I wanted to sit at the bar, and despite there being only one occupied table, I was told that there was a 10 minute wait. Once served, the waiter-bartender gladly made me a marg with no sweet and sour. Well done. The queso arrived topped with shredded cheese that didn't melt. The chili relleno was spot on, but arrived before the enchiladas. The carne adovada enchiladas came out as just carne adovada. It was quickly replaced. Good. Came here on a Monday evening around 6PM, had to wait about 10-15 minutes, short-staffed I guess since the restaurant wasn't actually that full. Patio isn't open yet. Got a stuffed sopapilla with carne abodaba and asked to sub out the rice and beans for calabacitas, then was served chips and salsa. The salsa is spicy, really tasty! Stuffed sopapilla was tasty too, was quite big, flavorful meat, delicious red and green chili. Sweet sopapilla was tasty as well. For the amount of food, price was fine, was charged about $2 to change out the rice and beans for calabacitas though, bill came out to be around $15 post-tax. Limited dining during COVID didn't stop us from visiting. We were greeted with an estimated time wait they took out number and called when a table was ready which was only about 10m wait. Our server was excellent he made sure we had our drinks and put in our orders right away. We did not have to chase him down for anything and our food came out quickly. We ate there last week at lunch. Nice and cool inside with very cold beer and icy cold beer glasses. Red Chile enchiladas were terrific as were the green Chile chicken enchiladas. Refried beans and rice were terrific too. Many times the sides in NM restaurants is an after thought, but not here. Sopapillas were very good. Service was great as well. I remember the Los Coates on Lomas used to be Cocina de Carlos many decades ago when I was growing up. The food was good, just not what I ordered. I put in an order for 2 pans of cheese enchiladas with red chili. I ordered this for 23rd of December. I came in made the order on December 20th, and paid for it. The woman who I talked to on the phone said this was more than enough time, and if I wanted could call Friday if I needed to. The woman who waited on me when I came in to place order was also very nice. My daughter picked up the order on Saturday as was scheduled. When she got there they had my order sitting there ready to go. She asked if everything was there, and they said "yes" so she picked up the order and took it to her house as we were having them on Christmas Eve. We cooked one tray and froze the other for New Year's! They smelled so good while heating up. When we were starting to serve them for our dinner we realized that they were chicken instead of cheese!! The chicken enchiladas were good, but when you are all looking forward to cheese enchiladas you can see how this can really be a big letdown for the meal. I was going to call but they had already closed for the Christmas Eve holiday. The other tray by the time I thought to check it was frozen solid, so to be sure I would have to cook it. We didn't have them till a week later in the New Year, on January 8th or 9th. Guess what, they were chicken too. I was just hoping it could be cheese. This time I really did get upset. I didn't call again, but will, I wanted to calm down, which I did. This was my first time at this Los Cuates location and I have to say it was SO GOOD! The bartender was so nice, greeted us right away and sat us at a nice table in the bar area. I've been eating at Los Cuates for about five years now and their new Mexican food is one of my favorites. They have great happy hour specials throughout the week. Many light and dark Mexican beers on tap and in bottle. I ordered the chile con queso as an appetizer which was served hot and came with many chips. For my lunch entrée I ordered the tilapia fish tacos which is served with rice, beans, pico de gallo, guacamole, and salsa. It was delightful! For dessert we had the sopapillas which are always made to order! The prices are reasonable and the environment is always relaxing and laidback. I will be visiting Los Cuates again soon! read more

We were visiting Albuquerque at the end of 2021 and read some good ratings on this restaurant. We decided to drive around and search this location out. They were not very busy, but we arrived around 4:00PM for a late lunch / early dinner. We were seated right away and drink order taken. Chips and salsa arrived along with our drinks. The menu is pretty extensive so it took us a while to make our selections. I had to try the Indian Fry Bread Taco - been wanting to try it for a while. The others ordered an enchilada platter and split it. The Fry Bread Taco was fantastic - great flavors from the taco toppings and that great fry bread ! I would order that again in a minute. The enchilada platter was good according to the family. The service was a little slow and we had to ask to get our drinks refilled. That's why the rating is a little lower than it probably could have been. I would return based on the food. read more

Strange and different from the rest of the Los Cuates in town, the margaritas and food taste a little different. The one good food item here was the guacamole salad, simple and good. The best locations are the 2 on Lomas and the 1 near Alameda and Coors. The taco salad had poorly seasoned meat and too much iceberg lettuce. The bar and service used to be excellent. But on our most recent visit, the margaritas tasted of dish soap and the bartenders were impatient. I recommend El Patron or even Papa Felipe's as better alternatives. It's just average Mexican food. I was driving through town and this was just the closest Mexican restaurant to the exit.

