hong Kong as well, but just a little different in terms of the taste and maybe the difference in type of ingredients. The portion size is more than generous, and the price is decent for around $9 excl. tip and tax. If you're looking for a small little cantonese cafe with waiters who can speak to you in cantonese, and you are craving cantonese cafe food, then this is the place for you. I use to be crazy about Top Cafe on De Anza Blvd, but this place is 100 times better. It is smaller, but it feels cozier and the food is also way better. In hindsight this place should probably only get 3 stars, but because the # 1 is just so amazing, and the fact that it reminds me of home, I'll give it 4/5. read more

I use to go to the Venus cafe in San Jose off of Hostetter pretty often. That place is relatively new and more clean and modern. Since I moved to Sunnyvale this Venus cafe is closer to me so I decided to try it. I was surprised how different it looked compared to the other one. It's smaller and a lot older. The seats were covered in black duct tape. Like many Chinese restaurants you can pretty much sit wherever you want. It was 10pm on a Monday night so it wasn't crowded. There was a special menu and then they had their regular menu. I noticed they had way less choices than their other location but they still had similar foods. I was craving chow fun so I ordered their beef chow fun dry and a ice lemon tea. I love Chinese ice lemon tea because you crush the lemon slices yourself to get the lemon flavor and the tea is way better than american tea. The drink was really good. The chow fun itself was just ok, but the beef was tender. It lacked flavor so I had to use soy sauce. Never a good sign! Their portions are always very big. It can probably feed two unless you eat a lot lol. Also their forks were dirty. :( I prefer their newer location in SJ. They only had one waiter but he was very nice and attentive. I may go back though if I have late night cravings since they close pretty late. read more

My husband and I are huge fans of this HK style restaurant. The food and service is great! We come here at least 3 times a week now. We love their Chinese version of happy hour where they have a variety of meals for $4.95 including coffee or milk tea. For $0.99 more, you can make it an iced beverage. They have a great selection from french toast, beef noodle soup, to pork chop over rice. They're salt and pepper chicken wings are addicting as well! Adding another star for me is that they are now opened for breakfast from 8-11am daily and they have HK style breakfast. My husband gets American style breakfast (steak and eggs) while I get "jook" and soy sauce chow mein. Their jook was a little watery, but their noodles soups and omelettes are delish. I don't know why Yelp has two separate listings for this place, but Cafe Tam and Venus cafe is the same thing. This is the best Hong Kong cafe i've been to in the bay!! I've tried most of the ones in the bay and most can't compare with this. The prices are reasonable for the area. Around $10 per plate. I got the signature #1 with the fried chicken wing and baked pork chop and it did not disappoint at all! I also got the Portuguese Sauce Beef Stew baked and it tasted perfect. The staffs were extremely welcoming and nice. I will be back again if it's within the area. The #1 is a must try. read more

The soup is good, it doesn't taste like water cooked in noodle. It really taste like real soup. Calamari is a bit salty, but okay. For around $9 you can get what I estimate is 2000 calories worth of umami - a glowing yellow Portuguese rice plate built using a pound of cooked rice and a boneless porkchop slab, and slathered with a yellow cheese sauce. Tea is free and thank goodness because you need the drink to cut through all that sauce. If you are a little worried about calories, choose the beef stew noodle soup instead for around $6. You get a cup of hot milk tea as a bonus for choosing wisely. read more

Let me qualify this and say that it's 4* for Cupertino. If this place was in LA, I'd give 3* at most. I was home for a visit and my friend and I wanted to find a place to chat but oh no, it was 10pm on a Thursday. You know what that means, Cupertino - you can go to BJ's, TGI Friday's, Donut Wheel, or a couple of Asian cafes. So of course we headed to BJ's. After trying to park for 10 minutes, we gave up on the idea of getting a buzz and went to Venus Cafe. On the door it said that it closes at midnight so that was kind of promising. The inside was crowded, a bit unsanitary, and chaotic. But seriously, where else would we have gone if we left? So we found seats in the corner and ordered some fried chicken wings off the snack menu (& it came with a hot milk tea) and #1, the baked pork chop dish. I also got a hot chocolate. The food was better than I thought it was going to be (but let's keep in mind that I had really low expectations). I couldn't tell if the place was trying to make fun of fobs or if it really was fobby. The waitress didn't speak proper English. She tried to tell us that the milk tea need more time to "make itself." Ok? When the self-made milk tea came, I thought it was a bit on the small side. And what's up with the "Toilet, One Place, One Dream" sign? The menu also had so many English typos; you would think they would've asked someone to proofread it before printing out dozens of copies. Anyway, by 11:30, all of the other customers had left (to go to sleep?) and it was just the 2 of us. The staff dropped off the bill to hint to us to leave and cleaned up everything and just started looking at us funnily. At 11:45, we gave in and left. We sat in the car for a moment to see if we could figure out where else to go but I don't think we had any options left at that point so we went home. They didn't have a whole lot of pictures on the menu so it was difficult to figure out what I wanted just based on the poor English translation. I ended up ordering the baked pork chop with rice. It came with a choice of tea or coffee so I had coffee. The lunch plates came out on a plate with dividers which reminded of an airplane meal. The pork chop was thin with lots of batter and a gob of some gravy-like sauce. The pork had lots of fat which I had to cut off that it wasn't quality food at all. This is a small tight fitting restaraunt - so if space is a problem for you, don't go here and conclude with a bad review. the dish I usually order is the #1 special baked porkchop with, ying yang tomatoe and cream sauce, with a fired chicken wing, and fried egg. This is trully a bang for the buck and most of the time I am left to bring half or more home for another meal. i have also tried their deep fried salt and pepper chicken wing, this is pretty good as well. The wings come out cooked perfectly with tossed jalepeno and salt, still crispy upon arrival. I also had the pleasure of trying their curry chicken dish - not a traditional curry but a think like curry gravy. It taste okay in my opion. Serivce can be a hit or miss... generally when the owner is there, service seams to be top notch... Ordered the M34. which is the XO sauce & chicken stir fried ramen noodles. The portions are well worth it as it nearly filled up the bowl. The dish had a nice spice kick to it and it was a tolerable kind of spice. They spoke mainly Cantonese and service was very prompt and decent for a Chinese restaurant. You can just show them the letter and number if you don't know how to say the dish in Cantonese to them and they'll get what you want. Lots of parking in the lot, they only have one bathroom per gender. Lots of Chingrish signs surrounding the main register and surrounding areas, really wondering if a lot of things are lost in translation as they don't make any sense when you read them in the English words they provide. This place is best if you're trying to do something really casual, low key. Food isn't bad for the price. The stand outs would be the beef chow fun and the oxtail stew. There are a lot of dishes served with rice, so you won't have any shortage of that. However the rice quality isn't the best. This kind of food is best with a group of at least four because then you can order a bunch of smaller dishes and share them. The only thing I find strange is their choice of colors for the interior.
