When someone gives you a gift card to any restaurant you best put it to good use - because tomorrow is not promised. My hubby and I stopped in for an impromptu visit after hitting the Retro Fitness gym, which is located in the complex just behind the Longhorn & CVS parking lot off Route 1 Southbound side. At first, we were sitting at the bar since NCAA basketball as on deck. However, we moved to be seated in the dining room for faster service (because the bartenders were occupied not serving customers at the bar). We had been waiting for nearly ten minutes before we left our barstools; not once did a bartender come over with a menu, say anything, or even make eye contact with us. That was disappointing. Once seated at the booth, we were quickly introduced to Adam who was THEE most attentive server we could have asked for. Our drinks came quickly, as did our appetizer and meals. For the starter we shared the crispy Brussels Sprouts. The complimentary bread is served warm but maybe slightly underdone... still delicious though. Hubby ordered his strip steak well done with the (very tasty) rice pilaf and steamed broccoli. To me, his steak was overdone and a tad dry, but he loved it. l ordered 10oz Longhorn Salmon medium well, and it was perfectly cooked. I always love their salmon. You can never go wrong with that dish. It was served over a bed of the rice pilaf and for my sides I had the hand chopped salad and the sweet potato-which typically comes topped with butter and cinnamon sugar but I asked them to hold mine aside. First of all I have to explain the three stars. I'm basing this on what level and the type of restaurant. If I was to rate this vs all other restaurants it might be a two At best maybe a one. First of all the restaurant really needs a makeover. I just think this is from the 80's and hasn't changed since. When you walk in they barely acknowledge your existence. Now I don't expect a hug, but "good afternoon, welcome to Longhorn, how many in your party?" The hire young untrained girls that are sweet but not exactly excited about being there. We were seated not too far from the front door, actually the first row of tables next to a partition that separated the dining room from the bar. While we sat there we noticed a waiter taking care of people on the other side of our isle that were seated after us. I very politely said that we would like to order. He was nice and said he'd get someone. In a relatively short time a gentleman approached us to take our drink order. Noticing his different attire I asked him if he was the bartender, which he was. He apologized for any delay, which I must say wasn't that long and he then took our order. He was very nice and efficient. My question was, to myself, with the restaurant maybe 50% occupied why didn't we get a regular server. He had an entire bar to take care of. The food is delivered by runners. I know this isn't exactly fine dining but I believe they should put the food down in front of you rather than the end of the table. My wife ordered the appetizer chicken wings and a sweet potato. The quality of the wings is quite nice. I ordered what they call on the menu I believe a thick NY Strip with a baked potato/butter. On a scale of one to ten the $28 dollar steak was a 1. Now I do realize it's not a Ruth Chris' $62 NY Strip but honestly I should have ordered a burger. It looked marvelous, the grill marks were beautiful. They melt what I believe is butter on it making it look juicy. The baked potato wasn't bad but instead of being pure white it had a brownish overtone, telling me it was in some kind of warmer to long. Came here the Saturday before Fathers Day, about 6:00pm - full house, but no wait. Decor doesn't seem to have changed over the last decade or two, but it's clean, comfortable seating, just a "little" tacky. Warm bread and butter immediately after seating, the included chop salad was fresh, generous, and good. Skipped the apps, I had the 12oz Ribeye, Ms. I had the 6oz filet, both ordered medium rare. Ribeye was a bit toward the "rare" side, but tasted great - nice char with a tender, juicy, red-pink inside. I was happy. The filet was a bit on the "medium side" (I think Ms. I envied my kinda rare ribeye), and we asked for a replacement, which was granted, no questions asked. I think other steakhouses might have argued a bit. New filet was correct, waitress returned to insure it was satisfactory. A floor manager came later to apologize and verify we were satisfied. Servings of included sides were generous. Staff was very efficient and friendly. The bar was a bit packed, so we decided to move to a table. They brought us a hot loaf of bread which was crispy on the outside and soft and warm on the inside. Delicioso!!!!!!! We opted for the North Brunswick location as it was slightly closer and promptly drove over. When we arrived we were seated promptly. The waiter had come over and we apologize for arriving so close to closing and he was very friendly and joke that it wasn't a minute before. We promptly put an our entire order right away as we tend to order the same things when we come to longhorn. The food and drinks arrived quickly, with my ribeye being perfectly cooked. I've been to a few LongHorn's over the years and for some reason this place just works. Yes, they're still a chain out of the Darden mold so their menu is chock full of dishes called "Renegade, Outlaw and Firecracker" but when you delete the wild west hokum, their New York Strip is fantastic, perfectly cooked to order as was the perfect baked potato and side salad. And given that restaurants are now starving