Cocktails are everything!! I'm a sucker for yummy drinks that hide the alcohol and this place does very well in doing just that! I came here on Saturday night for a company party and I was pleasantly surprised. The entrance is very discrete and you have to go downstairs for the actual place. Inside is very dark and mysterious but I love the decorations with all the old newspaper and what not. I tried one too many drinks but I remember how all of them taste and they were all very delicious! The first drink I tried was the Long Goodbye. I asked for a sweet drink recommendation and she was right! I think this would be my favorite one. I tried the Ava Gardner and this was very similar to a Moscow Mule to me. They used Jasmine Tea infused Vodka... how unique! I also tried Field Spot and this drink tasted very refreshing to me. Especially with the cucumber taste! Lastly, I decided to get a Tequila Mule and I was a little disappointed because I couldn't taste much tequila but it was the end of the night anyways.. This is my third time coming to local edition & first time back since the pandemic. It is as great of an experience as I remembered! We came here earlier tonight (Thursday) and was able to enjoy the live jazz band playing the whole night. The ambience was great and the interiors were decorated with old newspapers and typewriters, resembling a speakeasy. The bar is incredibly spacious too, perfect for groups as well as people on dates. The drinks were so delicious. We ordered the Ava Gardner ($14) and the Rko ($14). The Ava Gardner was still as good as I remembered - tastes very fruity and refreshing. The Rko definitely has a stronger alcoholic taste and you can distinctly taste the Japanese whiskey. It does have a sweet syrupy aftertaste which I liked. This was the last stop of our bar hopping night in SF and I honestly love that it was underground. We were there pretty early before the music started playing and not too many people were there yet. I'll definitely have to come back to fully experience everything. I had the Ava Gardner and that is a must try. 4 stars simply because I find the drinks to be quite expensive. I've been to Local Edition twice now, and both times it has been delightful and fabulous. It's dark and gives a cozy speakeasy vibe, as it is located below street level so there's no natural light. They have jazz music playing and it offers a casually romantic atmosphere. The employee are very friendly and attentive and the drinks are delicious! The Brass Check is a whiskey favorite and they do a mean espresso martini. I'd recommend making a reservation to ensure you can get a table because sitting down to enjoy yourself and your conversations is really the way to go. Local Edition has absolutely made it onto my list of favorite city spots, and I'll be spending happy hours here for years to come! read more

We arrived a little before 10pm, got our IDs checked, and made our way downstairs. I ordered the Ava Gardener ($14). This drink consisted of jasmine tea infused vodka, coconut milk, lemon, ginger, bitters, and basil. It's shaken and served on the rocks. The Ava Gardener is super unique and the flavors are rich, aromatic, and refreshing! This drink was definitely well-made and each ingredient came together properly to make this fantastic drink. There was also live music playing when we got there. However, by 10pm, all of the tables were taken so we just stood around the bar and open area. Local Edition is a solid spot to grab drinks with friends, with a date, or with a large group of people. I recommend paying it a visit if you haven't already. read more

Entrance area goes for new/publishing decor and has a few tables away from the madness while the main room has a stage (with live music), large bar, and tons of booths and tables. Great for groups, probably good for dates but a little loud if you want to talk the night away. - A lot of the non reservation seating has no views of the stage because of pillars blocking it. Bummer but not the end of the world. - Bar staff were great - recommendations, fun to talk to and quick. Amber was super personable. - One of the better espresso martinis in town. Other drinks were good as well, albeit it is EXPENSIVE. - Music was nice and adds to the vibe but not very impressive musicians. Could have been an off night. - It gets LOUD. Be warned. DRINKS The drinks here are so amazing. They have a wide range of spirits as well, so there's definitely a drink for everyone, which I don't see often. We've tried every drink on the current menu and they're all fantastic. RECOMMENDATIONS My favorite is between the local edition and RKO, which I'd go for if you like old fashioneds and whiskey. I recommend Silver Mirror for your classic martini, Ava Gardener if you like sweetness, but not too sweet. Cynthia's Pearls is my go-to sweeter drink, but Brass Check is great if you want a fruity drink. ATMOSPHERE/EXPERIENCE The ambiance of this place is unbeatable. It's so very romantic and quaint, not sloppy or boozy. A snug, underground hideaway spot that makes you feel like you've been transported into a different time. Fantastic live jazz music (shout out to the Cosmo Alleycats, they're absolutely amazing!) where people will start jazz dancing. We've always come on weekend nights, and there's always been live music. SERVICE Everyone here is very sweet! It gets a little hectic sometimes, but a server will get to you and take your order, or you can go up to the bar and get a drink/start or add to your tab to bring back to your table at any time. Also, they check for ID and vaccination before you can head into the bar. SEATING You can make a reservation to make sure you get a table, but you can also just walk in and see if they have any empty tables or drink at the bar. There's always been some open unreserved tables on the weekends that we've been! We make reservations, but I wouldn't imagine it being a problem if you went spontaneously. OVERALL This is one of my two favorite bars in the city. The drinks are wonderful and the atmosphere itself is so quaint and other worldly. The theme is so well done and it truly makes you feel like you're in a different place and time. Everyone is very sweet here and it's not a hassle to get a table. I save my 5 stars for only the very best, and I will always continue coming back to this true gem! read more

