Spontaneously stopped in today. What a nice find. The salmon tasted so fresh, I couldn't stop eating even though I was full. I liked that there were ample options to put on and in your bowl. Something I like to judge at poke places is their crab salad. The crab salad here was delicious. There was also a spicy option that I did not try. I liked that I can taste the vinegar in the sushi rice. A lot of other places just use plain white rice or I just can't taste the rice vinegar. Another 'Local' poke place in the Bay Area but I love their wonton Nachos!! Drove all the way here because of it, too! Barely any tables to sit anyone though. The place was recommended by Yelpers so had to try it. They didn't disappoint either. The only reason I deducted a star was for the quantity of fish they gave you. It was a little lacking to me. I shared the nachos with my daughter as it was plenty due to the deep fried wontons they provide. Loved them by itself! Pretty good sides that come with it. The Ahi and Sake poke mixed protein were good but when added to my nachos, it could have been more. Also, Sake poke mix was more sweet than spicy but good flavor. I've been on a poke kick recently, so I'm in the neighborhood for new poke spots! This one happens to be right down the road from my house and just off the Santa Rita exit on 580. The shopping center has a plethora of cool restaurants and snacks as well. The restaurant itself is small and clean, and the service was fast and friendly. However, unlike my favorite poke spot (Hawaiian Poke), this establishment doesn't label any of the bowl options, so unless you're familiar with toppings and fish, you'll have to ask what everything is. Not as many options to select from, but for the price, you definitely can't argue! The prices are very reasonable. For two people, our total was only about $20 which is way cheaper than Hawaiian Poke. With the medium bowl, you only get two options for fish. First things first, my poke was good. The poke alone probably would have garnered 4 stars, maybe 5. But man the service was pretty rough when I went in. They had someone new working the line (hopefully he was new because he had no idea what any of the ingredients were) and he was confused as heck. He had no idea what ingredient was what. He had no idea which sauce was which. He had to keep asking for help from a couple people standing in the back. I'm not completely sure why they didn't help him from the start....and why they didn't continue helping when they saw he was struggling. He also had issues ringing me out. They also had no silverware out. I went up to let them know they had no chopsticks and they said, they are out there on the table! I said yes, they would be if you had some...but you're out. Service was just a mess. I left confused with what happened. Again, loved the poke, it was all fresh, liked the options, price wasn't terrible. I've been here two times already. I found the service and food to be way better than the other poke places I've been to in the area, especially compared to Hawaiian Poke, where the employees look at you like you're annoying them. Yesterday's visit was still exemplary, even if they were missing some ingredients since it was so late the in day. The employee there was really friendly, even if he didn't make any conversation. Just having him be pleasant when asking what base protein or sides I wanted was more than enough to have me come back. Thi ls is by far hands down the best poke spot in the area and we've tried places from San Leandro, Hayward, Dublin and Livermore. We've seen the prices increase and still don't mind paying for it. Especially that blonde lady employee there who only stares at you and never smiles. That look on her face is enough to just make you wanna turn around and leave. First time I saw her, she seemed lost every time I told her which topping I wanted, but that's fine, I gave her the benefit of the doubt, maybe she's just nervous bc she's still new. But at least try to be friendly, don't just stare at customers with that condescending look jeez. Fast forward, it's been a month or two since then, same look on her face, this time she dropped a piece of mango on the counter and threw it right back in my bowl. Ew. Customers aren't stupid. Very disappointing. If you're gonna increase prices, at least maintain the quality of the food, especially if service is gonna be sucky. Probably not gonna be back any time soon. The fish quality was superb and one thing about this place that's unique is the "daily marinated protein". Today they had salmon with avocado, spicy mayo, and furikake - an amazing mix. Grabbed lunch yesterday with a friend and we were both very satisfied at the end of our meal. Local poke had a steady string of customers over the lunch hour. Staff was friendly and patient with all the folks