A dive little dark place on a corner off Ross Avenue. I went to SMU, so this is an institution for me and my friends. We have spent a lot of time here. Best Pizza in Dallas if you like thin crispy crust. Try not to order too many toppings or the pizza will get kind of soggy. I like to get the fresh tomatoes with Pepperoni. The rest of the menu is quite tasty. The salads are very big portions, enough for two people. Yes, the service can be rude but it doesn't really bother me. Like Meredith said, if people are too loud and drunk, they will kick you out. You can call ahead and grab a salad and pizza to go, good call for a Sunday night. Be careful, they ONLY accept AMEX. One of my favorite places in all of Dallas. I will freely admit that the wait staff is not friendly. I actually stopped going there for a while a year or so ago because the wait staff was consistently and unnecessarily rude. We drive almost an hour just for louie's amazing pizza. This is the best pizza I have found in dfw. I highly recommend giving this place a shot. Short Version: Food: Amazing and made from scratch Service: Terrible Drinks: Strong and well made Long Version: I checked out Louies after seeing it on Diners, Drive ins, and Dives. And to be honest, if you look up dive bar in the dictionary you might see a picture of Louies next to it. When you walk in you generally have to wait for a while and the waiting area is about the size of a broom closet. The dining area is also small and terribly cramped and with people drinking you could be waiting a while. When I was last there they had two dining areas but one was closed off for some reason. I have no idea why they don't open it and seat another 20 people in there. Once you do get a table you will quickly realize that the staff hates life. They take care of you but they are miserable the whole time. I know waiting tables isn't the best time but I when I was a waiter I was happy when I was busy because I made more money. But once your food gets to your table all will be forgotten. I always end up getting the pizza and it is some of the best that DFW has to offer. It is paper thin and made with high quality toppings. Make sure to order plenty because with it being so thin a large doesn't go very far. All in all I have to give this place four stars. The service is brutal but I am not going there to have a conversation with the staff. I go there to get an amazing pizza that is always spot on. Dive bar on the end of Henderson. Cool chill vibes and mostly like a pizza joint during dinner hours. I want to love the pizza but boy is it saaaalty. I was craving for water the whole time after dinner. But I like that it fills up so they definitely have a regular crowd here. They open at 5 so go early and have a couple drinks and watch the games. Not much to look at from the outside. True Laid back dive bar atmosphere. True Wobbly tables held level with coasters. True Waitresses that look at you like you're an idiot if you order a supreme. True Awesome pizza. True This place is definitely a dive bar pizza joint. Pizza was excellent, not exactly what I expected from "Chicago Style" but the thin crust was really crispy. Don't ask the waitress for a supreme because the response was "what is on a supreme?" and "it will probably cost you $50". Pizza places in Dallas are soemthing I've been hearing a lot about lately. I love Piggie Pies, but some of my friends have been talking about how amazing Serious Pizza in Deep Ellum is. Cane Rossi has also gotten some mention, but my friend Marco suggested we head over to Louie's. Louie's is located on Henderson, pretty close to Taqueria Lupita, which I reviewed yesterday. Louie's is listed as a dive bar, and after going there I can see why, but they also make one hell of a thin crust pizza. We ordered two pies- a large with pepperoni, sausage and jalapeno, and a small with pineapple and 51st state bacon. The crust was crispy, burned in some areas, and just how a thin crust pizza should be. The toppings were plentiful. The pineapple was entire pineapple rings, not just the little chunks like most places give you. We devoured both pizzas; something that we were doubting we could do about halfway through them. The only complaint we had was how the pizza was cut; instead of slices, it was cut into squares. Pieces without crust are a waste, especially on a thin crust pizza. I'm wondering if they'll cut it differently on request. My only other warning about Louie's is that it is cash or AmEx only, so make sure you're prepared when you go in. They have a great selection of bottled beers, but nothing on draft. read more