for help, the service here was swift and unobtrusive (and no, they don't call you Pardner or Hoss.) I'm not even going to deduct a star for the cheesy piped in countrified soundtrack featuring an endless buffet of Hank Williams (in much the same way Olive Garden punishes their guests with an endless loop of Dean Martin and Vic Damone in case you forget you're doing chain Italian.) The difference here being if you closed your eyes, the food here bears no resemblance to OG's "Roma Ginorma" Italiano facsimiles. This is one of the best restaurants in North Brunswick. My family and I came here to celebrate a birthday and walked out thinking "what a wonderful choice." On a Sunday evening around 5 PM, our party was sat right away. Our waiter took our drink and appetizer orders in a timely fashion. We were also given a loaf of bread with butter. The bread was not finished, yet the waiter took it from our table and did not bring us another. Other than this one thing, I cannot complain about the service at all. Our waiter was very attentive and brought refills before we even had to ask. For appetizer, I had the spicy chicken bites and the Wild West Shrimp. Some of the spicy chicken bites were lacking sauce. I would not order these again. The shrimp was a more than generous serving of crunchy shrimp accompanied with various hot peppers and ranch dressing. I recommend getting the shrimp. For my entree, I ordered the Parmesan crusted chicken. This is my all-time favorite thing to order from here. I love how the Parmesan and chicken mix together. This meal comes with either 2 sides or 1 side and 1 salad. I opted for the 1 side and 1 salad. The cesar salad was above average. The mashed potatoes were the perfect consistency and buttery. One thing that did upset me is that prior to visiting the restaurant, I signed up to be a LongHorn member so I could receive a free appetizer. The man got french onion soup and it looked nice but was "bland". Salad dressings were bland as well but the greens was super fresh, crisp and chilled. I ordered the Outlaw Ribeye with a baked potato, he got the Prime Rib with brussel sprouts. The brussel sprouts were the best thing out of the two meals. Though the steaks were done perfectly (medium-rare), we found a lot of grizzle and silver skin. Bad meat supplier?!? Dessert round included the Caramel Apple Goldrush and Moltan Lava Cake. In regards to the apple; it was a warm mini apple pie with a blob of ice cream knocked through the crust and covered in two syrups for a lil razzle dazzle. The (smooshed) crust WAAAY too thick, the pie was too warm because apples are sweeter/better when cooled a bit, and the syrups... Too much razzle dazzle. The Lava Cake wasn't semi-cookie cutter Lava Cake, but he felt it was a little dry and it would have been nicer had it had more goo seeping out. I don't eat that shit so... HellifIknow... We usually visit Longhorn Steakhouse a couple of times a year. There are several different cuts of steaks you can order. My choice of cut is the ribeye. It has the perfect amount of fat, thickness, tenderness, and juiciness. Although this is a chain restaurant, they take their steaks seriously. Just writing about it makes me crave some right now. This order comes with your choice of one side. I always choose rice or baked potato. I usually start off like I haven't eaten in days and then I slow down drastically with about 1/4 left on my plate. I give it to my kiddo who finished before me and wants more of mine. I also like to let the juices of the steak run into my rice, it's tastier. As we are about to finish our meal, after having the Cheesy Stuffed Mushrooms, virgin Pina Coladas and complimentary bread, I think I'll just have the small popcorn as we head over to the movie theatre. They served the bread which was really good and fresh made. I had the spicy fried chicken pieces as well and that was also to die for. However, I ordered the rib eye and the taste did not live up to my expectations as I would have wanted my steak to be. I ordered medium rare and it did not have the pan crust , rather it seemed to have been a little bit if boiled appearance and texturee. My sugestion to them is please make sure the pan is hot enough before putting the steaks in. I got cauliflower au gratin for my side and I am never getting that ever again. Went to longhorn for dinner today and can honestly say it was a horrible experience. The Waite staff was fantastic and the food was amazing. The managerial staff dropped the ball big time. There were 3 kids being allowed to run all over the restaurant jumping on the furniture disturbing the guests getting in the way of staff and worst of all messing up tables staff just cleaned forcing them to go double work all while their low life parents sat at the bar and drank. I do like longhorns. Out of all the locations I like this one the best. Servers are always spot on and never have to ask for anything. Your order is always correct and hot. Things come out actually kind of quick. Servers are always checking on you and refills are spot on. The atmosphere is different. Things move quick even if there's a line to wait. If you dont like what you ordered or it's not cooked to your liking they have no problem fixing it immediately. They have taken one of my favorites off the appetizer list sadly. So no more fried calamari which was usually pretty tasty. So if you're traveling down rt 1 and need some steak or drink hop on in to Longhorns. Even their dinners are worth it, many different selections of steak and decent appetizers. For lunch they also run a nice deal combo. read more
