I took the family here for a birthday. It was our first visit. The atmosphere is great--pictures, paint, lighting--a real Mexican feel. I ordered the carne asada plate which was excellent. It was a ribeye steak. They didn't give me a steak knife. I don't know now if they forgot or if it was on purpose, but my butter knife cut the steak just fine. The chips and salsa came with bean dip and roasted salsa. I loved it. Wife and kids loved it. There are a lot of items I want to try in the future. We will be back. My husband and I took a guest for dinner. Our guest couldn't even eat the chicken tacos saying they were horrible. We notified the server and she charged us anyway. I was so embarrassed. Service was friendly but extremely slow, shockingly. Overall the food was pretty good. We have no serious complaints. Portions are appropriate for prices $8 - $12. Serving breakfast was a plus. They have a full bar as well as a unintimidating menu. I could nothing terrifying or wondrous about Los Pinos. The food tasted fresh and well seasoned. For the past year or so we have been asked to be patient with staff because they are understaffed. I'm ok with that but when I have to wait and than served burned food. Than NO, I will not eat it and like it. So when the server came back I showed her the burned taquitos and said just take it off my bill I don't want anything else. When she brought the bill she says don't worry I took the Taquitos off the bill. No even a sorry. So, I will never, ever go back. Placed an order to pick up, and said I wasn't going to be there till close to closing time. Hostess was very kind and said it was fine. Stopped here for a quick lunch on a weekday after 1:30. It was perfect for outdoor dining. I had the best shrimp enchilada EVER and I eat Mexican food often. Love the salsa, the carne asada street tacos and my husband enjoyed his asada taco salad, churro dessert and mango maragrita. My wife and I took my mother and father-in-law out to celebrate for my father-in-law's birthday. We had been here once a long time ago for a rehearsal dinner and then one time for lunch. We have to say we were not very impressed on those two visits. We decided to give it another shot as they opened after covid restrictions were lifted and I have to say our meal was absolutely phenomenal. The chips salsa and beans that came out were fresh and hot. The drinks were refilled quickly the guacamole appetizer was incredible. I ordered the steak and shrimp fajitas all were cooked perfectly and served piping hot. My wife ordered carnitas tacos. Carnitas are generally what I judge a good Mexican restaurant on they can't be too greasy they can't be too dry the flavor and seasoning has to be right and I have to say they were very very good not the best I've ever had but very good. My in-laws both had enchiladas and we're very pleased with them. I noticed on their plate though they had sliced Jarred jalapenos. the only thing that I would say I could recommend from that meal was that they use fresh jalapenos or give an option. Today was our first time visiting Los Pinos and we were not disappointed! The asada street tacos were AMAZING. I chose the cilantro rice and refried beans for sides, and those were also so good. Hubby ordered the nachos and gobbled them up quickly. We found Los Pinos a year ago in the Entertainment Book and decided to stop on the way back from Red Hawk Casino. Now when we go up to Red Hawk, we make it a point to stop for fajitas. Just tried it tonight. We were pleasantly surprised. I don't, however agree that it is "kid friendly." The music from the bar is very loud. We arrived and were seated right away at 7 pm. No trouble parking. There is a kids menu, but this is more upscale Mexican cuisine, so I personally wouldn't take the kids. My husband and I dined alone. Service was outstanding. In fact, my usually stingy husband raised the tip I put out from 15 to 20% because he was so pleased with Leah, our server.She had a great personality and good senseof humor. I had the Ensalada Camerones Picante and was thrilled to find such a fresh healthy choice on a mexican menu! Loved it! My husband had the Carnitas Burrito and said it was great. They greet you with a tray of three dips for your ample bowl of chips. She even refilled the Fire Roasted Salsa and chips for us. I posted photos of what we had.
