Believe it or not, there are not many great breakfast places in the Ruidoso area. The Bakery seems to be the busiest because of location, but their food lacks flavor as well as quantity. Log Cabin may be a little far from the main highway 70, but if you are looking for quality, taste, and OMG quantity, this is worth your time and gas. We walked in the minute the opened. They had 6 pots of coffee ready to go, and the largest staff I have seen in a restaurant that size. You will never be looking for a server or someone else that can help you, and your coffee cup will never run dry. The bring you a pot of coffee, right to the table and it's pretty good Joe. Lord knows we are not getting many Good JOE these days. Fare was reasonable for what we ordered. If you are looking for supersized biscuits, this is your place. This is a gem of a restaurant, located in the ski village of Ruidoso, NM. The interior has a small town, upscale log cabin feeling. Food is good, and comes with generous portions. As always when we're in Riadosa I love to have breakfast at the log cabin. Today though we were running late so we decided to have lunch there instead around 1:00. I had chicken fried steak sweet potato fries, biscuit and a salad. Everything was very good probably the best sweet potato fries I've ever had! Against my better judgment based on what I saw in Yelp, we went here. I ordered a hamburger with fries. Hamburger patty was cooked as ordered, warm and was good sized. The bun, however, was room temperature and seemed to be somewhat stale. The fries were slightly above room temperature, so I sent the whole plate back. I got the plate back reasonably quickly. This time, the patty was hot, I got a replacement bun that was hot and fresh. The replacement fries were hot as well. Sounds like a winner finally. Not so fast. While the fries were new, they had an odd taste, so I decided not to eat them. My wife had som some of the fries, and she said they tasted all right, so my "taster" might have been a little off. My wife got a green chili omelette, and it was way too hot for her. There was no warning in the menu, nor did our server say anything. I ate a little bit of it, and I liked it. It was spicier than I would serve it without a warning We were there around noon, and the place was almost empty. Kinda surpriding. To top everything off, while the men's room looked cleah, it had the same urine smell of a bar. Would we go back? Not likely as there a number of better alternatives. P.S. When we inquired about our doubled expected wait time, we discovered the hostess/manager had a very odd and unfair way of seating parties ($$). I've been to the Log Cabin, in Ruidoso, on many a Sunday morning, over the last couple of years. My husband makes sure that I'm up by the crack of dawn to go there with him. So I can only speak for the breakfast menu, and overall, it's good food. We usually order something traditional, like an omelet, pancakes, or huevos rancheros. The menu is substantial. Lots of combination plates, and the serving sizes are ample. The atmosphere is appropriate for the name "Log Cabin". There is Southwestern decor with paintings, art, and very large trophy Elk mounts on the log walls. If it's a busy weekend in Ruidoso, you may want to go early AM or late morning as there may be a wait, and a crowded parking lot. It is a popular place, especially with tourist ( lots of Double T caps - from Lubbock ) Prices are mid range, and reasonable. Service is always fast and friendly. read more
