Was hesitant to try Local Poke because of the mixed reviews, but I'm glad I came! Like many other poke places, they run it Chipotle style. I got the medium bowl with brown rice, with 1 scoop of salmon and 1 scoop of tuna. The spicy tuna is actually SPICY so beware if you can't handle the heat like me. What I liked most about Local Poke was the HUGE chunks of poke they give you. By far the largest cubes of fish I've gotten at any poke place. They use huge spoons too, so you definitely don't get gypped on the portions. Very reasonably priced considering the what you get. I think this is one of the better poke places in the area! Prices have definitely jumped quite drastically, with a medium bowl being the smallest option you can get at around $15. I love how all the ingredients taste super fresh, and there's no extra charge for toppings that would normally cost more at another poke spot. I came right when they opened on a Thursday, and they didn't have all of the ingredients available. However, I was still able to build a pretty good bowl. Their marinated proteins are super unique and definitely my favorite! I got a medium bowl with half brown rice and half mixed greens as a base; marinated ahi, spicy salmon, and regular salmon as the proteins; and regular and crab salads as my sides. I also got a ton of toppings (almost all the ones they offer) and chose spicy poke and ponzu as the sauces. One of the employees was friendly but the other seemed like he didn't really want to be there. I LOVE this place! I come to get a poké bowl at least once a week with my boyfriend and this is easily our favorite poké spot in the tri-valley. We've tried poké from San Leandro, Castro Valley, Pleasanton, etc. and this is the best. When I go, I always get a medium bowl with white rice and one scoop of marinated tuna and two scoops of regular salmon. For the sides, I get the spicy tuna and spicy crab. For the mix-ins, I usually just get all the mix-ins besides the white onions (so the green onions, edamame, corn, cucumber, tobiko) and I ask for the poké sauce, unagi, volcano mayo, and honey wasabi. The servers usually ask you if you want sesame oil mixed in with the proteins and mix-ins and you have to say yes! They usually mix-in most of the sauces then add the volcano mayo and honey wasabi over the bowl after. For toppings, I usually get the mushrooms, kimchi, daikon, red tobiko, and sometimes the jalapeños for an extra kick. You can also choose from a variety of dry toppings, and I always just get all of them, including the hot cheetos. The fish is very fresh and the sauces are SOOOOOO GOOOOODDDD!!! The service is usually pretty good as well and the workers are all very nice. I've never had a bad experience at this place and I've been coming here for about 3 or 4 years now. I only recently got back into this spot tho, but I'm so glad I came back after a while! The prices at this restaurant compared the other poké spots in the Bay Area makes this place stand out from the rest! It is only 11.99 for a medium bowl (it comes in a box, but you can ask for the regular bowl if you'd like) and I sometimes get a kids bowl as well which is a little over $8 because I get an extra side, but it literally comes in a regular bowl so it is very worth it. Oh and side note! They also offer a side of wonton chips for only $1 and I think it's a must when it comes to poké! When they ask if you want unagi sauce drizzled over the chips, say yes! The chips pair very well with the bowls and it comes with a lot too. This poke place restaurant is legit to say the least. Walking in, the place was clean. Instantly greeted by the staff. They were definitely patient while I tried to get two orders going. This is probably the only poke restaurant in this area that actually has marinated tuna and salmon. I tried the marinated tuna, hamachi, and salmon. Each fish was beautifully fresh, no fishy taste at all. The marinated tuna was excellent. It didn't clash at all with all the other fix-ins. This poke place is my got-to, "treat yourself" place during work! The options for protein, sides, and toppings have increased in amount offered too! They offer free avocado now as a side, kimchee, and seaweed salad - just to name a few. The bowls are good size and quantity - typically I opt for a medium, which comes with 3 scoops of protein, 2 sides, and unlimited toppings. Medium bowl = 3 scoops of protein w 2 sides; Large = 4 scoops of protein w 2 sides The have pre-made mix-ins for the fish. One is a spicy salmon and the other a tuna w/ I believe ponzu sauce. The fish and ingredients are always fresh and delicious! They also have tako, hamachi, ebi, tuna, and salmon. Their sides (including the ones listed above) also has spicy and normal crab salad, spicy tuna, and wonton chips (which are SOOO GOOD, but soooo oily). As far as the service, a female helped me and she was really nice and gave good portions. There have been a couple of times that guys would help me and I'd have to constantly repeat what I wanted and my bowls weren't filled. Definitely a better experience with her! read more