Pizza was really good. However, we waited an hour to get it. After waiting 40 minutes, they brought the wrong pizza, we notified them. As soon as our waitress picked up the pizza she immediately looked over at the table beside us...made it seem like they got our pizza. She never said anything, just went straight back to the kitchen, where we could see the staff eating pizza. I think that's a health violation..I don't know, just a thought. We finally got our pizza after waiting for an hour. No apology was given, just a "thanks for waiting." We still got charged for the pizza, so we asked to speak to the manager. He came over and actually told us that was the first of him hearing about it. Our server didn't even tell him that our order was messed up or that we had waited an hour for our ONE pizza. Then, on top of that, he asked what we wanted him to do. Instead of discounting the pizza then and there, he said, "well, I'll take care of you next time you come in, if you ever do come back." This was my first experience at Louie's on Henderson and I was with a large group on a Thursday night. I certainly noticed the large sign at the front entrance stating "CASH OR AMEX ONLY" but luckily I was prepared for this. Louie's has a very mixed crowd including Uptown singles, blue collar workers, Highland Park moms, and older couples who appeared as if they had been eating there for 40 years. As I'm sure everyone has heard from other reviews, the wait staff isn't exactly friendly. They certainly aren't rude, just efficient and direct. The wait staff almost appeared like they were one big family running the place but this could have just been my imagination. It is even stated on the menus to "Be Patient" because each pizza is freshly made so we expected it to be a while before the pizza came out. As expected, it did take 30-40 minutes to arrive. I was actually very impressed with the pizza at Louie's. I loved the crispy-cracker crust and the plentiful toppings. The pizzas were big, with the Small being more than enough for one person, and the large being plenty for two hungry people. They serve most domestic beers in cans and most import beers in bottles. They did have an extensive bar but we didn't venture over there. Parking was easy on this night but I could only assume that on a weekend it would be a nightmare. The neighborhood on Henderson has greatly improved and the streets have far better lighting than they used to. Overall, I had a good experience at Louie's. There prices were reasonable, a great "dive" environment, the pizza was great, and a decent location. We will definitely be back to Louie's. read more

Total dive but one of my absolute favorites on Henderson. Awesome pizza, good (strong) martinis, great atmosphere. One of the house favorites is the crab leg appetizer. The meatballs are also phenomenal. Order both, you won't regret it. There is a main bar, with people milling around, and a bigger side room that has less character but offers a lot more seating. Be willing to wait if you go friday or saturday but any other night you shouldn't have to wait too long. The management and wait staff are great too. I've never had a bad experience here. read more

By far my favorite pizza in Dallas, followed by Elbow Room. My favorite is the pepperoni and jalapeño. Sausage is great too. Salads are good, huge portions. Only takes cash or AE. Some of the best pizza in the DFW area, definitely rivals Cavalli's and Cane Russo, even though it is a different style. If you don't like thin crust, then don't bother. We had a pepperoni pizza and a hamburger/onion pizza. Both were awesome. We also tried a crab claw appetizer, served in butter with soft, fresh bread. I have to say that Louie's has the best Caesar salad I've had. It's really, really good. I'll go to Louie's just for the salad. Cause I certainly won't go for the pizza. It's thin crust. That's nice. It's also a parallelogram. I don't understand that. Not like a Sicilian pie, but like...a rectangle. Of crappy pizza. If you get any veggies on it, it becomes wet. *shudder* It's similar to Campisi's pizza, so if you like that, add a bunch of stars and head there. If you like good pizza, grab a Caesar salad there and get a pie at Pastasio's. Or Grimaldi's. Service is spotty at best, but it doesn't seem to affect the crowds. I've been to this hole-in-the-wall a few times. It's just off the busy busy section of lower greenville. I visited here the first with a friend who heard the pizza was delicious and wanted to try it. We built our own and got a couple sides. Everything was delicious. The pizza was perfect. I certainly didn't expect this at a bar and I haven't been disappointed on return visits. It wasn't smokey on my visits, but I went on off days. The staff was very friendly and helpful with recommendations. The atmosphere is kind of dark and it feels like a dive. One of the regulars is/was an artist and there are sketches of many other regulars up on the walls. It's cozy and you'll feel at home right away. You'll find it filled with regulars. read more

