    Clam Pie
    Joan L.

LOVED and RAVED about the clam pie the first time coming to visit in 2021. The crust was like croissant dough, it was so flaky and delicious! This visit back in 2026 the crust was different. It was more cracker-like and not flaky-layered-like. While it is still a good pie, I much preferred the croissant-like crust over this one! Service was great -- seated quickly and received our sodas (and refills) in a timely manner. The interior was relaxed and decorative.

On a nostalgic tour all over NYC. My old stomping ground. ENTRANCE - the young waitress was also the hostess. She sat us down promptly albeit lunch time so no very crowded AMBIANCE - as I remembered, very quaint rustic Italian decor. Not a lot of tables so at peak time it might be tough MENU - fairly small but decent. We came for something light like a full pizza to share. LOL DRINKS - I tried the Cabernet but as expected it's not the greatest even for by the glass bar stock PIZZA - still very very good. Quality ingredients like the mozzarella. However sizes down to 12" PRICES - like manhattan prices but beware THEY ONLY ACCEPT CASH. Our tab was $46 all in sans tip. So like $$$ to $$$$ as we only ordered a pizza and one vino

Stopped by here in the middle of the night and ordered Buddy's Cake Boss pizza. Keep in mind - this place is cash only. The pizza was good. Not my favorite in NYC but a cute and cozy little late night stop. The service is great and I love the warmth of family owned businesses.

Im surprised I haven't reviewed Lombardis! I love me some pizza and I had to try the oldest pizza joint in NY. I was able to go when it wasn't so busy. Located in Lower Manhattan and near SOHO. They are Cash Only!!! Bring moola!! We got Mahgarita Pizza. It was good. Sauce was on point. Taste fresh and not like jar pizza sauce. Fresh cheese. I love the crust a little charred. Service is great. Everyone was nice. I love their Vanilla cream soda... mannn I had to make sure I took my Lactaid.. Now as for as is it the best? No. I prefer Juliannas. In fact a lot of people would say the same thing. Though, if your a tourist you had to make your homage to here. My parentals brought me here as a kid, and now I did the same. Its gotten expensive but then again everything in NYC is expensive.

I was in NY on business last week and staying down in the Bowery. I had finished my last meeting and was heading back to my hotel but needed to pick up a couple pizzas to bring back to...yes, my hungry, demanding family in Los Angeles. It's my fault, really, because I had done the 'NY Pizza Carry' once before when the kiddos were young...and I freakin' spoiled 'em, damn it. But can 'ya blame 'em? Like a nice older fellow asked me at the airport bar later that day, "Don't they have pizza in L.A. (and bagels and baked goods, all of which I was also carrying home) to which I answered, "Sure but even the NY style pizza and bagels, in particular, just aren't the same as the good 'ol fresh stuff in NY. Fortunately, Lombardi's popped up in my search and it was very close to my hotel. I went just before opening time and the nice staff welcomed me in. I ordered two pizzas to bring home (and a glass of wine while I waited). I ordered the classic margherita and the sausage, peppers and onions. The tab came to $65 and while I was surprised that the pizzas were small, I honestly don't know how I could have carried any bigger. I was also surprised that I didn't have even a bite until the next day when I shared them with the family. I heated slices in the oven and they were absolutely perfect. There's a reason this place is the oldest pizza joint in town. The crust was perfect, with a good chew, very tasty and the toppings were as well. If I had to pick one over the other, I'd say the sausage, peppers and onions was my favorite pie. While the price is a bit high, it is totally worth it. Ambiance in the little restaurant was cute and true NY pizza joint and like I said, the staff was great and attentive. And the pies came out in a speedy 15 minutes. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND for a great, true NY pizza experience.

CASH ONLY! (ATM inside restaurant) Finally got to visit America's first pizzeria. We arrived right at 12:00 PM when they opened and the restaurant filled up immediately. We ordered: * Grandma's Grace Meatballs ($14) * Eggplant Sicilian with * Clam Pie ($33) * Raspberry Iced Tea ($4) * Peach Iced Tea ($4) * Vanilla Italian Soda ($6) If you love clams, get the clam pie. It's savory and the fresh lemon squeezed on top is an absolute must. The pizza at Lombardi's is a lot different than your normal NY slice. The crust here is very thin, almost cracker like and crispy. The meatball and eggplant Sicilian were great, very homey. We took the excess red sauce that was in both dishes and topped it off on our Clam slices. The food here is great, you'll leave here feeling stuffed. The only weird thing that happened was we kept getting the same wrong dish served at our table by different servers. Also we asked for water and didn't get any and there's no refills on drinks.

