I went here tonight to hear some live music, which they have on Saturdays from 7 to 9 p.m. I ordered a bowl of pozole, but they were out of it. So I got the other soup on the menu, chicken tortilla ($8). It was reasonably good, though served in a shallow bowl, so the portion size was small. And served with no bread or crackers. In general, prices are high here (for example, three tacos cost $18), but it's in a resort hotel, so that is to be expected. No problems with the service. There was a basketball game broadcast on the large-screen TV, but the sound was off so it didn't interfere with the music. read more

If you're visiting Tucson and staying at Westward Look, I highly recommend finding somewhere else for dinner. We had a reservation for 11 people which I had received confirmation for the day before. When we arrived, they could not find our reservation and said they had no record of it. They scrambled to put a table together for us. The service was some of the worst I've received. We ordered 2 bottles of champagne and they took over 45 minutes to arrive. We had to ask for it multiple times. They did not offer to pour the bottle. Some others at the dinner ordered cocktails and sodas from the bar which took just as long to arrive. Water refills were hard to get as well. Some of the food was all right when it finally arrived. Some of it was cold. In total, it took about an hour to get our entrees. They comped two of our desserts to make up for the bad service. We went here with some friends for dinner on a Saturday in May. We got reservations, although we didn't really them as there were plenty of open tables. We ordered some drinks & the salsa, guacamole and chips appetizer. The salsa had a nice little kick to it. The guacamole was very tasty and chunky. For dinner, we had the salmon that was properly cooked and very tasty. We also had the meatloaf that was really good and came with mashed potatoes and asparagus that were very thick. Another person had the steak frites that was cooked to perfection and was well seasoned. And, we had the tequila pasta with chicken, where the pasta was really wide the chicken was done well and there was a hint of tequila in the sauce. Everyone was satisfied with their dinners. We sat outside on a patio overlooking the pool and south across the city. There was quite a bit of foot traffic as this patio is right off the lobby. Three of us had an early dinner at the LBG on March 7th. Overall, the meals were excellent. I had the Branzino and Risotto dish which was delicious and perfectly prepared. My wife had the Caesar Salad with Salmon, which she said was excellent. My daughter had the Meatloaf dish which she said was delicious. For dessert, we had the Churros, which were delicious also. The LBG has improved over the past year; we have eaten there several times during the last year and the meals have been excellently prepared. A solid 4-star restaurant and we will return. read more

My wife and I came here to listen to the music and grab a dinner. We were greeted and sat down by very friendly person. We then sat there for 30 minutes drinking water and nobody ever came back. I posted a picture of our table after 30 minutes, just two menus and two waters. The manager walked by us five times and there were two couples that were sat down after us ordered and got their food and we were still waiting for somebody. Our server finally came up and we said no thank you we're just gonna leave. We were prepared to pay probably $60 for two dinners instead we went to a different place. My husband and I made the mistake of having Christmas dinner at Lookout Bar & Grille. Apparently an inordinate number of kitchen and wait staff "called out", that was the excuse for our bad experience. We had a 6:00 PM reservation which we were on time for. At 6:35 we flagged someone down to take our drink order. It took another 20 minutes for our drinks to arrive. The food came much later. The beet salad was mostly tired greens with a few small beet cubes and barely any dressing. My husband had the prime rib from the Holiday Menu. It was one thin, dry, overcooked, tasteless slice of "prime" rib, same for the brussel sprouts which were spongy, the potatoes slices were clumped together like glue. I had the vegan avocado tacos from the regular menu which came with cold rice. The tacos themselves were pretty good, would have been better on the corn tortillas I asked for instead of the flour ones I received. The wait person was kind enough to comp our drinks (two glasses of wine and one soft drink) but it did not make up for an unappetizing, unappealing meal and experience. read more

The best view in Tucson! Also, the food was excellent. We stayed in the hotel for three nights and ate breakfast and dinners. The food is fresh and unique, we really enjoyed the vegan tamales and the club sandwich. For breakfast, we enjoyed the spinach and smoked salmon omelette and the assortment of grain bowls. Several vegan and vegetarian options. The ambience is pleasant, the staff members are friendly, and seem to care about the customers. Highly recommend! read more

