I Hosted a little Galentines party for my daughters and their friends last weekend . I was able to reserve the party room with ease, all online. Lovejoys was so accommodating while I was setting up, they let me decorate and bring in an extra bench into the party room, they even helped throw out some extra boxes I had while setting up for my party. The whole experience was amazing, the employees were all super sweet and kind. A frame painting activity was set up by their team and an ice cream making and tasting experience was had by these little girlies. The ice cream was all incredibly delicious. This is a whimsical little ice cream shop with lots of fun flavors, a family friendly environment (here's looking at you, baby wipes!) and a unique display of ice cream scoops. Unfortunately, our experience was not as pleasant as it could have been due to the service. The teens scooping up ice cream seemed inconvenienced that my kids and I wanted to try a few flavors (no one tried more than 2) but they were not very friendly or smiling, which made me feel like I had to rush to make a choice even though they were not busy. A sweet and cool (yes, pun intended) origination story from the owners, Blake and Cyndi Taylor, can be found at the link I'll insert below. Their backstory is almost as perfectly delicious as the small batch ice cream they make with care and serve with care in a light and bright shop where the space itself almost seems to speak "all are welcome here". You will have lots of ice cream options in the Treasure Valley and ice cream fan(atic) that I am, I'm pretty sure I've tried them all. Lovejoy's is at the top of the list on all counts, from varieties, to texture and flavor to the friendly service from whomever is behind the counter. You can get a cup, a flight, a cone, a shake, a banana split... And they have a freezer case near the counter for hand packed, ready to go pints. TIME FLIES AWAY AND NEVER COMES BACK: The freezer pints came in handy the first time I visited when I grabbed and paid for a couple (including huckleberry) to go because I started to cry and so needed to leave. The reason for my tears was this sweet scene: A pair of little children, brother and sister I assumed and about 5'ish years old, were with an older woman and one younger, grandmother and mom I assumed, who were patiently leading the little kids through the flavors as the teen-aged kid at the counter nicely waited on their order. Although the flavors were patiently explained, one of the kids continued to ask for one not there. "No, sweetie, they don't have bubble gum today. How about..." And so on for several options. "They don't have rocky road today, honey, how about..." As the scene played out tears started to creep down my cheeks. My mom had died two weeks prior, my grandmother long ago, and my brother who was just 10 months my junior died in a car accident a couple of decades ago but somehow with my mom's then recent passing as I stood inside Lovejoy's that day, it was then as if I could imagine this playing out with my brother, grandmother, mom and me as I remembered it as a kid myself. How could they all be gone, I wondered silently, and with the musing came the tears. KEY LEARNING: Enjoy ice cream with people you love while you can. BESIDES ICE CREAM: Lovejoy's sells local honey, maybe even from their own hives but of that I'm not sure, that sometimes also makes it into the ice cream. They also sell eats, like hot panini sandwiches and chips, but I'm there for the ice cream. SEATING: Inside here works for everyone, from the cute swing chairs by the front window to ample, standard height tables and chairs that can be used by people of all physical abilities and ages. OF NOTE: This Meridian Lovejoy' is their original flagship but they have just opened a new location in Boise in Bown Crossing. PARKING: The only negative is the parking lot for this little strip mall of shops which seems to have spaces designed in size for mid-sized cars in the Southern Meridian land of pick-up trucks and SUVs, as well as too few parking spaces at peak times and too few accessible (aka ADA) parking spots to meet code. If I could wave a magic wand I'd move it to a location nearer my home and with a better parking lot. ACCESSIBILITY: All on one floor, standard height tables, accessible loo. ADA parking spot right outside the front door but the lot is under scoped, that is it has too few of these, to meet ADA and Idaho code and this single spot seems always in use. NEIGHBORS: A marginal Chinese food eatery on one side and a not so good pub-bar on the other. WHAT'S IN A NAME?: From their back story: "Why Lovejoy's? To begin, I love the shop's name. The owners are one-thousand percent passionate about spreading both love and joy through their product. The name just sounds happy and we could always use a more of that. :) On to the goods. The ice cream is made is small batches right in the shop in all kinds of flavors. The first one that will catch your eye is Avocado. I sampled a little and YES, it does taste just like it, albeit I was more in the mood for something nostalgic. I decided to go with a small Butterfinger and dang did I choose GOOD! The ice cream is super creamy and packed with candy pieces and chocolate in every single bite. It was incredibly rich, smooth and refreshing! My size small was more than enough for two servings. It saved very well too. I stuck it in my freezer for 24 hours and it tasted just as great!
