These are wonderful people that do great job taking care of these cats and finding them safe homes. If you notice the only negative reviews are from people that did not deserve to adopt so they decide to go on yelp and badmouth them. Shameful. The cat we just adopted is wonderful and doing well. They were excellent and helping us pick out the right fit for our family.

The place is really small, terrible workers with no manners and professionalism. One advice find other places to adopt like the one in freeport even long beach any place is better thn this one.

My relationship with kitty cove started 13 years ago when I adopted the love of my life, rosie. The process couldn't have been easier. After some paperwork and reference checks, we were on our way home with my sweet girl. I've had many cats over the years and she is by far the sweetest. Her foster mother did a wonderful job socializing rose and preparing her for her forever and loving home (my home). I don't know why I haven't reviewed kitty cove sooner as they deserve such a positive review....they gave me the best gift a girl could ask for. Since Rosie's foster did such an amazing job and I have much experience with raising kittens/cats, I decided to give back and become a foster myself. I am currently fostering a litter of four beautiful kittens from kitty cove and I couldn't be more grateful to be apart of their upbringing. My only caution to you regarding kitty cove, if you dare enter their doors....be prepared to fall deeply in love!!!!! Thank you so much kitty cove for all that you do!

Let me start this post by saying that anyone leaving a negative comment about Kitty Cove is just upset they weren't accepted as a suitable adopter. My experience with Kitty Cove could not have been more pleasant. The staff here are very friendly and deeply passionate about the cats in their care. They take in strays, often sick or abandoned, and do everything in their power to nurse them back to health so they may find a furrever home. It's wonderful that you're able to visit and play with the cats so you really get to know them before bringing one home. The application process was extremely straightforward: tell them about your household (pets, children, landlord), employment (are you home enough to care for a cat?), and beliefs on declawing. It's nice that I get a portion of my adoption fees back once I show proof that I fixed my kitties. Special shoutout to Alison, her passion for what she does is really amazing, and she will work with you and be very clear and open about what to expect and how to ease the cat into your life easily. She really knows each cat's personality very well. Thanks to Kitty Cove, Mila and Sibi have been added to our family, and we couldn't be more in love! My advice: stop by on a Saturday and check out the cats and the staff for yourself. If your home environment is safe and right for a kitty, you won't regret coming to Kitty Cove!

I let my vet know they would be teaching out and that vet check went quickly and smoothly. Meet and greet was easy and everyone hog along wonderfully so the adoption was finalized and we could not be happier. I started volunteering with this rescue because I believe in the cause and the process and the people in this rescue! If I had any reservations I'd be volunteering elsewhere Most of the negative reviews are from people who were not chose for a particular dog because of the dog's specific needs or personality or because they were unsuitable adopters (dogs are not vaccinated or spay/neutered, lied on the application, etc). Sometimes people have their heart set on a popular dog and it's hard for fosters but they will pick the absolute best home possible so they have the best chance at a FOREVER home possible. Some people don't want to admit they aren't the best fit and retaliate in the reviews so please read negative reviews with a grain of salt. Talk to the volunteers who are also adopters. There is a reason for their loyalty. It's because this organization is amazing and the leaders and volunteers are as well!

They are one of the few organizations that TRULY vet out adopters to ensure the dogs get placed in the proper homes. I've volunteered with and even perused adoption events at various organizations and not one vetted me like Badass did. If you want to open your home to a rescue, I highly recommend Badass :)

I'm a former in shelter volunteer turned foster (at least for now) for AMA. They have the sweetest…read morecats/kittens that I've dealt with in a long time, besides my own adopted cat. AMA works strictly with sick, abused, and neglected cats and dogs (although I'm completely a cat person), which is more up my alley than working with perfectly healthy animals (my cat is special needs - he's three legged, so that's how I got into working with sick/special needs animals). I've been with AMA for about six months now, and while I wish I had discovered this rescue first, I unfortunately came across Animal Haven first (AMA all the way - AMA is much cleaner and nicer than Animal Haven). AMA is my favorite Brooklyn shelter, and I know people who have adopted from or volunteer/work at other Brooklyn shelters and have somewhat of an attitude when it should be about the animals in need and not about one's ego. Yeah the adoption fees here at AMA are mandatory (unlike the ASPCA where I also foster - they have voluntary adoption fees based on what you can afford; nothing is required besides being a good quality adopter in the eyes of the adoption team there) and higher than you'll see elsewhere, but the animals are genuinely cared for and loved here. The adoption fees aren't the highest in the NYC area for cats and dogs, but they're higher than most other shelters that I know of. It's hard to not get attached to some of the animals there, and I can name a handful of cats that I've grown attached to since the end of March when I came into the shelter for my first shift: Chewy, Spring, Autumn, Tiny, Puff, Kiki, Sushi, Chili, Maple, and my foster, Muffin. It's hard watching them get adopted, but it's also super exciting to see them find where they belong. Here are some final words - if you like cleaning, socializing, meeting new people in person, having some form of structure to your week, and getting out of the house, then you should volunteer in person at the shelter. If working with too many animals at once is overwhelming to you but you still want to help out, consider fostering - AMA covers 100% of costs (including vet visits which any animal lover knows can get expensive), and Mariya is always available to talk to if you need help.

I had the pleasure…read moreof working mainly with Jovanna who was so incredibly thorough in the interview and chats to identify what would work best for me and my cat and who the current cat residents were at the shelter. We decided to foster Alfafa over the holidays to potentially adopt if he was a good fit for the household. It's very clear from my interactions with them that they value every animal dearly and take the extra effort to make sure every potential adopter/foster is the best fit possible. Their application is thorough, they take their time to make sure there's a good match, and it was clear the cats were well taken care of at the shelter. I highly highly recommend anyone considering to adopt or foster to work with AMA, I can't overstate how much respect I have for their work, mission, and the people there.