Today was the last time my husband and I will visit Los Cuates. We arrived, it was busy, but there were empty tables in the dining room and 2 tables in the bar. We had to wait a few minutes for the "guard" to arrive at his station to inform us that there is a 20-25 min wait. I requested to sit in the bar, and he said the same wait. There were only 2 people sitting in the waiting area and people were leaving. This is the second time I have experienced being treated this way by this gentleman as if he was the "boss". Clearly he is not because he would not have talked to us like that. He could have explained the wait, instead, he just CHOSE to be rude and condescending. Like us being there was an invonvenience. It's been a few years since we have been here. Came in tonight the hostess was super rude right off the bat, rude cold and just a down right jerk. She didn't even look at us, just kept saying it's 30 minutes no matter where you sit. We decided to wait it out. Ordered jalapeño margaritas that were really gross, warm and loaded with jalapeños and cucumbers very weird we sent them back and once we did that the server turned cold and short. The food was cold, came out wrong and the sopapillas cold and hard. Staff was walking around seemingly upset even heard one throw an F bomb while entering the kitchen. Maybe it was a bad night, I get that people are overwhelmed but we won't be retuning anytime soon for a second chance. read more

Los Cuates on Lomas used to be a go to in college so when my cousin came to town and I saw there was a location by his hotel it was an easy choice. I was incorrect. The chile was not a good representation of NM chile, the food was just all together poor but he graciously ate it. I went with a fellow NMexican and he noted it was a poor choice. We agreed should have gone to Gardunios down the street, which is disappointing because I prefer hole in the wall places. read more

It's the Chiles stoopid! LOL! There are so many debates about what makes great Mexican food. Personally, I'd eat Mexican food everyday if it wouldn't kill me! That's not to say that it's unhealthy, or lacks healthy choices...but more like if that's all I ate for brekkie lunch and dinner, well, the unhealthy part would be missing out on so many other worldly options. But I can't help it. I was raised on it and it's always been my comfort "go to". I had heard about this spot from a dear native Albuquerquian (sp?) friend and promised myself when in town, I'd try it. It was a super hot day, I was tired, and didn't feel like going out so my vision was a swift delivery to my ice cold hotel room, feet up, comfort food in and TV on. I was not disappointed. My food was still warm, dropped off by the friendliest food delivery person ever - I do always tip well - these folks deserve it - period. I started with the homemade chips and guac. Simple, crunchy and chunky. True guac needs not much - just a bit of mixed ins like onion...but really its all about the avocados right? The appetizer was advertised as a "guacamole salad". The pic and description showed a corn tortilla shell with a scoop of guac on lettuce with tomato on top. There was no tomato to be found but not gunna complain. Nice to have -not a have to have. Chips were perfectly warm and toasted. Guacamole cold and fresh. I inhaled it .....sans the shell bowl as I haven't had good experiences with "shell bowls" in terms of the stale factor. So I don't know if it was or wasn't. Next came the Chicken Enchiladas which I ordered "Christmas" style with the sauce on side. The usual rice and beans joined although I will say both were unusually good compared to other places! Just the right amount of chicken, spice, cheese and sauce. Everything melded together for a damn good New Mexican comfort food experience. They also throw in some homemade sopapillas for a light dessert. My vision was executed on point! Locally owned for over 35 years, I could taste the generational love. There's nothing like local area roasted chiles and homemade hands in the kitchen. The salsa here is so renowned, you can buy a jar to take. Whether delivery or dine in, well worth it. Do it. You deserve it. read more

