My new go-to spot for green chile! This gem offers seating both indoor and outdoor on a rooftop patio! The inside is very dark and much more of an intimate ambiance. Since the weather was nice we opted to sit on the patio. Service was friendly and attentive, i really appreciated that our server (D. Conn ;) ) continued to check on us and fill up our waters even after we finished eating. I went for the street tacos with green chile chicken as my meat choice and they were full of flavor and the perfect amount of spice. I ordered mine lovecraft style-- meaning they were topped with guac and creamy slaw. My friend ordered the green chile stew and added a fried egg on top. The stew was served with fresh tortillas on the side. Both dishes were the perfect amount of food for lunch. Definitely will be back for dinner service! read more

You just can't go wrong with Lovecraft! Been here enough times to write a solid review. Everything is great! The end. My first tip for Lovecraft is to bring kneepads and steel-toe shoes. I usually navigate the interior by bumping my knees around the furniture since it's so dark inside. Okay, it's not THAT dark, but it's very dim inside. Once you're able to make your way to your table with the help of your guide, I mean host, it's time to pull your phone's flashlight out to check out the menu! The service at Lovecraft is great. I usually do take-away, however, the staff I interact with are always very pleasant. Something nice about Lovecraft is the menu isn't too big, but they do have a lot of options. My favorite is the Meatloaf. Warning tho, it can be pretty spicy sometimes! But the food is New Mexican, so be comfortable with spice if you're choosing to dine here. This place was pretty, preeeeeety cool. I went with the New Mexico stuff since it's sold as, like, the specialty. It was quite good, very homemade tasting. The adovada actually tasted like my own red chile but with smoked pork. So, needless to say, a winner. The green chile was also better than average but I thought it was a bit too heavy on the cumin and not heavy enough on the green chile mass. Also got a super green salad with the cilantro vinaigrette which was outstanding. Like, I'd drink that dressing straight. The food is amazing. Don't get me wrong. The service is really great. Everyone's very nice, but I didn't like my drink and was told that I still had to pay for it. I have been in the restaurant industry for 10 years. I have never heard that in my life they said it's because it goes to waste. That's how it is at every restaurant of course it will go to waste but I shouldn't be paying for something I don't like especially when I know what a Mojito is supposed to taste like it's supposed to be refreshing not super sour . I will never be returning, even though I love the food and the service, but knowing that I can't return something I don't like bothers me. It shows me that the owner is cheap. P.s. Dined here recently and was not impressed by the amount of time it took to get our drinks, took to get our food or the quality of the BBQ brisket I had. We waited an hour to get our food once ordered. Yes they were busy, however, my brisket had very dry almost crunchy peices of meat on the plate. Just not something I would expect for a place that smokes all their own meat on-site. Easily took 15 minutes just to get our drinks. Awww. We really like Lovecraft, don't know how we haven't stopped earlier. When you enter, it has a very unexpected speakeasy vibe, given the neighborhood. Definitely an old school feel to the place. We have tried many entrees(they need to bring back the Frito concoction that stole my taste buds on that first visit. Think creamy, spicy, soul-satisfying, crunchy goodness). We have also been in for prime rib night and fried chicken Sunday. The fried chicken is very good, tender, juicy, generous chicken breast strips in a perfect crunchy coating served with two sides and cornbread. Nothing we have had has made us regret a visit. We thought it was interesting that Arizona had New Mexican cuisine, being that we're from New Mexico we decided to give it a shot. The patio had a really nice ambiance, the drinks were good, and the Mac and cheese with brisket was really really good. It was excellent in fact. The rest of the food wasn't so great and honestly none of it tasted like authentic New Mexican cuisine. Where were the hatch chilies? The service was friendly but sometimes took a while to attend us. True to its namesake it is a bit spooky which I love. Feels like you've entered a bar at the turn of the century. Great service, Anna was knowledgeable and nice. Enjoyed my Green Chile Queso and Cream Ale. The Smoked Prime Rib Wedge salad was okay, I