Not my first time at looney (been to the one in bishop), but my first time at the mammoth location! Tucked away in the corner of the plaza you'll find a warm and inviting coffee shop. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Parking is readily available inside of the plaza as well. Lots of doggos visiting with their parents. First walking in it was very toasty lol but you adjust to it eventually. The line situation is a little interesting. When it's crowded, it wraps around and heads towards the back bar and bathroom. It's a bit difficult to navigate to the back of the line or bathroom if the seating is occupied - but manageable. Variety of pastries to choose from! I wish I snagged the coffee cake slice. Reminds me of the ones they'd serve in elementary school back at home (Los Angeles). Every pastry looked to be around $4-6. The staff were extremely friendly and positive. They made the drinks fairly quickly for having such a crowd in the morning. The breakfast burritos are pre-made and kept warm to serve in a display. :) great price point too. Bacon and soy chorizo are available for about $8-9. Mild and spicy salsa on the side. Items ordered: Bacon bfast burrito (4.5/5) - large portion! It was hefty. The spicy salsa was really nice and had a kick to it but didn't over power. The burrito is stuffed with potatoes, cheese, egg, bacon, and pico I think. Would def order again! I just wish there was a bit more bacon. Cortado (4.5/5) - pretty strong and the color was absolutely gorgeous. Not sure what blend they use but I wish there was a bit more flavor. We love to come to Looney Bean every year. During this 10 day trip, we visited three times. Our favorite drink is still the hot Velvet Elvis. We tried the coffee cake and both this year and last year, it was pretty dry and just crumbled. Not sure if they have a different baker or what. We tried the gluten-free peanut butter cookie with chocolate chips on top and it was fabulous! We went back in a couple days later to get another one. That will be our new go to. My friend also got the mango scone and enjoyed it. The selections of T-shirts and hoodies was thin this year. Looks like they've changed the logos again. My favorite is the one with the van and all the critters driving and one with the pine trees.. I looked online and there were no T-shirts available and only a few hoodies left. Guess I'll keep wearing my old T-shirts for now. LOL. read more

As soon as I walked in I could smell this was GREAT coffee. I ordered the Looney latte. Cames with whipped cream on top and 3 chocolate drops or I believe thats what they are. I ordered a small and it was so good but also so strong. It tasted like a double shot. Also ordered a peanut butter chocolate chip cookie. Very soft and chewy. This was my 3rd time coming to Looney Bean. Always a line that tells you the coffee must be good! I came with my family and my best friends and their families. Here is a list of what we all had and our rating :) Cute inside, they have merch on sale, and have a cute outdoor front patio area with tables and umbrellas to enjoy. They have seating inside, a fireplace, and a wooden kids' play kitchen for the little ones. And a self-serve area to spruce up your coffee. Iced Mexican Mocha 10/10 *add Looney Dust at self serve area for even more flavor Silky Sinatra 10/10 Iced Vanilla Latte 7/10 *was more milky than coffee tasting but still enjoyable Strawberry Matcha *Good but had frozen dried strawberries instead of fresh or puréed Vanilla Bean Frappuccino 10/10 Mango Madness 8/10 *great sweetness level but the banana overpowered the mango (still good if you like banana) Berry Berry Good 4/10 *sweetness level was about a 3-4 and tasted mostly like yogurt. We popped in from our trip back from the village. This was super cute and cozy! It was also packed as well - standing room only. It looked like everyone had the same idea - get some coffee and get out of the cold . The name of the place was what caught my attention. I mean - who isn't a little looney? First time in Looney Bean and I was absolutely charmed by the beautiful interior/decor and warm atmosphere. I ordered an iced coffee with a splash of coconut milk and coconut syrup. Came back after a nice experience my first time here only to discover I probably won't be back based on a poor customer service experience after an accidental spill burnt my hand severely. A by standing customer helped when he witnessed my distress After noticing that none of the staff saw what occurred I asked for something for my hand. She brought me a bunched up paper towel with cold water. I told her my hand was pretty badly burnt and that I would require ice. She brought me ice in a paper bag. In the meantime, my husband went to get me a glass with water so I could dip my hand into icy water. I walked over to him because the paper bag was falling apart. At that point there was a young lady who was cold and somewhat dismissive of the situation. She proceeded to tell me it was an issue "how I talked to her staff". I was a bit taken aback and proceeded to explain that when a person gets burnt with scalding hot liquid, the situation is actually reactionary and clarified that I did not "yell" at her employee when I requested help. Sadly, there was no empathy, sincere apology or offer of genuine concern. This leaves a bad impression and now reflects poorly on a small local business. It's my general practice to support local businesses and I wish ownership had trained their employees on how to handle injuries. I'm starting to see a blister form on my finger and attaching a photo of the cup AFTER the spill. It's still full and probably how full it should get served, rather than literally to the rim where it's impossible to pick up without spill risk. read more

Looney Bean is a nice spot tucked away in a strip mall. We stopped by for an afternoon pick me up and had a simple iced latte. It seemed to be fairly steady. People were in and out the entire time we sat and enjoyed our drink. Locals and non-locals seemed to enjoy the Looney Bean. Service was good. Line moved quick and drinks came out in a reasonable time. The coffee was good, but didn't blow me away. I wish it had had a bit more espresso flavor. They did have a small pastry case and some merch for you to enjoy. Ok so, Looney Bean in Mammoth is a gem! After a weekend of hiking and exploring, my friends and I were looking for a cozy spot to grab coffee. We originally stopped at another coffee shop in town, but the vibes just weren't right. Thankfully, my friend suggested we try Looney Bean, and it was perfect! The atmosphere is so welcoming - whether you sit indoors in their cozy space or enjoy the fresh air on the outdoor patio, it's a really relaxing and inviting place. I feel like it's locally owned, which makes the experience even more special. Anyway, I ordered a lavender latte, and it was absolutely delicious - just the right balance of floral and espresso. I also got a sticker hehe. I only wish we had arrived earlier to try one of their breakfast burritos. They sounded amazing. Of the 3 coffee shops we tried, this one was most affordable and had the best looking pastries available. Also found a cute mountain mug as a souvenir! I got the sweetened matcha, which was appropriately sweet but not very strong in matcha flavor. My partner got the cappuccino, which was just okay but that may be because he upgraded to a bigger size. Next time would like to try their chai latte or Nutella latte instead. Finally had a chance to come here after passing by the one in Bishop so many times. This location is in a shopping plaza on the corner of Hwy 203 and Old Mammoth Rd. It's kind of tucked in the back of the plaza. I believe this plaza was where the old Rite Aid used to be, but looks like it's shut down now. The shop has seating inside and out. I ordered the Lavender latte and a coffee bread. Just remember that they charge for everything here like syrup and milk alternative. My large coffee ended up being $7.40. Can't complain about the taste. It really hit the spot on a cold day. The coffee cake has good flavors, but I can't get over how it just all crumbles when you bite in to it. I'm pretty sure it's some kind of vegan flour or something. It's totally my fault for not looking at the ingredients. Just be careful when you order something from their baked goods and make sure to take notice of the ingredients. read more

Decided to try this spot after trying the other coffee shop I usually visit when I mammoth. The other coffee shop was sooo crowed and it now has Starbucks vibes. Looney bean has plenty of parking and very warm and cozy feeling. Tried cold brew and a blueberry scone. The prices are very fair which I appreciate so much since all other businesses have raised their prices so much!! I think Shelly is the owner and just watched her interaction with the staff.
