BEWARE FOOD QUALITY DEGRADATION It seems like quite possible burritos are pre-made and the Quesadilla Crunch has lost its crunch over the last couple of months and the cheese is becoming less. I guess due to inflation meat is cheaper than the other accoutrements in the Crunch Burrito, which seems odd. Be aware that if you order it's gonna be loaded with meat and no crunch like it used to be. It's not like it used to be. Will have to reconsider ordering from here as often as we do. read more

We came around 11:15 on a Saturday night after grabbing drinks and a snack from Parson's because we were still a bit hungry. The signage was super lowkey (just a drawing). We walked in through the bar side and weren't greeted so we weren't entirely sure whether we had to wait for someone to seat us. We were notified by a bartender that they only had one hostess/server and there were 3-4 other tables so we went to the main dining area and sat ourselves. We waited somewhere between 5-10 minutes before our server got to us. The lighting was extremely dim, but I still appreciated the decor and liked the vibe of the restaurant. Light wood furniture and pops of green everywhere courtesy of the vibrant indoor plants. Very minimalistic, as if they got tips from Marie Kondo :) We ordered two tacos to share as we weren't that hungry. The shrimp and carne asada al pastor were well-seasoned and super fresh. For $4 each, they're tinier than what we'd hoped, but at least they tasted good. We'd probably come back to check out the patio seating and the bar downstairs. read more

If the photos don't do this place enough justice, maybe this review will. I stumbled upon this place while walking around Logan Square. Let me just say that I've eaten my fair share of tacos all over Chicago and the tacos from Lonesome Rose might be some of the best I've had. I mean LOOK AT THEM. The tacos are affordable and absolutely delicious--AND you can have any taco as a bowl. I would have to say my favorite was the Carne Asada. And while these tacos were insanely good, the nachos and street corn were a slice of heaven on earth. The Street Corn was beautiful and absolutely delicious. I like this style corn better than the traditional "elotes" you get at Latin restaurants because it's not drenched in mayo and cheese, and rather perfectly seasoned and cooked. The presentation definitely added to the overall experience. The "truck stop nachos" were loaded with carne asada, black beans, and queso. I may or may not have moaned at my first bite. These nachos were out of this world good and I licked the bowl clean. Note: Even if you think you're full, get a paleta for desert. The toasted coconut paleta tasted fresh and almost healthy? What more could you ask for. I can't wait to come back to Lonesome Rose. This has to be one of my new favorite restaurants in Chicago. read more

Our first visit was on a Saturday night, and we foolishly underestimated how popular Rose would be (we were snookered by her name, those cheeky bastards!). Unwilling to wait two hours for a table, we entered the bar to plot a course of action. Through the kindness of strangers, we acquired two seats and ordered some drinks while updating our agenda. While we ended up going elsewhere for a full meal, the bar serves the full menu and so we did order a couple of tacos and the truck stop nachos. The nachos here are simply incredible, and absolutely demand a visit. Loaded with carne asada and soaked in queso, they are a heavy, filling dish elevated with the sweet heat from the pickled red onion, scallions, and manzano pepper. One of, if not the best, nacho plates I've had. The tacos are pretty good, too, particularly the al pastor carne asada. However, the taco selection is limited, so if you just want tacos, Taqueria Moran up the street is a better bet. In any event, you absolutely must save room for dessert, because the Soft Serve Vanilla Malt with Chocolate Cookie Crumble is heart stopping. But then, after reading those words, how could it not? We enjoyed said dessert when we returned a couple Fridays later as early birds around 5:30. Were able to get a table without delay, but be advised it fills up quickly. It also got quite noisy because there were lots of rugrats milling about who were not only seen, but heard. Oh, I almost neglected my noble bourbon boozers! The drinks were fine, but not amazing. They make a solid standard Manhattan. The drink list also has a Tex-Mex riff on the classic, but I don't cotton to caliente cocktails. If you feel otherwise, proceed accordingly. read more

