I feel like this place is on a Denny's level. I tried to call to place an order to go but the line was either busy or calls werent going through. My co workers wanted longhouse so i decided to go and place a physical order. The lady working was nice and informative had a lot of patience since the orders were a little difficult. The food didnt take too long to come out. They ran out of cottage cheese so they added extra fruit to the order. The food itself didnt have much flavor, large portions (which is prob why this restaurant is so desired to the locals) but the overall quality and taste of the food was bland. If you are going for hearty, this is def the place services sizes are good and you can share an order with 2 people if you dont eat that much. read more

Really great for breakfast. Attentive staff, quick service, lots of booths ("sit anywhere!" they say), and the food is excellent and plentiful. Ate here last Saturday with 2 other individuals. Within 30-40 minutes of leaving this establishment we all experienced food poisoning. A call was placed to inform the restaurant. Based off the call I do not believe this restaurant is taking any measures to avoid recurrences of this happening to future patrons. I want to be fair. My wife and I were driving up the coast, and it was getting late. I searched yelp for a place that was open in Gilroy, and The Longhouse was the place that seemed okay, and that answered their phone to confirm that their kitchen was still open. The staff greeted us, and seated us quickly. Our server was attentive and very nice. And, I this is why I gave an extra star in my rating, for front of house staff. The problem was the food. Had I read yelp more carefully, I would have noticed that the better reviews are all for breakfast. My wife ordered a shrimp salad, and I ordered a "steak-o-bob". My side salad arrived like something thrown out of a bag of standard pre-cut salad mix, and was swimming in dressing. This was not a big deal, and the bread was good, so I ate what I ate and said nothing. My wife's shrimp salad arrived, looking fine, l but smelling off. She looked at it, and asked me if I thought it was safe to eat. As if on cue, a fly that had been hidden in the generous pile of slightly decaying bay shrimp, crawled out to offer its opinion. Oddly, my wife, who is a former server, and former restaurant manager, opted not to say anything, and not eat anything. I am sure that had we brought any of this to our servers attention, she would have dealt wit this issue properly. My "steak-o-bob" arrive on a bed of old, over seasoned, hard rice. The steak and grilled vegetables were fine, and it was near closing time for the kitchen, so I am not going to be overly critical. If it was all we had ordered, I would have rated it 3 stars. My guess is that The Longhouse is probably a fine local hang out, and good place to drink beer and wine, and maybe even a good place for breakfast. Don't eat dinner there. read more

Since Black Bear was PACKED we decided to coem here since my father gave it raves... but then again the SOB takes so many perscription pills that its amazing he can still pee standing up. Anyways. The place wasnt packed. we found a spot to park in front, got seated right away and then it all went downhill from there. Granted, the prices were decent. but the service was horrible. I am a big fan of checking on your people to make sure they have something to drink. my mom had to get up and find someone. the kids were going nuts with having to sit there with no food for 1.5 hrs. yes, thats how long it took to get our food. and THEN the refils on the drinks came. yet another restaurant bites the dust with me... read more

