The service was fast and friendly which was nice. The restaurant was clean. The food left a lot to be desired. It was mostly bland and just not exciting. I got the combo box with haddock nuggets and clam cakes. Both the haddock and clam cakes tasted like nothing- over fried and under seasoned. The pineapple coleslaw had promise and I was excited to try it but it was just coleslaw with too much Dole crushed pineapple mixed in. I wasn't impressed. The roll was stale and dry. My shrimp Alfredo was microwaved spaghetti with store-bought sauce, parmesan on the side in a plastic cup. It was rich, but flat and bland. The garlic bread was pre-made and overcooked. The shrimp were cocktail style, with the tail shells still on. My husband's meal was a handful of cheap scallops, shrimp and a smattering of fries. The scallops were greasy and cheaply made. The server had to explain what we were getting was sold by weight, so that was a red flag. You could tell she'd gotten a lot of complaints by her apologetic demeanor. Ordered a haddock sandwich with coleslaw and fries, no complaints the food was great! hit the spot !! and the service was great too, the girl on the phone was very nice and the cashier was nice as well. the only reason i'm knocking one star is because they aren't allowed to accept tips, which I find strange. Four of us went to Lord's recently and the fried seafood is at least as good as it is anywhere else. The batter is a little lighter and less greasy than many other places and the menu is huge. The people working at Lord's are also much nicer than at many of the competition's places. They can speak, they understand the menu, and they can actually make change if you pay cash. It's amazing that this is a big deal, but it really is. I'm not a big fan of the pineapple cole slaw but I'm sure I could get something else. If you're near Lord's, check them out. read more

They truly live up to the slogan "Legendary chowders." Ive had lots of chowder up and down the Maine coast and Lords is the only place where I've seen nearly a 1/3 cup of tender and sweet clams in a large bowl of chowder. This place has more clams than potatoes. That is typically unheard of. The soup is on the thinner side, but that's OK! Because I always find the thicker chowders taste like flour. Lords truly knows what they're doing when it comes to chowder. Much better than even in Portland or the beachside joints in the area. The only change since they've opened is sadly they used to have a few whole steamer clams IN the chowder. They no longer do that which makes me extremely sad. Their seafood chowder is equally tasty. While a lot of seafood, it's mostly heavy on fish and light on shrimp. I've only had their fried selections once and found them only okay. Portions a tad small for the price. So we stick to the chowders. But we really enjoy their hand breaded onion rings. read more

These women and men are the best! Lord's Clam Box is super clean, genuinely friendly all the way around, and the clam roll is simply top notch. Take this from someone who has dug and fried his own clams and eaten those of many restaurants in eastern NH. My dining companion and I enthusiastically praise the whole clam roll box with Lord's unique fresh coleslaw, highlighted with pineapple, and a nice portion of fries as the very best around at a super price of eight bucks! Worth the trip to Sanford! The kindness and genuinely attentive service of the employees at the counter are a sure sign that they are happy employees well taken care of and respected by management and ownership. This place used to be the best and freshest seafood around. We eat there at least 1 a month. The Fishermans platters have had bad scallops twice and there was once with bad clams that made 3 people in the family sick. We tried to keep going there but the food just turns our stomachs now. Visited this afternoon with an old friend and fellow lover of fried clams, who had been talking Lord´s up to me for a couple of years. The delicious clam rolls and onion rings more than exceeded expectations! An abundant serving of clams on a perfectly butter-grilled New England style hot dog roll was the heart and soul of this super meal. Lord's clams have a crumb coating with an nice crunch, done golden brown. Nice sized clams with small tasty bellies. Very fresh! Onion rings came in a generous portion for "small" with plenty for my friend and me. The staff are very friendly, service-oriented and unassuming. What a great place, a local place with a modern decor styled in the 1950s. Super clean and well laid out. With patio dining complete with awning if desired. The food I had was a clam strip box. Which came with fries and coleslaw and a bun and butter. It was well portioned for $11.99. The clam strips which I have never had before were super tasty cooked to perfection. The fries were great too, cooked and seasoned just right. It came with a small container of cole slaw that had pineapple in it, fantasticly good. I will visit again when in the neighborhood, it is a distance to drive for me. Also be aware of construction on 109 and 202 if coming from Greater Portland. Hopefully that will be done before winter. They also have several beers on tap (surprise) along other bottled beers and I saw wine too in the little bottles and boxes for single serve. The peeps are really nice here too, I had no issues at all. Of note, the owner is in the store all the time overseeing the customers and ordering as well. Our first time and food was okay. I was very disappointed in the service. I asked for an item they said they didn't have, went in and sign up that they did have the item. Placed a 100.00 order when I asked if I can I add the item bc they said they didn't sell it told me it would be an additional 40 minutes. Lol. Then my other food would be ice cold. I'm very happy to finally have tried this place. I work practically nextdoor, and pass it everyday, but haven't had time with their hours, and when I work, to stop in. My coworker was ordering something for dinner tonight, and decided on Lord's, so figured I'd have her pick something up for me too. I tried the combo box, choosing calamari & clam strips. I haven't had calamari in a very long time, so was looking forward to this, and was not disappointed. I was wary about trying pineapple coleslaw, but again, not at all disappointed. I like they lightly peppered their French fries as well, which I wasn't even going to eat, until I noticed that. I will definitely go here again, but next time, I'll dine in, only because of one of my only complaints... Getting the food as takeout, it was not hot anymore, eventhough I only work a couple buildings away. My only other issues, were not enough marinara for the calamari, I wish the coleslaw portion was larger, and the tartar sauce seemed too acidic; otherwise, this was a great experience, and I'm looking forward to likely an even better experience next time, as a dine-in customer. read more

I've been here before and it was always good and decent portions. My friend ordered a baked haddock dish, again absolutely tiny portion for $. When I asked for extra tarter sauce the girl argued about it. Saying there was 1 in the box, so she gave me 1 more. All around not happy with this place. Clams are not the best in Maine (heavy breading and were they frozen?) but the service is super friendly and the place is immaculate. Cleanest restaurant in Sanford. We just happened on this place while meandering back roads on our way home from vacation. Delighted to find terrific fried seafood at reasonable prices. The clam strips were tender, far better than we've had elsewhere, including waterfront restaurants. The breading is not greasy either. Lord's Clam Box has always been one of our favorite places to dine in the area. My sister had decided to have the clam chowder. Within 10 minutes of consuming it she was in the bathroom vomiting and having diarrhea. My mom brought it to the managers attention that she had gotten sick off of the clam chowder, seeing it was the only thing she had consumed along with a roll. We immediately knew she had contracted food poisoning off of the corn chowder. When brought to the managers attention his response was "we're going through too much of it for someone to get sick" and "there hasn't been any other complaints." Especially since we walked out of Bonanza Steakhouse down the road (although they have an extensive menu, it's all blah unless you want steak and potatoes.) My friends wanted Lobster Rolls so we went down the road and had lunch here. Lords was hands down the better choice.