trying to make their best poke creation. A medium bowl was more than enough for me but I may be tempted to get a large bowl next time and enjoy the leftovers later. Every now and again I get a chance to eat out in the Dublin/Pleasanton area. It's more than likely when I'm working overtime or shopping during the week. I've been craving a poki bowl and remembered I had this place bookmarked from when I was out this way for training. I took my lunch around 2:45pm and it wasn't busy. Parking was available in the front of the restaurant so that was a plus. The restaurant is pretty small but clean. The employees are nice and I even noticed they'll let you try the fish before you order. Two sizes of poki bowls are available including Medium and Large. The medium comes with two types of protein and the large comes with three. Bases include: white rice, brown rice, cucumbers or chips for an extra buck. There's about 6 different proteins to choose from including: tuna, spicy tuna, salmon, hamachi and two others. You get two sides and unlimited toppings however avocado is an extra buck. For my bowl, I got white rice with salmon & hamachi mixed with corn, edamame, jalapeños, masago, and green onion with crab salad and seaweed salad on the side. I opted for poki sauce with sesame seeds and dried garlic on top. The bowl was quite tasty, I wish the rice was just a tad stickier. The chunks of fish are sizable and even though they say its 2 or 3 scoops, I definitely got more than that. I think the "favorites" poke bowls are pretty worth it. The poke nachos was a good deal because it came with the wonton chips and avocado which are extra charge if you order it as a custom bowl. It came with a good amount of fish. I asked for extra toppings at the end like tobiko and seaweed flakes (no charge). So why the subtracted stars? -The staff would ask me the same questions after I had JUST answered the other worker.. lol -The owner/manager (?) scolded the staff like really loudly. unprofessional.. especially when customers were around. -I came with my bf and I was the one ordering.. except every time they wanted to know what kind of toppings/sauces I wanted.. they would ask HIM instead of me even though I was the one who answered each time.. I actually didn't really notice this but my bf brought it to my attention. That's pretty misogynistic if you ask me. Maybe it was just that particular employee.. but that's definitely not cool. I got the Sake Bowl $8.95, which was flavored with spicy mayo sauce. It's not that spicy. The whole combo was quite tasty, but a bit on the sweet side. And a tiny bit too much sauce, but that's nitpicking. This particular bowl came with avocado for no extra fee. I subbed white rice for brown rice, which was quite tasty for brown rice. There was no extra charge. Our "sides" were crab (not real) & seaweed salad, which were both fine. Overall, this place exceeds expectations. Sometimes, you happen to stumble into something that might be what you're looking for. Located near the Santa Rita Rd exit off I-580, Local Poke has become an easy detour when that sudden craving for a poke bowl must be satisfied. Just like majority of the mainland poke spots, Local Poke offers their patrons the option to create a customized poke bowl to their liking. Select the size, base, protein, blah-blah-blah - we all know how that works by now. What they did to separate themselves from the competition was to provide a couple of marinated choices, which could be their way of paying homage to the real deal from the island. The first ready-made item has tuna, poke sauce, sesame oil, togarashi, limu, macadamia nuts, masago, cucumber, scallion, onion, fried garlic, and ginger. The second option has salmon, spicy mayo, avocado, sesame oil, masago, scallion, fried garlic, and ginger. The fish cuts were larger than ordinary and were prepared in small trays so the fish wouldn't stay soaked for a long time; just enough to give that rather silky texture to the fish which can never be imitated by build-your-own concoctions. The experience wasn't close to a "Maguro Brothers" at Honolulu or a "Da Poke Shack" at Kailua-Kona, but it has been enjoyable. I had the chance to sample the wonton chips they use for the Poke Nachos. They were crispy and tasty... made me imagine how that whole dish would taste like with tuna, salmon, and hamachi mixed with spicy mayo then topped with buttered corn, fried garlic, fried onion, and avocado. There isn't a multitude of sides, mix-ins, and toppings, but they have the essentials (crab meat, spicy tuna, wakame, etc.). We all want to see a long list of items to choose from, but when you put too much in your bowl, it never tastes good when there's too much going on. When it comes to poke, less is more. The place has no bathroom for customers and has limited seating inside and outside.
