Nine years later, we wound up here on Mardi Gras and had a really amazing experience (I also didn't read my original review and ended up ordering the exact same vegan roasted vegetable pizza). After a day of Mardi Gras revelry it got to that point around 6 pm and IYKYK... hunger struck and it struck hard. I'm used to this and I'm also used to having not great options on Mardi Gras day because the Quarter is chaos and I can't think of a single eatery that's open in the Marigny. So, we were on Esplanade and I was like, I bet LPK is open and indeed it was. We barely had to wait at all before a table outside opened up. Also, they were taking resos so that's good to know for next year. Planning your MG day is everything (but I rarely do it). Although vegan options are not as abundant as they were 9 years ago, the options are clearly marked on the menu. While veggies and vegan cheese are the options I lean towards, they also have vegan chicken. Salads are oddly not veganized. We started with the incredible artichoke app. They are whole, marinated and roasted, Roman-style. Our incredibly awesome waitress told us that they are made by her mother-in-law. How cool is that? And we all loved our pizzas. Think: cracker crust. I love a crispy pizza, not always easy to achieve with vegan cheese. Service here is superb, by the way. Our waitress told us she'd been there since that morning and it was non-stop. She handled all the tables with grace and kindness and was on top of all our needs. Major major props. Stopped here with a group of my girl friends. Why pizza in New Orleans? Because they offer vegan friendly options. Two of my friends have dietary restrictions and they were able to order freely and without worry. The space was very fun and hip inside. I was surprised with how empty it was, considering how close we are to the French District. But I'm guessing it's because this is not their busy season. Our server was helpful with giving his recs for the non vegan girlies in our group. I got the prosciutto and fig pizza and it was very good. The crust was thin and crispy and there was a yummy balsamic vinaigrette drizzled over the top. Oh, also.... I think everything was reasonably priced. We had a party of 15 yesterday. I enjoyed some of the best pizza I've ever eaten, prosciutto and fig with arugula and balsamic. The atmosphere was great, I loved the open windows the brick oven. Food and service is always on point for LPK.. We go there quite a bit, or grab take out, the menu is extensive! My favorite is the Tuscan Pork Chop! YES! At a pizza kitchen. The pork chop is marinated in a delicious rosemary dressing, served with some amazing roasted vegetables and a healthy helping of penne pasta with a delicious slightly sweet red sauce. This place is way more vegan friendly than meets the eye, when I told em I was vegan they brought out a separate vegan menu (loved the krab beignets) and said they can actually veganism most things on the menu. Specifically for the vegan food, would not recommend coming here. I paid $25 for the vegan pepperoni and $16 for the small vegan Cesar salad. The pizza was 12" with what I think was Daiya cheese and something similar to Field Roast pepperoni. The crust was very thin and had the consistency of cardboard. You would honestly be better off with a $6 frozen Daiya pizza. The Cesar was a lot better, there were some hopefully vegan Parmesan crumbles and house-made croutons, but for $16, you are definitely over-paying. I hate to leave bad reviews when a restaurant goes out of the way to have plant-based options but there are a lot of better options for a fraction of the price. read more

We wandered in here for lunch on Christmas Day when almost every other place was closed. I can't even eat cheese so would never have eating in a pizza restaurant otherwise. But it turned out to be great. First of all, the decor is really cool and fun with interesting artwork and painted instruments on the walls and a dark wood open beam ceiling. Our server, Stacie, recommended the crab beignets, and I'm so glad she did because it was the best thing we ate by far. This is an updated review. I notice that my last review was in 2011, and I can tell you that we almost always make it a point to stop in to the LPK across from the Old Mint, (now the Jazz Museum), when we are in town. We know that we can always find a good pizza, and a good experience here. The LPK never lets us down. Part of the reason I am updating my review is because I noticed that they now have "Vegan" options on the menu that include your choice of either a Vegan Pepperoni, or a Vegan Sausage pizza. I like this, especially at this time when a lot of restaurants are scaling back on their vegan and vegetarian options, but I was skeptical, too. I was skeptical because vegan meats and especially vegan cheeses tend to be lacking. Vegan meats have come a long way, even to the point where some like "Impossible," and "Beyond" are often hard to distinguish from the foods they replaces. Cheese, on the other hand, continues to lag way behind when it comes to vegan replacements. I have a favorite pizza restaurant back home that tried to go with the vegan toppings, and they failed. So, you can imagine that I was a bit skeptical, but I tried the Vegan Pepperoni anyway just to see how the LPK did it. To my surprise, it was GOOD. They used a brand of vegan pepperoni from a company called, "Field Roast." I like this company, and I like their products. The pepperoni was sliced in small circles just the way you'd expect. Back home, it is "diced," and that may have been part of the problem with that. Anyway, I do not know what cheese they used, but it was very tasty, and respectable, too. It wasn't quite regular cheese, but it was melty, and the flavor good enough to enhance the pizza overall instead of take away from it. I would definitely order this pizza again, and I find myself even kind of craving it, but, after all, I am a big fan of pizza to begin with, and I do like most pies I eat, but I did want to clap my hands, and offer a big "BRAVO" to LPK for coming through for the vegans. Pretty solid pizza place! I have had their spinach and artichoke dip which was pretty tasty, I love their cake on the bread! It was like the bread version of a funnel cake, but with Parmesan cheese! Delicious. Their fried calamari was delicious, I enjoyed their salads, and the pizza was pretty solid. I think we've had the pepperoni pizza and the smoked salmon pizza, all very tasty! After being barely greeted by a dour woman at the front door we were pleased that our waitstaff Dawn was terrific - very friendly and helpful. NOLA is one of those places people flock to for the food, the culture, the history and voodoo fun. We came to Louisiana Pizza Kitchen to try a unique pizza which was the Jambalaya Pizza. With Jambalaya being such a staple it was a must have and it was nothing but shooting stars 10 out of 10. The flavors pack such a punch and all work so well together you have to try it. The dough of the pizza was nice and covered in mozzarella cheese topped off with your Jambalaya sauce, chicken, shrimp, sausage, and ham. I had friends saying they wouldn't have any because it was a bit too out there and little do I know they try it and said it was the best thing they had there. We also had the Crawfish Etouffee. It's sauteed crawfish in New Orleans gravy served with rice. It was good but a little on the salty side. Not sure if that's how it should be. If so, then it tasted great and was spot on. If not then a little salty and luckily the group felt the same way. All in all the service was good and friendly, ambiance was nice and casual. Simple but nice. You can tell they were made with real bread and they were super soft to bite through. I would've eaten an entire plate of just those croutons alone. 4.5/5 JAMBALAYA PIZZA ($19.50) - The jambalaya sauce was not super flavorful but the sausage helped add saltiness. The sausage and shrimp were my favorites; the chicken was just okay and a tad dry. The pizzas were beyond delicious. The crust is light and thin and has a nice chew. The shrimp and crab pizza had plenty of toppings, that was a pleasant surprise. The. margherita pizza also was also surprisingly tasty, there was no tomato sauce and I didn't even realize it at first. We also had the calamari. It was served over marinara sauce? Why? My picky child enjoys calamari by itself without any sauces. So we had to grab the ones from the top that hadn't been submerged in sauce. The calamari itself was soggy ?
