I am screaming: WE GOT A RESERVATION AT LORD'S. My friend and I ate here on Friday evening, I was able to get a reservation for 5:45PM after much battling with Resy at 11:59am, three weeks in advance [ugh]. This meal gave me feelings, feelings and life. I can't remember the last time I ate such a great meal. We started off with the chicken liver parfait + chanterelles [$22] and the curried lamb scotch egg [$12]. That chicken liver parfait ...woooo. I was mesmerized at first bite. It was so creamy and unctuous. Loved the cornichons on the side for a hit of acid. I have had my fair share of chicken liver parfait and this one ranks among the best. The scotch egg was good, my friend enjoyed it more than I did. The white sauce underneath was nice. I liked the gaminess from the lamb. The roast scallops with black pudding and squid ink [$26]. Ugh, it was so good, it makes me want to cry. The sauce, I'm assuming was the squid ink, it was addictive, I was spooning it from the plate. And the pickled onions on top were such a nice surprise. You wouldn't even know you're eating blood sausage unless you knew. I wish the portion size was bigger. We shared the pie of the day [$38], chicken, pigs trotter and leek. Sharing was a wise move, as we were both started to feel slightly full at this point. Ufff, the crust on this thing was magic. It was so flaky and perfect, definitely made with tons of butter or lard LOL. The chicken was so soft and tender and the sauce it swam in felt like thanksgiving. Dessert was another experience. We ordered the queen of puddings [$15] and the apple and calvados trifle [$16]. Whatever you do, get the queen of puddings. I would give two Paul Hollywood handshakes for it. It was WARM and jammy. The meringue caramelized which blew my mind. It looked absolutely stunning. The trifle was nice and had all the fall slices but there's no comparison to the pudding. Dessert absolutely finished us off and I was ready for bed. LOL. I also had two blackcurrant and grape spritzes [$17]. It was good, I was worried it was going to taste like everyone's favorite grape medicine, but thankfully it didn't. I'd probably chose a different cocktail next time. The bill came to $236 after tax and tip, which I would say is totally worth it. PS: I was obsessed with the wallpaper and candles in the bathroom, such a nice touch! read more

The waiter never cracked a smile and was hovering toward the end of the meal, so I felt like we were expected to wrap things up. We ordered a ton: bread and butter, two oysters kilpatrick, scotch egg, fried pumpkin with herb paste, devilled crab on toast, Welsh rarebit, steak & chips, chicken/pig's trotter/leek pie, and finished with the queen of puddings. Everything was great, with the bread & butter, oysters (maybe the best I've ever had?), rarebit, and steak being particular standouts. The only things we'd definitely skip next time would probably be the fried pumpkin (my wife hates herbs) and the pie, which was good but probably worth subbing out for something like the duck. I also wouldn't mind trying more desserts -- I surprisingly loved the pudding, and I wonder if some of the other desserts which wouldn't normally be my thing might actually be up my alley. read more

Six minutes and twenty seconds... Not more, not less... This is apparently the secret behind Chef Szymanski's scotch eggs. Well that and however he seasons the lamb shoulder ‍. I'm not sure what to expect when I visit London, but if it's anything like Lord's I can't wait to visit. There's new dishes that I'm not accustomed to like the rarebit, but the warm beef tongue, the braised tripe, the infamous ox cheek meat pies... impeccable. The space is warm with dark green accents with the cutest dinnerware. The staff were swift but not hovering. And I'm not a dessert person, but the queen of puddings and chocolate custard was absolutely ! read more

Cute typical vibe you except from all new trendy spots these days. I liked the ambience. We sat at the bar for dinner. The bartenders were both very nice and helpful. Ours recommend two dishes from each section for two people. It was def too much food for how rich each dish is. The cocktails are quite large which is nice cause they are a little pricey (tho still under $20 thank god). We ordered the scotch egg (def get this) and the Welsh rarebit (good but not my thing necessarily). We then had the beet and eel dish (tasty but nothing special) which was a nice light bite. Then we had the crab toast which was my favorite appetizer. Our main dishes were taking a bit longer (we honestly didn't notice at all) but the manager or someone brought over the mushroom dish for us complimentary which was very nice of them. That was quite good with the marmite hollandaise. The best dish was definitely the steak frites. Loved the fries and the steak was cooked perfectly. The green peppercorn sauce was delicious. We got the duck pie which was good but nothing to write home about imho. Overall fun meal and everything was good! Would go back for sure. Also we were so full we couldn't order dessert but the apple crumble looked and smelled so good. I would try that if I went back. read more