felt I mainly got the fat from the prime rib. Lovely inside, and upstairs patio on a beautiful day is also enjoyable, but make sure you make a reservation for the patio because that was popular on a Saturday! I crave Lovecraft food on a very frequent basis. Every dish here is exquisitely delicious. Their green chile lobster bisque may just be the best lobster bisque in the Valley. It's only available on weekends, though. A lot of their weekend specials are superb, and I hope they'll consider offering them throughout the whole week at some point which is why I'm only giving 4 stars instead of 5. Along with that, parking is a nightmare when it's busy. Any time I think about dining at Lovecraft, if I drive by and see a crowded parking lot, I don't bother trying to eat there. I stopped in at Lovecraft a few weeks ago for the first time. I enjoyed my food and drinks, but it was a little too warm to do what I really wanted to do at Lovecraft... catch a sunset. If you really know me, then you know, I love to "catch a sunset" or "watch a moonrise". I stopped in yesterday to bask in the glow of only what God can create and assure we experience everyday of our lives... that beautiful glowing sun. The view to the west from Lovecraft is peppered with the span of North and Lookout mountains. The sunset sparked a beautiful orange glow and set the north mountain aflame. The only thing that could make the experience better is if the patio were further away from the traffic. Other than that, the sunset at Lovecraft was mesmerizingly beautiful and if you want to catch a beautiful sunset, this location easily hops into the top 10 places to catch a sunset in PHX for me. As for the food: prep yourself for spicy hot hot pepper laced dishes. We enjoyed a couple of things on the menu. But the standout item that I know I'll likely have Everytime I come back: the fries. The Summertime Sadness cocktail is a good choice for those who enjoy strawberry lemonade - the taste was similar to that. I love how there's an entire plant-based menu with options for vegans/vegetarians. I got the plant based chimichangas with smoky mushrooms. The food portion was an ample amount, and I appreciate that everything was freshly made. For dessert, I had the coconut key lime pie. I didn't care too much for this dessert, the key lime filling was throwing me off in the texture and flavor. Attempted to finally try this place since the pictures of the food always look so good on Yelp. However, my partner and I arrived and stood at the door while numerous workers walked past us, back and forth with absolutely no acknowledgment. We've both worked in restaurants and know how important it is to at least say, "someone will be right with you." They're also taking names on a clipboard w paper and it seems the worker handling it was just as confused himself and didn't bother to speak to us, just went along looking for someone else to seat from his list, couldn't even ask our names. Finally after another couple arrives, we hope the increased action at the door will get someone's attention. It does but he completely skips over us and asks for their information. After doing so he then looks to us, and we decide to leave because that set the tone for how the rest of the evening would go if we chose to stay. Obviously, a busy place with a lot of return customers. Lots... There's open-air dining topside and a swanky, more-or-less dark lower floor. Puppy friendly, we chose the upper deck. Traffic noise occasionally made conversation a challenge, but it wasn't bad. The menu is filled with culinary treasures for those that take good food seriously: excellent happy hour selections on food and adult beverages. Their nachos are truly unique and well worth sampling. The menu selection had something for everyone, and it was difficult to make a choice -- so we'll have to return (soon) to try out some of the other Southwestern/Mexican dishes. LOVECRAFT is a vibe and has something for everyone, including its vegan diners. It has its own separate plant-based/vegan menu that includes staples like burritos and tacos and something different like the jackfruit stew. It even has a key lime pie for dessert. We chose the chips and guac to start and the chimi's with jackfruit (over the smoked mushrooms) for main. The chips and two salsas that came with the meal were house made and all were delicious. In town visiting Phoenix and this was the fam's first big meal together. It was my first time sitting down with my new, 4-month-old niece. The staff was so nice and the menu had something for all types of eaters. For reservations for parties 6 or more though, you can only call in after 3pm. Also has an upstairs patio with misters.
