I was able to get my wife to venture from her comfort zone tonight and try Cuban food. She was super apprehensive but very glad she did! Our waiter was very polite and patient with us. The place had a very nice fun Latin music playing. I got the Cuban Sandwich with Fried Yucca. My wife got the Ropa Vieja with yellow rice and black beans. The flavor on both dishes was fantastic! The pork on the sandwich was extremely good and the fried yucca was really good. The beef on the Ropa Vieja was very good mixed with the rice and black beans. This was such a good meal. Lunch after Dr appointment, 12:30 so I expected a crowd, yet we were the only ones in the place. A little worried but it was clean, nicely decorated in a Latin decor, and the server met us immediately. Nice menu, good choices with special on table cards that let you have a sample of entrees or apps. Too bad it was lunch because they are big dishes, so we both ordered the Cubano Sandwich with pappas frittas (fries). They advertise the "best Cuban sandwich in Texas", so let me decide. It took about 12 minutes, not excessive for a hand made sandwich that is pressed to finish. The fries were like shoestring fries, but looked hand cut and fresh. The sandwich... Bread was outstanding; crisp from the press but soft inside. Roast pork was excellent with a nice portion, the ham was good, finished with the traditional mustard, pickles, and cheese. I love a good Cuban sandwich! This is the first time I've tried Lola's, and I don't have a lot of experience with Cuban food so all I can tell you is that the food was good! We tried the Cuban tamales and I thought they were pretty good. There was a lot more masa there than in Mexican tamales, so that was different. My lovely bride and I both had sandwiches. One was a pork steak and the other was roasted pork. I asked for some mojo de Ajo, which is garlic sauce and the wait person brought some. It was very good on the sandwich! We also tried fried yuca. It taste almost exactly like potatoes and there were no seasonings on it. They provided some garlic Dijon sauce for dipping and I thought it was excellent. It was quiet when we were there and it looked like maybe there were a dozen tables and maybe a half dozen booths. It's well decorated with a full bar and it looks like they have live music from time to time. There's also a couple of outside seats, which I would love to try. I've followed Lola's on Instagram for years in hopes maybe one day I'll feel like going downtown. The thought of the parking situation on Henderson is enough to sit my butt at home. I no longer have to worry about that because Lola's opened up near me. Near Hawaiian bros and Razzoos. Literally across the parking lot from razzoos around the corner from outback. Finally we get some cuban food in this area. I've been griping about it for years!! We stopped in around 9 or 10. I just got a cuban sandwich. Husband got the picadillo. Cuban sandwich is legit. I have no complaints. Ham and pork with Swiss and mustard. Loved it. The picadillo was yum as well. A plate of comfort. Definitely will be coming back. The food is a hit and miss. I have been there twice. The first time I had the sandwich Cubano and it had no flavor. The second time the food was very good, but the service was horrible. My husband and I have eaten here a couple of times. The food has a great flavor and the restaurant is clean. Service is good also - wait staff are friendly. I do wish the food were made more to order. Because it's all been previously made, the food isn't coming out hot. I would suggest that they cut the menu in half (make it simpler), par cook the food and finish the cook for each order. I love good Cuban food. I didn't love this. I got the Uruguayan steak, with black beans and yellow rice, and a bowl of their Caldoza. Uruguayan steak is supposed to be a fried Steak split in the middle and stuffed with ham and Swiss cheese. It was fried to a dark brown overcooked disaster, the grease in the fryer was clearly old and nasty. I am used to Cuban black beans with garlic , onion and sometimes a little jalapeño. These were like Mexican borracho beans, no flavor. The rice was sticky and not good. The Caldoza which should be chicken soup, was like , water with a greasy drumstick and some undercooked Potatoes. I ordered the ropa vieja and requested it come with beans and rice and a side of plantains to-go. The meal came with a tiny scoop of mashed potatoes and a cucumber and tomato salad also. The food was lukewarm at best and the mashed potatoes were cold in the center, as if it was pre-made and warmed to order. The shredded beef was flavorful, but was not that enjoyable because it was cold. The plantains were bland and slightly overcooked and served with a mustard dip. I went there for lunch. I had a cuban sandwich, chuleta frita, croquetas, and relleno de papa. The chuleta frita was already cooked, not made to order, as it was cold. The relleno de papas were cold in the center. We sent it back. The waitress brings the relleno a second time and doesn't come back like 10 minutes later. I tell her it's cold again. She then proceeds to touch the rellenos center without asking for permission not wearing any gloves. She shrugged and explained that's how they come out. I ended up not eating it. They were not gonna remove it from the check. I'd not go back to this establishment nor recommend it to anyone. read more

We went this last past Sunday afternoon around 12ish I want to say. We arrived and we had the place to ourselves, ( we were 6 ) . It was also most of our first time there . My friend asked the host . It was 6 of us , and he literally made rude gestures to go seat down. And his face expression wasn't very friendly . Keep in mind no one was there but us. So I don't understand where this rude manners were coming from. We didn't know if we waited to be seated or just seat wherever we wanted . We didn't get drinks until he decided to come by and ask what we wanted to eat . And even made remarks that only one of us got a simple order. Compared to the others . As a former resident of South Florida, one of the things I miss after moving to Texas is finding some place that serves great Cuban food. After a visit to the Ft. Worth Zoo, my wife, daughter and I headed to Lola's to get our "Cuban Food Fix." We were not disappointed! The food was fantastic. All of us were stuffed at the end of the meal. We went there for the first time this evening. We love Caribbean food and looked forward to this meal. The waitress was friendly and informative. The food had good taste but unfortunately my wife found a hair in her dish. The waitress took the plate away and apologized. However, although I told her not to bring another plate, she did not offer to replace it, and when we got the check she did not offer to remove the cost of the plate we sent back. I would probably have paid for the food anyway since we understand "stuff happens", however, we would have appreciated if the manager had come out and apologized. That said, they have lost what would have been a return customer.
