Restaurant is closed down. Has been for a few months. Quality went down and finding help in Pagosa is hard.

This one goes out to all my restaurant workers.... (Copied from my blog...) When in #durangocolorado, go with the flow? After having pulled an all-nighter then stopping by Four Corners before breakfast, we were both hungry and the street designers, combined with navigation difficulties led me to play "ask a local", who guided us to #thelonespurcafe. The decor was pretty cool and reminded us of an old-western man cave. Having multiple factors working against me, my narcolepsy and cataplexy on full blast and I was actually afraid to fall asleep at the table especially as REM intrusions can't be fought off easily. Thankfully the coldness of the iced tea along with chugging water helped the sleepiness. I ran this review a little differently than usual, directing this review towards our waitress, Stevie, who turned out to be a good sport despite my playing the difficult but friendly customer. If you've never worked as a server, you really shouldn't judge them harshly on little mistakes (like forgetting a drink - what's more important is that they remember at some point soon after!!) because the job is much harder than it seems and there's a lot going on behind the scenes that customers don't know . The bowl of chili (smaller than we expected) accompanied by the biscuit restored my energy and turned out to be the perfect 1 pm breakfast! Definitely 4/5. We had had a great experience at this restaurant until it was time to pay. The service was good, the server was nice. We were asked to pay for the ticket before reviewing the bill. Which we did. After we received the receipt we realized we were charged for juices for each of our kid meals even though the menu clearly says drinks are included, and we ordered waters (an upgrade charge is mentioned for juices which it seems we were charged for). When we asked the server about it she said we got charged for a drink becasue that's the way the system is regardless of the fact that we got waters. Meaning you're charged for a drink even if you don't want one. Does that mane sense? After we left we thought about it and realized she clearly lied to us. We also had left her more than a 20% tip. Feeling duped. --- Since writing this (which is the first time we ever felt compelled to write a review) the owner has been in touch with us and apologized and did indicate this was a POS issue, but that we shouldn't have been dismissed. read more

We had heard good things about Lone Spur and how well they treat veterans, so we popped in one morning while we were on vacation at Pagosa Springs. We were glad we did. The front of the restaurant had an impressive western theme. When we entered, the hostess greeted us with a smile. We all had coffee which was delightful and then ordered breakfast. I had eggs Benedict with steak. My wife and daughter also ordered and were well pleased with what they had. We all had generous portions served with a smile. My eggs Benedict was simply scrumptious. Several days later we came again and were again delighted. Hannah was our waitress. She did everything possible to please us. She was charming in every way. Service was ok. Server told us over and over it was here first day on the job. The kitchen was a nightmare. 6 of us ordered and not one order came correctly. They ran out of bacon. They didn't have pulled pork. They didn't bring one meal until we were ready to get up. They were going to comp us 3 of the meals because of the fiasco, they comped 2. I struggled with how to rate this restaurant. I ended up with 2 stars because I couldn't get over 3 words that kept popping into my head: imminent health hazard. I'll get to that in a bit. We tried this restaurant two different days. The first day was unsuccessful. We were seated promptly, which we believed was a good sign. We ordered promptly, also a good sign. That's where it ended. We waited for our food for approximately 40 mins before we had to leave. It's hard to wait that long with 2 young, hungry kids. We told the waitress, who was very friendly and completely understanding. Even she couldn't figure out what was taking the kitchen so long, but it was happening to the whole restaurant, not just us. It would have been nice had they told us the kitchen was backed up. Two days later, we decide to give it another go. I call first to make sure food wasn't taking 40 mins plus and they assured me it wasn't. Again, we sat and ordered promptly. Our table had a good view of the open kitchen, which normally we like, but this time caused us a huge concern. We immediately noticed the girl, who appeared to be about 10, helping in the kitchen. Now I don't normally mind this. But I was concerned with how she was carrying plates, handling food and going back and forth to a table eating and drinking her own food (with her bare hands, no utensils) all with absolutely NO hand washing. The girl who was the busser was doing the same. Obviously she looked old enough to actually be employed there, but eating and drinking, in the kitchen, handling food with bare hands, and no hand washing. At one point, I actually watched her sneeze into her arm, in the kitchen, and still not wash her hands. Lucky for us, we already received our food. On this visit, the food came out faster, but we watched a good portion of it sit for quite a while. Those items, both chicken and waffles ordered by my son and I, were extremely dry and crumbly. That's what happens when food like that sits under a heat lamp for extended periods. My daughter ordered French toast, which was pretty good and a large serving for a kids meal. My wife ordered the chicken tortilla soup, which was good and hearty. Service speed was mediocre but friendly. Hopefully they turn things around in regards to their kitchen service, including their food safety. read more

We kept our receipt to insure we wouldn't forget the worst service we have ever received. Shannon sniffled the entire time she took our order. On drugs maybe? Do NOT go here! The food was not good. We ended up not eating half of it, but the service is my real complaint. It was so businesslike....no smiles, seated us as if they wished we hadn't come in, no checking on if we needed anything. Very slow! 2 groups of customers walked out after waiting to order. I know they were packed for breakfast earlier but when we got there, there were only 3 tables of customers. When they delivered our food, we had no silverware, so they brought back just 2 forks. They gave us one menu for the 2 of us to share. After waiting a long time to get a bill, we finally went to the counter to get one....she said she would have to get the person that could do it. We rolled into town when it was already dark and we picked this spot to eat dinner at since it was close to the grocery store. So glad we did. Everything was tasty. The prices seemed reasonable and there was plenty to eat. We had the prime rib, a cheeseburger, and the chicken tender salad along with some yummy chocolate cake. Service is friendly! Food was great. The background music is excellent However, it's apparent that management is needing some assistance in maintaining inventory and scheduling staff. They were out of a lot of our choices. Only to order and have the staff return to tell us that they are of this item as well‍. We was driving thru Pagosa Springs this morning and stopped at this place for breakfast. After waiting patiently for more than 5 minutes to be seated, a young man approached and said "how many" as he huffed, rolled his eyes and said "follow me." As we approached the table he huffed again at us and he tossed the menus on the table. We literally just walked out. The attitudes was horrible and can't imagine what the rest of our visit would have been like since we were such a bother to him! read more

The food here is the best I have ever had! I can not say enough about how good their meals are. My fiancé and I found ourselves there several times over our stay. The staff there is super friendly and made us feel welcomed as they made conversation with us and offered advice on some of the best places to visit. Came from out of town looking for a breakfast place... not so sure why this was rated 4 stars. Service was good and the waitress was nice, but the food was not good quality at all. I got one of the skillets and it was not really hot along with the fact that the gravy had no flavor. Also, $2.79 for Folgers coffee.... Another thing -- the kitchen was open, and I literally saw people touching my food with bare hands. That sort of stuff doesn't bother me a ton usually, but the place overall definitely seemed dirty. My husband & I are locals and finding a great restaurant in a small town is very difficult, especially during COVID... most haven't survived and those that are struggling can only serve a small volume of guests at a time. We were in town and decided to stop in for breakfast. The man cooking told us we could sit anywhere. The waitress came over and got our drink order promptly. It became clear they were under staffed as the cook was also bussing tables. He also got us more coffee and explained there was a lot of staff that called out. The waitress was friendly and apologetic for the wait which honestly was not too bad considering! The pancake and biscuits and gravy was amazing! The portions are very generous.
