We usually stick to the same couple restaurants for brunch but decided to branch out and try Loupiotte on a whim and I am SO glad we did. This was such an enjoyable meal. The food was AMAZING. Brioche french toast was perfectly sweet, with fresh whipped cream and berries, cooked perfectly. The soft scrambled eggs were perfect. We opted to get the parmesan on the side but it was SO good, somehow so fluffy and light it was like a cloud in your mouth (sounds crazy but I swear!) The food at Loupiotte is good, good like a warm hug, the smell of bacon at your grandma's house, or hot chocolate on a cold evening. It is straightforward, unpretentious, and comforting. If you start with the french onion soup, roasted vegetables, or toast with mussels, you will understand what I mean. If you finish your evening with the chocolate mousse, you will fully understand. Scooped from a tray directly into your bowl until you tell the waiter to stop, the mousse offers an elegant return to the hedonism of the college cafeteria soft serve machine. In a city as large and flashy as LA, a place as cozy and quality as Loupiotte is hard to come by. I've been coming here for the past 3-4 years and I can say without a doubt the food is consistently mouth-wateringly delicious. If I had to choose a favourite it would be the creamy polenta me and my partner consistently come back for. Although I will say it's a lot more than just polenta, It's a savoury, rich and tantalising dish that comes with cremini mushrooms and a fried egg. Nothing says a hearty breakfast like this Polenta. The vibes are immaculate, the decor reminded me of a homey French cottage core style that is perfect for pictures. The only downside is that when we were finished with our meal and received the check, I personally felt rushed because I did not yet finish my beverage. My oh my. A little piece of heaven on earth. I can close my eyes and picture myself in Paris. The decor, the vibe and everything about this place says come in and escape reality for a few minutes. Sarah, the owner was so lovely and explained every dish. We opted to get a few dishes because we simply couldn't make up our minds and wanted everything on the menu. I know the roasted butternut squash is seasonal, but if it's in the menu, it's a MUST. Brussels Sprouts we're fantastic and not overwhelming as you sometimes get with balsamic versions. Crispy, full of flavor without being greasy. "Not Mac & Cheese" was so delicious. Crispy top, flavorful cheese and none of that heavy feeling. We loved every bite of everything. I'm puzzled by anyone who didn't have a fantastic experience. Highly recommend. You will not be disappointed. We will be back for sure. We finished with the most amazing desert. My friend and I had met one of the owners at the Hollywood Farmers' Market and then walked by here the other day en route to somewhere else. It looked so adorable that we made a point of returning to try it. I'm glad that we did. I love French cooking. I was fortunate as a child to travel to France several times with my parents, and Philadelphia, where I grew up, had a number of outstanding French restaurants (like Le Bec Fin in its heyday and, at present, Bibou). French food seems relatively scarce here in LA, at least affordable French food (yes, Petit Trois is excellent, but it's fairly pricey really). Enter Loupiotte Kitchen, a French bistro that you wish was in your neighborhood. The ambiance is charming in a relaxing, rustic way. Service is congenial, and the food is delicious. My dining companion and I took advantage of the weekday happy hour pricing to score $6 glasses of wine, and these paired nicely with our two starters, a roasted beet salad and a leek vinaigrette (we also ordered some bread and butter, which was great to go with the two salads). We followed that with a steak tartare (topped with an egg--yummy) and a nicely cooked cod with carrots and kumquats. We shared a Chocolate Loupiotte, their ganache-filled take on a profiterole, which was a satisfyingly decadent (but actually pretty light) ending to a lovely meal. My only small criticism is that pacing was a little quick at the beginning--the first three dishes all came out fairly close together. We then asked if they could give us a pause before the cod, which they did. But ideally, they'd course things out and put a natural "rest" between the two starters and the two mains. But that's a minor quibble. Bottom line is we had an excellent meal for two (two apps, two mains, bread & butter, dessert, a glass of wine each) that was barely over $100 (including tip and tax). We came to celebrate our 8th wedding anniversary and Sara (the owner) served up a heaping serving of French hospitality! She practiced French with me and patiently explained the menu items while I admired the interior design. There are so many small details that make this place quaint and definitely a place to linger over a bottle of wine with friends. I loved my arugula salad topped with fresh peach, zuchinni, tomato and burrata cheese, while my husband had the quiche with roasted potatoes. We are so lucky to live around the corner from this lovely little French bistro. This was highly recommended to us by our awesome neighbors, who are very attuned to the hopping places in the area. While we had a delightful dinner experience here, I'd argue that their brunch is where it's at. They have a limited but wonderful menu of breakfast/brunch items and I intend on working my way through all of them. So far, we have tried the Tunisian shashuka, brioche french toast, breakfast sandwich, creamy polenta, and nutella beignet, all of which were wonderful! I'm especially partial to the creamy polenta, which was comforting and decadent without making you feel like death after brunch. The staff here have always been kind and personable. Lovely decor and really makes you feel like you wandered into a little cafe in France. There is the option of both indoor and outdoor seating. Its very stressful to be around and to see one person manning 15+ tables alone all the time. It probably sits at most 15 people.) and ordered myself a mimosa kit and scrambled eggs and lox. The eggs were cooked in the soft scrambled way. They were velvety and not at all rubbery. The staff was SUPER attentive. If my cup of coffee ever reached to the bottom of my glass, someone was by within minutes to fill it back to it's dark life giving capacity.
