Los Arroyos is an upscale Mexican restaurant in Carmel. The dining room is lovely inside with a mix of tables and booths. Fresh flowers and cloth napkins are a welcome touch. Easter decor was out. Bar and patio seating are available as well. Alvaro was friendly and attentive. Complementary chips and salsa and beverages came out quickly. The salsas are delicious (especially the dark salsa) and the chips were fresh. The lunch menu offers about a dozen options for $13 a plate. The food was artistically plated. I had the Mole Enchiladas which came with refried beans and rice. The mole sauce was rich and perfectly spicy for me (a touch of heat). The enchilada was really tasty with tender chicken. The beans were fresh made. Hubs had the lunch portion beef Burrito Majado. The steak was delicious and the quac was super fresh. The restrooms are upscale and clean. Parking is always a nightmare in their shared, cramped lot. read more

Continue to love the happy hour special, in particular the Tostadita options of fish or shrimp that come in orders of 2 for $6. They pack a lot of flavor and decent portions for that small price. Mini Nachos are a decent sized offering and flavor for $6 also, although we feel we get better value at Condado's for their Skywalker nachos on Thursdays at $7. read more

This is one of the classiest and most authentic Mexican restaurants in town. The owner/head chef moved to the US from Mexico and opened his first restaurant in California. Came here to celebrate a family member's birthday and we were extremely satisfied! The minute I walked in I couldn't help but take in the warm, modern, and comfortable atmosphere. We were quickly greeted by the host and taken to our seats. We quickly scanned over the menu and I decided to order the Ribeye Tacos. I also ordered a Tamarindo Margarita. Both were perfection. The decor is beautiful, inside and out on the patio or in the bar area. Monday-Friday 11 to 3 they have a special lunch menu with about a dozen options, all priced at $13. My husband and I stopped in for a Monday night dinner out and were so pleased! First of all, our server Gabby was so sweet and second, the food was delicious. I ordered the "Al Pastor Tacos" and my husband ordered the "fajita burrito". Both portions were large and we left very full! The chips and salsa that come out before your meal are so thin and crispy, no complaints! I also have a gluten allergy and it can be hard to find Mexican food that I can for sure eat and feel confident eating, but here they fry their chips in a separate fryer and our server double checked to make sure my dish was for sure gluten free! I had dinner here with a group of friends on a Friday night, and it was good we made a reservation as the place is fairly small and we were a larger group, but it would probably be safe to arrive without a reservation for a party of 2. Menus are via QR codes as the default, but they do have printed menus as well; mine had dried food on the pages, so maybe better to use the QR code version... The complimentary chips and salsas were good; the mild is very mild, and the medium had a little heat, but not at all hot. I had the blood orange margarita which was good and the tajin rim which is referred to as "spicy salt" here went well with it. Heads up that they have a $300 margarita on the menu...wonder if anyone has ever ordered that! Hopefully not accidentally.... I had the tacos del mar, one fish (halibut) and one shrimp. Both were fine, but the shrimp was tastier. The halibut didn't have a ton of flavor; it is a tricky fish to not overcook which left me wondering why they don't just go with tilapia which is more economical and more forgiving. The beans and rice were actually quite good. Service was good, but they definitely seemed short staffed. There were no water refills and it took a bit for our order to be taken. Atmosphere is modern and casual. It was quiet enough that we could easily converse. Parking is easy in the shared shopping center parking lot. read more