This place was pretty good, I was craving poke so I stopped by on my way home from work around 3 PM. It's about $10 for a medium bowl, so that's pretty cheap. I think most other poke places charge $12 - $15 for a comparable portion. This is like your typical poke place, build-your-own or pick from pre-made options. I built my own, got the medium bowl with half-half rice and greens. For fish (3) - hamachi, tuna and salmon. Sides (2) - spicy crab salad and seaweed salad. Then you can choose your sauce and toppings. I got the spicy sauce and a bunch of toppings, I do not really recall. My first couple of bites were realllly good, I was satisfying my craving for poke. But suddenly, I got a mouthful of straight up ocean-y, fish-y taste. I first thought it was the fish, but it wasn't, it was the seaweed salad! I have had seaweed salad that tastes super fishy before and I really dislike it. Generally, the fresh one does not taste super fishy, I mainly got the seaweed salad because I like the texture when it mixes with the rice. I don't think that's how it's actually supposed to taste or if anyone actually enjoys the fishy tasting seaweed salad. Anyway... I scraped off the seaweed salad and threw it away. I don't know if anyone in the store tastes the seaweed salad before they put it out to serve to customers, but I suggest you try it every morning before putting it out so others don't have the experience I did. Overall, I would've given a 5 star review, but the seaweed salad encounter knocked off that final star for me. read more

I've been here twice within the last 2 weeks. The food is incredible, and the selection is fresh. It is fantastic! Best poke in the area.... However, the customer service of one gentleman there is very poor. This was on both occasions. He seems as though he really doesn't want to be there and that serving customers is such a huge burden on him. On the first occasion, being a brand new customer, he didn't explain how ordering was supposed to be, considering it is "Subway" style. Every answer is with a negative attitude. On the second occurrence, he seemed very rushed, didn't do a decent plate presentation, everything was just tossed into a box, and when I overheard him listening to a customer's order, he completely dismissed that the customer did not ask for a specific ingredient, and instead of fixing it, he acted as though he didn't hear what was said, and moved on. He also yelled at an employee for dropping a plastic spoon... very uncalled for. It's a damn spoon. Otherwise, if customer service isn't too important to you, this is the place to be. read more

Pros: -Tastes good -Affordable Cons: -Food Safety: I used to be in the food handling world, so at one point was a certified food safety manager by the state. There are some major food safety no-nos here, including: 1) The tongs are way too short, leading to the handles falling in the food. This makes food borne illness a guarantee, especially if you have someone that has taken a dump and hasn't washed their hands all that well. 2) The people making the poke don't use gloves consistently. 3) The people making the poke are also handling money and also not using gloves. 4) On three occasions, I've seen the poke makers handling trash and then coming back in to make poke bowls without washing their hands. 5) There was a hair and a stringy plastic thing in my poke today. Shortly after eating here today, I got sick. No bueno. -Professionalism: 1) The poke makers appear to hate their jobs. I'm not expecting the world, but please don't bring the attitude to the customers. Several times I have come in and the poke chefs are on their phone, failing to acknowledge the line of customers. 2) This gem was also on their register today; "Herro" (see photo). I was recommended this place by a friend & he said this place was great. I went here 3-4x so far and every single time I've gone they are always out of something. First time: they told me they were out of tuna and the only options were the premixed salmon and just plain salmon (which i don't eat) so i was left with just crab meat and spicy tuna mix (which was ok) Second time: they were out of romaine lettuce then they changed their mind and went to the fridge or freezer and told me they would cut some up. Third time: they were out of romaine lettuce at 2pm? The worker told me "we are out of romaine lettuce for the day" i said ok which confused me because they don't close until 8p?) Another incident was my husband had to tell them he had one more protein because they were gna only give him 3 for a large side. I kept giving this place a try but every time something doesn't add up. This place has pretty good poke (don't get me wrong) but their customer service has been worse and worse every time. A new Poke place in P Town, yay something other than pacific catch for a quick lunch pick up... If you're looking ahead to order don't look at the online menu, half the things on there they don't have in store. Also the menu of toppings they have is different than what is actually in front of you, but options are good. We opted for one large bowl and one poke nachos. I should've read what was going to be in the nachos because i chose the same proteins and sides for the bowl. Oops. You can choose a side of spicy crab, crab salad, seaweed, or spicy tuna. ALL good choices. So the flavors are okay. It's not the best poke but it's not bad. Some of the workers seem friendlier than others. Do note, they have a water machine, but they were out of cups and wasn't until after 15 minutes of eating one of the workers was like.... do you want to drink out of one of the sauce cups? I also asked for the ponzu sauce that's listed on the website and my response was "we changed that months ago" I thought the establishment was relatively new but I guess if they changed their menu months ago.... It's worth a try. It's not bad, but when you've had better poke places it's hard to love this place. read more

It seemed like they were in a bad mood or didn't want to serve customers..almost as if me walking in to have a bowl made was a burden. So then I focused just on the food to decide if I was going to come back. The marinated tuna was very good. Actually the best tuna I've had in a poke bowl. The sesame salad was okay, but something tasted off. I wasn't too fond of the shrimp. The crab salad was pretty tasty. And the avocados were sitting in a metal container browning (so if you don't want fresh avocado from the pit, probably not a good place) Overall it was decent. Nothing special. They ran out of several choice entries and proteins. They first said they ran out before lunch ( we arrived at 12:30 and no one else was there.) Then they said they had a big crowd the night before and didn't have time to prepare enough.
