Had an issue with the exhaust on my 2007 Acura MDX. Dealer would only replace the entire system even thought there were only a couple of bad parts. Lou's replaced only the necessary parts, fabricated a part so that the new parts fit properly. Cost you ask ... about 25% of what the dealer wanted. I have a 6 year old KIA minivan that would not lock on the the passenger side. I had gone to the dealer in Framingham and they told me that to fix the problem it would be around $450-$500. I had to have repairs done on my exhaust on my Jeep Cherokee. I was there at 8AM, they took me right away, and had everything done in less than 2 hours. This involved cutting, welding, and fitting. I will roll with Lou's in Waltham until the wheels fall off! My flex pipe went on my 02 Hyundai Accent which caused a host of other problems involving an O2 sensor and a check engine light. I called around to local businesses and Joe gave me a price that was a solid $100 under anybody else. He was courteous and direct and told me that if I made an appointment they could get me in first thing in the morning and I could wait for my car. I took it in this morning. Joe treated me like he'd known me for years and we chatted while his crew worked on my car. They were done in 40 minutes and Joe had them clear my CEL as a courtesy and all for the *exact* cost I was quoted on the phone. i was satified the 1st time i went to get my resonater dont here now went back to this shop 5 months later asked to check my suspension on my saab 93 i already knew what was the problem, wanted a second opinion they said i needed sway bar links front and back as well as sway bar bushings. they quoted me $800! parts and labor...i left the shop told them ill get in touch, bought the parts myself at advance auto parts in witch Lou's told me they dont have them yeah they do just had to order them duh!! so got all the parts 2 days later went to a local shop in my town, they only charged me $150 labor! and my parts were only $100! i think these guys may be cheap on exhaust work but not for other mechanical work not nice to take advantage of someone who you think might not know about cars specially woman. read more

Last night just as I was going out to a movie, there's a loud boom and suddenly my 05 corolla sounds like a Harley. Quick inspection showed the exhaust pipe had broken off right at the flange connecting to the muffler. After much cursing, a quick yelp search brought up Lou's. Lou's service was fantastic. Called in the morning just after open, Emery was very helpful and got me an appointment for 1 that day. Brought it over (fearing the worst $$$). They took it right in, and after just a few minutes, told me that they could have the whole thing fixed by cutting off that section of pipe, and flange, and doing a weld in of new pipe. They lost me when they priced me differently just because of the car's badge. A $150+ on a Mercedes Benz c-class for fitting exhaust tips while they did a friend's cat-back for $60 on a Honda civic. I ended up taking my business elsewhere for $80 including bumper cut-outs and custom welding to get the exact look I was after. If I had to speculate, that would have been a $200 job here... Not to mention that they also refused to do anything to the bumper. It was a simple job, but they saw badges and priced accordingly. read more

The word AWESOME can be overused, but today my experience with Lou's was truly awesome. First I was able to get an appointment the next day to evaluate the undercarriage noise in my 2011 Camry. Joe took me into the shop floor and showed me (from safely under the car!) exactly what the problem was. He proposed repairs to the exhaust pipes that did not require the purchase of expensive new pipe sections. And explained one optional repair without pressure. I am a car guy and have been working on cars for years. Most shops sketch me out, and I think they don't exactly know what they are doing. My experience there makes me believe that they really know what they are doing. I had a piece cut out from my muffler to my mid-pipe because it had rusted through, and had a new piece fabricated and welded to my magnaflow muffler. They use much thicker tubing for the exhaust than other places. Their quality is so much better than anywhere I've seen, and they do it for cheaper than any of the franchises. So go elsewhere if you dare for your exhaust needs, but I'll be recommending this place to everyone I know. BTW. they were very friendly to me, if that matter to anyone else. read more

I brought my car in to my usual brake and muffler place because I heard a loud noise that continued during driving and I suspected it was the exhaust system. It was, and their was a clean break in the front pipe which had rotted out. The front pipe was attached to the Resonater and Converter and my estimate for parts labor and tax was close to $1,000. After freaking out , I went home and found Lou's Custom Exhaust on Yelp. The reviews said they did custom work and that they were very fair on pricing. I called them today and even though it was a snowstorm, they said come over and we'll look at it. I brought it in and after only a few minutes they said they could cut the rotted piece of pipe, replace it, weld it, paint it, and that would fix my problem, plus they offered a one year warranty on the work. The entire cost to me was $95. I was so amazed that I asked them to fix it and then asked them why another repair shop couldn't do what they did and quoted me on an entire replacement system. They said it was precisely because they are a custom shop that gives them the ability and the machines to bend and weld metal pipe. Most auto repair shops don't have that type of equipment and must sell replacement parts that are welded together. These guys are great and fair and think out of the box for ways to save you money. I should have written a review for this place a long time ago, but better late than never. My muffler was making a rattling sound and was ridiculously loud when accelerating ('08 Infiniti FX35). The dealer quoted me $700 for a replacement, so my friend told me to go to Lou's before I did anything. It turns out there was a rusty piece that came apart at a seam because I don't drive the car often (water built up, etc). The guys at Lou's were able to fix it by welding a piece together for $150, and it was done in 20 minutes. I will never go back to an Infiniti dealer again. so my car had an exhaust leak and was getting LOUD. my usual mechanic said don't fix it - it's expensive and not worth it. next guy said i needed a whole new exhaust from the manifold back - $$$$. other estimates ranged from $900 - $2700. enter lou's. i call and describe the main issue (rusted out flange), and tell emery what other shops told me. he's like "that's crazy! bring it in, i bet it won't be anywhere near that". i doubt anyone cares about the precise details, but the TL:DR is that they employed some creativity and saved me a lot of money. 100% resolved the issue for $250 and an hour in the shop, by fixing what i had instead of just buying all new parts. couldn't be nicer guys either. i'm just completely blown away by how great everything went. only complaint is that they're only open 8-5 mon-fri so i had to take time off work, but for the amount they saved me, it definitely pans out. read more