This thin crust pizza is the bomb. They nickle and dime you for every single topping but the food was so delicious I didn't care. The interior is dark and divey but for this pizza, who really cares. We went here because a friend saw it on Triple D (I didn't and I am a Triple D Junkie...Where was I?). We essentially went there for drinks and appetizers before dinner. We had pizza and my friends had drinks (I was the designated driver). The pizza was outstanding. They make their own sausage in-house. I really like the thin crust. The atmosphere is awesome. It is a true dive bar. We went there on a Thursday evening and it looked like just regulars to me. I looked at the menu and there are several things I would love to try. I love pizza. Seriously, it has it's own food group as far as I'm concerned. And I love all kinds of pizza, crusts, styles etc. So when I heard about Louie's and their yummy pizza just minutes away trying it was a must. I'm borderline between 3 and 4 stars here. We got there close to 8 on a Thursday night and they were on a 30 minute wait. Not a biggie, we nabbed 2 seats at the bar and had a drink. I will say that I was overly impressed with the liquor selection, especially that the whiskey and scotch choices outdo the vodka by a lot. That's a plus in my book. We ordered our drinks and the bartender informed us of the cash/amex issue and that there was an ATM across the street. Who takes amex over visa or mc? Whatever...problem was solved easily enough. I did like that they just rolled our drink tab to our table b/c we were sat almost immediately afterwards (a lot of bars will make you pay out at the bar before you go to your table). Service was a little slow, but friendly. We got a pizza, of course. Lots of toppings, crust was crunchy and delicious, sauce and cheese were fresh and amazing. Overall, it was one great pizza. I can't say that I saw fireworks or anything, but I was a very happy camper and made sure I didn't eat myself into a coma and there was enough for me to save for lunch today. I've been to nearly fifty restaurants featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives, and the more I visit, the more I'm ashamed to admit this hobby of mine. The show can have a positive effect on small restaurants in small towns, where foot traffic is small, and being featured on a television show can help increase awareness of these restaurants. In bigger cities, however, the increase traffic is a deluge upon these unsuspecting businesses, losing a large amount of the niche appeal that made them desirable in the first place.This was the impression I received as I entered Louie's. A few things struck me as odd as I ordered my pizza: There was a sign posted saying that they no longer accept Visa or Mastercard. I understand to an extent - the fees that these companies charge on small orders (less than $10) can hurt businesses more than help. As I sat down and was looking for a beer to drink while I waited, I noticed that there was nothing on tap - the beers were bottled or canned. Again, I might be able to understand this given the "dive bar" status of the restaurant. The prices of the pizzas were high - $10 for a ten inch, with toppings running an extra $2 per ingredient. And I was shocked to see that, after two beers and the small pizza, my bill came to a whopping $24. $5 bottles of Shiner is incongruous with the dive bar atmosphere of the establishment. I have never owned a business, but I can only imagine the amount of profit they're pulling in with prices like these, and the traffic that comes through here - even on a Monday night, the place was pretty busy. As for the pizza itself, it was a cracker-thin crust cut into rectangles - popular of the Midwestern style. The cheese mixture consisted significantly of cheddar, the sharp flavor of which I thought overpowered the sauce and even the toppings to some extent. The cracker crust is my preferred type of pizza, but the large amount of cheddar used in the pie along with the high prices ensured I probably wouldn't return. But then again, perhaps I'm exactly the type of person these prices are intended to deter - the fairweather fan, who only visited because it was featured on a TV show. They knew that me and others are probably only going to visit once, so why not make the most off of the experience? read more

Can you say Mulligatawny? Don't worry about being able to pronounce it just order it. This curry flavored Indian soup is flavorful and meaty. I sucked it all down to the last drop. The thin-crust pizza with homemade sausage was also quite tasty and this was the first time in a long time that I've had a domestic beer and much less one in the can. The waitresses were quite nice as well. At times the service did seem a bit slow and it was mega crowded in the joint. Some dogs can't learn new tricks... Loui's really let me down. I've eaten here multiple times and like most, it has historical and traditional value. Unfortunately the service has gone down hill. I was "not" greeted to a hostess reading her book sitting down on a chair. Freezing day outside and she sets us at the table right by the door. I asked her if any tables closer to back are open and she says no. Then I was back there and 2 tables are clustered together, so I'm splitting them since no one offered to help and I'm told the table is for "6 or more". I was confused, there's plenty of tables by the front to put 6 if they walk on and I'm told it's "the policy". Well... not willing to even work with us, we were told the front was only spot. Very sad to see this. Hard for them to compete with better options coming available on Henderson. read more

Awesome dive pizza joint. The surrounding area is quickly improving so that it's less of a "omg, do NOT stop the car here, that can't possibly be where we're eating" type of reaction for a first-timer. A few tips: 1. do not seat yourself without being told to do so - if you inadvertently "cut" in the unofficial line, the hostess/waitress will notice and punish you with a longer wait... karma. 2. don't expect to pay with anything other than cash or Amex. 3. Carmelized onions as a pizza topping is a little slice of Heaven. Beer is served in the can (love it!), and the furniture is on it's last leg (some pieces quite literally), but that's what adds to the charm - it's all function and food, and it works. read more

I'm not sure why this place has a reputation for so-so service. I've been there several times, and every time was great. Parking can be iffy. There's a grocery store or something like that across the street, that is where I usually park at and walk. By far the worst thing is the cash and AMEX only policy. It sucks... but this place makes up for it. Plan ahead and get cash, you'll be glad you did. This place has a great atmosphere, very cool dive bar.
