We went to Louie's last week. I hear the crowds are bigger on Saturday, but the place was packed on a Tuesday. Our waitress was very courteous and polite. The drinks came quickly. I had a martini, and my date had an old fashion. Both were perfect. The caesar salad was unreal. Crisp lettuce and crunchy croutons with shredded cheese and a perfect dressing. The bowl was even cold. The best pizza on the menu is pepperoni, sausage, jalapeno and onion. Skip the sauteed onions... makes the pie too soggy. I am writing this on an ipad while at the table inside Louies. We got lucky and parked right up front, got in at 6pm and the place was mostly empty, within 15 minutes it was packed! My wife and i are trying to stick to a low carb Paleo diet so i ordered the Souvlaki and she the Filet of Sole but unfortunately it was breaded but she peeled it off easily. My souvlaki was really tart, but Ive never had it before so maybe it is supposed to be that way? The red headed waitress was great, tea was always full, no issues there. I never saw the DDD feature on Louie's, but I didn't need to. The first time I came here several years ago, I knew I needed to make it a habit. Needing a fix, I went back again this weekend with a bunch of friends. Nestled way down on Henderson, close to Ross, Louie's could probably be considered a dive. The stucco building is nondescript and the sign is easy to miss. Once you've found your way inside, things feel nice and cozy. It's a small space, and the tables are packed in pretty tight, but it's not particularly claustrophobic. The place was packed, but it wasn't rowdy or noisy. It's a nice comfy place to eat some great food. And even under the strain of a packed house on Saturday night, the service was prompt, if not overly friendly - the servers were busy, so they were all business, which was fine by me. Anyhow, on to the food. We had a crew of nine, so we decided that three large pizzas would cover everyone. A couple of us wanted a Greek salad, so we threw in for a large in case anyone else decided it looked good. That was we had plenty food for everyone, and the last few straggling pizza slices eventually found homes before we had to raise a paw for a doggie bag. So how's the food? Well, first off, I'm a big fan of their Greek salad. The dressing is tangy, but not oily. Plenty of feta cheese hunks are present to provide company for the kalamatta olives and the crispy lettuce. Plus, by my count, the large salad fed five of us. It's a great salad and a ton of food. As we polished off the greens, the pizzas arrived. We had one veggie, one meatie, and one with plain cheese. For those not familiar with Louie's, make a note that their crust is thin. Cracker thin. I think that's a good thing, as it has enough crunch and flavor to be a good complement to the toppings, but it doesn't wield enough heft to pound your stomach into submission too early. Sliced into little pizza strips, it's eminently scarfable. Left unattended, I might've consumed an entire pizza before realizing what a terrible idea that might actually be. It's damn good. And when you factor in the volume of food you're going to get, it's a pretty darn good deal too. FYI, and this may be a deal-killer for some, they don't take anything but cash or AmEx. This was probably the worst dining experience I have had in years. We ate here six months ago and loved it... we were excited to bring our friends before a concert. Drinks at the bar were awesome. However, once we were seated, it went quickly down hill. Half our drinks were brought to us, and, after waiting 20 minutes and asking for them, the waitress finally brought them. We waited over an hour for our pizzas, with no updates or acknowledgements from the waitress. When they finally came, one was totally burned. No one checked on us during the entire two hour ordeal. When the waitress took our empty glasses she never asked if we wanted another drink or said a word about how long we sat there. It appeared that everyone around us was having the same experience as we had. What a terrible disappointment since we know how good this place can be. I just ordered tonight and they would not replace my soggy pizza which I could not even hold or grab to eat!!! Completely not edible. Garbarge! It's with a heavy heart that I write of my most recent experience at Louie's, a place I've loved over my 15 years in Dallas for its outstanding food and joyful ambiance. The appalling service last night began with an admonishment from a surly waitress that she might refuse us service after part of our table broke into a well-known football cheer. The tables around us witnessed the incident and found it to be absurd. I bussed for our table of ten for the rest of the evening, as not once would this waitress come over to pick up an empty salad plate. Our dinner never arrived. I asked our waitress to check on it. Upon one of my trips to the bar to deposit more empty plates, I asked again. Smugly, she said it would be "another 15 or 20 minutes" in addition to the 1.5 hours we had already waited. My wife asked to speak to the manager, who asked her "Do you want to eat or do you want to bitch?" Our table decided to leave, after paying for what we had consumed. I hope customers of this once-proud restaurant will hold it to a higher standard. I already see reviews from others last night that suggest that they will never return. Sad to see. read more