I started writing a whole Saab story about my exhaust, but I decided to delete all that and just get to the point. My whole exhaust system fell to the ground, from the front. I was afraid the repair was going to be more than my 1993 Saab was worth (I bought it for 14 hundred dollars 9 years ago, so you do the math). One of the flanges in my exhaust had rusted and broken off which was causing a loud rattling to emanate from my SUV. Called them in the morning, they said they could fit me in if I could come right over. Got there, they got me in, told me they could just fix the pipe, and got it done quickly. I was probably in and out the door in like 50 mins and only cost me $80. They were friendly, didn't try to upsell me anything, quick, and they apparently do all sorts of car work, not just exhaust. About a month ago I had some trouble with my 2010 Nissan Sentra so I brought it to the dealer to see what the issue was. They told me I needed about $1,000 worth of muffler work. I decided to get a second opinion. I did a quick search on Yelp for muffler shops near my job. Up popped Lou's with a five star rating! They were able to fix my $1,000 problem for $80. Sounds to good to be true? It's not...they have a welding technique that can't be done in the service department at your dealership. They were open, honest and up front. The mechanic took me underneath my car to show me what they needed to do and explained how they would do it. LADIES you will not feel that typical "I know I'm being hustled feeling" that you get at other auto shops, the guys are really nice and they have a nice waiting area. They did't try to sell me anything I didn't need, they looked at the problem and fixed exactly what was wrong. 2010: Great job fixing my passat's common issue - clamp in the middle of exhaust pipe. It took 30 minutes for Rob to cut faulty piece out and replace it. Paid with card, they stamped 1 year warranty on receipt. No pitching for "change all not new parts" repairs. Very nice and professional, had to schedule the visit, car was taken and released on estimated time while I was waiting. Before Lou's I've been to another 4.5+* Yelp shop in Medford - I'm grateful for them taking a brief look immediately. They thought it to be the flex pipe (which was not) and quoted ~$600 for parts (whole downpipe and flex pipe) to be ordered - I'm glad I didn't go this path. Probably they would have checked first, but Rob from Lou's Custom Exhaust identified problem right while car was on the ground. I have been going to Lou's Custom Exhaust for pretty much all things car related for the past year and a half after needing my muffler and exhaust system replaced due to rusting on my 2010 Nissan Rogue. I can honestly say I am so thrilled that I found these guys! They are honest, very kind, super efficient, and do a great job. I don't know much about cars, but they have always been respectful and patient when explaining any issues with my car. Since having my muffler and exhaust replaced, they have replaced an axle and sway bar links, breaks and rotors, fixed a blower motor in my AC unit, and have even helped me install new headlights (although they dont typically do lights). Their pricing is always fair and I never feel like I am being ripped off by them, which was the reason I gave them my business in the first place. I was getting my Masters when I originally came to them and could not afford the quote I originally received at another shop to replace my muffler. Today, I went in because my car had failed inspection due to an issue with my headlights. Brian not only helped me diagnose and fix the issue, he then personally went to an establishment close by to ensure that I was able to get my state inspection sticker. Everyone, and I do mean everyone I dealt with (no less than three different people) was friendly and considerate. Emery, their office manager was great to talk with... Ask him about his love of bike riding. And equal to their customer service was the price. I paid half of what I was expecting to pay or would have paid elsewhere. Lastly, the work done was quality. One thing I noticed, which I've never seen before, was that they painted over the all the welds they made to prevent premature rusting. I do a lot of customization on my car (an '05 Mustang). I do most of my own work, but on several occasions have needed a hand with small welding jobs like adding an extra couple threaded fittings for oxygen sensors, or repairing a stress crack that had developed on a pipe. In every case where I've used them, the guys at Lou's in Waltham have come through for me with quality work at a very fair price. I've also been at the shop enough to see plenty of other customers coming in and going out, and this is a true no BS shop. If someone wants to do an elaborate custom system, these guys are of course up for it, but they also have plenty of customers that just need their daily driver fixed, and in every single case I've observed the guys at Lou's were diligent in evaluating and doing the repairs that were *needed* without any overselling. These guys are the greatest! About 6 or 7 years ago I needed a new catalytic converter, and all the other shops in the area wanted over $1,000. Someone suggested Lou's Custom Exhaust in Waltham, so I dropped by. In the office were two middle-aged guys who looked like bikers, and I wondered what I'd just walked in to. But I felt instantly relieved as soon as one of them said hello. Brian and Joe, the owners, are the friendliest guys you could ever hope to meet. Be warned, however, that their sense of humor bears a distinct resemblance to that of Click and Clack (Tom and Ray Magliozzi) of NPR's Car Talk! They fabricated the parts my exhaust needed and it ended up costing about half of what the other shops wanted to charge. I started taking my car there for everything, and over the years I've found them very reliable, and they've solved countless problems for me. I have just one complaint - I'm in Arlington and they're in Waltham. It's only a 15 min. drive, but whenever I've taken the MBTA home after I drop off my car, it takes somewhere between 2 to 4 hours! MBTA service sucks! Also, be aware that each Lou's Custom Exhaust shop is independently owned. My comments apply only to the Waltham shop. I've never dealt with any of the others. read more