One of the worst mea--"restaurant experiences" I've ever had. Let's get this straight. Everyone seemed to be hustling, but the quality of everything, from service to food was terrible. Me and the hubs sit down for a Friday night meal, it seems busy, but not overwhelming. Upon sitting a waitress asks us what we would like to drink. "Water and lemon for both", we reply. This never shows up. Second waitress asks us what we'd like-mind you at this point we should have just left, but "try the longhouse" my in-laws said. Never listen to your in-laws. We get a merlot and a Pacifico. These show up. But not before the waitress rudely says "are you 21?? I'm going to need to check your ID. You just look too young." (To me) to hubs who's actually younger than me, she says "you look old enough". So great, I'll take some judgment and un-asked for opinions with my merlot, thanks. Don't get me wrong, I've been carded before, I'll be carded again. But if you want to see an ID, just ask to see the ID. I don't need you to comment on my appearance. Moving onward... I order the seafood platter, he orders the ribs. Mine comes with a salad, his with clam chowder. The soup and salad come right out. My salad is on a warm, no HOT, plate. Like you couldn't hold this plate on the bottom with the palm of your hand for more than 10 seconds without wanting to put it down - the perfect temperature for a salad! His clam chowder was so full of potato starch that he actually thought there might be cheese or something in it to thicken it up. He doesn't know food very well. it wasn't the worst clam chowder but on a scale of 1 to 10 I would give it a 3. Onward to the entrées... I've never seen a worse looking entrée priced at $17.99! like, seriously?? The garnish on my filet of sole was burned. The fried scallops it came with were rubber. It came with vegetables that my husband thought came out of a can. there was one piece of carrot that was about the size of a golf ball, two pieces of zucchini that were unevenly cut and therefore cooked unevenly, and some extremely questionable green beans. The filet of sole was in an egg batter which ended up looking and tasting like scrambled egg around fish. To be honest, the only thing on the plate that I actually ate was the baked potato. to be fair, the potato was cooked perfectly - but it's a potato. A. Potato. Which, mind you, did not come with any sour cream. Did I mention that all of the butter that they used to coat the potatoes is sitting in a tub outside of the kitchen and open? Charming. His ribs - pork - we're actually pretty good, though very fatty. His vegetables were the same sad fair that I had. I don't know how you mess up french fries, but his were barely cooked and more on the side of yellow than golden brown. Since the waitress took both of our forks after removing our plates for the soup and salad, we had to sit for a good 10 minutes before we got anyone's attention to actually give us a fork to eat with. I mean, yes it's a little brisk, but I've seen plenty of places with less stuff and more people to serve not have these problems. Just look at my other reviews! We then waited another 5 minutes to get refills on our drinks. Then I started to notice some extremely suspicious activity. Regardless of how unsettling it was but they were microwaving bread chunks for their guests, I accepted it for what it was: necessity and convenience. Beyond that, the unsettling thing I noticed was bread being moved from tables , then ushered into the back part of the kitchen and finally about five minutes later, someone would come out with "new" pieces of bread and push them into what looked like a disconnected loaf and put them into a new, fresh bread bowl, and microwave that bread bowl to serve to a new set of guests. I'm not saying that they're recycling bread. I'm just saying that they might want to stop whatever practice they're using because that's what it looks like. It's rather disconcerting that some guests are being served full loaves while other guests are being served pieces of loaves put together. Either way, a terrible experience and I will never be back. read more