They have three options to choose from and the lunch special comes with two. I chose the monterrey norteno, a grilled filet mignon taco with grilled onions, brown beans, avocado spread, and queso fresco. My second choice was the Ensenada baja, a beer battered halibut taco topped with purple cabbage, mango salsa, and sour cream aioli. They were a nice size and had good flavor. Here for a friends birthday and this was our first time here. Service was very good considering one server was handling about 30 people. Husband got arroz con pollo and I got tacos del Mar. I really really dislike corn tortillas so I just ate the filling. The fish was over cooked and a bit on the chewy side. The black beans were great. Husband said the arroz con pollo was good but lacked enough queso. We both ordered Agua de jamaica ( hibiscus tea). We both had two small glasses and then we were told they were out. And we were told it would take quite a while to make more. Jamaica typically comes three different ways. 1 dried hibiscus flowers which you boil strain and add sugar, a liquid concentrate that you just add water to or a powder form you add water to. Only one that takes the most time is the first. So that was disappointing. Based on this visit I don't think we have reasons to return. read more

Friends of ours convinced us to give this place another try. We have been there twice now this year since giving them a two star review several years ago. I've been coming to Los Arroyos since it opened. When I first came, the prices were higher than I expected for Mexican restaurant. I can very safely safe, this is more expensive because it isn't your run of the mill Mexican food. They have incredible food, literally almost every dish I've had (and I've had most) is so good, the service is always great, the environment is family friendly but also great for dates AND, the margaritas are the BEST by far. Specially the skinny margaritas are so fresh, with great tartness and they use high quality tequila. Whether by myself, with my wife or with my family, Los Arroyos is one of our go-to restaurants; top 3 in Carmel. AND... now they have breakfast on the weekends! I've been dying for a great Mexican breakfast and it's finally here. I haven't had it yet but I'm sure it will not disappoint. So glad to have Los Arroyos right here in Carmel. Stopped for late lunch and ordered the steak burrito and rice. It was excellent! It was stuffed with slow cooked beef, from scratch black beans, and from scratch refried beans. The rice was superb, with a li.e undertone, with other spices. Service was a little slow. We arrived at 1:10pm and were seated quickly, Carlos was friendly and kept our drinks filled. The food took 35 minutes to arrive though. We were here on pleasure, so it didn't matter; but if you were on a business lunch, that is too long to wait. All in all a gre a t experience! The restaurant is very clean & service was good. We were sat on the enclosed patio, which was heated and cozy. Chips & salsas were great - the green one especially! Unfortunately, the food was just very bland. I got "Tony's Alambres with Shrimp" and it tasted like there were no seasonings used at all. My husband got the ribeye tacos, which had an awesome sauce drizzled over them (on the outside), but they were bland inside with large chunks of fat. Rice was pretty good. We were seated promptly but it took a while for someone to help us. In fact, the table across from us was dirty when we were seated. That table got bused, a party of two were seated there, and the server took their food order all before someone appeared at our table with so much as water or chips and salsa, much less to ask our food order. We ordered the lunch fajitas and they were very good. The portion size was generous and the price was competitive. We ordered them without peppers and the order came to the table accurate. The food was hot. We were served complementary chips and two types of salsa. Neither salsa had much "kick" or taste in our opinion. But, we like spicy food so you may enjoy the salsa. We had a very nice lunch on the patio. We will return to the restaurant and give them another try. It probably won't overtake our "regular" Mexican food place but it will be a good variation. read more