My new favorite restaurant in NYC. Everything was great here, the food, the dimly lit ambience, the incredibly fast service, I could go on. The menu is relatively small and simply laid out. There's something here for everyone. I got the below with a short review of each: - Scotch egg (4/5): interesting flavor, perfectly cooked egg. Probably a bit too dry on the meat side of things but nevertheless pretty good - Rarebit (5/5): Delicious, cheesy goodness. This was my first time having this dish (basically soft bread covered in cheese and toasted). Make sure to have it with the Worcestershire sauce and cut some lines into the cheese for the sauce to drip into! - Venison tartare (5/5): super balanced flavor with the meat and seasoning. Could've used a little bit more crunch with the fried potato slices but it was great nonetheless - Duck-stuffed cabbage (5/5): the cabbage was great but what made it amazing was the mashed potatoes combined with the sauce - Sticky toffee ice cream (5/5): simple way to end dinner. Each of you who has ever liked a meme about British food being bland or uninteresting: Go to Lord's and maybe your sin will be forgiven. The chef here has put a lot of thought into his dishes and it shows. Every item we ordered hit that perfect spot. You obviously can't go wrong with the curried lamb scotch egg. They had a monkfish special that was so flavorful. The proper English chips and Pig head itemwe ordered was fantastic as well and paired perfectly with a Guiness. Ambience is very pub-like and welcoming. Service was courteous but they didn't attend to our table for a quite a while, and when we wanted to place an order for another dish, they said it'd take too long, and we'd end up going over the stipulated 45 minute limit. That soured our experience but the food was so good, we'll visit again. And again. read more

Made reservations for a party of 2 for 5:30pm. We arrived super early and were lucky enough to find a spot right in front. We watched the door for about 40 minutes and started to stand outside at 5 PM. We were the first ones. But the line did pick up around 5:20pm. The ambience is cozy and the service was fantastic. As soon as we sat down we ordered the lamb scotch egg, two burgers, and two order of chips. The lamb scotch egg was hard to eat. The lamb was so salty that it surpassed the flavor of everything else. The bun of the burger was extremely buttery. It muted the quality of the pretzel bun and stopped any of its ability to balance the richness of the beef, cheese and onion. The burger had quality ingredients, but only offered my pallet, salty and savory flavors with no balancing acidity, which is something you need with such a rich and extremely buttery burger. The onion was extremely overpowering, especially because it had not undergone any caramelization. Considering that this burger only hit two of the five flavor possibilities for my tongue. It really could have used a hint of sweetness and caramelization with the onion that was there. A pickle would also have been an inviting touch of acidity. I felt gross after eating it because of all the greasiness. The chips were super good! They were crispy on the outside and creamy in the middle with a perfect touch of salt. Overall, the quality of the food was good and the service was great but when rating this place based only on the burger, I think it is overhyped due to the exclusivity of it. Sometimes, when I think about restaurants that had truly delicious food, I dream about the dishes at Lord's. We went for a 10pm reservation and despite the late hour, the staff were very gracious. The atmosphere inside is a bit dark, so I wouldn't come here to read a book, but if it's fantastic food you want? Yes, yes and yes. Things we tried: the snap pea martini (cool, intriguing and delicious), the Welsh rarebit, scotch egg and the steak and chips. Everything was 5/5. Next time we have out of town guests and need to illustrate just how good the food is in NYC, we're coming back... Or probably sooner, if we can get a reservation. read more

