Only leaving 2 stars because the hostess who sat us was great. We went in last night for a Father's Day dinner, and we were sat by the hostess. Our waitress never came to our table, and the hostess saw that, so she came and took our drink orders and brought us chips and salsa. The waitress took about 10-15 minutes to come take our order. Throughout the meal, when our waitress walked by, we had to stop her to ask for a few extra things. She kept forgetting and we had to ask her a second time. When she brought out our bill, she charged us for an adult chicken burrito meal and the soda, when my son ordered from the kids menu. I let her know and she said, "Oh I didn't know". My son is 9, and had the kids menu right in front of him when ordering. She took my reciept and said her manager took off $4. That didn't cover the price difference from the adult meal to the kids meal, along with the drink that was supposed to be included in the kids meal. She didn't want to fix the amount and basically just said she couldn't fix it but I could talk to her manager, very rudely. The only good experience was your hostess was great. From checking on us, getting our drinks, bringing my son the ice cream that was included in the kids meal, and being very polite. Thank you to her! read more

I live within walking distance of this location, and go (or used to go) there quite often. Over the past couple of months their service and quality of food have dropped CONSIDERABLY. I usually give a place at least 3 chances before any kind of negative review. The last two experiences were terrible. My previous visit (11.22.2017) I attempted to place a call in order and was "disconnected" 3 times after being placed on hold almost immediately. So I went over to find the takeout area full of frustrated guests. Apparently, according to kitchen staff "the beans are cold" and would take 30 minutes to heat... Needless to say I left, thinking it was a fluke. My final visit last night, I called my order in - using the menu online - ordered an entree BY NAME, upon brining my food home, found that it was completely the wrong order - the only part of the order they did get correct were the sopas. Considering the drop in quality and accuracy, one can only think that poor management is the culprit. Poorly trained employees aren't to blame when a once great place for food has become so terribly poor in service and quality. read more

I sat at the nice bar, enjoyed a few beers, chips & salsa, a cup of green Chile stew, and Frank's combo plate. Everything top notch. Major shout out for the stew. Los Cuates saved the day! We started our night planning to eat at La Salita. We showed up at 7 with our party of 9, told it would be about 20 min. After 35 min, and every single other waiting party had been sat, we asked how much longer. We were told, in a very pleasant voice, "If you don't want to wait any longer, you're welcome to leave." So, of course we left! We went to Los Cuates and were literally welcomed by Elizabeth with open arms. Janelle was our server and she took amazing care of us. Between these two wonderful ladies, our family dinner night was saved! The food was delicious and our watermelon margaritas were quite yummy. My friend and I had margaritas here before and decided to try it again. I'm glad we did! The margaritas were as delicious as we remembered. We sat at the bar and were able to talk without having to yell. We got some nachos which came out without the garnishing but the server quickly brought us the garnish and some extra sour cream which made me one happy girl!! This was the first restaurant my friend took me to while in Albuquerque. Instead of the dining room, we opted for the bar. The bartender was really cool, and hooked us up with our margaritas (and a story about the cockroaches of Arizona). This was my first time getting asked: "red or green chilis" I was a NM chili virgin, so I didn't know what to say. I went with the green. So yeah, our food was definitely above average. Lots of flavor and no blandness. I had a yummy tamale, taco, and enchilada. All in all a pretty decent meal, and we had a great time catching up (I hope we weren't too loud [or raunchy with our jokes], because by the time we left, we cleared out the bar and it was only 9pm!). read more

