Dropped in before they closed up and was not disappointed especially being on our way back to Cali. To start the rajas en queso were excellent and a great appetizer. The enchiladas verdes were savory and the salsas were on point for every pallet. If in need of Mexican food that's not Tex Mexi this was it. Ask the waiter to hook up the margarita with agave versus the mix you won't be sorry! The service especially being so close to the place closing was excellent and done with a smile. My favorite Mexican restaurant in Colorado. Food is excellent atmosphere is potentially festive, service is friendly. It's not fancy but it's always a positive when 3 of 4 tables are Spanish speaking families and couples. The quality of the Chile Rellenos is my starting point for food quality. The ones served here were addictive enough that I forced myself to try another entree on my fourth visit. Another key to authenticity is having nopales on the menu so, I tried the alambre con carne y nopales. Topped with quest and served with tortillas was a ton of food. I was tempted to go for more except that they will serve all the chips you care to eat and all 4 or 5 the salsas are addictive as hell. Cadillac Margarita is another test and the well stocked bar checked that box nicely. read more

A bomb hole in the wall Mexican spot. Prices have gone up vs the menus online and on yelp. You have to scan a QR code to see the menu. If you come here and don't get a burrito, you're doing something wrong. You have the option to get the burritos smothered in a green Chile sauce (this was spicier than I anticipated) but soooo tasty. The Al pastor is on point! Beef fajita burrito had a nice charred taste with sautéed onions and bell pepper (light on the veggies) and the beef is chopped up. Get a marg or 2 here - a little on the sweeter side but tasty. There was a weird moment where someone was serenading entire restaurant (loudly) and then walked around tables asking for tips? The ambiance is nice and clean. It's been remodeled recently. When we we're seated the waitress brought us chips and 5 different salsas. Caution they were spicy, but delicious. My girlfriend and I came here two weeks ago when we first moved to the area. When the lady wants tacos, you find her tacos! Los Carboncitos has a few locations in Denver and this one happens to be very close to our place. On a Saturday night, it's housed in a dark parking lot next to a night club with a security officer. You've been warned. As we walked in, we noticed the main dining room was very crowded. A lot of people were watching soccer. We were a few of the only white people here, and that comforted us big time. Tacos are the name of the game and these lil' guys are packed with solid flavors. I went with Carnitas, Al Pastor, Pollo and Camaron. The pork tacos were amazing and so was the shrimp. The chicken was the least memorable since the meat was diced up into fine pieces. Also, they bring you a mountain of chips and salsa complete with lime wedges and hot sauces. The salsa had a bite to it that I very much enjoyed. Last but not least, the whole meal cost us $22 with tip. Now that's a deal if I've ever seen one! read more

Omg! I think I may have found my fave burrito! Guess what? They ask you when they take your order if you want it smothered or dry? Because #Ca girl here. What? *during coronavirus* Wow call me impressed! Don't judge this taqueria based on the seedy neighborhood. We did take out since there was only indoor dining available. We had 4 tacos (lengua, chorizo, bistek, camaron), 1 smothered burrito (al pastor), and chips and salsa. Total was $22. Tacos were smaller than expected - one person can easily eat 4-6 on their own. All were fantastic and we hurriedly wolfed them down. The smothered burrito was the star - the sauciness with the rice and meat, delicious!! Paired with the salsa and chips as nachos, we were in heaven. We were given an additional 3 salsas - two very spicy reds and one mild green. I can't really take spicy, so I enjoyed the mild green in addition to the salsa that came with the chips. read more

It was taco Tuesday, and we needed authentic fuel after a day of moving furniture! They were busy with several takeout orders but had ours prepared within 15 minutes. The quesadilla was fine but more bean based rather than cheese based. Huge. Not very exciting but good. The real winner for me were these tlacoyos. What are they might you ask? I still have no clue to be honest, but what I do know is that if you like nopales (cactus) this is FANTASTIC. It's grilled perfectly with a great char that only enhanced the flavor without leaving it mushy or rubbery. The lime and cheese complimented it perfectly. I love this place! They're always really consistent in quality and usually pretty quick with getting your order done. I've only ever ordered to go so I cant say anything as far as the ambiance goes. But it seems to be a family run business and they're always really nice. They have a huge menu so I have yet to try everything but the tacos are bomb and decently priced if you do taco Tuesday. They have lots of sauces for the tacos too and if you sit in im pretty sure you get complimentary chips and salsa! read more

Agua Frescas are legit here, and I lived in Albuquerque for a year. I usually get the burrito smothered, and or tacos. I keep looking at some of the other specialities they all look amazing. I've had this place bookmarked since I moved to Denver and finally had a chance to check this 'gem' out with my family who was visiting out of state. We ordered the Carboncitos (combination) Fajitias to share, and 4 tacos (Al Pastor, Steak, Chicken, and Lengua). I was SO confident that the tacos would be amazing, if not pretty decent considering all the 4-5 star reviews Boy was I mistaken!! 1. The corn tortillas were hard on the side as if the tacos were sitting out for quite some time 2. Everything was BLAND BLAND BLAND. No salt or pepper at all!! 3. Steaks on the fajitas were dry and overcooked when I asked for medium rare 4. Chicken was of course dry as f**** All the meats on the tacos were dry minus the lengua. Did they run out of salt and pepper in the back?? The hot sauces were decent but those are condiments. They're supposed to enhance the tacos, not be the flavor! My family who doesn't like salty foods even commented on how bland the food was, and how they could not even taste a pinch of salt! Service was impeccably slow. Chips were cold. This is a 1 star establishment, and I can't fathom how this place received 4.5 yelp stars. I started to question if i was in the right place! We used to like this place, but realized how expensive things were, especially the tacos on "Taco Tuesday." Big price, small tacos. Not only that, they recently started slamming: bringing us things we didn't order, and after we called it out, they insisted that it was a mistake and that we wouldn't be charged for it. This restaurant popped up as a Yelp recommendation and I was intrigued by the menu. Like other reviewers, I too thought a huarache was a sandal but it turns out to also be an incredible dish typically made in the Mexico City area as I educated myself about. It is a long football shaped corn masa topped with refried beans and then any combination one can think of. I opted for the cactus (Nopal) version while my husband went with the Milano version which was several varieties of meat. Before the main though, we were served delicious chips and salsa along with four little bowls of fire and fury hot salsas. The four little dishes were meant for the mains but we tried them with chips too. I drizzled the two green salsas over the cactus, cheese, refried bean and masa happiness and although my mouth felt the heat, the combination was excellent. Ordered an asada burrito "smothered." The meat here, and every Mexican restaurant I've been to in Denver has served me "asada" with meat so thin, like shaved meat you'd use on a cheesesteak.