What a disappointment. I should have read the reviews and skipped this place. Friend wanted to eat the hamburgers here as she had met another friend here and loved the hamburgers. So we met and headed into the dining room. It was a Saturday and the hotel was busy. The dining room was completely empty. A young man came from the back and told us to have a seat anywhere we wanted. He returned and said that the dining room was closed and that the bar was serving food, and directed us to the bar. We walked into the bar and the bartender told us to sit anywhere we wanted. She brought over menus; we picked what we wanted and 10 minutes later she was back and took our orders. We sat talking as the place filled up. I moved the center metal salt and pepper container away from us so we had more room. The table under the container was full of food crumbs and salt. When our hamburgers arrived (Tucson burger), friend's (ordered rare) burger was medium rare and my (ordered medium) burger was medium rare. So much for requesting a certain "cook" on the meat. The french fries were limp and not completely done. In asking for more water, it took 15 minutes to get it the first time, with me walking up to the bar with empty glasses (after requesting water 10 minutes earlier) to get refills the second time. The hamburgers were really good but this meal was not sixteen dollars good. The poor bartender was trying to keep up with all the people coming in. People were waiting for menus, drinks, food, checks- it was a mess. Just as we were leaving another server/bartender showed up to help out. I thought this place would have it together. It's an institution in Tucson that's been around forever. If the dining room is closed, people are going to want to eat somewhere on site if they're using the pool etc. But in looking at other reviews, the issues here have been around for awhile and haven't been addressed. We made reservations online for 6:45 PM because we wanted to try a new place. When we arrived inside of the Lookout Restaurant, no one greeted us. We stood around and had to ask one or two of the servers at the bar where we needed to go. Finally, Karisa Ranlord (we later found out was the manager according to our server) came up to us and asked if we had a reservation. She seemed very confused when we gave her our name and then she asked if we made it on OpenTable (we had). She had a stack of papers with notes written on the back of what looked like a children's menu and a handwritten seating chart that she was scanning for our name. Finally, she took us to the patio to a corner table (with no heat lamp) and another party's name on the table. We ordered appetizers, drinks and dinner. The appetizers came, but no one came back to our table again (not even to refill water) after that until 7:45. The manager and servers seemed to know the other guests, and they were super friendly with a few of the tables around us, but never made it back to ours. It was like being at a party you weren't invited to. Very surreal. The original server who took our order never returned, and then a new guy finally brought our meal (an hour later). We asked him about our drinks and if he could bring us some more water (& my daughter asked for mayo for her sandwich). About 10 more minutes passed and he didn't return. Finally I went and found him at the bar and told him we just wanted to cancel the drinks, we just wanted our check and more water. He was holding the mayo for my daughter and said nothing. I took it and left. Ten more minutes passed and he actually came out with the drinks I told him to cancel. We asked him again to just bring the check and water, no drinks and he said he would send the manager. We told him we just wanted the check and didn't want to speak with the manager. Soon the manager wandered over (after she and the server had a super obvious conversation in the dining room where they pointed at our table) and asked "Is there a problem here?". We explained we just wanted our check and to leave and that we had waited for our drinks and food for over an hour without even a water refill. We felt invisible and totally ignored. She said she would comp our bill which was fine but it was New Year's Eve and they completely ruined it for us. Honestly, it was a totally ridiculous and bizarre situation and needless to say , we will never return or recommend it to anyone. read more