This was a tough one. I wanted to give it two stars but can't really recommend it on second thought. The food is totally lackluster in the way you would expect from Tex-Mex: too much bad sauce, too much meat at the expense of other more interesting ingredients, and too canned. The prices are on the upper side of reasonable. The service was inexperienced and apathetic. This feels like a local restaurant that is either under oblivious management or the owners have gotten to comfy and have stopped trying to deliver something unique, New Mexican, and quality. This place is disgusting. When my family and I went to have dinner there I had an uneasy feeling about the place the moment I sat down. I ordered a cheeseburger plain with fries and at first it was good, but then I went to pick up a fry and with it was a giant hair ball buried in the fires. I let the waitress know then the manager. It felt so unreal because it was so much hair. The manager acted like it was a little piece of hair, not a hair ball. At first he charged us for the two other meals that my family didn't even get to eat. Then we said no and he charged us for only the drinks and appetizer. Then he had a horrible attitude toward us. We got the salad on a plate, no bowl. We had to ask where the bowl was. They were out & had to make them! Dont you think she should have told us that?? We asked for our sopapillas after we got our food. She brought the bowls later. Never checked on us. Just asked us if we were ready for the check. "No, would like our sopas". After getting off the plane in Albuquerque at noon time we decided to stop at an authentic restaurant for local New Mexican Cuisine. Although the food reminded me of typical East Coast Mexican restaurants, the flavor certainly was ramped up substantially. After telling the waitress and asking for another appitizer, it was game over in her eyes. totally rude after that. if i wanted raw avacado in my guac and rude service i could have stayed at home. First time eating New Mexican food. Got the carne adovado burrito, no cheese. It was basically just a tortilla wrapped around meat. Maybe this is just how it's done but it wasn't very well-balanced or interesting. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing. I did get some guac and chips but the ratio of chips to guac is very strange. They give you this huge bag of chips, a small thing of guac, therefore you waste most of the chips. I was underwhelmed but maybe I just didn't get it. I have been to 2 different locations and both instances I ordered the Indian Taco. It's DELICIOUS! The servers at both locations were prompt and friendly. Even during a lunch rush, we didn't have to wait long for our food, chip/salsa refills or drink refills. The $$$ are comparable to other mid-range Mexican Restaurants. Usually $10-15 a person. The salsa is unique. It is a spicy-sweet combo which is delicious. They provide free sopapillas and honey with your meal...so yummy. The atmosphere is basic Mexi restaurant, nothing special but clean. Overall, this establishment is a good example of New Mexican dining in Albuquerque. Made a visit to the place on a whim during a business trip based on a local's recommendation. Good choice overall. I had a mix plate with two enchiladas, a chili relleno and rice/beans. The entire dish was good, but unfortunately I've had much better in cities such as Austin and Dallas, TX. But I did want to mention the best part about this restaurant: the meal automatically includes sopapilla's....for free! This restaurant was one of my husbands favorites, he has many memories coming here and even my in-laws suggested we stop on our way through town. Chips were good, I didn't care for the salsa at all. So we ordered the green chili queso, which was decent as well. I ordered the Carne Asada plate, without the enchilada's and added rice. The Carne Asada was not good - but it wasn't bad. I didn't enjoy eating it, yet I could eat it. There were 2 little tostada like cups, one bean and one guacamole and they were both great. Only thing is they were very plain since I didn't like the salsa they really tasted average and boring. My husband had and Indian burrito (I think) and he loved it. Sopapilla's were great, however they came with our entree so by the time we were ready for them they were cold so it ruined the only good thing about the meal too. I dine out 5 - 10 times per week and I wouldn't go back here again. Yet, I don't think that everyone would feel the same so I am giving it a 2 star instead of a 1 star. read more

I've been coming to this Los Cuates roughly since they opened, I think this use to be a Godfathers Pizza before that but it's been a while. If you've never been to Los Cuates the very first thing you're going to notice is that the salsa is not your normal salsa, it's sweet and almost has a BBQ taste to it, once you get past the initial shock of how weird that is it's actually quite tasty. The food portions are large enough that I've never finished my plate even when I'm extremely hungry (side note: my wife and I typically share plates at most restaurants so a big eater likely won't have this issue). A plate is generally a bit pricier than some of the other "hole in the wall" places around but thus far I've not had a bad meal. read more

Used to be my favorite Mexican restaurant - especially for their unique and delicious salsa - and my husband and I went religiously every week, but the quality and portion sizes of the food have declined while the prices have risen. On one memorable occasion, after a month out of town, we were astounded to find the restaurant nearly empty at lunch hour, and when we opened the new menus we discovered why - the prices had gone up 50%, all in one go, the portions looked like they'd been hit with a shrink ray AND I ended up with food poisoning. Needless to say, we didn't return for a long time after that. A considerable time later, we were in the area, hungry, and decided to give it another go. It had improved somewhat - prices the same, but at least the portions not so tiny, so we'll likely try again. I will give them kudos for excellent, fast service. read more

If I could give it a zero I would. I went to get lunch today from the to go part of the restaurant. I ordered Shredded Beef burrito combination plate. When I got home to eat the order was totally wrong. The food they made me was a Sopappilla with regular ground beef inside. There was potatoes as well that overloaded the Sopappila. There was only like 2 bites of ground beef in the burrito, the rest was potatoes. I called and talked with the manager and she apogized and realized that they had completely messed up on my order. She said she would replace my order if I could go back and get it. She said it would be made right as a Shredded Beef burrito not a ground beef burrito. I went back to the store and she reassured Mr that the food was made correctly this time. I got home and started to eat and the food was wrong again. They gave me a ground beef burrito not a Shredded beef burrito. They messed up again, and i was still very hungry and upset now. I called the manager and all she could tell me was that she was sorry and that she told the cooks to make it the i wanted, but they messed up again. Now im sitting here , starving, used up most of my gas in my car cause the location was very far, and i had to go by twice and still not get it right. The manager told me that i could go back a 3rd time and get my irser made right. What an awful thing i went through. Im a disabled veteran and im on a budget amd this was gonna be my good meal for the week and i ended up with the wrong food twice. Im still hungry and if i want my food made right or my mobey back i gotta drive all the way back to their store. That means i have to put at least 8 dollars in gas to get an order that should of been made right the 1st time. I would recommend for no one to ever eat at this restaurant. This is definitely a family place that's been packed every time I've been there. Great food, low prices, and something in the salsa I can't quite identify, but definitely lik (it's got a "smoked chipolte" thing going with a hint of sweet that somebody mentioned might be honey.... Their Carne Adoboda is awsome. Not killer hot, but up there. And very, very flavorful. Their Carnitas plate was great. And the chicken burritos were fantastic too. Service was stunningly fast, and when they realized I drink a lot of tea, they left me a pitcher. Top it all off with the freshest, lightest sopapillas (if Sopapillas can be light) I've found on the road, it's one place I go back to almost every time I'm in Albuquerque.