Longhouse has been in Gilroy, forrevver! It's a restaurant bar mix- one at either end of the building. The food is yummy esp breakfast & lunch. And crazy easy on the coin purse. It's a town fave and as easy choice. The bar has live bands some nights as well & I've heard some amazing music piping out this place. It has a small town, old feeling to it & feels comforting. It's diner food, plain and simple. I expect this when I go in and I'm never disappointed when the meal is lack-luster. What get's me, though, is the completely lousy service provided by the female servers. They're all so jaded and old that they don't even realize they're rude and snappy. At first I was taken back by their attitude but then after a few visits I figured I'd dish it right back to them. It's kind of fun. And the great thing is I always save on a tip; they never do anything that warrants my gratuitous offering and I'm certainly not going to reward that kind of behavior. Stopped here on my way to SLO and well, it was okay. We wanted to try a restaurant that was more local as opposed to a chain restaurant and since it was the day before Christmas eve, this fit the bill quite nicely. It was an unusual lay out, very long with incredibly narrow walking room between all the tables. They did make the best use of the space so I'll give them credit on that, but it felt a bit stuffy. We had 2 servers, one was a woman and she was very rushed and kind of rude. I'm a bit more sympathetic to servers than most people, so I wasn't as offended by her rudeness as the rest of my party was. She was quickly replaced by some man that was really pushy when it comes to certain items on the menu. He pushed one of the people in my party to try their lemon grass rice even though we repeatedly expressed disinterest, but gave in because we just wanted him to get off our case. The lemongrass rice is a 1 star dish. It was incredibly tart and the lemon instead of being light and fragrant, was overpowering and very sour. Sour rice to start your meal out is not the way to go. 2 of us ordered the hot corned beef sandwich with a side salad and the other 2 in our party got grilled cheese. I think they were beyond wise for that choice. It genuinely looked like they just paid $6 for 2 Kraft Cheese slices wedged in between toasted white bread. It was an unappetizing looking grilled cheese, but they said it was good so who knows. The salad was not a salad. It was literally lettuce, shaved carrots and blue cheese dressing. It was a very, very sad salad. I was expecting maybe a cucumber or a tomato wedge, but nothing. Just sad little carrot shavings on romaine lettuce. My hot corned beef sandwich was very rubbery. I've had corned beef before, but it was never this texture. It was hard to eat as it was designed, so I had to pick it apart. The fries were okay. Obviously they were cut there, but they weren't crispy at all. It was a soft, very potato-y (similar to frozen fries) kind of taste, but the ketchup and salt saved it from being too.. bland. The service was quick, we were in an out in roughly 30 minutes so it was a good quick stop, but the bathrooms are absolutely bizarre. It's just a long narrow hallway with a toilet at the very end, the sink at one end and the trash can way on the other side. It was just weird how everything was arranged. The women's bathroom was exceptionally dirty and it was so bad that I just didn't even go. I told the people up front about it, but they just dismissed me. I felt rushed to get out of there. I don't think I'll ever stop there again, but for a quick eat it wasn't the worst place to go. read more

To begin with, a little story my friend who took me here told me: He took some of our friends here before and one of them said, "How come everyone on the menu has garlic???" and the waitress turned around and said, "You're in Gilroy!" Good thing I LOVE garlic. I ordered the Gilroy Garlic Omelette and shared it with my friend's mom. The omelette itself was okay, but the hash browns were really good! Perfect consistency, not too dry, not soggy, just a tad of crispy. The pancakes it came with were alright, nothing special but not poorly made. They were relatively fluffy actually. The portion sizes are HUGE! If you ate breakfast here everyday and didn't share your meal or take half of it home...you'd be contributing to the obesity epidemic in America. This is an old-timey place with those old wooden chairs and old decor that make you feel like you're in some divey midwestern country place off of a highway. Went there for breakfast. It took a while for someone to seat me, and a really long time to place my order, but it came pretty quickly. Got a Denver omelette, which was perhaps the worst one I've ever had. Not much flavor, and the green peppers were over-done, as if they had come out of a jar. They weren't 'green' like they should be. Took forever to get my bill, and I got fed up from waiting that I finally went to the register for attention. Seems very understaffed. My waitress was working hard and an asst. was good with the drinks. Wish I would have had more bills in my wallet that I didn't need change. We came to have a "BIRTHDAY DINNER" for my niece in July of this year we had group 8 people. We got seated in the back room near the bar area that has this accordion partition wall. The room was full and a group the same size of ours got seated the same time as we did. The group that arrived at the same time ordered,ate, and paid before our order was even taken ! Out waitress was a BITCH ! She was rude and racist ! She was catering to the whole room except us. So we get our food almost an hour after we ordered it. When It came to time to pay. My bill was wrong so I tell her to correct it and she says I'm wrong. My fiancé shows her the mistake and the waitress rips that bill out of her hands everybody heard the snap of the paper. My fiancé was ready for a woman's UFC ! So we get the manager/ co owner the place, I swear that goof ball left his balls at home. That was a horrible experience ! We will never come back, my family has lived in Gilroy since the 50's. We have never felt like it was the 1950's racist America ! This morning, my boyfriend and I went to Longhouse for a late breakfast. (I have been to Longhouse about 50 times since moving to Gilroy 20 years ago and my boyfriend has never been there.) When we walked in, I saw the waiter (Tony) that has been awesome in the recent past, he acknowledged we were there, and I asked to be seated in his area. And so we were! He recommended the Tri-tip and eggs. We both ordered it, mine medium and my boyfriend's medium rare. Our order came and it was so delicious! Mine was cooked about 1 minute too long and, while it had some pink, it was a tad more done for my taste. Still tender, I ate it anyways. My boyfriend was completely impressed, I have shown him the best restaurants in Gilroy, he has been very impressed, but with the impeccable service and comfortable mom and pop environment he really loved Longhouse breakfast. When tony came to box up leftovers, he noticed that I was taking half of my Tri-tip home. He asked if it was cooked okay and I told him my thoughts but in no way was I complaining. My breakfast was absolutely delish! He told me that it is absolutely their job to make sure that my food was cooked to perfection and I should've told him. He was great! He even mentioned that the owner feels the same way, even if I sent back a steak. That was awesome. Customer Service at its finest! read more

