Had lunch at Lou Malnati's on a recent trip to Chicago. The place had just opened and I was waited on immediately. There is great seating both indoor and outdoor. The interior was clean with black and wood accents. Since I wasn't used to Chicago style pizza, I was surprised to hear about the wait for my personal pizza (30 minutes) but they told me up front, and it was well worth the wait when it came. While we were in meetings in the area we chose this location of Lou's to order Ubereats. We really wanted to enjoy some Lou's on this trip, so we utilized Ubereats to have this location's (West Loop) pizza brought in to our meeting. It came nicely packed for the ride... salad was fresh and looked nice... Pizzas were great! The toppings on the pizzas and the crust were the things I dream of when thinking about Chicago Deep Dish pizza while yearning this from back home in VA. We reserved our spot on Open Table and a must as the lines are long. Our server frequent often and was very helpful. The restaurant has two levels and the top is more family friendly and for large groups. There are games on the TV to enjoy while you eat. Pizza wasn't what we expected. We've had deep dish before and this was a little off. The crust was chewy and more sauce than ingredients. The Mike's Honey was disappointing. Hot giardiniera = carrots and jalapeños. The carrots threw us off. Never had carrots on a pizza before. We also had the pepperoni and sausage which was good because we knew we weren't going to bite into a carrot. People say there are 2 main restaurants to hit up Chicago style pizza, so on our way out of Chicago we hit up Lou Malnati's. We tried in the city, but the wait was 2 hours! Outside the main city center there are plenty of locations and we went at opening the next day. No line and got our pizza piping hot. Though, my favorite part of lunch was the salad dressing? The pizza and food was absolutely amazing! The deep dish does take 30 minutes to cook which is totally okay but is just something to note if you are in a rush. Unfortunately when I went, my server was not very attentive and did not check up on us/refill drinks often. Someone at my table had ordered a salad with no cheese and the salad came out with lots of cheese and we couldn't find our server for minutes to send us a new one. She seemed more focused on watching the World Cup game on the tv than serving customers. We had to repeat ourselves multiple times because of that. We had a prior reservation but it wasn't really needed as they have a lot of seating spread across two floor. I've always been a fan of Lou's so I was excited to see one walking distance from my hotel. Usually there's a huge wait on top of the 45 minutes it takes for your pizza to cook. Surprisingly, we were able to walk in and be sat immediately despite being a table of 6 adults and one child. For appetizers we started off with the three cheese bread. It came with a marinara sauce and is cooked to the same consistency of French bread pizza. Honestly I could've eaten the whole thing myself but I know my deep dish was in the oven. For our pizzas we did two larges and still walked away with enough leftovers for two more meals. We ordered the Margherita pesto pizza and then did a custom with butter crust, onions, peppers, and spinach mix. There's no way to describe deep dish to someone who hasn't had it but it's something everyone has to try. It's the flavors of pizza with the texture and crispness of a flaky pie. The cheese to sauce ratio was perfect and my favorite ended up being the pesto. Although you might get sticker shock paying $40 for a large pizza just know you will at best, eat 3 slices in one sitting. Consider it two or three meals and the value is there. read more

Came in with a group of six and we were sat immediately by the coolest dude who was the host/waiter/and maybe manager? He set the vibes right as it was our first time and we weren't sure what to get. We ordered a deep dish pizza and it was most of our's first time trying it and just about everyone loved it. The thin crust was a pleasant surprise too. I've heard of this style and can now confirm it's worth trying. The group was a bit indecisive about what flavor wings to try so my inner-Atlanta took over and asked if we can combine lemon pepper and hot sauce and the waiter happily obliged and thank goodness he did because that was one of the best bites of the night. Wow what a place to go to. I took my out of town family here. It was beyond chain vibes. Mostly empty but everyone there was a family or a single person sitting alone eating their sad little deep dish. When it comes to deep dish it's good, it's no UNOs Chicago, although it is as odd as Uno. We got the meatballs as an appetizer. I feel they were good in the moment just not the next day. For Lou Malnati's fans, the only two things I need to say are free parking and happy hour! 3 to 5:30 pm weekdays, includes drinks, some appetizers and cheese/pep/sausage personal pizzas. Its a freaking deal in this economy! This location has a parking lot so all you road warriors have no excuses. Three locations are excluded but there are plenty of others included. We got the sausage deep dish, meatballs which came with really really good toasted bread and the deep fried ravioli. The ravioli reminded me of crab rangoon sans the crab. We didn't think to ask for the buttery crust but will be doing that on a return trip. Make plans accordingly or leave work early! read more

