10/5 stars! All the poor reviews are due to the poor ambiance and service. If you're looking for fancy Mexican with good interior design, go to Campo. It's 5 miles away. The service was a little sparing, but only because there were 2 waiters for the whole restaurant. These guys worked the butt off and I could always flag them down if I needed. Now for the food: best Mexican food ever! The free chips and salsa were the best! The chips were hot and thick and homemade. The salsa had some mole in it which addd to the richness of the dip. The chicken burrito was packed with white chicken breast that was shredded and perfectly seasoned. The steak tacos were served with thick homemade corn tortillas and the best guac I have ever had. I hadn't been to Los Cuates in years and it was just as I had remembered it (excellent)! The chips and salsa is different as it is smoky, sweet, and spicy, so if you are looking for a traditional NM salsa, this is not for you! I could have eaten more but I knew our entrees were gonna be big so I declined more. I ordered the stuffed sopaipilla with ground beef and beans with both red and green chile (Xmas style). It also came with refried beans and spanish rice. I practically licked my plate clean! BFF ordered the chile rellenos and does not typically like very spicy foods so he asked for the mildest chile (server stated red) & he said it was spicy (but devoured it all)! All meals come with one sopaipilla per person. Our server was so nice and friendly and came to check up on us. Another bonus is this location is in the AAdvantage dining program so extra miles for us! This by far was the best NM meal we had while we were here for the week. Well... used to be a good spot. Now you can't get breakfast, the waitstaff is ill trained and pretty uncaring about the concept of service (same questions asked multiple times, forgot the appetizer) and apparently decides some tables just don't get sopapillas or any kind of courtesy while they have plenty of time for the table directly next to you. Hope the server enjoyed the 5$ tip. We won't be back. read more

Been coming here for many years, although i will admit their old diner location across the street was a little better, this one has stood the test of time not only does it have a small cute cantina, but there is a room with chair seating only and a room with table chairs and booths, on the rvening we were there. The 4 of us loved our food. The restaurant was super busy on this Saturday night so food and drink service was slow. Our waiter was friendly and efficient and he apologized for the slow service. When the food finally came out, it was terrific and our orders were huge. I ate maybe half my Indian taco and took the rest home. Even my husband had leftovers. The HALF order of nachos was enormous and we took a lot of that home. And we all got sopapillas !! read more

When I lived in Albuquerque, we came to Los Cuates often, so I was excited to have my last dinner in town at Los Cuates. This place is huge. The decor is nicer, definitely with a Mexican flair, but dated with carpet in the dining rooms. I really dislike carpet in restaurants. There is a nice painted fireplace in the corner of one dining room, and a cute cantina. Our server came quickly, and brought salsa and chips. She had to be replaced because she did not yet have her card to serve alcohol yet and we were ordering margaritas. We put in our order for drinks and food at the same time, and, sadly the drinks took forever. We got our food before the cocktails. I did not like the salsa AT ALL. It wasn't the salsa we are used to with tomatoes and onions and cilantro. It was like a thick, dark red (almost black) smoothie consistency that was kind of sweet. It was not for me. I ordered the carne adovada, which I normally love. It wasnt the wonderfully tender melt-in-your-mouth chunks of pork I am used to; instead it was more like a dry, stringy pork roast in red Chile. It wasn't bad, it was okay. Definitely not great. I ordered the potatoes instead of rice (kudos to them for allowing the substitution), but others said the rice was good. We got some sopapillas, and they were okay. All in all, it was okay. Not bad, not great. It's definitely gone downhill a bit as far as food goes. Can't see myself going back unless someone else really wants to go. read more

I just got into town this afternoon and was starving after working a little bit too. My coworker Johnny used to live in Albuquerque and recommended Los Cuates to me. Boy did he hit a home run! I ordered the chicken enchiladas with rice and beans. When my server Ian brought it to me he also brought a puffed pastry thing called sopapillas. He said to drizzle honey on it and eat it after my meal. Wow! Not only was my enchiladas delicious but the sopapillas was delicious too! Chips and salsa are legitimate. Definitely a good restaurant to have some authentic Mexican food. read more

