Well worth the wait! My husband and I were so excited for this place to open! This was our first chance to go since then and it was everything we'd hoped. The chips and salsa are great! The salsa isn't overly spicy, but has a bit of a kick for those of you that like heat. Chips are crispy. We were very happy with both. For meals, we actually both tried the carne asada cooked medium and it did not disappoint! The steaks were flavorful and tender. It came on a bed of grilled onion and peppers as well as roasted tomato. It was so delicious! It also came with a side of rice and beans, which were decent as well. Portion sizes were generous and we walked away spending only $45 for two carne asada plates, lemonade, and a glass of wine. Definitely a lot of bang for your buck! As for COVID precautions, the wait staff all wore masks and everything was very clean. There was plenty of outdoor seating and social distancing indoors. We love this restaurant's location downtown. I need to update my review, because although I have been back since my first visit I have not updated my review. We asked friends to meet us here last week and I was surprised when I saw the Yelp score was not that high, because every time we have been it has been a great experience. As a matter of fact, friends we have taken here continue to go back. I really have enjoyed their tequila drink selection. I love the Reposado Old Fashioned and the Jalapeño Basil Margarita. My husband is happy they also have Maker's Mark. The chips are endless and their salsa is so much better than most Mexican restaurants, since it is not at all runny, and it is almost creamy. This time we ordered the guacamole that they make at your table. It is nice that you can specify the spiciness and some of the ingredients. The Spinach Enchiladas are delicious. My husband even tried and we left half. We asked for recommendations and went with the Mexican Mix and Floutas. I'll add photos. Been wanting to stop by and eat at Los Compadres. Ate there on celebrating Roanoke. I had the Burrito with shredded chicken ,rice and beans. It taste good only complain tortilla tasted like they took it out out a store pack, it was hard to cut..wish they would've steamed it first. Also had a taco on the side..disappointed..shell was hard, tasted like they also took it out of a store bought pack. My wife had the poblano chicken with a white sauce, onions and mushrooms. It was pretty good some of the chicken was dry, needed more white sauce. We both had a margarita, it tasted good, but as a little pricy at $10.00 ea for a well drink. We tried the margaritas on the rocks and also had one of the jalapeño basil margaritas. These were delicious and strong which we loved. This restaurant was very good! Loved the food that came out super hot and the table side guacamole that we ordered! Only complaint would be service was a little lacking. We rarely got checked on and even more rarely got refills. It didn't ruin the night by any means but it did noticeably contribute to the experience. Hostesses were very rude. They told us one wait time on the phone and literally 30 seconds after when my wife checked in they gave her another time. Food was not up to Mexican food standards and not worth the hour wait. I had the barbacoa tacos which were cold, and were very fatty when the menu says lean meat. Wife had fajita nachos, very basic, daughter had street tacos, which were also cold, on fake flour tortillas, and my other daughter had tacos al carbon with the fake flour tortillas. To add to the disappointment, the skillet apple pie was cold. Guava top-shelf margarita and brisket queso was the best thing we had. Not recommended for real Mexican food, better recommendation would be Rosas Cafe. Being Mexican myself, I could have cooked a better dinner and made real homemade tortillas from scratch. I did not eat but entertained the bar area for one drink. What I noticed was workers in the kitchen prep area eating food. This was shocking... prep people eating food! And the manager was in the same area viewing the same. The place was 1/3 filled with occupies ordering food from tables. Noted that pedestrians coming in off the street reviewing the Limited liquor selections in the bar and turned around and left the restaurants. Also observed delivery of a meal request from a customer that was incorrect. The manager saw the order and never interfaced with the customer to have a discussion nor did the waiter. First time trying this place and we left very underwhelmed. We started off with a strawberry margarita and espresso martini, their espresso machine was down so our waiter (who was amazing) suggested something else, that drink was also amazing!! We ordered a bowl of queso and complained that something was off about it - it tasted and smelled moldy. Our waiter thought it was maybe the tajin on top and got us a new queso, it tasted the same minus a little salt. My husband ordered a sample dinner and I was craving cheese enchiladas and took a gambled on them. The chicken enchiladas with verde/sour cream dressing were the best we've ever had but the cheese enchiladas, again just tasted moldy and stale. If we go back, we will avoid anything with cheese in or on it for this reason. This place came highly rated to us so we were a bit let down by this. We have been wanting to try Los Campadres for quite some time, just could never seem to make it there. LOL, so we ate there twice in one week! Let's start with the margaritas. REALLY good. Not those sickeningly sweet, neon green "margaritas" that are unfortunately served at a lot of places. Really good, fresh and.... pretty strong. Chips and salsa, very tasty. The chips are nice and thin and well salted. I ate most without even dipping in the salsa! I had the chicken mole enchiladas. Very good. The mole was really good and the chicken tender. Funny thing, the beans in my opinion, were the star of the plate. HANDS DOWN best refried beans I've had in a very long time. I feel quite sure they use bacon and/or lard. Yummy. Service was quick and attentive. We will definitely be visiting again. read more

WAKE UP!! The food here is absolutely amazing...however, thats not what my family I talked about when we left your restaurant tonight. Your service is appalling. This is a management issue. What exactly are your steps of service? How many minutes to do a table greet? Do you go over specials or just point to a QR code and say 'Know what you want?'? How many minutes to get apps on the table? How many minutes until entrees on the table? Do your servers know to pre-bus so we dont have to sit in a stack of dishes? Do your servers know that they should try to refill drinks and not just stare at empty ones? Do your servers know that when people are done eating you drop the check off? Why do your servers all hang out at the soda fountain and chit chat? Do you teach your servers to write things down so they dont screw up (every meal I have had has been screwed up here. 3 for 3)? These are such simple things. So frustrating. It would drastically increase the amount of revenue you make. When people are forced to camp at the table because the service sucks you lose money. Considering this place doesnt have a ton of tables compared to some of the other larger restaurants in the area my guess is you cant afford to ignore your customers as much as your servers do. Who the heck is managing this place? Sure looks to be a couple of old dudes who are entirely clueless on how to run a restaurant. If you are the owner and you are reading this...FIRE THEM! If you are THEM then HIRE PEOPLE WHO KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING!! Your restaurant will never make it with service this terrible. It is a reality. I want to see the local spots stay open, especially when your food is so good, but your team better address this problem. read more