TL;DR There was glass in my food, but at least they comped the meal. I came here with high expectations since this was Dame's sister restaurant (and Dame was a great experience). I have to commend the vibe and the service - both were top notch. The restaurant makes you feel as if you've stepped into a dimly lit pub somewhere in the UK. I found it quite charming. The service was great - we had a two waiters who were courteous, knowledgeable about the menu, and helped us narrow down some options. However, the food is EXPENSIVE especially for what it is (warning: small portions ahead) WINNERS The best dishes we had were the smoked trout, the chips, and the two desserts (apple trifle and marmalade ice cream). The smoke trout was in a delicious sauce and was smoked lightly. The chips were cooked immaculately (a real rival to nearby pomme frites!) though I wish the sauce had a bit more flavor. The marmalade ice cream was great and the bit of marmalade on top really added a lot to the dish. The apple trifle was great till we got to the bottom of it and there was a piece of glass. We immediately flagged our waiter and they were kind enough to comp the meal but we left immediately afterwards (hence the 1-star review) LOSERS Every other dish was lackluster. The mushrooms and egg yolk was nothing to write home about. The welsh rarebit was actually disgusting. Even after we asked our waiter about it, I'm not sure why he recommended it - it was truly awful. Maybe I'm just not used to the flavor combination, but I didn't even get the taste of cheddar cheese from the dish. Overall, even without the glass in my food, I was a bit disappointed. Again, the service and decor at the restaurant were top notch, but the food just didn't live up to the hype and definitely not up to it's price tag. Food is good, but prices were a bit high given the portion size. If possible, I think increasing the portion size may be the better option. For 3 people, we ordered the Scotch egg, pig's head with blood sausage, 2 meat pies and a duck with cabbage entree, a calvados trifle and the stout sponge with chocolate custard. The food quantity was just barely enough to fill all 3 of us, and that is considering that the desserts were a fairly large serving. I would have preferred larger entrees as I generally like dessert to be the last note to a meal, if I have one at all. The meat pie is $38 and I was still pretty hungry after this main course (and the appetizers - we shared the pig's head and blood sausage as though it was an appetizer) Food was delicious, the pig's trotter was very tender. It was my first time with pig's trotter, pig's head, and blood sausage. I wish the chocolate custard was more like a custard and less like a sauce. I also wish there were outdoor seating if possible, since covid is still a concern, as well as getting any kind of illness. We were rushed through the meal with a server who kept trying to pluck our menus away so we couldn't order more drinks. Every course came out cold, two of which came out with barely any staggering between. Server was inattentive, didn't talk to us, rushed us. Ordered cake + custard, custard came out melted, told server, hey, this shouldn't be melted, she insisted it should be. Uh, no. Begrudgingly ate it so we could pay our bill. Was asked "hey do you have a complaint about the melted custard?" at the end of the meal. Was not comped. Left. Chips were pretty good, so was the lukewarm duck pie. Had a good dinner at Lord's, and appreciate the creativity on the menu, but some parts don't live up to the hype. We started with the bread & butter, oysters kilpatrick, fried pumpkin, and devilled crab on toast. The oysters were good and fried pumpkin is something I've never seen before, but the crab was room temperature. For our mains we had the sirloin steak & chips with green peppercorns and the duck. The duck was well cooked but was also served room temperature as if it had been sitting out for awhile. The steak was a good, solid steak. We got an 8pm reservation. Day of, we got a text from the restaurant telling us we'll only have 1 hour and 45 minutes to dine, because they have another reservation coming in for our table at 10pm. I completely understand time limits and turning tables, but I've never seen a restaurant go to such extreme lengths to make it clear. I've seen restaurants list it on the reservation page, but have never gotten a separate text about it. When we arrived at the restaurant, our table was not ready until 8:15pm, which I would not normally have noticed, except that they had already made such a big deal about timeliness. It left me wondering, do we still only have until 9:45pm, or can we take an extra 15 minutes? Again, I was only nit picking because they were. In any case, by the time 10pm rolled around, there were plenty of empty tables and they were not turning tables, so I don't understand why they even needed to make a big deal about our reservation length. If they want to turn tables, they can just move things along during service, they don't need to make a big deal in advance, especially when it turns out to be unwarranted. read more