Were it not for the new-found popularity of this East Dallas dive, it could easily deserve 5 stars. In fact, 5 years ago it could have garnered 6. Beat-writers, local politicians and natives in-the-know would congregate here regularly (sometimes daily) over a martini and a pie. Word of mouth, a smoking ban and a food network expose later, this place has been overtaken by a whole new market. The standard wait is now over an hour. Couple that with a (usually + deservedly) exacerbated wait staff and an uncomfortable wait due to the snug facilities, and you can come up with 4 other pizza places that would be a more enjoyable overall experience for an evening out. But the pizza is still top notch. Best rectangular pie around on most nights. Caesar salad could compete for best in the city as well. Throw in the stiff drinks and you are still compelled to brave the DD&D crowd .. at least a couple times a year. A note to Guy Fieri .. please do not come back to Dallas. read more

I have friends who go here often. They will continue to go here often. I went once and I will never go back. The food is incredibley expensive for the mediocre quality. My boyfriend and I both had pasta entress and I could have made it better at home out of a jar. I did not have the pizza, so I cannot comment on the flavor there, although it seems most people enjoy it. Be prepared to drink water if you don't want to spend your whole paycheck on a couple of beers. C'mon guys, I drink beer at a lot of bars and restaurants ... I know how much it should cost. The fact that it is packed seems to imply most people don't mind paying $7 for an "import", but the long wait and substandard italian food do not make up the price for me. So a meal and a few beers that took us over an hour to get after waiting 30 minutes to sit down cost us well over $50. That's ridiculous. I would have placed about $20 of value on the meal and the experience. We are still invited often to Louie's and I actually enjoy saying "no". It is one of the few decisions I know I get right! Another of my top 5 favorite pizza places in Dallas. They make a mean pie but I would definitely recommend eating it right away. The thin crispy crust is best in immediate terms. It does get a bit loud in this one and it's pretty small so it's not unusual to have to wait a little for a table. However, I've never had to wait excessively. The food is definitely overpriced, the pizza is too salty, the meatballs are way overcooked and taste like rubber, and the food is overpriced (oh did I say that already?) Last weekend my friends and I entered this restaurant laughing and having a good time and excited to eat some pizza. The moment we walked in, we were verbally attacked for 2 in our party not having masks. I went back out to my car to get mine, and the other person had to pay $10 to buy one. We were treated with as much hostility as you can possibly imagine. We asked if we could sit in the bar while waiting for our table, and the hostesses responded rudely that of course there were no seats in the bar, only standing room, as if we were stupid. When we get to the table, there was a card telling us how we were to behave in the restaurant, which we set aside, at which point the hostess came running at us to ask if there would be a problem. At that point, we said yes there is a problem with your attitude, and we left with some choice words. We are all doing our best in a post- COVID world, but there is just no need for such disrespect toward your patrons. This restaurant will never get a single dollar of my business. We went around the corner to Pizzeria Testa and were welcomed with open arms, no masks required. I suggest you go there if you want to remember what it's like to go out for a decent meal in America where your hostesses and servers smile and are happy to have your business. read more

Went with a group at 530 and said we had a group of 7 - shut down immediately but the older gentleman who was at the front (not the normal hostess lady) and said he said "oh wow will definitely be over an hour all of the tables are taken" meanwhile could see multiple tables open and they do not take reservations so not sure. Sat at the bar because it was completely empty and just decided we could eat there. Sit there for about 5 minutes with no acknowledgement, asked a server behind the bar if we could get some water and she said "nope" and walked away.... ok obviously she must be having a bad day. Then was asked 5 min later if we wanted drinks from other bartender, so yes and we order martinis (what they are know for). After sitting there for 20 min the older gentleman who told us the wait was over an hour comes up and says "were you the 7 top waiting" so we say yes is there a table available now and he very very rudely says "oh no definitely not won't be a table for an hour and a half" Okay the WHY are you asking us if we were the table? Your bar is empty and obviously you know you spoke with us 20ish min ago sooooo not sure what you're trying to get at sir?