We got takeout from here this weekend and it was so good! We got cheese quesadillas, a veggie burrito, and rice, beans and queso. Sometimes quesadillas don't travel well and get soggy but these were great and flavorful. Their queso was also amazing. I've passed by this mysterious building multiple times and was not sure what restaurant it was. Finally one day I decided to give it a try and it was THE BEST DECISION ON A FRIDAY AFTERNOON! A couple of us came for happy hour and ended up staying for dinner. We arrived around 5 on a Friday, and the place was pretty empty, but it completely filled in the next hour. Perhaps that's because it's easy to walk right past! The only small sign has the restaurant's rose logo, but no name. The hostess gave us a hard time about seating us before "our whole party arrived" but we charmed her into it. The house margaritas are delicious. Not too sweet, and pretty strong! They also have a pretty extensive beer list, including a couple cheap shot & beer combos. We also loved the nachos. Messy, but perfect for sharing, as nachos should be. The bbq shrimp tacos were good, not great, but at 3$ a taco, it's hard to complain. We almost skipped dessert, but my friend couldn't resist the homemade choco taco (worth it). I bookmarked Lonesome Rose on here awhile back, and my friend lives nearby and suggested we go here last night, so I got to fulfill one of my Yelp bookmark dreams! Yay! We waltzed in around 8:15-8:30ish, and were told that there'd be about a one hour and fifteen minute wait, but that we could wait by the bar. That's understandable for a Thursday night in Logan, so we sat at the bar (which is full-service, so if we wanted to order food there, we could). It was International Margarita Day according to social media, so my friend and I each indulged in a prickly pear and hibiscus house margarita ($11 each, but STRONG), and we also ordered guac and chips. We probably sat at the bar for 45 minutes before getting a text from the front desk saying our table was ready. Those sly foxes! The main room was lit mainly by candles, so it was romantic and also made me a little tired, but I think the alcohol contributed to my sleepiness as well. Our waitress was lovely (I didn't catch her name, but we sat at the table closest to the front desk at 9:15ish last night) and didn't pressure us when we didn't know what to order. She was SO quick bringing our second margaritas out as well, which was impressive because it was so busy in there! I'm glad I got to fulfill one of my Yelp bookmark dreams at this fairly-priced, minimalistic, desert-themed, cozy restaurant. Came here once before COVID and now also during COVID! The quality of food, service, and cleanliness has been superb during both experiences! Ordered the Fish Taco, Al Pastor Taco, Chips and Guac, Elotes, and the Paloma cocktail! Both of the tacos were amazing! The Fish was super flavorful and the batter was fried to perfection! Every bite was heavenly! The Al Pastor taco also had the perfect balance of flavor and of course the pineapple citrus added the zing to each bite! The Elotes were yummy, but for the price, it was surprisingly small. Can def be shared if there is other food going around or eaten by yourself! The Chips and Guac is great for sharing, the guac is super fresh with chunky avocado pieces! The seasoning is on the light side so if that is what you prefer then this is perfect for you! My husband and I hosted a party for our daughter over the weekend at Lonesome Rose and it perfect from start to finish. The service, food and overall attention to detail made the afternoon one my dear daughter will never forget. I need to make an extra comment regarding our server Leann who was so very accommodating and made it all seem " easy" which I know it wasn't with a group of 22. Pete also made sure all was going smoothly, and I had the impression he was committed to making sure the party was one all would enjoy. We loved all the tacos but the fried chicken one was the overall favorite, and the Bang Bang pie was perfect. Thank you, Lonesome Rose, for making Clare's 24th Birthday one she will never forget. This was the perfect choice for an evening where I was both ravenous and not wanting to make a long night of it. We started with the queso which was ample and came with more queso than chips. Never fear, though, our server brought MORE chips and we didn't even have to ask. I got the shrimp and carne asada al pastor tacos both of which were good and not skimpy on the fillings. The pastor is clearly not 100% traditional but quite tasty. You can also get the taco selections in bowl form. My agua fresca cocktail was fine but not mind blowing. I think I probably should have gotten a more complex cocktail. Next time. Our server was friendly and quick and the space is cute. Come for the tacos, stay for the extra chips. read more

