Had dinner here last night . We had never been before and bought a groupon to try it. We thought it was on the water. It is but you wouldn't know it from inside the restaurant. No windows on the water side. Service was great but the fact that very few people were there on a Saturday evening wasn't a good sign. Food was mediocre at best. Crab cake one of the worst I have ever had - did not taste crab at all! Not sure what it was......My husband's flounder was a little better. Everything was cold including broccoli and mashed potatoes. Odd since it was not like they were busy and couldn't get the food out hot. Would not return. read more

Stopped in for breakfast and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly! Food was great, service was great and prices are reasonable. We will be back.

Stopped into Lockside for dinner and it was wonderful. The hamburger sandwich was excellent. So tasty. The desserts are to die for. The cheesecake was especially good. Service was great the girls are all very friendly and I would recommend this to anyone for good food, good service and all overall super! read more

Wow Chesapeake has needed a restaurant like this for a long time! Just a short walk from intercoastal locks, our family was greeted warmly and served a gourmet meal of soft shell crabs, chicken, and shrimp meals and plied with a great House Pinot Noir while listening to live acoustic guitar master named Vinnie. Had to pass off our kids to big sister and return as the bar selection and value was hard to miss out on. Owner and wait staff enjoy what they do here and it shows. Warm and friendly atmosphere and great food. We will be back and stake our reputations on this awesome spot! read more

I don't eat here as often as I should since it's so close to the house but I stopped in last week to escape the heat. That being said, I've often had the meatball appetizer and love it's heat plus the serving size. The reason for this review is the cheese steak sandwich. I was stationed in Philly and often swing by when traveling north to get a Pat's "steak wit" so I like to consider myself a snob when it comes to cheese steaks. Yes, I know there's better places in Philly to go but call me a creature of habit. Lockside's sandwich has amazing sliced prime rib, perfectly seasoned onions and peppers, and bread that is light but strong enough to handle the amount of deliciousness that's piled inside of it. The cheese goes on the bottom so it isn't too messy as you're tearing into it. The fries that accompanied it were seasoned just right. Do yourself a favor and get the best cheese steak in Chesapeake, and second behind Taste of Philly in Norfolk. read more

Although the food was great and the Chef, Brian was extremely professional however, Dustin the owner and manager is less than professional. I sat at the bar and Dustin's clothes looked like he had pulled them out of the dirty laundry and his demeanor with other customer not to mention his employees was horrible. My family and I are strong supporters for anything local! Thats why we wanted to try Lockside last Thursday night. We arrived for dinner, and was seated promptly. The dining room was about 3/4 full. We waited about 15 minutes before our server finally made an appeareance at our table and took our drink order. we admired the interior design as being very clean and warm and great use of colors. The menu was a bit confusing to read, not very clear to describe the entrees. Limited items, not bad, feel it could be better rounded. My wife ordered the chicken with ham, cheese with risotto ( reminded me of chicken cordon bleu ). Oldest son ordered chicken sandwich, youngest ordered flatbread with tomato and cheese, I ordered the cajun shrimp, chicken, andouille and peppers. Had to asked explanation of the dish, our server explained its a pasta dish..."people ask about this alot" was her explanation since its not clear as to what the dish is served with. I also ordered a side salad, wihich only arrived 30 seconds before the entree and no dressing was brought out because she failed to ask me what i wanted. Food was fair, taste and presentation was fair. although, I beleive the restaurant is trying to showcase itself as a fine dining location, the plates sizes did not match the portions and odd shapes and design for wrong items. Service could be better with better training. I fault that to the management team. But all this did not stop us for trying again on saturday morning for their advertised breakfast menu! We returned back by 10am saturday looking for breakfast and was told they didnt open till 11 for lunch! What happened to breakfast!!?? Again we want to support local businesses..and came back to try lunch. Lunch..OK..needs some work. I asked about breakfast and was informed by our server that they are not doing breakfast yet! She informed us that " Dustin" wanted to make sure breakfast is perfect before they start it. Ok...then why did they list the menu as a Brunch with breakfast items if you arent serving it!? Also, if you need to practice the menu the best way to do it is open for service and fine tune after wards. We want to support the location, but if youre not ready to open then you should have better training and soft opening to work out your bugs! I try not to be critical for these things, but, I am a professional chef and former resturant owner of three concepts for over 20 years. When people think they can open restuarants because its their dream..think again..its not easy to do and maintain. Get the proper training for your FOH staff and BOH team to gel together, managers need to be more visible and available and for guests responses. ( table checks )...This location can be very successful and awarding for the Great Bridge area. Its eye pleasing and comfortable..but please decide how you want your concept to operate and train accordingly. New place,anxious to try it.Went on a Wednesday night, no wait to be seated.Pleasant hostess and nice decor.We ordered fish and chips and shrimp primavera. We received our drinks. we then waited and waited for our salads to be served. People who came in after us were served salad before us.We waved down our server to ask about our salad. The kitchen is open and we observed our meals sitting under warming lights, waiting to be picked up.A few minutes later our meals were served. Still no salad. Another 5 minutes and they arrived. We were satisfied with the fish and chips.The shrimp primavera was served in an unusual shaped bowl with asymmetrical sides. Although pretty to look at there was no way to rest your fork, I had to place it on the placemat.The dish had 6 shrimp over a half cup of spaghetti sprinkled with chopped tomato and chives. No other vegetables were included in the dish. The dish was good and the shrimp properly cooked. We ate the salads after our main course, as we did not want our meal to get cold. Our waitress never stopped voluntarily at the table. We had to ask for tea refills, but it took a long time to get them. The hostess noticed our empty glasses and hurried over to get refills. Later our waitress brought only one serving of tea to the table, did not seem to notice we already had refills. Very disappointing experience. They have a lot to work out. read more

