Strolled into this cute log cabin breakfast joint randomly after finding out our first choice for lunch is strangely not open on Wednesday afternoon. The parking lot seemed pretty busy so I thought it was a good sign. We were greeted quickly and led to a table in the back corner. As we walked there I noticed several tables with long faces - a sure sign of less than stellar service. We were quickly served waters but agonizingly waited for our orders to be taken. Our server never introduced herself and never really introduced the specials - a sure sign she was ready for the lunch rush to be over. Food was decent. I had the ENCHILADA OMELET SPECIAL - green pepper encased in an omelet and smothered in red sauce. After being warned it was spicy I went against my better judgment and scoffed the warning off. I ordered a side of grits and the biscuits and gravy as well. The dish was spicy and delicious. The grits were overcooked and greasy. The biscuits and gravy were divine. The spices in the gravy are unique and worth coming back for again. Needless to say our server never came back to check on us. Our waters never got refilled and our to go boxes never showed up. Great breakfast place in ruidoso. Only downside is that it is crowded. Texans love it here so you have to navigate the cowboy hats and shiny rhinestone belts. All the breakfast food is good, especially the biscuits and gravy. I had the chicken fried steak and eggs with b&g and it was like 3 plates of food so you better be hungry if you get it. Reading previous reviews, it looks like this place is known for breakfast. I happened upon it for lunch though so the review is about my lunch esperience. First the good things. I really like the large open dinning room with mountain cabin decore. I didn't realize until after I was seated that I had arrived near closing. A lot of restaurant staffs can be noticably annoyed by patrons who arrive at the last minute but all I got was friendly service from the host to the waitress to the guy handing my bill at the register so kudos to the Log Cabin staff. I ordered the cheesburger with onion rings. The patty itself was hand formed (a plus in my book) but had a chemically taste to it. I get the same taste when I grill burgers at home when the grease and fat on the burger catches fire. Given the patty is supposed to be the star of the show, that's very dissapointing. The rest of the burger was well prepared though with a butter toasted sesame bun and fresh lettuce, onions, and tomato. Onion rings were good but not memorable. My diet coke was served in a bottle implying they don't have a soda fountain and customary free refills most resaurants have. A pet peeve of mine. Would not take my American Express card which is a killer deal for me when traveling on business. I would have given this restaurant another chance at breakfast but not if they won't take my AMEX. read more

This place is filthy inside! When you walk in your hit with a wall of sausage smell! And that's not a good thing! They have terrible ventilation so you will need to leave as to shower or you will smell like your breakfast all day! I could not even stay it was so stinky! read more

I have had better breakfasts at a Holiday Inn. Coffee was incredibly tasteless and watered down. I ordered the pancakes and my husband got the Belgian waffle. It was obvious that both were made from the same batter. Both the pancakes and waffle were dense, heavy and flavorless. Incredibly disappointing since a Belgian waffle should be delightfully crisp, rich and fluffy. My scrambled eggs were rubbery and my husbands "over medium" eggs under cooked. We recently had breakfast here and it did not disappoint! We wanted a big meal so we could explore all day without needing a lunch stop. It delivered and then some! The pumpkin pancakes were so tasty, the hash browns were crisped to perfection, and it was a very safe dining experience as they had taken every precaution. Holy smokes! So far this has been our favorite food place in Ruidoso. We went for breakfast this morning and we were not disappointed! We went around 11 o'clock and waited less than 10 minutes. They were packed with mostly large groups but I think since it was just me and the boyfriend we got seated quickly. The atmosphere was neat, it's like being inside a large log cabin, what a coincidence lol the boyfriend got 2/2/2 2 pancakes with chocolate chips and fresh banana slices on top, 2 scrambled eggs with cheese and 2 sausage patties. He also got a side of hash browns and they catered to his request for a fresh jalapeño pepper. He had coffee and water to wash it all down. I got the waffle with 2 over medium eggs and substituted for a slice of thick cut ham. I also asked for strawberries to put on top of my waffle. I was a little disappointed that the strawberries weren't fresh but frozen but it didn't make that much of a difference to me. They actually have a little syrup dish filled melted butter to pour over your food, we thought that was awesome. The waffle was so light and fluffy! It was amazing! The chocolate chip pancakes were DELICIOUS and we couldn't get over the quality of the sausage patties. Our waitress was Raquel I think, we couldn't remember for sure if that was her name but she was so nice and she catered to my spoiled boyfriend. Overall the experience was great. We spent $35 on the meal but we did get a lot of extras. Without the extra I believe it would've been around $25. My wife and I had breakfast this morning at the Log Cabin. Everything was excellent!! We were quickly seated and served with coffee, hot tea, and water. I had the small CFS with eggs and my wife had the standard American breakfast with pancakes and sausage. The food was tasty, prepared to our specifications, and served good and hot. The servings was g-normous!! We were quickly seated and our waitress was friendly, efficient, and checked on us frequently. From the outside the Red Cabin looks pretty darn cool. Once inside tho... its a different story. Breakfast was mediocre, service was pretty bad, bathrooms and kitchen were a mess!! This is the place to go if you want to wait 30 mins for a table and another 40 minutes for Sysco food. I'm pretty sure the French toast is of the frozen variety. It tastes just like its fresh from the toaster. If that's your thing, you might find this to be a good place to eat. As for me, I will not be back. read more

