I truly feel that the you aren't getting what you're paying for anymore. I ordered a prime rib monster bowl for $10(a special deal). It's normally about $16. I was very hungry and didn't take a picture of it. The monster bowl wasn't full and I expected it to be enough food for two meals. It was just enough for one meal. They should have given me more rice and beans. The meat was in good portions. I've never received bad customer service. Unless it's a really amazing deal, I can't justify paying for the food at Freebirds unless I am there to ask for more of the basic stuff(Beans and Rice). I was taking out some locally based coworkers out to lunch and one of them suggested Freebirds. He told me the idea behind it and it made me think 'Oh, like Chipotle?' Sure, they're similar, in the same way that Blockbuster and Netflix lets you rent movies. Freebirds has way more choices from start to finish. First, there's the size options from a 1/2 size to a monster double size. They had some special protein options to so it doesn't get a monotonous and the veggie options are almost too much. Oh, did I mention the cauliflower rice option? On top of that their chips and queso are pretty friggin' delicious-they're both lighter in texture but pretty delicious. The additional options does mean that your food could end up with a pretty pricey meal but it's a premium that's worth it. read more

This location is nice and clean, the staff is friendly. I like the variety of tortillas that they have, the vegan options and the many sauces and dressings. Did not receive everything that was paid for. Got home and found the chips and queso were missing. Called the store and was told they would refund that amount but it would take 3-5 days. It has now been 10 days and no refund. They also automatically charge a qratuity. If I feel like they deserve a qratuity, that is something that I should have control of. Would not recommend based on this experience with them. You are better off going somewhere and having a waiter take your order. Been a customer for years. Great food every time. But my last 2 visits I've noticed a major lack of hospitality. I've been treated like a transaction and not a human. This isn't asking for a lot. Have gone to this location for many years and always had a pretty good experience. Most experiences were 4 or 5 star. This time is honestly probably the last time we'll be going though, sadly. Ordered a kids bowl, two burritos, and a "large" chips and queso to go. When we get home, we check the bags and see that the chips equate to about a pinch worth. There was nowhere near enough chips to finish the queso. The burritos both were almost entirely bean and rice. The meat, the expensive part, is hardly identifiable throughout the burrito. So I call the place to express my displeasure. I tell the woman answering the phone that there's hardly any chips. We are used to getting nearly a bag full of chips. She informed me that they've changed their policy to limit the chips to specific measured amounts and that is what we received. So basically, don't waste your money overpaying for chips and queso here, is what I heard. The woman answering the phone sounded impatient and as if she couldn't care less about what I was saying, and I don't blame her. She probably gets paid peanuts to be worked like a horse and then forced to rip off customers and deal with the backlash while the CEO making decisions to decrease serving sizes gets paid big money and doesn't have to deal with any of it. My issue is with the management here and their decision to obscenely limit their portions, which were already not exceptional to begin with. I won't be coming back here because it's become a waste of money. It is evident that this restaurant has decided that it is more important to squeeze customers for money than it is to actually provide them with a service or product worth paying for. This may be an unpopular opinion, but Freebirds is waaaaaay better than Chipotle hands down. Chipotle wants to be like Freebirds, but will never come close. I hadn't been to Freebirds in a long time, but my dad came to visit for an early birthday dad/daughter day. After shopping and working on school work, we decided to have dinner at Freebirds. It was soooooo good. Even though it had been a while since I had been to any Freebirds location, I felt right at home with the funky decorations and long burrito making line. My dad and I both got burritos and drinks (refills available). We paired it with chips and queso on the side for some crunch and extra flavor. My burrito was great! It was warm and well wrapped because it didn't fall apart on me like in times past. I don't remember all that I put in it, but everything was tasted fresh and well seasoned. The queso was good and not gravy-esque like Chipotle's. The chips were salty and crispy and not stale. Unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures because I was so hungry . After I got full, I wrapped my burrito up for leftovers the next day. It was the best day 2, but still a solid meal. We ate our meal at one of the outdoor tables and enjoyed a relatively cool San Antonio evening. Pour evening entertainment was watching the long line grow at Panda Express and people trying to park or leave the parking lot. Then we got stuck in the mess. If you're coming during a high traffic time beware of parking and lines for the other restaurants in the small shopping center. Holy serving sizes, Batman! Some coworkers and I hopped over to meet up with a friend for lunch and I was floored by the serving portions here. They do NOT mess around! Our friend ordered the hybrid and for an option deemed their smallest size, that was as huge as a brick. I decided on a quesadilla on a spinach tortilla and it was totally customizable. Staff was awesome and accommodating! There's just so much variety to choose from, much more so than other spots, from your tortilla down to your meat (I mean, for chicken you can choose white or dark meat!) You would also think a quesadilla with a tortilla folded in half is skimping on the portion. It is not. That one tortilla made a quesadilla so big it served as lunch AND dinner. They let me fill my green little package with cheese (a mix blend I believe), a combo of Spanish and cilantro lime rice, refried beans, pico, white meat chicken, guac, and sour cream. Half the quesadilla kept me full for hours. The restaurant itself is relatively clean, and they work hard to keep it that way. We saw one employee washing the windows. We did notice it was a little warm inside, though it is Texas, so I can cut them some slack. They are also vegetarian friendly, as one of our coworkers abstains from meat and he was thoroughly satisfied. Also, since he joined our crew half an hour later, he utilized the Order Ahead app and was able to grab his burrito in no time flat. Smart dude! I really like Freebird's. The cashier at the register had no personality or was just rude. I said hi and she ignored me. The guy making my food was so nervous, sort of sketchy like he was watching for the cops to come in or something. Just a weird vibe from the employees. He put hardly any sirloin in my tacos which as it turns out was fine because it sucked. It was covered of this melange of orange s**t, like chorizo sauce. The pico de gallo was literally just diced tomato, no onions, no cilantro, no jalapeno. I ordered a side of guac and queso (Chipotle does not have queso) and it was good.