We went to Lockside for brunch on Memorial Day. Surprisingly, it was not busy at all with less than half of the tables being occupied. Thirty minutes after ordering our food, our waitress, Christina, had not been by our table to refill coffee or water and, as we soon found out, had not yet even put in our food order. An hour later, we finally received our food which was cold and bland. Christina did not reappear for another hour and when we asked to speak to a manager, she told us there was no management in that day and that they were unable to compensate us at all. She made no effort to remedy the situation and proceeded to blame us for not telling her that we were unsatisfied sooner. While ringing in our bills, it was clear that she was gossiping about us with her coworkers. Once she brought us our checks to be signed, she stayed at our table to watch as one of my friends wrote a note to the manager on his bill about the terrible experience we'd had. We will certainly never be returning to Lockside. read more

Ate with my parents after church. Nobody in there hardly (2 couples and a family). Figured it was 1:00 in the afternoon and lunchtime it would be a little busier. I ordered a BLT sandwich and my parents ordered a BBQ sandwich and a Turkey sandwich. The menu specified that "all sandwiches were served with French Fries OR Coleslaw"...my father said that he wanted fries....I told him he could have those or coleslaw....the waitress had no idea what I was talking about when I told her it said that on the menu (I brought it to her attention because she never asked which one we wanted) she said everything is standard with fries.. "I didn't even know that was on there".. Really? ?? Our sandwiches were ready as my mother saw them under the heat lamp over by the pass.....they have an area where the waitresses go to...they are in plain view of the patrons sitting in the dining area, I look over and our waitress had just ate something and was over there licking her fingers! I told my mother she had better not go over there and touch my food! (Luckily someone else brought them anyway or I would of said something). Another waitress was back there texting on her cell phone. My BLT tasted like they did not drain the bacon very well. Didn't think you could mess up a BLT, my mothers sandwich was bland, and my dads BBQ was just o.k. Our waitress walked by several times when we were done and NEVER cleared our dirty plates from in front of us. She even brought over the bill and put it in the middle of the table and STILL did not clear away the dirty dishes. Wow. We paid for it and left. Will not be going back. Glad we went just for lunch, I would hate to see how the food would taste and the service would be during dinner time. Menu also was TO MANY choices of food. You need an hour just to read it. Though we were seated quickly on arrival, the server left the specials menu page on the corner of our table with the wine list. I'm not sure if she forgot it there or that is protocol. The specials were not explained or offered. I had to pick them both up and look at them to figure out what they were. I ordred a seafood pasta dish which was good but not great. My daughter ordered a shrimp scampi; same, good but not great. My fiance ordered the seafood platter for $29.99 and received two small scallops, four shrimp a crabcake and a boat sized (oddly large) piece of fish laid over top of his mashed potatoes. The side broccoli on his plate tasted to be warmed up raw broccoli with Hollandaise sauce. The cocktail sauce was served in a plastic fast food eatery style container and plastic/rubber place mats suited for a sandwich styled restaurant were under our plates. He said the crabcake was good but everything else lacked flavor or seasoning of any kind. The service was not bad but it was not what I would call good... if that makes sense. Now we can say we tried it but we won't be back. When we eat out, we want to feel welcome and enjoy our meals; we experienced neither. read more

Wow! Couldn't imagine a worst Friday night. Folks came from Massachusetts for a visit and the Lockside did a great job and embarrassed the whole town of Chesapeake. Four adults and two children for dinner. Started out fine with wine and drinks. Dinner took for ever and when it finally came only four of the six dinners came out. My father got fish with double broccoli which would have been fine if he hadn't ordered mashed potatoes and cole slaw. Mother got crab cakes that were cold with mashed potatoes that were not cooked and raw broccoli. Wife ordered medium rare salmon, came way overcooked and cold. When I finally got the attention with my waitress who was waiting for my sons and my food, the waitress accused my father of ordering broccoli which was insulting. I finally got my food and asked to talk to the manager who was busy being the bartender. When she came I explained part of our predicament. As we continued to eat I asked to speak to her again. She would only take my wife's meal and half the drinks off the ticket because my folks ate more than half of their food. Keep in mind they just drove from Massachusetts and were a little hungry.
