Wednesdays are the day you need to come in for fresh oysters. They were sold out by Saturday so I ordered the fried shrimp basket. It came with hush puppies and I ordered potato wedges. Sooooo good! Not greasy, and crispy crunchy instead! Mouth wateringly delicious! Great service and she was so friendly. Smoking allowed inside but there is an outdoor patio as well as a non-smoking too! We were at the mall today and after walking out to the car we decided an ice cold beer and a snack was in order. We hadn't been to the Oyster Bar in a while and since it was very close we decided to give it a go. Nothing much had changed inside, it's still the comfy,dark Lonestar Oyster Bar. There was one other customer in there that was talking to the waitress when we walked in. She came to our table and took our order. The schooners were icy cold. She then went back to the other customers table and began talking to him again. After several minutes, like 10, and after she took a shot with the other customer, we were finally able to get her attention to ask for a menu. She brought us a menu, and proceeded to go back to the other customer. She never asked us if we needed anything, if we wanted to order, nothing. We finished our drink, settled up and left. I know good help is hard to find, but perhaps they should start looking. I had to leave one star to post this, but that is one star too many. read more

Food was disappointing. I ordered the oysters and it took 10 minutes to get crackers and hot sauce. I I also had the fried shrimp with potato wedges that were undercooked. Our server wasn't attentive and never brought refills or checked on our table. It is a smoky environment and is definitely a dive bar but a Lubbock staple. Guy working the bar on February 1st 2023 was extremely rude. He was mad when 5 of us came in, and the place was empty. I asked him for a drink and he yelled at us as well as laughed at me and my friends. I have been a hostess , server, and barista and I understand my job. A-ok! That is a great way to describe this dive. Want your typical, dim lite, smokey, eclectic atmosphere bar? This is it. Everyone one here is having a relaxing good time, including the staff. That can be a pro or a con with the staff. I ordered a double Titos Vodka with soda and lime. It was $10.50, which I suppose is a fair price for a double of a nice vodka. Our waitress was nice and knew what she was doing. We ordered fries from the kitchen and they were your typical bar fries, only waffle style. They have all you can eat fried shrimp for $10.99 on Tuesdays. I want to try that for sure! We left around 11:15 PM, a little after they were setting up for some live music that could have been great. I noticed on their weekly agenda that they usually have live music at least once or twice a week. All in All I think we will go back when we are in the mood for this atmosphere. I gave it three stars and a lot of that was due to the indoor smoking policy. It would be greatly improved if they didn't allow it, but I suppose that is a non-smokers opinion. read more

The gumbo was all wrong, it was in a clear and stinky broth when it should have been brown and heavy in texture the sausages taste old and because this gumbo was old probably over a week old judging by its putrid smell , the chicken was dark brown and sticky again because it was old , the shrimp was bright orange because it apparently was precooked and added upon me placing my order and smell of all of this was killing me as I pretended to be ill from a bad day of drinking to prevent my incompetent bar tender from embarrassment. This was over an hour ago and my jaws still hurt from the clenching of hold in my urge to vomit! Disgusting! Now let's talk about the catfish plate I ordered! More putrid garage , the menu said a large piece of catfish it came in time over fried nuggets of disgustingness! The fish was I bit slimy because it again was old ! And the flavor was something out of this world or a trash can , the old rice awful and inedible as was the chili powder flavored beans , hush puppies nasty probably because they to were aged . I ate my salad and drank my beer and water my buddy had equally as hard of a time as I did . Will never be back to this establishment. FOR STARTERS: We have visited 3 other times prior to this event and have never had an issue. However today, we decided to eat and have some drinks. The waitress was less than friendly and her service was even worse. For food, we ordered two appetizers, a pound of oysters, a pound of shrimp, a salad and two club sandwiches. The appetizers, shrimp and oysters all came out at the same time which was the meal for half of the group. THE OYSTERS: If the name of your business incorporates the item we're ordering then we would expect it to be relatively decent. However, the oysters, and food overall, was less than exceptional considering it was an $80 meal not counting the club sandwiches due to us canceling after waiting 45 min. THE SERVICE: After waiting 45 min for the club sandwiches to come out with no explanation for the delay, we kindly asked for the check and to cancel the sandwiches. At this point is where everything changed. She immediately altered her attitude and became irritated. She walked over to the window where the sandwiches had been waiting for quite some time, and looked back at the table upset as if she couldn't understand why we wouldn't go ahead and accept a soggy sandwich that had been ready for the last 10-15 min. IN CONCLUSION: After this server clearly earned no tip and couldn't even summon up enough professionalism to issue an apology for the less than acceptable service, we decided to write an explanation on the receipt that read "oysters were worst we ever had and this was the worst service. We will not be back!!!" After that, we walked out. As we were driving out of the parking lot, she came outside to the parking lot yelling and waving at us and we couldn't believe what we were seeing. Needless to say, we will never be back and wouldn't recommend this establishment to anyone undress they are looking for a quick beer in a dive bar environment. Used to like going there to listen to the live music, but went in just recent and their bartender" woman" was totally rude". Plus she had a big sore on her face and for her being a bartender that is disgusting know they touch your drinkware. She just looked gross not even professional, like she just woken up and went to work without washing up. I love this place. I have to differentiate between the two locations, as they are slightly different. The 34th 'O-Bar' as it is called is definitely the place to go if you want to have a drink at any time of the day or night. They have killer specials on drinks, and the food is excellent as well. However, the quality of food is not as great as the location on Slide Road. On any given day, if you've lived in Lubbock for awhile, you'll run into someone you know at the O-Bar. Especially if that person likes to drink. On most weekdays it is packed during happy hour. Service is usually alright, what you would expect in a place that is more of a bar than a restaurant. The only complaint is that parking is a bitch. And you will get towed if you're not careful. read more

