Looking to try a new place that had 7 mares soup was our mission today. We found a few places and this place caught our attention. We were iffy about it because the location is not the best and parking is limited due to their businesses around but we stayed to try it out. We ordered a few items: molcajete, ceviche tostada, 7 mares soup, and complimentary chips & salsa. I'd say that the flavor of the food could be improved as well as the presentation of the meals. A little bit of love and care for the food should improve the quality of the food by a lot! However, $59.51 after the food did its job and we were full by the end. I was recommended this restaurant by a friend and I am glad to say that it did not fall short of all the hype. So happy that I found a place nearby that has authentic mariscos plates. I live in Pasadena so this place is just a hop skip away, about a 25min drive which was well worth it for me. I ordered the Taco Gobernador Mixto which is shrimp, octopus and imitation crab. I give it a 5/5. The portion was great but more importantly the flavor was outstanding. I wish I would've ordered more. I also ordered a plate of the aguachiles, another favorite dish here. The aguachiles did not disappoint. I've tried aguachiles at many places throughout the years and these are a top contender for the number one spot. Just the right amount of spicy which means my mouth was burning and my nose was running, just how I like it. My girlfriend ordered the tostada de ceviche (cooked). She also enjoyed her meal very much. The service here was great and is always very much appreciated. The owner came out to check on us to make sure we were enjoying our food. I can appreciate a business owner who cares about his clients and will go the extra mile to ensure they're having a great experience. I am adding this to my monthly to do list. The flavor of the food that I feared would be bland was far from it. I'm not sure what seasoning was used, but it was so moist, flavorful, and went well as an whole ensemble. The only thing I will say is, I'm not sure how sanitary it is, because our complementary salsa had a piece of hair in it. Yes, it was gross, but the salsa was so good that I kept eating it. I was honestly shocked to see how the shrimp tacos were served here knowing that it has good rating. So dry. It was only the double tortilla with the cooked shrimp and a splash of dressing. Really good seafood. The menu has a good selection to choose from. I like that they even have some healthy options such as what I ordered today (grilled fish with grilled veggies) rather than your typical fried and cheesy seafood dishes (which are good too but sometimes you want a lighter and healthier option). The service was great with friendly staff. The prices were reasonable. I also tried the 7 mares stew (7 seas) and it was very tasty and had plenty of seafood in it. I came on a Sunday and it wasn't crowded so we didn't have to wait. This is always a plus for me because when I'm ready to eat I'm ready to eat. Lol. Definitely coming back! Another good option they have is you can choose cooked or raw shrimp (which is really lemon cooked) for your ceviche. So for people who get icky about raw shrimp they can choose cooked. I had to chose between Tono's Taco and this place, both of them are in the same mini shopping center. Lucky Me, I may of picked the wrong place. The inside was OK, it was clean and the host/waiter was cool. Along with the cook. I ordered the Asada Taco and Fish Taco, the fish is normally deep fried with a batter on it, but they said they could grill it. Great I'll take one. (my mistake) I also had a ceviche tostada. Ceviche Tostada, take a look at the picture? This was a mound of ceviche, it was just OK, to much lemon in it, the salsa helped it but not much. Fish Taco grilled, this may of tasted better if it was deep fried with a batter, but it was pretty bad the way I had it. Not even the salsa could help it out much. This is one of the first times I tossed my food out. Thanks to my fellow yelper Pancho V, I don't feel bad about it. Hate to write a bad review but ordered through postmates and I literally have to throw my order away. I ordered 2 fish tacos estilo ensenada. Batter was severely undercooked. I took a bite out of my taco and I felt like I was eating cuero. I picked off the batter to eat the fish alone and that too was not cooked properly. And was flavorless. I ordered these tacos a la carte and my order came with rice and beans which isn't terrible. But the rice and beans were overserved and fell onto my tacos. I really dislike beans and I ended up getting a bean rice fish taco. On top of that the portion of the fish itself was small it looked like a cole slaw taco. Three full to go containers were also placed into ONE plastic bag. Shortly after receiving my order and walking to my door, the plastic bag ripped and out fell some rice and tortilla chips. It helped that they accepted credit cards. Let's start with my order, a shrimp burrito. It would've been a decent, not great, bean and rice burrito because as many tiny shrimp that it had, I couldn't taste a trace of shrimp in it. I had to add the juice from my husband's hot seafood tostada to know I was having seafood. Also, who serves a salad with Mayo on top as a side? The cooked hot tostada was tasty, just not a fan of fake crab. Very flavorful. They should season their shrimp for tacos and burritos with it. The regular fish ceviche tostada was also bland and flavorless. My husband couldn't tell he was having fish. They provide only one tostada. Not enough for the serving. Many places we've been to will give you at leas two per order. Finally, we ordered guacamole and chips. The chips were good and light. The guacamole was good, but I would say this is more of Pico de Gallo with avocado. I'd order that again. All in all, this place is good enough for someone who lives down the street and needs something quick. Not good enough for a drive if you live away. The food we had wasn't bad, just not good. I'm not sure how they got 4-5 star ratings. Maybe they have good friends and family helping them out. They need to up their food game so they can truly earn 4 stars in my opinion. read more