Agree with the last review writer that the experience is spotty given the band(s) can cancel at the last minute and leave you hanging with just a DJ, so not the vibe intended. Pre-covid it was a bustling, standing room only kind of place and maybe it was the night we went (R&B/jazz musician was absent last night, but they could've easily informed us ahead of time as we reserved a table...and hustled down Market only to find plenty of seating and no performer!) So- I had a good time till I didn't. Band - there was a jazz/blues band playing that was so great that I still remember it as one of the best live performances I've been to. Ambience: very nice! Very lively and cozy, while being classy. Drinks: standard SF prices (15$ cocktails) but the ambience was definitely worth it. And delicious too. I don't remember how strong the drinks were, so may be they were? :D Staff- ummm.. here's where I am not sure what to tell you. The staff was mostly good, one of the bartenders was unnecessarily rude to my friend, but the manager handled the issue, and that was that. Amazing, underground cocktail bar in FiDi! Walked right in Friday after work. Inside, a well dressed body guard greets you and checks ID. Outside food not allowed but you can leave it at the door. Head downstairs and find yourself transported to a simpler, classier time. Dim lighting, plenty of space to stand or sit. Glass covers the walls and tables with vintage newspapers behind them. I spied some of the craziest headlines. One was "Divorcee Drinks 2 Poisons; May Die." Wild. The bar is cool too with these badass ladies mixing drinks on the fly. Plenty of options to choose from. I ordered a drink mixed with lemonade and something tart but delicious. Cant remember the name, but I loved it, they even added a cute little flower. Loved this place! Took my parents here for a night of jazz, and they really enjoyed themselves. The acoustics were great. Unlike the tiny NYC jazz clubs, there was plenty of space here. This place is dope. The vibe is great. The staff is also awesome. However, one young lady, who says her name is amber, was very unpleasant this evening. A group of us, came in laughing and giggling to the bar for our first drink of the night. She asked us to cut it out or leave. She was not even our bartender. Our bartender, Carlos, felt the hostility, and asked her to fix her attitude. She continued. Having ordered $200 of drinks, we didn't want to leave without finishing our drinks. She continued w the stink eye to our group and made us real uncomfortable. Due to the unpleasant experience, we pounded our drinks, wrote this message, and exited the premises. The drink was definitely tasty and a bit on the stronger side. The bartenders treat their cocktails like art and take their time crafting and mixing the perfect concoctions. Local Edition's environment is incredibly dark and has an air of secrecy - similar to what you'd find in a speak easy. My first time at Local Edition was a treat! This downstairs hidden gem was a surprise hideaway on Market Street. The ambiance was top-tier, the drinks were reasonably priced, and the live music was great. I have to give a special shout out to Saint (the doorman) who was a special welcome to this amazing bar. We were in the mood to grab some drinks and after a little stroll on the Yelp page came across Local Edition. It was very easy to get to, and since it was close to our hotel we walked there. We walked in and showed our IDs and took a staircase downstairs and it was like walking into the 1930s. The band was already playing some smooth jazz, the lights were dim, they had some tables along with booths against the wall. The place was decorated very casually yet chic. I went to the restroom and was amazed to find all these vintage newspapers in frames on the wall. There was an old typewriter as decor next to the sink as well. Great attention to detail. The tables also had small vases with one lilac flower in them. We went to the bar to order some drinks, and I loved that the menu had a photo of the glass cup next to each drink, indicating what your drink will be made in. I love this because sometimes you want a bigger drink and when you order it comes in a smaller cup. So this made it extremely easy to order. I got the Lieutenant General drink and second round was The Romper Room. Both drinks were extremely delicious. Not too strong not too weak, just the right amount of alcohol. The bartenders were extremely friendly and super professional. They were very fast in making drinks as well. The band took a few breaks but as soon as they would come back they fill the room with their amazing melody. Every song was so beautiful and extremely pleasant to listen to. If we did not have to work the next day we would've been there all night. We will definitely be back here when we come back to San Francisco. read more

It's a very suave bar located underneath one of the busiest streets in San Francisco. You enter into a small lounge space only to reveal the larger, purple dimly-lit cocktail room where you'll be sipping for the next few hours. Ambience and overall decor? Check. Now, time for the drinks. They specialize in some pretty swanky cocktails at around $13 each. Each has it's own name with various ingredients that are meant to excited the palette. Honestly, some had ingredients I had never heard of so there comes Google to save the day. I ordered the "Lieutenant Governor" and can say it was quite a sweet/sour mix for the tongue. Drinks that remind me of my high school past? Check. It's got the style and pizazz of any upscale city bar, and you're bound to walk past a reality TV star from your childhood days. Large bar with a high-class vibe. You can't get much more hoity toity than a live jazz band. Add in lovingly made craft cocktails and you have a young professionals heaven. Seriously, I'm pretty sure only young professionals know this spot exists because that was the entire clientele I saw. Because these are craft cocktails, it can take a while to get a drink - like a decently long time. This is one of those places that you think about double fisting just so you don't have to go back up to the bar to wait. It takes a while for each cocktail to be made! It's like a performance watching the bartender create the drinks. I got the Rosemary Clooney because I'm a huge fan of egg whites in a cocktail. It is amazing! I could definitely taste the Rosemary. Bill with tip was $17 so this is a one and done type of bar for me. I will never get drunk here, but this isn't the type of bar you go to get drunk anyways. There are tons of tables and tons of space. I'm amazed at the size of this place! I can't imagine there are ever enough people to make it uncomfortably full. Overall this is a fun place to experience while in San Francisco, but if I lived here it wouldn't be a frequent haunt for me unless you add another zero to my paycheck! read more