Nice and cozy feeling and my waiter was extremely nice and informative. However, I wasn't blown away by the pizza. I ordered a personal deep dish cheese pizza, add pepperonis. I was convinced that I need to try the butter-crust instead of the original, because it baked better in the oven. We waited about 20 minutes for the pizza and I was not blown away. The crust was actually bland so I probably could have avoided the upcharge for it. The sauce was flavorful, but my pepperonis were non-existent considering I was also charge for adding those as well. My bf and I tried Lou for the first time together on night 1 of our Chicago trip. He's had Giordarnos (sp?) before and after last night's meal he has confirmed that Lou is better. We started with the garlic parm wings and Cesar salad because we did our research and knew the pizza took about 45 mins to make. The apps came out in about 15 which was great timing and we devoured them! The specialty margarita was toooo good and enough of a pour that we finished it over the course of the meal. I'm sorry to say that when the pizza came out which is obviously the main attraction your girl was only able to take one bite because I was stuffed! But please know that first bite was all I needed to see the hype. We got the small Mike Hot Honey which did not disappoint. As usual I poured hot pepper chili flakes all over my slice before taking a bite and I did not need to because that hot honey was the truth. The crust was divine, soft on the inside and crispy on the outside. And the toppings were delicious, especially that sausage, and spread all around evenly. Every bite was an experience. I may have to pop back into Lou one more time before we fly back to NYC. It was a great meal. All of our food came up to about $80. Def worth it for the quality and portions. read more

I like the layout of this lou malnati's. They have downstairs and upstairs sitting. The majority of the tables are upstairs. Alex was our waiter and he was very nice and attentive. We ordered appetizers, wings and individual salad. It took so long for them to bring the appetizers out. We ordered an individual salad and it was enough to share among 3 people. as a tourist i had to try deep dish at one of the classics! i got a personal pizza to share between the 2 of us who weren't super hungry but still wanted to try the pizza. we got the malnati chicago classic takeout and the wait time was roughly 30-45 minutes. needless to say this was DELICIOUS! the cheese was generous with an awesome cheese pull that would not stop as we ate. there were some chunky pieces of tomatoes that added a juicy bite to the dense-ness of the cheese. the sausages were delicious, meshing so well with the sauce. i was worried the crust would fall apart because of how packed the pizza was but it stayed perfectly intact and was so buttery, almost like a pie crust. i can see why it recommended to keep the pizza uncut for takeout because it keeps the cheese warm and the sauces intact. would absolutely come back here next time im in chicago! read more

Overlooked this spot for so long and finally stopped in for a quick bite. So glad we did. Mozzarella sticks were a great start. Served with a slightly spicy sauce to dip. Coming to Chicago it's a given that one must try deep dish pizza. After doing a little research and asking around Lou Malnati's was top of the list. We tried walking in multiple times and unfortunately they were always so busy so I made us reservations a few days later. Once we arrived we were quickly sat and able to order. Since there were 7 of us we decided on (obviously) a cheese deep dish pizza, a Chicago thin crust and my sister in law and I shared a house salad with the lemon garlic dressing as well as some garlic cheese bread. The wait for the pizza was pretty typical for deep dish about 45 minutes but we indulged in our other goodies while we waited. The bread was very tasty but the real winner was the salad. The dressing was so light and was very refreshing. I loved all the fresh veggies. The deep dish was fantastic. I could only handle one slice. The crust was crisp and there was not an over abundance of sauce and cheese. It was just *chefs kiss* our server was on top of everything and it was a great ending to our day. Huge restaurant with such cool decor and nods to the original Lou Malnati's! Everyone told me that this is a must try deep dish pizza chain in Chicago. This is the one in West Loop. Chicken Marsala pasta 5/5 - which had a creamy base, small juicy chicken bits, mushrooms and tomatoes. I loved this dish, though the pasta was a bit overcooked. Personal sized chocolate chip cookie pizza 4.5/5 - didn't have much cookie in it and came out with the ice cream being mostly melted, but it was delicious regardless! The Lou pizza 3.5/5 - what Lou Malnati's is hyped for - we ordered a small (2-person). This deep dish pizza was so juicy and filled to the brim, but lacked flavor.
