Ok. I am not a native Texan. I'm a transplanted GA boy (by way of a 22 year pit stop in Boston MA) and I'm new to this whole kolaches thing. But I've been wanting to try them out because it seems that they're as Texan as brisket and pearl snap shirts. This one was right by me so after a heavy workout session I decided to hit it up. The restaurant is spacious, clean, neat and tidy and the kolaches are plainly visible organized by sweet and savory flavors! The server couldn't have been more helpful and we suggested on a strawberry cream cheese and blueberry cream cheese. And oh my goodness were they good! Did I break the rules an fold mine like a pizza pie slice so I could get all the goodness in every bite. Yes, yes I did and it was so...dang...delicious. We got some "chubby" kolaches for the office here. They're so tasty and perfect for a good breakfast. The staff here is so friendly and all orders are super fresh. This business is set back about a block from Pecan Street on Central commerce Drive making it difficult to see. The one thing that impressed me was the fact that they are open seven days a week starting at 5:30 in the morning which is great if you're trying to grab breakfast on the way to work. Since they are located on the corner of a strip center, they do have a drive up window. I have to admit I was quite impressed with the very wide selection of their kolaches and croissants. In case you wish to dine in, they do have a few four tops to sit at and a coffee station. This is a pretty standard place for kolaches. Stopped by on a Saturday morning and got the sausage and cheese kolache and a fruit + cream cheese kolache. Everything was pretty good and I particularly enjoyed the bread. Staff was nice and you can get your kolaches microwaved. I just moved to TX a few months ago and had heard about Kolaches but never had one. Happened to be driving by this place and just had to make a pit stop. The girl behind the counter was really sweet and helpful. They have a LOT of different options, and it's a bit overwhelming if you think you would like them all, but never tried one. I settled on three different ones and they were as expected all DELISH! My only thing is that the place where they have the Kolaches are just open to the elements. I have a complaint regarding this Lone Star Kolache: I went thru the drive through at this location and ordered 2 Polish Sausage & Cheese kolaches, paid for them and drove off. As I was on my way, I took out a kolaches and found a small kolaches, not a polish one. Turned immediately around, went thru the drive through and wanted the correct order, was told they were out! Asked why I wasn't told this when I ordered my kolaches and was told again that they were out. Asked for a refund, the reply was : we don't give refunds. They took my card, charging my for 2 smaller kolaches without letting me know that I wasn't paying for the right items! This has never happened before, they have always let me know when they are out, but not this time. I am usually patient but not this time, this action was deceitful, especially since a refund was not forthcoming. Do they think that most customers will just shrug it off ? The clerk who spoke to me at the drive through gave me list of Lone Star locations and pointed to a phone number at the bottom of the page that has 24 Hour Order Line, called the number , went to voicemail. Called later in the afternoon, went to voicemail, so after leaving 2 messages, no response yet. So the lesson I have learned, check my order before paying, because sometimes they will make a substitution without informing you beforehand, not always , not always but again sometimes! Also remember LONE STAR KOLACHES DOES NOT GIVE REFUNDS, but they will TAKE YOUR MONEY ! read more

The sweet and the savory kolaches are all delicious and served up fresh, in lots of varieties. There are a couple of tables and a counter for or eating in, as long as you don't mind eating without plates. The staff are cheerful and fast despite being very busy with drive through orders. I'll definitely be recommending a stop here when I have out of town guests. read more

3 Stars is just that...A-OK...This was my first visit...Walking from Lambs, my orginal destination was closed, Truly was my only option in walking distance. The Kolaches were "Bun" Shaped and actually had a decent amount of filling. Review is actually off, just for the fact My Plan was changed. We picked up a ranchero kolache, eggs, jalapenos and salsa....had some nice heat, and a couple pepperoni rolls, these were good.....and a bag with 2 kolaches and 2 cinnamon twists for 2 bucks, i assume these are a day old, everything we got was good but not amazing....which is to be expected as we showed up at noon and most of these goodies were probably made early this morning......Hruzka's they are not. read more

