We went to Chicken Express a couple of months ago for pickup. The service was excellent and the food was good. Hot, nice big pieces of chicken. Went in there today to pickup expecting the same great service which it was, but the food this time was subpar. The chicken was small and over cooked. The rolls were squashed flat as a pancake and way over cooked. The tops were almost black. The okra was ok. To say the least we were very disappointed. We thought we had found a new chicken place as the old place has gone way downhill. read more

First I just want to point out that when you order gizzards they are fresh each time! I would say that's a plus, the lady did tell us it takes about 8 minutes because they are made to order. We didn't mind though, we got our soda and happy with that. Service was quick and friendly. This was my mother first time here and it was a good experience. I'll start with this message to Chicken Express. You would got a five star rating if your folks hadn't messed up the order. That said. I was pleasany surprised with what I have had from there so far...exce0t ONE THING! My wife brought home some fried chicken one night from here and it was decent and so was the tea so today I ordered some other stuff from there. I had. 3 piece Fish with Mac & Cheese and Okra and an order of chicken livers. Forst, the chicken livers from this place are ha ds down the best in town. They make them fresh and to order ( took 8 minutes extra so fair warning if you're in some kinda hurry). The fried (catfish?) were 3 very large fillers that were tasty and fresh ( as can be this far from shore). The MaC & Cheese was thick and cheesy and delicious.... How was the fried okra? aI dunno I never got it. Instead I got some crinkle fries which tasted old and stale. I'm not a fan of fries in general, but the crinkle fries from Burger Boy are by far the best (beef tallow). These were cold, old, stale and no where near as good. If they'd tease been decent I wouldn't be as upset about it. So no Fried Okra. Maybe next time? The corn Fritters thingies were ok too despite them being another thing g I normally don't like. I got the 16-piece mixed with macaroni, green beans. coleslaw and a biscuit today. I intended to go yesterday afternoon but a thunderstorm with a heavy downpour made me change plans. I ate some of the chicken and ate one of the biscuits and enjoyed them. I will start on the macaroni and coleslaw tomorrow. (I have a container of leftover vegetables from a previous homemade dinner in my refrigerator and will eat their green beans when those are gone.) The chicken seems to have been fried in what I'm guessing is a corn-infused batter and is what gives it an interesting, country taste. read more

This place finally opened after what seems like forever. Right on De Zavala next to auto zone. They were very friendly and the menu is pretty straight forward. Got a three piece chicken with fries and a 4 pc tender for my son. Both were fine. Fries were good. Sweet tea was real good. The condiments and napkins are all behind the counter for now. And the drinks. Looks like there may be an area for them to add a station in the future. Pretty fairly priced for what I got as well. I'll go back. read more

I went last night and the big white girl had a nasty attitude. I checked my order before leaving and saw my mashed potatoes were not in it. Chicken Express is better than Bush's but they are almost the same in their regular chicken tenders, biscuit/roll, and sweet tea. Chicken Express differs in that they have a spicy tender option that is very tasty, and have sweet baby ray brand sauce options which Bush's does not have. They have fried pickle chips that are crunchy and good. Their fried okra is tasty as well. The boneless "hot bites" wings are not sauced but have a good flavor on their own. I had high hopes but they were quickly dashed. Wife loves the corn nuts... which is why we stopped. The first indicator that this wasn't going to turn out well was every single table in the empty restaurant was dirty. Every ketchup package was sticky. The iced tea was old and had a pungent taste. The fries were old and lukewarm warm. The chicken tenders were also lukewarm. The wife ate the corn nuts and seemed to enjoy them. That's the only good thing I have to report. So, to recap, corn nuts were good; everything else was bad. We tossed most of the meal. One more thing for the employee... put the darn smartphone down and wipe some friggin' tables! read more

Third time to come by here.. Chicken tenders are great! A good size and very tasty! I've ordered the catfish last couple of times and it was so good... well worth the 8 min wait! Lots of sides to choose from. My favorite is the corn nuggets.. Gave me watery gravy. Came with a friend and we both got the exact same meal but I ended up having to change something at the window and they seemed annoyed and made my gravy watery cause they knew which box was going to me cause I asked for an item to be taken off. There's no way it was an accident cause we came like 30-40 minutes before they close and the only people in line the whole time we were there. Saw that this place was finally open and decided to give it a shot. I was pretty impressed with the quality of the food. The sweet tea was really good, and the jalapeño poppers were amazing. The spicy chicken tenders were very good as well. The pricing of the items was decent as well. Happy that this place is less than half a mile from home, very tasty and convenient. read more