Went with a group of 4. We had a nice booth. Service was fairly quick but she did forget to bring a couple of things, like one set of silverware and a drink. So one of our group had to sit there for a bit while his food sat in front of him, with no silverware. we all enjoyed our food. service was not terrible, beautiful on the inside was very excited to try especially after all the reviews, but was very disappointed, asked for queso on enchiladas which has never been an issue at any mexican restaurant i've been to, waitress failed to say it was an up charge of $6.50 on top of the plate price of cheese enchiladas which was i believe $16-17. Ground beef for nachos had no flavor, but the half order could easily feed 2 people! The chipotle "salsa" was very spicy and was more of a chipotle sauce. What a great spot! Really loved the food, and the casual atmosphere felt like a down home restaurant you'd find in a smaller town. Had the enchiladas and a taco salad. I really enjoyed my lunch dining experience. It was my first time here and loved the authentic atmosphere. I was getting my car serviced across the street and noticed the restaurant. The walking distance is less than 5 minutes and the hostess were attentive. I was impressed by the service and our server- was nice and outgoing. I forgot her name but she had good customer service! In the mood for an Indian Taco. Check Yelp, they're harder to find than I thought. Quite a few were closed today (Monday). The rest were tacos or Indian cuisine. (Hint: if Indian Tacos are on the menu add it on Yelp). We found Los Cuates. We are close to this location so here we are. Seated quickly and chip & salsa aren't far behind. Hmm salsa tastes different, still smokey but with some heat - nice. Indian taco ordered - nice flavor & hit the spot. Plus the Taco Plate - flavor was good and what we have come to expect. We went to the Coors ByPass restaurant yesterday evening for dinner. I can't say enough good things about our waitress, Monica. So friendly, so attentive, just a pleasant person to engage with. We made sure to tell her that. Valuable employee to say the least! The food was delicious. It was actually our 2nd visit in a couple months and we ordered the same thing, Steak Tacos. They were as good as we remembered them the 1st time we ordered them. Gotta love consistency! They don't skimp on the meat which is nice. It's also very moist. It's how you want your steak to be even if it's diced for tacos. Happy to say both times we've been there it did not disappoint. I had picked up some friends and we originally wanted to go to the Golden pride, but found out it was closed. So it worked out because we ended up here. This location had plenty of parking and looked pretty large. I didn't see anything other than the entrance in the bar area which is where we sat, but it looked very so much of the West side location. We were greeted by our waiter. Instantly he was very attentive, and good at what he does, because he was the only waiter in the entire area. To start off I ordered a mimosa and was given the options of orange or peach, I picked the latter. I kind of regretted it, because a margarita was only $1 more. But, it didn't matter because I ended up drinking a margarita anyway, because my friend ordered the strawberry kiwi margarita but failed to tell him she wanted a sugar rim and for it to be frozen so she just gave it to me and it was delicious tbh. From my entrée typically get the same thing which is the taco platter comes with three tacos, rice and beans as always it was delicious. My friend got the grande breakfast burrito and ask for green chili on top. It was huge. She basically shared it with her boyfriend and they were both full. I guess my only complaint was, we didn't immediately get the sopapillas we had to ask for them and didn't get them until we were done eating. But not a big deal, tey were still delicious and I did not ruin our dining experience at all. Right before they came, I did order another drink, which was the cucumber jalapeño margarita and it was definitely made fresh by the bartender as I saw the chopped up pieces of veggies, in my drink for me to eat after drinking it. One of the least expensive places I've eaten at, ever, for all of 2024. Friendly staff, clean interior. (Though the restaurant itself doesn't seem to be in the greatest of neighborhoods) More parking in the back of the restaurant- Chips and Salsa at the table - LOVE their house salsa, has a beautiful chipotle esq flavor to it. Appetizers (Taquitos De Guacamole & Green Chili Stew) seem to come in individual sizes, not something you would share with a table. I have celiac disease and my experience here was absolutely wonderful! They really went the extra mile for me! The manager personally prepared my meal! I love this place I've been going here since I was in my early twenties and I'm 74 now. However January 10th my family ordered take out and the #4 red chili enchilada plate had about 1tablespoon of chili on it and my daughter ordered the Indian taco with Christmas chili. Her plate had about 1 tablespoon of red on one side and 1 tablespoon of green on the other. It wasn't even mixed together. My grandsons green chili burger had more chili on it than our plates. I was so disappointed. I didn't know we had to order extra chili in order to get our usual dishes with chili on them. I have NEVER had service like this from your restaurant in all my years of being your customer. read more