Epic fail. I hope the manager or owner reads this and does something. First issue was that all of the prices on the menu were erased so I had no idea what anything cost. Not a big deal because it is just kolaches but still annoying. Moving on. I ordered 3. Cheese and jalapeño, sausage, cheese and jalapeño, and ham and Swiss. The lady had me repeat my order 3 times over the speaker and then after I pulled up to get my order she reconfirmed it again. They came in one bag with no indication as to which was which. I reached in and picked one. It was the jalapeño and cheese one. It was ice cold. Not room temperature but cold. It was a chunk of cold cheese with some cold jalapeño. I ate it and moved on to mystery #2. It was nice and warm and I bit in and it was pan sausage. I didn't order pan sausage and do not like it so I threw it in the bag and went for #3 which was a room temp ham kolache. . How do you ask someone their order 4 times and still get it wrong? Why was the wrong one the only hot one? I was given no receipt or napkins. Just 3 mystery kolaches in a nondescript white bag. Just a bad experience. I'll drive further and stick to kolache factory! One of the better-tasting sausage egg and cheese kolaches I have had. Kolaches are culturally notorious for having just ordinary taste. This one was amazing for ordinary taste. Never go to a kolache place expecting out-of-this-world taste. Combine good enough food with great ambience and you will be fine. Their Columbian coffee was also great. I saw some negative reviews here based on pricing, which I simply don't get. Kolaches here are 1.00-2.70ish. That's more than reasonable, in my opinion. The staff is friendly and the kolaches are good (Philly Cheese Steak is A+) My wife had the peach filling and approved. Unfortunately the coffee is at about gas station quality - but there's a Starbucks right next door if you just HAVE to have your fancy brew. You see, this isn't a fancy establishment. You're not coming for couples brunch. You're coming to pick up some inexpensive, delicious kolaches and take them home where you can scarf them down snuggled into the comfort of you sofa. I love Kolaches... well, the fresh ones. I was going for a treatment at The Academy at Austin and had some time before my appointment. I was a bit hungry - but not whole meal hungry, when I remembered that there was a Lone Star Kolache right up the street. I strode on in the store with visions of sweet bread dancing in my head. Ick! This is a nightmare, not a dream! A woman is on the phone with someone (it appears her casch register is having technical issues), and with no nod, smile or anything she slams onto a bell... D I N G A woman comes from the back "What can I get you?" Uhhhh... gee.... sorry to bother you guys since you're so busy with you're ... uhmmm ONE CUSTOMER. I eye the shelves. Everything looks all wrinkled and old and not so fresh. I am beginning to wonder if I can make a run for it and not look like a crazy person. OH! Blueberry goodness there you are! "I'll take a blueberry, please." She hands me the blueberry and takes me $1. I can't wait to get out of there... the polite, friendly manner is suffocating! (NOT) I take my Kolache from it's bag, toss the bag in the trash on my way out and take that first wonderful, lovely bite into heavenly... BLECH! It was awful. The bread had no flavor and the blueberry schlop was so old it had that film that developed similar to that on your gravy in elementary school cafeteria food. My kids and I love to come grab breakfast here. They try awfully hard to keep their items stocked, but if you go a little later in the day its not uncommon for them to be out. Fruit ones are delish. Great jelly, and nice soft pasty. Not too much of either, and I love that they warm them for you. Their stuffed ones are pretty good too! We like the bacon and cheese ones. read more

I eat here almost every morning and love the food they have here... the croissants, sausage rolls, polish sausage, and the chubbys are all very good... sometimes I cant decide what I want... their service is very fast even though I never use the drive thru. I enjoy the friendliness from the employees so I prefer to go inside. I wouldn't avoid this place based on the other comments here. Give it a shot for yourself and see what you think. Lone Star has by far the best kolaches in Austin. It's all about the dough! Theirs is sweet and moist and delicious. On my most recent visit the ladies in front of me said they were from Dallas and load up a bunch of kolaches to take home and keep in the freezer whenever they're in town. Lone Star also has many unique flavors. When I lived down south I went to the location on Brodie all the time. Back then they had a chicken pesto kolache that my husband adored. Every time we went in there was a 50/50 chance it would be sold out because it was such a crowd pleaser. They don't offer it anymore and I'm not sure why, but they do have kolaches with refried beans and cheese, Philly cheesesteak, and pepperoni to name a few. I'm also a fan of all the sweet fruit and cream cheese kolaches. Right now they have pumpkin if you are a pumpkin lover like me! read more

My boyfriend and I were on a mission to try every donut and kolache place in Pflugerville but have stopped trying places since we tried Lone Star Kolaches. They are so fresh and there's a huge selection of Kolaches. My personal favorite is the sliced ham and cheese (they use a sharp cheese which really just sends it right off) and he loves the philly cheese steak. They have fruit and savory Kolaches. I've had the sausage, egg, and cheese, and while it's tasty, it would be a lot better if the sausage were chopped up throughout instead of there being a huge patty in the center of the kolache. For fruit my favorite is the cherry - good blend of sweet and tart. The poppyseed sounded like a great idea, but in reality is just entirely to sweet to eat in one sitting. Definitely ask for them heated up, they're even better that way! Four stars because they probably aren't the best kolaches ever and the service here isn't that great. The morning counter employee seems uninterested, like she'd rather be somewhere else (but I guess who wouldn't feel that way if they started work at 5:30am). She gave me the wrong change once because I genuinely think she didn't know how to add it up properly...Anyway, I'll keep coming back because the kolaches are still good, and it's a fine second choice whenever La Patisserie next door is closed. read more

This location has gone downhill over the last year. We've been buying kolaches from here for years 4-5 times per week. We still shop here though the service/quality is not the same because it is the closest location to us. Unfortunately it has become extremely frustrating so we now visit once every couple of weeks. Our order is always wrong and because we order Polish Kolaches (hot) which apparently sells out quickly we were told to call in the order. Well, they never answer the phone. I've tried calling up to 5 times each time I call and it is very rare that anyone actually answers the phone for pickup orders. Why even suggest to customers to call in your order if you aren't going to pick up the phone? It would be great if the manager would look into this and work with staff to improve on answering calls and double checking orders before handing them over. I really do enjoy their company but I'm finding it hard to want to order from this specific location anymore. read more

I have been here on two different occaisions: the first time my jalapeño cheese kolache was so stuffed full of jalapeños (fresh uncooked ones, mind you - totally raw) I had diarrhea for three days afterwards. The second time I got one with bacon, which I realize was 100% raw after the first bite. I promptly threw up after eating it. Not terrible, not good. For the dieter, it's a good location to eat. I ordered a ham and cheese croissant. It was probably great two hours ago, but by the time I freed it from life on the shelf, it was past it's prime. Taking a ride on the carousel in the microwave may have been the highlight of this poor croissant's life. I dined in, so I got it at it's absolute best of circumstances. At that, the croissant was stale, and the ham and cheese were also showing their age. Why is it good for the dieter? After eating 1/3, I trashed the rest and enjoyed the diet drink.