We had breakfast here twice in 2 days. It was your regular American diner breakfast stuff on the menu. Nothing out of the ordinary. The service was very good. The quality of the food was above average. The price was good for being in a tourist town. And the place was clean. Their bacon is thick and crispy. The salsa is made in house I think, has a bit of kick to it and pretty good. I liked that they had wild blueberries for the topping on the waffles. Sunday morning was a long wait, but that was mostly for larger parties, we were only 2 of us so we got seated right away, while 6 tops waited a long time. read more

Best breakfast place to visit!! My husband and I went there twice, we couldn't get enough! The prices are good for the amount of food and quality of food! I'm all about service, and the waitress was amazing! Enough to make sure we were doing okay and never ran out of drinks, etc. but also let us have alone time to eat our food. Ruidoso is a huge tourist town so there can be a wait but the food is definitely worth it!! And they get you in pretty quick. There's going to be a wait anywhere you go, might as well eat good!! Their specialty coffee is amazing! We will definitely be going back in the future and will be telling our family and friends who visit to go try it! read more

Absolutely amazing spot for breakfast! My wife and I only stayed in Ruidoso for 3 full days as a late honeymoon and we had to come here a second time after our first experience was so great! The place was pretty packed the first morning we came but honestly we didn't have to wait very long to be seated. Wish we could remember our waitress name because we had the same one both times and she was very friendly and courteous while also not checking up on us too obnoxiously much. The specialty coffees they make are delicious to start off with. Food is very high quality and you can tell the cooks actually put good work into making the meals. The chocolate chip waffles and the "Whole Hog" (I believe it's called) were my selections the times we went and both meals were incredible. Restaurant even has turkey bacon as an option which my wife loved! I could tell from watching all the employees that the restaurant worked as a well oiled machine and every single employee was very friendly. Plain. We have been here several times and tried to like it with no success. Nothing unique. Just plain breakfast food. If there wasn't salt on the table, it would be hard to eat. Today was the last time we will try, however. The service is not good. They don't check on you enough, just drop the food and bring the check. Worst service ever!!! Manager decided start waiting tables and manage the restaurant at the same time. She then proceeded to take big tables (+6 adults) so as to to get bigger tips. Other servers couldn't assist and so Lauren the bus girl had to step in for refills while SUPER Waitress struggled to get orders correct. Wait time to be seated was 40 min and once seated 15 min to get drink order. Manager/waitress delivered the drinks wrong, missing items on food, and cold pancakes. The manager should be managing the place not taking big tables away from other waiters. She should be fired!!!! By the way, this used to be one of our favorite restaurants. And even the last time we were here, the chef put chopped raw red opinions in our omelets. The ONLY bright stop of the dining experience was our busgirl Lauren (we left her out part of a $14 tip.). She is not even wait staff but she made the expense worth it. We will not be coming back. read more
