We had dinner here, and I'm not kidding -- it was heated up food which had been made earlier in the day, or possibly the day before. The food was served at room temperature, on a cold plate. The portions were small and not very appetizing. It was the most plain, cheaply cooked Mexican food I'd ever had. The food at Taco Bell is tastier. But wait, there's more: it's EXPENSIVE! This is a $25+ per person restaurant! I can almost understand the understated "cafe" food, served in an austere setting, if the bill is small -- but this place is an expensive place for such lousy food! Okay, lets just start off. The photo of the burnt pancake grosses me out!!! It literally makes my skin feel itchy. I suffer from trypophobia (the fear of clusters of dots or holes) so this picture makes me CRINGE!!! However, my husband wanted menudo and he found this place. It could be me Paso, but I have a hard time finding a yummy Mexican food place in this town. So, I walked in, hopeful to be proved wrong. I ordered the chicken enchilada and egg plate, my husband stuck with the menudo. My order came out a bit strange, here's why: The chicken enchilada looked a bit fat and not in a good way, it just looked clumpy. The sauce tasted like las palmas can sauce. The chicken was chunks of chicken, not shredded chicken. It was also super dry and no other flavors inside. (no cheese, or sour cream, or cilantro, just stuffed with chunks of dry chicken). The beans were also dark, pinto beans, not mashed. My ordered didn't come with tortillas, so I stole some from my husbands plate. Then, the home fries were REALLY dry and fried. So fried, that you can't even taste the potato inside. It's just not a good representation of what a Mexican breakfast can taste like. I didn't try the menudo, my husband said it was fine, but I though the size was a bit small. Also, you had to request hominy inside. Why isn't this standard in menudo? Weird... Also, no chips and salsa at the beginning? Really? Why isn't this standard? Now, I judge hard on Mexican food, and this place looked busy on a Sunday morning, so locals seem to like it just fine. The food is still good, however this place has got out of control expensive. For example, if you add guacamole to your burrito, you have to get a whole side for $4.99. After tax the burrito is over $20! Then add the 4% service fee for using a card. This is the most expensive Mexican establishment in the greater Paso Robles area. I don't come here often enough. I still have only come here for breakfast but I am never disappointed in the food. It's always a flavor explosion of deliciousness! The only reason for a 4 star review is for the sometimes spotty service. I can't and wouldn't knock the food at all. You always get good sized portions and never leave hungry. That is an absolute certain! They have an excellent choice of things to eat on a menu with a wide variety. It's a very relaxed and inviting atmosphere too. I really like the feel there. It has the slower feeling inside that Paso used to have. It just is a friendly inviting feel that make it still have the small town feel that Paso once had. And there is never pressure from the waitstaff to get your check to you and out the door like many places now try to do. That means a lot in my opinion. We were taking a walk waiting for SLO Sweets to open and decided to have a quick bite here. We have learned our lesson on getting big orders and food not being great so we always just order a taco usually asada to get a baseline of the food is good. We ordered one asada taco each. I decided to go there for breakfast on may 9th. I patiently waited for over 30 mins for my food, while people who came in after me got their orders. I complaint to the waitress and the cooks overheard and started bad mouthing me in Spanish. I speak Spanish so I understood what they said, calling me a cry baby and what not. We went to another Mexican restaurant that was highly recommended Finca, and they were closed at noon. The owner was sitting outside of the restaurant at Finca and told us he highly recommended Los Robles Cafe. This is a place where locals go. We walked in and were promptly seated. Our drink orders were taken and delivered right away. The restaurant was half full. They serve breakfast till 2pm. Our orders were served within 5 minutes and fresh and hot!!! The shrimp 'mojo de ajo' was so amazing with the perfect mix of garlic onions and butter. The rice and beans perfect. The green salsa with the free chips was interesting. Spicy and smooth. I loved it. Hashtag loved it. All my families food looked amazing. Everyone raved. We were ravenous and full when we left. Definitely worth going out of your way. Lowkey local spot with classic Mexican and American fare. I stopped by on a Sunday morning to grab a breakfast burrito before hitting the road. Service was friendly, food came out super quick. Seemed like there was a good amount of seating indoors. I peeked at other peoples' food as it came out of the kitchen and everything looked great with big portions. My husband had the Los Robles burger with a side salad. He said it was delicious and I'm inclined to believe him; he'd already gotten to it before I could take a photo. The food good but the -cost is high. I tried to use my creditcardand then they wanted to add on a 4% credit card fee! I think that is illegal to charge extra to use a card. The waitresses appeared a bit frazzled and the restaurant had many tables still with the dirty tables on top. But we were seated immediately in the outside patio. The menu is extensive with burgers, sandwiches, and Mexican plates. This was a great place for our group of 4 and we all ordered different cuisines based off of our cravings. The al pastor is juicy and a large portion. Also greatly enjoyed the salsa spread. We sat outside and there were a lot of flies. Do yourself and your loved ones a favor and come here and get the shrimp fajitas. They're incredibly seasoned and flavorful and the peppers and onions are cooked perfectly. Not over cooked or undercooked-cooked just enough. They're served with rice and beans which are also really good but the star of the show is the shrimp fajitas. Husband got the chicken enchilada which he raved over and complimented the amount of cheese used and said the enchilada sauce was great-deep flavor without being overcooked and it was seasoned really well. He also got a chicken taco that he put lime on and sat in complete silence while he ate it and then wished be wasn't so fully so he could order another. Our only regret is not getting Modelos. Found this gem on our last trip to Paso! Walked there from the Stables Inn! My hubby is obsessed with finding the best breakfast burritos in any town we visit! This is definitely the place to go! We had the sausage breakfast burrito and a side of biscuits and gravy with two house salsas. We died and went to heaven! This is now going to be our go to whenever we come to town. Cheap meals but food isn't great. Meal costs $12 dollars w tip, so you can best that. I ate the huevos and it was not good. Wouldn't recommend or eat it again. The green salsa with complimentary chips is great though. There are other Mexican places I'd try before returning here.