I finally made it to Lombardi's Pizza. The first pizzeria in America and it definitely lived up to the hype. We went for the pepperoni pizza and it was solid. The pepperoni curls into these little cups with crispy edges (almost like bacon), which adds a nice texture. The mozzarella is soft and melts right over everything without feeling too heavy. What stood out most was the crust. You can taste that coal-fired oven right away. It has that light, slightly smoky char that makes it different from your usual slice. The space itself feels very classic New York. Brick walls, checkered tables, a little loud and busy, but that's part of the experience. I actually got lucky and didn't have to wait, but you can tell it usually gets packed. Overall, it's one of those places you go to for the history and end up actually enjoying the food too. Not trying to be trendy, just doing what they've always done. Would come back, especially if I'm in Nolita again.

NYC staple, pizzeria that's been here since 1905. We went on a Saturday afternoon for lunch and were seated promptly. Restaurant is cash only. We got the double pepperoni pizza and it was great.

I could tell by just by touching the crust that the dough of this pizza was great. It had a good balance of crunch and chew. I especially enjoyed the sauce, prosciutto, and arugula. It's a cozy, classic Italian restaurant and the pizza was delicious honestly. However, it's WAY over-priced for the small pie that you get. We also got some cocktails but they were unfortunately not strong enough and tasted more like juice. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to come here because you can find a good pizza place at a much better price elsewhere. It's also cash only. The service was just ok.

Ambiance: it's a small and packed pizza restaurant, America's first pizza place, opened since 1905, I think it's worth trying the 120 years old place although oldest age doesn't mean the best quality Service: friendly and patient with questions, served water and food fairly fast, refilled water adequately Food & Drink: plenary choices of classic and creative pizza on the menu, although not serving the most common New York style pizza Sausage, Peppers, Onions Pie - *** Red pie, mozzarella, fennel sausage chunks, oven roasted peppers, red onion, grated cheese, fresh basil, mediocre quality Our Famous Clam Pie - **** Fresh garlic, oil, herbs, basil, oregano, black pepper, grated cheese, topped with dozens of whole baby clams, which may contain sand and shell, served with lemon, one of their most unique and specialized pizza, recommend for the creative pizza if you never tried the clam pizza Lawrence Effortless IPA - ** bitter and hard to drink Price: moderate portions and slightly overpriced, not quite worth $40~$45 per person for the overall quality

    Wooo!

Home of THE New York pizza! Here was my experience AMBIANCE: Parking: street parking moreover, you're better of taking public transportation. Seating: Inside and outside shaded seating. Room for maybe about 50 people good for groups, pairs, or a solo food adventure. Vibes: Little Italy is a charming spot. For things that you think of Italy such as 20th century brick buildings, red checkered table clothes, and Italian music playing in many of the restaurants. The spot itself gives a nostalgic memory having rustic aesthetics with pictures showcasing throughout the year. Great place for touristy experience. FOOD: Clam Pie (Recommend) I was almost tempted to get the pure original NY Pizza BUT this seemed extra unique - paying homage to New York both the pizza style and seafood. Flavors of oregano, garlic, Romano cheese, brininess clams, and zest from the lemon. This unique pizza that maintains its large yet thin slice. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Great! Friendly people that were quick with the service. TL; DR OVERALL: 5 Stars. Good food, reasonable price, pleasant experience. What can you say? Got to give credit to the OG pizza spot. As a food enthusiast, yes you can get NY pizza almost anywhere and possibly cheaper but it felt nice to visit the birth of the NY Pizza and learned a little bit of its origins. TIPS: * CASH ONLY! * The More You Know: NY type pizza is large, thin, and foldable so it was satisfying but portable for moving around.

    Americas First Pizzeria

Boasting being Americas first pizzeria, this place has a rich history that can be felt by the ambience in store and in every bite. Grandmas Meatball appetizer is a shareable must-try. You want to get your own pie though, they're too good to be shy! Try a classic flavor like the rustin double pepperoni, or customize to your liking. You'll be a few blocks down from some of the best bakeries in Little Italy and can walk off your meal before stopping for dessert. Ask the waiters where to go, they'll point you in the right direction.

The first pizza I got to try in New York! We came here on a rainy day after a day of shopping. There was no wait inside, but they did let us know that they were cash only and that there was an atm inside if we needed it. We quickly got seated and chose to order the sausage, pepper and onion speciality pizza along with grandma grace's meatballs. Our meatballs came out first and my gosh, the meatballs were huge and delicious. There was two of us and we couldn't finish! I like how much sauce they also give you with it. My friend usually doesn't like meatballs or Mariana sauce, but she enjoyed this appetizer so much! Our speciality pizza we got was the sausage, pepper and onion. It came out a little after our appetizer did. The pizza portion was huge for us as well. New York pizza compared to California is that the crust here is super thin and crispy. The pizza here also has a lot of sauce making everything so savory and flavorful. We got to talk to some people who reside in New York, and they said this was a good pick to have pizza at. I would definitely come back here again next time I'm in New York for the food and vibes. :)

Is there still outdoor dining here? Thanks!

