This is the perfect little hole-in-the-wall for authentic taqueria style Mexican food. The space is tight and the atmosphere casual. The ordering counter is immediately on the right as you walk in the door, with a drink cooler to the left and a pan dulce case across room. The gal at the counter was very friendly, helpful, and patient with our family of four. My wife ordered the Burrito Enchilado, my 11-y.o. son ordered the Tamale plate with beans & rice, my daughter a basic cheese Quesadilla, and I went for un Orden de Al Pastor (comes with beans, rice, homemade tortillas). The whole family loved what they had, but I can't speak for their taste buds, so I will just elaborate on my own... The first thing I tasted was the large horchata that I ordered. I found it to be very sweet and syrupy, with a good balance of cinnamon. For just drinking by itself, I would prefer the lighter, less sweet horchatas that I've had at other local taquerias; but when paired with my dinner plate, I thought it was excellent. All of our food came out very quickly, and all were generous portions (especially for the price). In addition to my al pastor, they also brought out a roasted jalapeno with a wedge of lime -- one of my favorite treats. How did they know?!? The tortillas were obviously fresh, and they reminded me of my benchmark for homemade tortillas, Luis' Taqueria in Woodburn. The al pastor was lightly sweet, with a homey warm flavor that is hard to describe -- I rate it even better than my old standby, El Chilito in Canby. The beans reminded me of the real home-cooked Mexican refried beans I've had a handful of times over the years, and the rice also did not disappoint. Absolutely delicious. We took home a few small bits of leftovers, most of which came from my 7-y.o. daughter's quesadilla -- she could only eat half of it. We headed over to the pan dulce case after dinner and each picked out a treat to eat at home later. It was all very good. I don't want to be too quick to crown Los Girasoles as the best Mexican food around, so I'm going to have to come back and try a few more menu items. But after one visit, I will confidently place in the same category as Luis' and El Chilito. We will be back for sure. read more

The food here is not good if you have any sort of standard for Mexican food. The women who worked there were very sweet but it didn't make up for the lack of flavor in the food. The veggie enchiladas were just filled with rice that's it, and the rice on the outside was cold. The shrimp tostada was so bland all I could taste was the like metal flavor from god knows what and it may or may not have been frozen one of the tomatoes felt ice cold to my teeth. The Pollo was bland but thank god for their sauces on the table made it much easier to put down. Lengua, again, great texture but lacked much flavor at all. I put so much salt and sauce to make it resemble anything. I don't understand how this place has such great reviews. Save your mouth and drive to wood burn after your hike you'll enjoy it much more. read more

My group had a burrito craving after a night of camping for Oktoberfest. This was the highest rated Mexican place in the area so we took a trip to Silverton to give it a try. The interior looks like it was pieced together little by little with free supplies. I counted 4 different types of vinyl flooring that I could see from my seat, but Thats not really what matters. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. There were a lot of other Latino people coming in and out to buy their fresh pastries so I imagine they're traditional and tasty. I didn't have room to give one a try unfortunately. It took me a few minutes to get a handle on the menu posted behind the register. The layout is kind of messy and your choices and combinations aren't obvious right away. After a few minutes I decided to go with a steak and egg burrito with everything except onion. I'm glad I made that choice as everyone else in the group said the onion was more than they needed. The burrito was pretty big. My friends had a hard time keeping the bottom end of theirs closed as they were pretty loosely wrapped. Mine was easier to manage somehow. There were a few bites of steak that were too stringy for me to swallow but overall it really hit the spot. I'd recommend giving it a try. read more

They have flavorful food and are not the run of the mill Mexican taco joint. Their pan dulce is decent. We went back yesterday and had burritos. They were fantastic. I ordered the everything burritos which included cabbage, cilantro and sour cream. My mom had chicken, Rani and I had Carne Asada, the boys had lengua and my daughter had a quesadilla. Everyone agreed the meat was well-marinated and the burritos were huge. My daughter loved her quesadilla. They were akin to having a combination plate in a tortilla. This Mexican restaurant has a bakery that smells fabulous and the breads are inexpensive and fresh!! can resist and will be getting some of the tasty treats to go. Regarding the Mexican food, it's very good and fresh. My meat preference is the pork and as a note to self, I should get two pork tostadas next time I go. (Or the soft-tacos with carne' asada) This isn't your big city Mexican restaurant and the dishes lack any type of sauces, so they might seem a bit plain if you are used to a chili gravy sauce or queso. If you like more spice, add the green sauce that is provided with the meal. It has a bit of a "kick" to it so try it before using. read more