First time in a while since I been to this particular location and maybe there is a reason. Our waitress took out order and it took about 30 minutes for our food. Took awhile for her to check on us and bring drink refills. As for particular way for check to be done since I'm using federal M&IE for work and yet she made it difficult and kept all on one ticket. Dropped off the ticket and didn't even check on us to get the cards and payment. It's not busy at this time of the evening (8:43pm) and yet no waitress to pick up the check. Slow service here. We were tired after a long workday and showed up this afternoon. We were received immediately and offered our choice of where to sit, preferred the Cantina, which was spacious and lively. Joe immediately greeted us put chips and salsa on the table (great smoky sweet wonder) and took care of us perfectly. Here's another Saturday #abqrestaurantreview! Came to #loscuatesabq for lunch as we were headed elsewhere and my husband spotted this place and wanted to try it instead. I'm was still running a fever (non contagious ) so I wasn't planning on posting but thankfully felt inspired! Our server Frank provided excellent customer service in this roomy but comfortable dining room and ultimately I decided on the fajitas especial. This restaurant was awesome! They were completely packed and on a 20 minute wait when we arrived. We noticed open seats at the bar, and they gladly sat us there! Our bartender Miguel was so very nice, and very fast! The service bar was full of orders but he was still quick to get our drinks. The Bloody Mary was fantastic with their homemade mix. Not too spicy, but full of flavor. We had the shrimp cocktail to start. This is not your typical shrimp cocktail. It had cucumber, celery, onions, a lovely red sauce and a roasted jalapeño on top. Very refreshing!!! I had the stuffed sopapilla , my hubby had the chicken enchiladas, and our friend had the chimichanga. They were all very large portions and so delicious! I know it's only chips and salsa, but man! They use I think smoked chipotle in their salsa and boy it was soooo good!!!! Very unique tasting. Overall we had a great, long lunch. It's been a while since I was impressed with a restaurant. Though it was great, I'm not going to even comment on the food, as we all like different things. This review is about customer service. Each and every employee I saw was hustling. Multiple people stopped by to make sure everything was ok. Our waitress (Candice) was great, got the order right and everything. My water glass was never empty, which is unusual as I drink a lot. I just can't say enough. I even asked if the owner was in or something, but no. The employees just genuinely care and do a great job. This is the type of place I enjoy spending my money. read more

An old Albuquerque institution, Los Cuates remains a polarizing restaurant in the city. People just can't seem to make up their minds about their salsa! It's a rich, thick, slightly sweet version, almost a mole. I think it's delicious myself and find myself craving it every now and then. But some people are out off by the consistency and that it isn't like "normal" salsa (what is that, anyway?). The food here is consistently good. The green and red chile is very tasty, not too hot. I usually try one of the combination plates, as I don't have a favorite among the various offerings. If so had to choose, the relllenos may be the best item they offer, although the huevos rancheros are pretty tasty as well. Make sure to eat the sopa. This is top three in town, and if you get it warm?! Oh man, is it good! read more