Yes, there are small two-top tables under the awnings outside.

Can I bring with me my small dog in a bag?

No, its an NYC restaurant. That's against health code

    Is this place cash only?

Yes cash only, they do have an ATM inside. I believe the ATM fee is 3.50.

Do they offer gluten free pizza?

No, I've heard that they serve gluten free pastas and other entrees.

Do they sell by the slice?

No they only sell whole pizza's which was a good thing for me because I wasn't able to stop at one slice. :)

How many guests is needed to be able to make a reservation?

No limit on guests, just call and they'll accommodate whatever your party is. Went here on a Saturday and it wasn't that packed.

Can you get pizza by the slice?

no, this is not your typical NY dollar slice pizza parlor. being the actual first pizza place in NY they kind of make a bigger production of it

Posso prenotare qui con la app per sta sera tre persone?

"Can i book three people here with the app" was the question – in Italian, and not Spanish – and yes, you can.

I found the sauce too sweet for my liking, which almost reminded me of the rather terrible Little Italy chain. There was plenty of cheese, and it had a good pull, even if it looked a bit overcooked on top. I'm presuming the average ratings here and on other sites are because of their location and the fact that a lot of tourists who go here can't tell the difference between Joe's and a dollar slice. Perfectly decent slice on the level, if not worse than many slices in the city, as I disliked the sauce, while the rest was fine.

RIGHT BY THE DOOR. Do people not realize that putting a bar near a door on a freezing cold night benefits no one? Good thing I did not order alcohol or I would have froze to death. Seriously, none of the pies stood out in grand memory. All I can think of is, well, nothing. Nothing positive anyway. The names of the pies are funny, and the staff is friendly, but besides that, the quality of the food for lack of a better word, dare I say it, sucks. Hoping to salvage the meal, I ordered their Chicken Parmesan. It was the Hail Mary pass that unfortunately did not connect. The cutlets are overcooked and dry, and the red sauce cooked with it has minimal tomato flavor. At least the spaghetti is cooked to a nice al dente and mellow garlic butter flavor, but like the sauce cooked in, it is also minimal. Part of the problem I feel is they are trying to go for a vibe that has a New York and modern feel. It does not work. Stay true to one or the other. Or at least look at other business models. I will use another pizzeria in Bushwick that exemplifies it perfectly. It is a hipster pizzeria in a hipster neighborhood. Through balance, it creates an ambiance both welcoming and warm without losing any of its Bushwick character. It does this by not beating you over the head with hipster vibes, just enough to let you know that you are in Bushwick. The band Franz Ferdinand was playing as I was wrapping up. Rather than take the pizza out, I suggest you throw it out. Overall pizza rating: 1.7/5

The pizza was typical New York style with a crispy bottom and sweet sauce which I love. I got the last serving of buffalo wings for the night where which wood fired crispy and spicy. The first thing you notice is the main bar wall, with its exposed centuries-old brick that has survived every bit of chaos this city could throw at it. It's subtly backlit from with a warm, amber glow that highlights every single historic groove and imperfection, making the whole room look like it's breathing. I have to say the centerpiece of the entire narrow room is the bar itself, and let me tell you, it is an absolute stunner of a contrast. Instead of the usual dark, sticky tavern wood, they've dropped in a long, continuous slab of pristine, elegantly smooth white stone. It glows under the soft lighting like a block of polished marble. There are no strobe lights and no obnoxious, skull-rattling bass in this joint. Instead, the room is wrapped in a blanket of incredibly chill music that matches the pulse of the room perfectly. It's just loud enough to drown out the noise in your own head, but quiet enough that you don't have to scream over the smooth white counter to be heard. People aren't here to be seen on TikTok; they're here to disappear for an hour or three. You slide into a chair, order a proper Old Fashioned from a bartender who doesn't rush the pour, and watch the ice melt against the amber-lit brick. It's the ultimate underground exhale--a perfect, narrow slice of peace in a city that never shuts up. Cheers!

The fried calamari and shrimp appetizers were delicious! For entrees, I really liked that they offer half portions for one person and full portions for 2-3 people. It makes it easy to eat family-style, try several dishes, and share. The vodka pasta was definitely a favorite! Our server was attentive and did a fantastic job, especially for a busy weekend evening. He didn't miss a beat! Overall, a great spot for Italian food, especially if you want to share dishes and try a little bit of everything.

This is family style. One check for one table. Not that we can't do it, but with this many people, it's a pain." Well, it's a pain for the guests and a money maker for you. (This is why I'm not a fan of family style. I don't like paying for what I personally don't eat or drink.) I will say the atmosphere in the lower room is nice (until more parties fill the room and all you hear is cacophony). I tasted the calamari, the chicken parm, and the tiramisu. The food is good. With all the hassle, at least the food is good.