Food sucks here and thats the bottom line. Been here 3 times and was unhappy every time. Salad sucks....soup sucks....steak sucks....and the burgers are no good either. Service is all the washed up waitresses who have been doing this business for 40 years and smoking for 50 (which is fine with me) BUT these ladies got an attitude about them that rubs me wrong like I automatically owe a big tip regardless of service. This is just a little divey resturaunt/bar and has been in Gilroy for as long as i can remember. I only come here for breakfast when im in town or drinks at night on a (fri-sat). They recently opened up the outside patio closest to the bar which is good for the smokers and also gives more room for people to hang out. The food here is similar to what you would get at any Diner. Steak and Eggs, omlettes, burgers, sandwiches and good steak fries. Just by looking at the decor on the inside should give you an idea of what to expect. That's part of why i love the Longhouse, its so funky. I hope they never remodel, lol and thats real. read more

Super Raisin Bread French Toast Special! My parents love the Longhouse and eat their or do take-out quite a bit. I did just have a great breakfast of the best Raisin Bread French Toast last weekend - had to go back the next morning for it also. It was on the Specials board so not sure how often they have it - but the Raisin bread was served in 4 nice large slices with eggs and bacon for just $6.99. Found this gem of a place off yelp. Remembered a girlfriend telling me about this good ole diner a few months ago. Took the hubby and parents. Everyone was really happy with their meals. The meals came with a fresh tasty salad with homemade dressing. The entrees were perfect. Good portions and very tasty. Our entrees also came with dessert. Does it get any better than that. I drive by this place every time I want to go downtown. Me and my friend finally work up the courage to try this place out. It was the worst experience with food and service I have ever had. I've had better with McDonalds. When we entered the establishment, we get blank stares from the waitresses. It was as if they've never seen anyone new. All of their patrons looked as if they were regulars and have been for some time. By that, I mean they were elderly and in their 60's. We're seated without being shown to the table ,and the service felt lazier onwards. I know they're working minimum wage and its dinner rush but would it kill you to ask 'How we're doing?" or "Hi" before taking our orders. Talk about rude! Aside from service, the food felt it was taken out of a microwave. My friend ordered a steak with mashed potatoes and greens, and I ordered the chicken friend steak with a baked potato and greens. Hes immediatley mad that they pre-cut his steak as if he were a senior citizen. I get mad because I had no clue on what I was eating. It sure as hell didnt look like any chicken fried steak I've had. It barely had a crust to it, the 'MEAT' didnt even look like a steak, and the gravy looked as if it had come out of an instant box. It's pretty out - dated but the food was good, not amazing. The prices are good for what you get. A few odd things I've never seen like the side options for dinner entrees were baked potato, rice, or SPAGHETTI? Which actually was kind of awesome for me. After having a poor experience at a Mexican restaurant while in town having our car work on. We ended up walking into the longhouse. We have been there many years ago. It is a little aged inside but server was pleasant. I ended up getting a cowboy burger. It was phenomenal possibly one of the best burgers I've had and a good portion. They could've been a little more generous on the french fries but other than that everything was good. My wife ended up having The mushroom bacon burger it was very good as well.