Negative 5 stars if possible!!! .... the restaurant was verry dirty. Carpet was not vacuumed. Which was disturbing and uncomfortable to walk into. The food looks like my kid made the tortillas with a playdoe machine. And the rice from a box. A piece of old brown lettuce garnished our burrito. The chips tasted horrible, stale and looked weird. My wife had to wash her silverware in her cup of complimentary water. OUR plastic drinking cups were contaminated with a film you could not see through. I wouldn't blame the staff they are more than hospitable. This place gives New Mexican food a bad name. What recipes??? The management really needs to step up their game. This being my first visit to Albuquerque (only 2nd time in NM), my friend that use to call this home highly recommended Los Cuates. I took him up on the recommendation, and I regret it... because it has now ruined any chance of me enjoying Mexican food outside of New Mexico! This place was fantastic: service, food, you name it. Manager was extremely attentive to the dining room, and my waitress was great. But the food... the FOOD!!! Salsa is crazy difficult, but very good. Definitely not like any I'd had before. Ordered the Chicken Enchiladas "Christmas style" with both green and red chilies. Holy Snopes! Hands down the best Enchilada dinner I have ever eaten! And fun fact: apparently in NM they bring sopapillas out with the meal. Yes: They bring dessert with the freaking meal. And then when Erica (waitress) brought the check, she literally asked me if I wanted some sopapillas to go. TO GO. I think she gets me... Been to Los Cuates many many times, but apparently hadn't yelped 'em. First of all, the salsa - it's not what you're used to - it's sweet and fiery. Deal with it. After you've had a few chips, you might just fall in love with it. I did - several years ago. Enjoy! Second - what to order? Chile Rellenos - with green sauce. That's all you need to know. Third - finish with sopa pillas - how can you go wrong with that? If you haven't been, you need to check it out! If you have been, why haven't you been back? So what if you had it yesterday. Stopped by as recommended by local friends for authentic New Mexican places. Very laid back place, able to accommodate groups that just drop in, with at least three areas of seating that keeps the noise din down. The queso was really cheesy and spicy and makes the prefect entree before dinner especially combined with a nice cold beer or house margarita. We enjoyed the Tamales and Marcus Combo plate and selected both the red and green sauce (Christmas style). The tamales were pretty standard but the pork on the combo platter was tender and spicy so might be a better option for those looking for New Mexican style fare. They let us close the place down without giving us the bums rush and for that we are grateful since we were catching up with friends. read more

It's easy to get burned out on New Mexican places here in Albuquerque, but this is one of my family's favorites. The positives: Their salsa is very unique. It is sweet and hot, definitely not your typical restaurant salsa. The quest and guacamole is very good and comes in an edible tortilla chip cup!! My wife and I get the same thing every time, and it doesn't disappoint. I get the ribeye and enchiladas, Christmas style (red AND green Chile for those who are not locals). My wife gets the chicken enchiladas. Food is always good. Negatives: The service can be a bit slow occasionally, even when the restaurant is not very busy. I just met a friend here for a quick bite after work. Nicole is a very cheerful hostess. Our waitress Carmen was amazing!! Very efficient and friendly. I had a coupon for a free queso and it was delicious. We just ordered stuffed sopapillas a la carte because the dinner portions are so large and we weren't that hungry. They were well prepared and tasty. Saw my buddy Vito as we were leaving and we got to catch up briefly. The staff is wonderful and the food is great. read more

The Menaul location is where to go if you want: your order wrong, food poisoning( twice in two years), and attitude from their takeout crew when they make a mistake on THEIR policy (train your staff adequately). If frustration or illness is what you seek- the Menaul location for you. If you want service that's great and minimal issues take the trip to the Lomas location. The place had massive portions, a friendly staff, and the food service was decently quick. I had the Carne Adovada and it was great; the pork was exceptionally tender. The music was live and played by a wonderful duo throughout the experience. The chips and "salsa" (which was more like a spicy ketchup) was unexpected, but tasted good none the less. The entrees were about the same level of flavor as the complimentary fare, but what really saved the moment was the service. Lots of hospitality and generosity from everyone we met. Only leaving 2 stars because the hostess who sat us was great. We went in last night for a Father's Day dinner, and we were sat by the hostess. Our waitress never came to our table, and the hostess saw that, so she came and took our drink orders and brought us chips and salsa. The waitress took about 10-15 minutes to come take our order. Throughout the meal, when our waitress walked by, we had to stop her to ask for a few extra things. She kept forgetting and we had to ask her a second time. When she brought out our bill, she charged us for an adult chicken burrito meal and the soda, when my son ordered from the kids menu. I let her know and she said, "Oh I didn't know". My son is 9, and had the kids menu right in front of him when ordering. She took my reciept and said her manager took off $4. That didn't cover the price difference from the adult meal to the kids meal, along with the drink that was supposed to be included in the kids meal. She didn't want to fix the amount and basically just said she couldn't fix it but I could talk to her manager, very rudely. The only good experience was your hostess was great. From checking on us, getting our drinks, bringing my son the ice cream that was included in the kids meal, and being very polite. Thank you to her! read more