If you're looking for nice, easy-going people, strong, cheap drinks, good bar food, or the BEST Bloody Mary in town, then the O-Bar is for you. You can always depend on a laid back atmosphere combined with bartenders who understand that fast drunks tip better, leaving you with good conversation at every turn and drinks that kick like a mule. Make no mistake, this is a dive bar, and that's why it's awesome. They're not trying to win any awards for most beautiful, or create the fanciest drinks in town, and the restrooms can be downright dangerous to use at times (after a few drinks I mean), but it's got a welcoming, down-home feel to it the second you walk in the place. For smokers who run out halfway through their 4th or 12th drink, they've got you covered with a small assortment of cigarettes behind the bar for a price only slightly higher than the norm. From experience, the fried mushrooms are not the white button mushrooms you may have come to expect from other bars serving a similar menu, nooooo sirree, we're talkin' about an enormous basket filled with big, full-on, giant caps and stems, battered to perfection, and served piping-hot with your choice from a decent array of dipping sauces. I've never had the oysters but they look terrific. They also have a full menu if you're needing more than just a snack. I hear the sandwiches are terrific. It seems like they have about 20 big flat-screens on the walls, as well, and they'll change the channels as long as there aren't too many objections. It's usually jam-packed after dusk on the weekends so if you're traveling with a crowd I suggest you get there early enough to secure a few seats. It's always busier and sometimes impossible when school is in session. Parking is another great reason to get there early because you can forget about it after about 10PM. All-in-all the O-Bar is my choice for any after-5 o'clock drinks and snacks, over any other place in the area, that's for sure. read more

Went here 1.5 weeks ago, if I'm not wrong we went at the night Texas Rangers got beat up & become runner up for the 2nd times in World Series....ouchhh!!! ;-) love the place, the price so cheap...for the first round we order 1 bloody mary & 3 glass of beer (and the glass are huge)....for only $11 total...wow!!! Food is ok, service is terrible. I've been to this place a couple times, unfortunately I feel like every time I go I feel like the service gets worse. Expect to wait at least 15-20 minutes to get a waiter to take your order but not big deal. What really got my upset about this place is how rude and unprofessional the staff is. Last night I was getting a beer at the bar they have at the back and witnessed the bartender insulting, cursing and harassing a customer in front of me. One of us would order a beer and she tried to walk away before the next person could order. I ordered my chilton and it was just vodka, soda water and a quarter of a lime. I told my waitress that I probably won't drink it because it was gross and all she told me was "oops" didn't try and offer me anything else or to make me a new one so I ordered water and I had to remind her a few times to get me the water. Veterans and those who support the troops, BEWARE! Their policy is no out of state IDs and if you have one, they require 2 forms of ID. Not a problem right? Wrong! They apparently don't recognize military ID either & refused to serve an Active Duty Service Member. The staff needs a lesson on what is considered valid ID.. No matter your political views, I think US Military issued IDs are the most valid IDs you can get. Completely unimpressed. read more

This is the place to go if you like cheap drinks, good food, live local music and an atmosphere that says "i don't care". This is not the place to go if you are looking to meet a guy, have fancy drinks, not be around smoke or be waited on properly. The servers are kind of terrible (unless you are lucky and get Rachel) but the $1.75 schooners almost all the time, the $7 sandwiches plus fried potatoes or the cheap Oyster trays, no cover, and cozy dive bar vibes are WAY worth it. read more
