Local Restaurant and Bar had a lot of potential but our experience fell short of our expectations. Upon entering, we were cordially greeted and seated immediately, as we had a reservation for a large party. The wine list was pretty extensive, which was nice and the menu options seemed really inviting. The evening was starting off well. We got a bottle for the table and bread and the delicious chives butter was served. The bread was a bit cold and almost stale tasting, but the chive butter was the redeeming factor (and the wine). For appetizer, our table ordered the 3 choice charcuterie ($15) and had the elk sausage (which was fairly dry), pheasant sausage, and trout rillete (which tasted liked a glorified tuna salad). The pickles and cheeries on the charcuterie were a nice touch. For dinner I had the trout entree as I am not much of a steak person, but many of our party tried different steaks. It was actually quite impressive as the servers marched over and set the plates front of us, knowing what each of us had ordered. For half of the group with steaks, their steak temperatures were cold when served and the doneness was wrong. The kitchen was waiting for everyone's dish to be ready and that impacted the quality of how a $40 steak was cooked and served. What was more irritating was that when the steaks were sent back they were simply reheated which caused them to be tough and definitely overdone. But third time was the charm because they were finally able to get it right after that, but that also meant half the group was done eating when the other half finally got their steaks. Sides are 3 for $15 and I would recommend the Brussels sprouts and green beans. The mushrooms and spinach were extremely salty and we actually had to send the spinach back too. read more

We were visiting from out of town on holiday, and didn't have a reservation but luckily didn't have to wait at all and were seating at a table with a great view of the town square. The service at Local could not have been any better. Every little detail was taken care of promptly, without asking, and with a friendly smile. Our waitress (whose name is escaping me unfortunately) was incredibly knowledgeable about all of the specials and was incredibly friendly. She was quick to get our orders and kept a watchful eye for anything we might need without being pushy or overbearing. The food was incredible. One of the best steaks I've had (and even better knowing it was from practically a walking distance away). Cocktails were tasty, and topping the meal with a lovely dessert hit the spot. read more

The old fashioned and snowflake were the drinks to set the mood. We ordered the focaccia aka bread and butter- I judge places on the quality of bread and this place knows how to make it right. For dinner, my bf ordered the ribeye medium-rare; cooked to perfection. As a side he got the truffle Mac n cheese that had a crunchy top layer with a creamy cheese/truffle sauce with penne noodles; 10/10 recommend. I had the short rib pasta with local beef and it did NOT disappoint. Probably, the BEST short rib pasta I have ever had and the herb ricotta really tied in the dish. We were so full we got the sticky toffee pudding to-go and it was amazing after a walk around town. The service was ON POINT and the ambiance was a classy/casual. This is a fun bar and we visited during happy hour. It was jam-packed. We sat at the bar and just ordered appetizers. I had the crab cake which was very good. It came with a side of salad greens which was delightful. My husband ordered the wings with a side of french fries, which were half price for happy hour. Saw this restaurant in Frommer's Guide for Jackson, Wy. The tomato bisque soup was a special of the day and it was fabulous. The game sausage was excellent, But the sauerkraut was red pickled cabbage and not white sauerkraut. The Buffalo burger had a nice char but don't order well done or it will be dry. The food was great! DO NOT go with a large party! They will intentionally split you up to get you out faster. The place was completely empty at 5:00pm. We had made reservations about 2 months earlier. They had told us our party may have to be at two separate tables but, they would try and put us close to each other. The Hostess was so rude to us when we got there and they put us at three different tables at each corner of the room. It was so weird because, we were the only ones in the dinning room. Just so disappointing! This is a vacation town. People are going to be traveling in groups. It's just sad that they are not more accommodating to larger groups. I stopped at Local and learned their dinner menu began at 5:00 but the hostess let me view the lunch menu. Since there were about three steak options, I went in and ordered a flat steak with frites. First place we selected to dine in Jackson. Caught them between lunch and dinner menu (2:00 to 5:00) so we went to the bar. Patrick, our libations expert and bar attendee, was very helpful. He was swamped with both drink and food orders; yet, never missed a beat. (Inside joke: don't say "surprise me" as your drink order, or wave money to get his attention.) Drinks: great list of cocktails as well as beers. Very good local beers on tap. I kept reading and discovered a strong wine list. Old World, New World, affordable to requiring a second mortgage. At least on my allowance. Food: While we could not access the full menu by sitting at the bar, there were plenty of options to hit your hunger spot. My wife had the Pork Wrap. A deconstructed version with pulled pork, cabbage, leaf lettuce as the "wrap" and a Thai bbq sauce. Very good! I had the Panzanella Steak Salad. The sous vide filet was a perfect medium and folk tender. Salad topped with a burrata and dressed with an aged balsamic and EVVO. Delicious and filling. You gotta eat here! read more