We checked out the restaurant because they had a happy hour and the menu in the hotel room looked good. We were told the drinks and apps were 1/2 off. Nope the info in the hotel room was way different then what the waitress said. They also were not doing anything about Covid when it came to distancing, we just sat wherever we wanted to. Let me start by saying the best thing about Lookout bar is the bartender Brooke, she was excellent. The bar was busy and besides making drinks she also had tables that she was responsible for. Brooke made sure we were taken care of and never allowed our drinks to be empty before asking if we wanted anything else. We were here on a Saturday night and while there were quite a few people, the service was so slow even though there seemed to be a lot of staff who were just milling around not in any real hurry to wait on guests. Based on my experience at happy hour, the bar earned 4 stars. Among other offerings in October 2018, the margaritas and chicken quesadillas are marked down and well worth the price ($5 and $6 respectively). The margarita is fresh made in a tall glass with tequila, triple sec, and fresh squeezed lime juice. The quesadilla is generous with roasted chicken, roasted vegetables, and two cheeses. Even better, it is served with salsa made from roasted tomatoes and with a generous portion of guacamole. Sarah was the bartender. She was pleasant and friendly. I enjoyed my experience. Enjoy! Update: I went back Wednesday to a different bartender and she was not pleasant. So now I understand why this place currently averages less than 3 stars. The service was okay if a little slow paced which didn't bother us as were having multiple conversations. The bread is very fresh and delicious coming in two flavors, rosemary and garlic. 3 people at our table had the duck and proceeded to devour it. 4 of us had seafood and everything was delicious. Overall, I was happy with my experience here. My mom and I were staying at the resort for just a night, and the restaurant (Gold) was closed on Mondays. We had an enjoyable time, we started with the spicy buffalo wings, very tasty. Then we tried their homemade potato chips with truffle oil and parmesan, absolutely to die for. We finished with a spinach, pear and gorgonzola salad with a lime and lavender dressing, really fresh and delicious. The only issue we had was with the drinks. We decided to order two drinks each before happy hour ended at 6. I ended up have 3 margaritas, and they must have had next to zero alcohol in each as I felt absolutely nothing which is odd for me. They were very yummy though, hence ordering 3. The other thing with the drinks was no refills on our water...ever. I asked 3 times for more water for my mom, not what you'd expect at a sort of ritzy place. They gave me a free dessert for my birthday which was really nice, I had my choice of anything. I ended up getting the cinnamon chocolate "nachos." Wasn't optimistic, but they blew me away to my surprise. Overall, I'd certainly go again. Prompt service mostly, and tasty eats. read more

Having gone at a friend's request for her birthday, I returned to Lookout Grill hesitantly. Had been there a month before and had poor service and lack-luster food. A very small cheese quesadilla, with minimal salsa & sour cream. We ate outside and it took the server 15 minutes to come by, and this was after my friend went to search for her . Food then came quickly but both of our entrees were small and burger was over-done .Not very good. The service was quicker last evening as we ate inside, but the food was same poor quality and quantity. Grilled cheese was advertised as being made on panini bread, and it was regular thick, Texas toast type bread. Cheese was sparse and tasted like non-cheese type product such as type typically found on nachos at movie theaters. The tomato basil soup, of which two of us ordered, was served in bowls which were barely half full & luke warm. Tasted like canned soup with a slice of basil leaf floating on top. Server was informed but just said "I'll tell the kitchen". Nothing else. Another friend's hamburger was over-cooked, same as at previous visit. Overall poor service, forgettable food, and very pricey. Two strikes and Lookout Grill out. $10 for beer, almost forgot. read more

I'm going to rate the whole resort, not just the restraunt. But I'm going to start with the restraunt. My Mother said that the wine tasted like at the bottom of the barrel. She also said that the street tacos were a little dry and the cheese curds weren't from Wisconsin, or they weren't good. On the other side, My Father said that the burger was great, and the street tacos were basically the same thing as my mom said. So our recommendation is to go somewhere else than this restraunt. But, the resort was GREAT! The pools were in great shape and the pools were heated. The rooms are nice, but ARE room needs matenuce sorry if I spelled that wrong. Sad thing is--I have been staying at this hotel for about 25 years now and always liked the food and service at the Lookout. We made our usual Christmas eve trip from our room up to the bar and BOY, were we disappointed. The menu had changed. We loved their huge burgers and crispy fries, but had to settle for grilled cheese with tomato soup for me and a cucumber Caesar salad for my partner. The heirloom tomato soup was excellent, but the small bowl was only filled halfway. The grilled cheese was something a 4th grader would make, with cheap American cheese slice (1) and bunny white bread that was supposed to be brioche. Terrible!!! The Caesar was tasteless and didn't even have Caesar dressing and NO Parmesan cheese!!! We felt we had to complain to our server (after telling her we had no issues with HER) and she listened, told us the new chef had just changed the menu and comped one of our dinners. We went straight out to the desk and let them know we were not pleased. The desk clerk summoned the Food and Beverage Manager and we gave him an earful. He said the chef was not there that night and said he was thankful for our input--but not thankful enough to comp the entire crummy meal.