I used to wholeheartedly love this place, but I feel like the food standard is decreasing. They used to have my favorite steak taco, but now it's a thin piece of steak instead of diced. There was also way too much avocado on it. The ground beef taco was served on a semi crispy shell. The majority of the shell was SOGGY. The fried shrimp taco had ground shrimp in it as opposed to whole shrimp, and it just wasn't that good. Maybe you guys are trying new recipes or maybe there's some love that's missing, but please don't lower your standards because of covid. It was a Land & Sea Dept. kind of Saturday night. From the makers of Longman & Eagle, Parson's, and Lost Lake, comes their next venture, hipster tacos of course, a.k.a Logan Square's version of Big Star. Their menu is more extensive and the space is much more comfortable. No outdoor patio though. It's on the same stretch of California as Bang Bang, so there's still free parking to be found (oh please stay away ParkChicago droids!) Of the tacos we tried the Fire Chicken, Carne Asada Al Pastor, and the Baja Fish. The chicken had an Asian spin with nori, gochujang, and pickled radish, but it mostly just tasted a tad spicy. The carne asada was tender and tasty, but didn't really taste of pineapple as typical with al pastor. The baja fish was also tasty, except the slaw a bit too acidic and overwhelmed the flavors. All tacos are served on housemade corn tortillas, except for the fish, which is on a flour tortilla. Normally I prefer corn, but their flour tortilla is amazing - soft and pillowy, like a cross between a tortilla and a pita. They also serve their breakfast tacos on flour. Oh a nice touch is that the offer all the tacos as a bowl option for about $3 more Also tried the Truck Stop Nachos and the California Ave Street Corn. Both chock full of flavors. Wanted to try their guacamole and corn soup but they were out waaaaaah. Then later I saw the table next to us get the guac and I was like WHAT LIES and apparently the avocado shipment just came in and they kept raving about how it was the best guac ever because the avos for so fresh and I had major FOMO but was too full. But I'm never too full for dessert! For dessert we tried the strawberry mango pop rocks paleta, which is a popsicle, and the choco taco because when you see choco taco on a menu you order it. The paleta is made of like a super compressed strawberry puree it is so flavorful and it is topped with lime zest (nice touch)and pop rocks (needed more pop rocks). It's a party in your mouth. They also had another Pina colada paleta that I imagine would be good as well. The choco taco's nutty topping tasted like crumbled Butterfinger in the most delicious sense, but the soft serve inside was a bit too icy, and the waffle shell needed more chocolate IMO. I can't wait for summer so I can eat those paletas. They have an extensive booze list, with cocktails curated by Paul McGee of course, so I'm sure they're good, but I had the horchata, which has nice spices like cinnamon and cloves, and there's even the option to booze it up with bourbon for all you lushes out there. No reservations, and they have bar seating that I assume is first come first serve. Around the corner outside and downstairs is their tiny bar, Golden Teardrops, which has a short cocktail list and a very very dark interior, if you fancy more alcohol after your meal. read more

Outstanding. Easy to get seated for dinner even on a Saturday night near 6. Super kid friendly without being condescending to the level of the dreaded kids' menu. Service was like lightning. I swear the time from ordering anything, from a drink to a quesadilla, was minutes. Food was on point. My wife commented of the vegetarian taco "I would never eat anything vegetarian and I want another". My favorite was probably the carne asada, but we ordered the entire menu worth and enjoyed all. I was perhaps sightly disappointed with Fire Chicken (Korean chicken taco) because I wanted fried and it was grilled. It was still a party in my mouth. Honestly, there were about five more things on the menu we want to come back to try. Drinks are similarly solid. Mostly tequila and mezcal base, as you'd expect, but others are available. They get major points for their use of Sherry as a flavoring, it features in several items, often complementing pineapple juice. It's not exactly craft cocktail, but it's a close neighbor. This was best in their frozen margarita, which combines sherry, mezcal, and prickly pear. Best frozen I've met in a long time. Also good in a Palo Verde Fix. The weakest of the bunch was their house margarita, which was fine, and reasonably strong, but not worth having a second. A return visit will happen. read more

Beautiful rooftop dining area, great food, and by far the best bonus is that they are currently offering non alcoholic frozen margs! The need to separate the booze so it can travel for to go orders means a win win for anyone who is looking for a good slushy with their food. They are doing a great job with Covid precautions and each time I have been, I have felt safe and still attended to. The staff are in great spirits and totally deserve extra big tips (which I hope you are giving if you're eating in person). If you're looking for authentic Mexican food, this isn't your spot. And why would it be when there are plenty of family owned spots in the area you should also be supporting. It feels like, to me, that back when they opened they read the room and went with something a bit lighter. You have to respect that and stop holding that against them or complaining that it's "Americanized". It is what it is, and that's super delicious. read more

This review is for the breakfast menu only. I haven't been back to try the all-day menu, but I don't think I will return, considering how underwhelming breakfast was. The breakfast menu (pictured) looked a little bare bones to me, but I kept an open mind. I thought that at $3 per breakfast taco, there would be something special or an added flair to it. We got one carne asada and two chorizo tacos. When they came out, they were wrapped in tin foil. I didn't expect that because we were dining in, not to-go. Upon unwrapping them, we were presented with what looked like the sausage breakfast burrito from McDonalds lol. The carne asada taco had approximately 3.5 pieces of meat and the rest of it was filled with under-seasoned eggs and a sprinkle of cheese. The best item on the menu that I've had is the southwest chicken empanadas, which go with a delightful jalapeno ranch. Such a cool place! We are air bnbing in Logan Square and this is a perfect spot for a mexi-brunch. The inside has a nice vibe with a lot of natural wood and plants. I got the Bristket Hash and my S.O. got the Mushroom Tacos, plus we enjoyed a margarita (for National Margarita Day) and a mimosa. The hash was amazing, the drinks were great, the service was wonderful, and the prices were reasonable. Will definitely go back to try the queso. read more