I just came in at 1:00 pm Thursday April 29th. I have eaten here before and enjoyed my food and the fact there is a Mexican bakery inside. The place has gone down hill. The young man at the counter was rushing us along to order our food. Then after we ordered he asked if we got everything we wanted. I said oh yeah and 2 pastries. He told me to grab the tongs on the inside of the cabinet and a tray and he would ring them up at the counter. The tong I picked up to get ready to pick up my donut had been used and had donut crumbs on it, even tho there was a small sign on the outside of the glass that says please don't put tongs back. As well as the tray I was about to put my donut on had a grease mark on it and that told me it was dirty. So I said to you have a paper I can set them on or a napkin or something. He stood next to a pile of napkins and he said No there's a tray use the tray. I put the tongs back and the tray, closed the door too the pastry cupboard and walked back to the counter having not grabbed a pastry since he refused to give me a napkin. He said what you don't want the pastry? I said it isn't that, I need a paper or napkin to put them on. He says ok, so you don't want them, we clean them all with bleach after every use. He then starts ringing us up, and says was there something wrong with the tray? I said yes it was dirty, I needed a napkin, and it's covid, i didn't want to set them right on that tray so I guess I just can't get any . He responded with ok! He didn't care at all. He walked over to the cupboard looked at the tray and shoved it back into the cupboard. The young kid behind us got asked him for a paper too, he said just use the tray, and the kid grabbed the tray and just did it. What if it had covid on it from not being sanitized like it was. He could have just gave me a napkin, plain and simple. He continued abruptly with other customers speaking fast. Not taking his time. We stood and waited for our to go order for another order 15 minutes and that was 15 minute he could have made it right by handing me a napkin. I would have gladly bought a pastry. I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT TO ANYONE EVER, AND I WILL NEVER RETURN FOR THEIR BAKERY. There are dozens more to send people to in Salem instead. Sour people at the counter ruin a good business especially during a pandemic when people can get deathly sick. Hire people who care read more

Decided to stop in Silverton on our way over the mountain. My friend mentioned Mexican food and we found Los Girasoles. Wow! Great food made fresh. The chile relleno was fabulous and the chorizo burrito got 2 thumbs up. We each also got a taco. And, they have horchata!! A nice little place with the charm of a neighborhood cantina. They also have baked goods for sale. Lots of locals come just for the goodies. We got some for the road. We now have this on our "gotta go back" list. read more

We picked this place because of the reviews on Yelp. I have to say don't let the exterior deter you. Outside it looks rundown and snappy. The moment we walked in we were greeted by a charming woman. She was busily taking orders on the phone. Several people picked up orders while we sat and ate. It's obviously well known by locals. The inside was clean. They had Hispanic music playing on a TV with horrible speakers, but I barely noticed it as my hubby was humming with delight as he enjoyed his food. My husband had the carnitas plate. He said most Mexican rice has no taste but this one had flavor. The meat was cooked perfectly without being dried out. He loved the beans. (Not sure but the good tasting ones are usually made with lard.) Top it off, the corn tortillas were handmade. I had a sopito with carnitas and a pork tamale. Both were very tasty. The red hot sauce was too hot for us, but we both loved the green. Not sure if they don't make chips or were just out. That would make it 5 stars if they'd have had homemade chips. Prices were very reasonable. Looks like it's family run. I think that makes it even more authentic and welcoming. I needed a relaxed atmosphere and that's exactly what we got. read more

Went looking for breakfast on a Sunday morning in Silverton. Unfortunately so many of Silverton's restaurants are either closed or warning of long wait times due to the lack of employees. Stumbled on Los Girasoles, and noted a good number of people on their patio. You order inside and they bring you your food to wherever you are seated. Ordered three sunny-side up eggs, rice, and refried beans. It was promptly delivered and the eggs were perfectly cooked. A great meal. read more