What a gem!! This place has super authentic British food for a decent price. It has some things on the menu that aren't common here but everything was soo delicious. Service was great, they gave good suggestions and the chef even came out to give us the food. The ambiance was chill yet slightly upscale. In short, the restaurant didn't live up to the hype. The food was overpriced. Many of the dishes were too salty. Scotched egg tasted very gaming. Pig head terrine was too bland while the mustard on the side was overpowering. Sunchokes tasted okay but was very oily. Braised tripe and the queen of puddings were the only highlights of the night. Grilled mushroom kebab was decent but definitely not worth its price. Duck was a big disappointment: the whole dish was barely warm when served; duck breast skin wasn't crispy; fat wasn't rendered well. Pie of the day was very mediocre: pastry wasn't great, and chicken and pig's trotter didn't have much flavor. Chips were really salty. For drinks, we got fig leaf martini, barlett pear manhattan, and amaro soda and didn't like any of the three. A waiter broke a large glass container on the ground right in front of our table, spreading shattered glass all over our feet, and we had to ask for people to come to clean it up. After that, no one even came to apologize. Definitely won't visit again. read more

Let me tell you... one of our new favorite burgers (the spot which used to be taken by Au Cheval). The ambiance is great and the food was all outstanding, but Caitlin made the difference! Her knowledge of the menu was unmatched and even though it was my friend and I's first time there, she made us feel like regulars. I don't doubt the rest of the servers and staff are exceptional since everyone we spoke with was super friendly and helpful, but Caitlin is a star! A couple food pics for additional context. Nice ambiance in this British pub, a bit on the loud side for the older folks. The bar is quite comfy, which is where we had a reservation. I had a very stiff Hemingway Daquiri which was quite good and my bf had one of the tasty non-alcoholic drinks. The food isn't exactly up my alley but I was keen to try it out. We shared a delicious bread & butter basket, the escarole caesar salad, the welsh rarebit toast, duck pie, and chips. The chips were outstanding. Perfectly seasoned and crispy. I could have eaten a thousand of them. My bf enjoyed the duck pie. It tasted like burger to me, not a bad thing! Salad was really dressed, which is the way I like it. A welcome addition to a neighborhood in need of a good upmarket eatery. Signature cocktails are excellent - well balanced, strong, not too sweet, and mostly on a bitter side. Most appetizers are good for sharing. Crispy pig head terrine is good and meaty, but a little too reminiscent of a Spanish croquette due to its breaded fried exterior. Fried eggs, ramps and black pudding is fantastic and full of umami, sunny side up eggs are the the brightest orange you've ever seen, black pudding is savory and creamy and ramps add a nice a layer of flavor and crunch. Venison tartar is also great with a nice mustardy tang. The staff is super nice, a maitre 'd went out of his way to sit us despite not having a reservation on a busy Friday night. read more

I went here after reading its review in The NY Times. We had a great dinner here that defied our expectations. The scotch eggs with curry were a great deviation from the traditional scotch egg and delicious! We loved the grilled oysters and our favorite was the perfect flavor combination of the cabbage stuffed with duck and creamy Puréed potatoes and port wine reduction. The dessert was the impressive finale of the Guinness cake with chocolate custard and the Queen of puddings. We loved it all and we enjoyed all of the waitstaff which made our dinner even better. Lord's aspires for an upscale dining establishment. In certain ways (ambiance, cleanliness) it hits the mark, however given the price point, unfortunately does not fully deliver. Manu is fairly limited, there is no vegetarian entree option, which is odd. Drinks menu does not include ingredients for non-alcoholic options which makes it impossible to make a decision re whether offering is actually worth $12-15. We tried rarebit (tasty but portion was 2 pieces, each being 1/2 standard bread slice). Steak was the highlight- cooked as requested and accompanied by a nice sauce. Cod was overcooked but set on top of a very nice beans with sauce. Fries were twice cooked but definitely overpriced. One issue that did come up and it's definitely a no-no for a good restaurant. When placing the order we told the waitress that one person in the party cannot consume raw/uncooked products. However shared chips arrived with a side of aoli (which when checked did contain raw eggs). Overall, has potential but needs some improvement in terms of delivery and menu. read more