They were all so unique. We split the Molcajete and even had leftovers. It was so delicious and unique with so many incredible flavors. We did order extra tortillas, which came with a small charge. While still being relatively new to Indiana from the Washington DC area. I like to explore and the find hidden gems of Indiana and this one of them. They have indoor and outdoor seating. We went on a Friday evening and requested outdoor seating and they were able to accommodate quickly which was great. The food was delicious but bring your appetite for the burrito . The enchiladas were perfect portions. We had the skinny margaritas which were also so good kudos to the bartender. If I had one complaint, I reserved some space in stomach for the Apple Taco but they were all out of everything except for one thing on the dessert menu. The downtown location is small but nice! Service was fast. The salsa is okay. The queso is so good! I think there's green chilies in it!? It's a perfect level of spicy! My husband took me here for a date night and we cannot wait to return!! We were seated right at our reservation time and had water at the table shortly after sitting down. Our only complaint throughout the night was the delay in service; we waited a long time for drinks, our water glasses were empty and we needed more chips with the queso we ordered. The staff did let us know that there was a large private party and that is what was causing the delay in service. Aside from the slower than expected service, the food was fantastic!! The salsas were fresh and flavorful and we ordered a small queso as well, the queso was so good - we scraped the bowl clean! My husband ordered the Rib Eye Fajitas and said they were delicious, the meat was cooked exactly as he requested and was seasoned perfectly. My Chicken Anaheim was out of this world! I highly recommend it! The chicken was tender and the sauce was creamy and so good. I also enjoyed the corn tortillas it came with and found myself eating all of them! This location is beautiful on the inside and has a nice patio area outside as well to eat. The service was amazing and the server made sure that my drink glass was never empty. The salsas that were provided on the table were so good, I had to ask for some to go! I got the chimichanga and it was huge! I had to cut it half so I can take the rest home for a lunch for work tomorrow and everyone in the lunchroom was jealous of the smell when I heated it up! Will be back!! read more

I'd long wanted to check out Carmel's Los Arroyos, the Indiana location of a small chain that started in Santa Barbara, California in 1999 and now includes spots in California, Nevada, and Indiana. I decided to have lunch with a friend who is heading out to Seattle for a job. We knew that we'd likely want to chat for a while and we had a strong preference for a patio since my friend is somewhat vulnerable in terms of health and still being careful due to the pandemic. We called and made a reservation for 1pm on the patio. We arrived shortly before 1pm and the weirdness began. While the host acknowledged the reservation, he made a point of letting us know that Los Arroyos doesn't actually reserve the patio and that it's "first come first serve." Technically, I don't have an issue with this other than the fact we weren't told this on the phone and it may have altered where we decided to have lunch. However, since the patio actually was available it wasn't a huge deal. Except for the fact that he then proceeded to tell us the exact same thing two other times. At that point, it becomes insulting and condescending. I wanted to say "We heard you the first time and I'm sorry that your employees are obviously not aware of your policy." I resisted. We were escorted to a table almost by the patio door - not exactly ideal, but I figured out why. The patio is NOT ADA compliant. This is a layout issue (not architectural or structural). It's simply poor planning. Our server, whose name I never got, greeted us in a timely manner and got us glasses of water. Los Arroyos is still using QR codes for the menus (though they pulled out real menus for dessert. Weird.). The server pointed us to the lunch menu. My friend ordered. I'd previously scouted the menu, but realized the lunch menu didn't have it. So, I ordered something similar...the MIlanesa de Pollo. I was promptly told it wasn't available, but it wasn't explained why. I looked at the menu again and ordered a chicken quesadilla. When she came back, the server told me that she'd checked and the chef could make what I'd wanted originally and it would be $17 (higher than the menu price). I was really getting tired of this place. When I came home, I looked up the menus for fine print and learned the lunch menu is M-F. This was never said and it doesn't explain why my friend could order off it but I couldn't. This was really poor communication. The food itself was a definite solid serving size. It was good but not great. From here on out, things were decent. Our server was attentive, though a touch slow. The table right beside us left fairly quickly (I wonder if it was my friend's "Pro-Choice" with a coat hanger t-shirt?). We were able to relax and enjoy the meal. I also give kudos that they allowed us to linger much longer than the usual meal. They weren't full, but that's still a plus. Overall, I'm much closer to a 2-star than a 4-star here. With two major service issues and a major accessibility issue, I really had nothing here that makes me want to go back. The food was fine, though it is a touch pricey and the service doesn't match it. I lean toward a 2-star, but because they let us linger without complaining I'm going to go ahead and say 3-stars. Ultimately, however, this was a one and done deal. I won't be back. read more

Hostess gets to us and says it will be a few minutes. Frustrating but ok. Couple walks in behind us. Hostess walks around me to greet the other couple and seats them immediately without a reservation. I complain and nobody seems to understand why I'm mad.