Meh. We arrived at 6:30 on a Thursday and were told no tables until 8pm. Wow. Do we want to sit in the bar? Eh, okay, considering the first place we went to was closed (Whistling Grizzly, not open yet for the season). Not crazy about sitting so close to people (and we were the only masked people there) but okay. I just wanted a salad and the choice was an "arugula salad": arugula, sprinkle of cheese, spritz of lemon I couldn't taste, olive oil... $13. Beloved had a ribeye, $42. I really dislike when restaurants don't include sides - who wants JUST an entree? And it looks so mean, just the meat on the plate. Their menu doesn't talk about sides, either, so unless you're paying attention, when the waiter says "you want a side, mash potatoes maybe?" you may not realize it's an extra $8 each. There's no list of what's available. However, when the waiter described the special (Alaska halibut on a bed of I forget, chopped onions and something, $42), it kinda makes it sound like you'll get a side with your regular entree. Hands down our best meal in Jackson. I recommend making a reservation well in advance. The ambience was so nice and relaxing I enjoyed every minute of it. We got got steaks, I got the filet and my fiancé got the local steak special. His was cooked perfectly. Mine was a little under cooked but our waiter noticed right away and sent it back to be done correctly. We got the truffle Mac and cheese, mushrooms, and Brussels. All were fantastic sides. The local drink was delicious and they had a great wine selection. We loved this meal so much we were wanting to go back and comparing every meal to it. A friend and I came to Local for happy hour during a one night stay in Jackson, and it was an incredible experience! All the food we ordered was delicious, and the cocktails were to die for. We tried several cocktails, all of which were smooth and delicious. We also were lucky enough to be here during happy hour, so the prices were great ($5 per drink). My personal favorite was the Jalisco Nights, but honestly we probably tried about 5 different ones and all were great! The food we got to share was amazing as well. The focaccia was warm and tasty, and the crispy brussels were also awesome (with plenty of bacon, which was appreciated). The real highlight for me was the steak frites. I was hesitant to order this dish because I've had many good steak frites and thought that perhaps I should try something different, but I'm so glad I went for it. The steak was cooked exactly as requested (rare), the chimichurri sauce was very flavorful, and the fries were some of the best I've had! Service was great, and the restaurant was good about following covid protocols. I highly recommend this place to anyone who is stopping in Jackson (especially during happy hour)! read more

This is probably our sixth time going to local and once again we were blown away! I can typically get somebody else to share the huge steak for two but not this evening so I ended up getting the consolation prize of elk chop. The elk chop was awesome. I'd recommend it with the green peppercorn sauce on the side and some foie gras. My wife who doesn't eat meat but had a tremendous blackened trout with polenta. Server was wonderful. Oysters were fresh and had great flavor. Arugula salad was also fresh but a little too heavy in the lemon. The Filet, Elk chop, and sides of mashed potatoes and roasted beets were pretty decent but not memorable by any means. I absolutely loved my dinner experience here. Everything--food, service, and ambiance--was top-notch. First of all, I was really glad they could take a same-day dinner reservation for a large group and were later flexible enough to still give us a table when the size of our group turned out much smaller than planned. We had the buffalo tartare and bread & butter as appetizers, followed by trout amandine and Buffalo Wellington as entrees. We were really satisfied with all of our selections (though I do wish that the Buffalo tartare came with crackers or bread instead of potato chips, and that the trout was accompanied by more than just green beans). Sometimes a restaurant you're looking forward to visiting is a bust, that happened to us here. The buffalo tartare was just bad. Chances are that the meat was off, it was so gamey that we couldn't eat it. The buffalo Wellington was much better. The butter poached lobster tail (at $60 for a small tail) was not well prepared and totally overpriced. The charcuterie was pretty good, particularly the smoked kielbasa, but other than that it was a very mediocre meal that didn't live up to the hype. read more

The cook doesn't know the difference between medium-rare and medium. That's really disappointing considering this is a fairly high end restaurant in Jackson, Wyoming. Wyoming is also known worldwide for their beef cattle, so again, to employ a chef that doesn't know how to properly cook a steak to medium, is disappointing. I requested a medium steak and received something in between medium-rare and rare. Very bloody, dark red, and just ever so slightly browned on the outsides. The fries were very mediocre. I ordered regular fries and my husband ordered truffle fries; I tried the truffle fries...meh. We both ordered the steak frites for reference. My husband was rather happy with his steak; he ordered his to medium well and it was definitely more of a perfect medium. This may not be that big of a deal to some people, but as a steak connoisseur, I appreciate the skill of a chef/cook that recognizes the difference in doneness in a great steak. Also, the flavor of the steak was just sooooo OFF. I can't even pinpoint it; it had a weird propane/charcoal hybrid flavor that was just so off putting. I'd never eat here again honestly. The only upside is the meal was cheap as far as meals in this area go. Lastly, the waiter called me SIR, more than once. Idk if that is just how he addresses everyone, male or female, but I found it to be somewhat unprofessional and rude. I am a woman that has a deep voice via genetics, but I'm unmistakably a woman nonetheless.
