This was one of the worst manicure experiences I have had. I needed to get my previous gel taken off and get another gel manicure. When I sat down, a lady started working on getting my gel off and she was being slow, so the manager came over and started doing my other hand and kicked the lady out of her seat to take over. The manager was so impatient. She wrapped my fingertips in foil and waited for literally 5 seconds before taking the foil off and trying to scrape the gel off of my fingers with a nail cleaner. Obviously, because she didn't let the acetone set, the gel wouldn't come off and she ended up scraping the tops of my nails and *peeling* the gel off! Then, she started cutting and filing my nails. She didn't ask what shape I wanted and just started cutting my nails square. What astonished me the most was that she then proceeded to paint my nails by slapping paint on and getting it all over my skin, and just using a brush with acetone on it to wipe off what all the paint she got on my skin! She did not even try to paint only on my nails. It got everywhere and my the time she finished, it just looked like a complete mess. There was still paint residue left on my skin and my nails had bumps in the coats. When I got home, I had to wipe off the paint on my fingertips since she didn't do it! I could have done my own nails with more care and precision than this! I will definitely not be coming back here.

Gel mani is already chipping 4 days later
    May S.

I first came here to get a regular pedicure and my polish lasted pretty long so I decided to come back to get a gel mani since they were decently priced. I came here on Friday morning to get my manicure and it's already chipping 4 days later. The owner did my nails and she did it so quickly and hastily. She wasn't even paying attention to the LED machine that she asked me to put my hand under and didn't even turn the light on until I asked her to. She only did one top coat and afterwards, for some reason, she filed down the edges, breaking the top coat seal. I'm pretty sure this is why my nails are chipping so quickly now. These gels are supposed to last 3 weeks, not 3 days. Extremely disappointing and a waste of money! You're better off just paying a few extra dollars and going somewhere else that will do a better job/ensure your nails last longer.

Excellent mani and pedi! Clean establishment and very professional. They were able to fit me in as a walk in. Popular place with locals! Highly recommend

I am so frustrated by my experience I feel like I needed to write a review. Mind you I still paid and tipped because I value their time but I'm a little annoyed I was even asked to pay. I tried this salon for a gel manicure for the first time because it has solid reviews and I totally regret it. My "keep them long, almond shape" was met with nails clipped short straight across, then filed unevenly. Unfortunately they're too short to get to the shape I want and honestly the woman who took over was barely better than the initial hack job. If you are at all particular about nail quality I can't recommend this salon. It's also pretty meh inside - no spa chairs or music or anything.

Helen knocks it out of the park every time. So far the only salon in West LA that can do beautiful nails in a timely, affordable matter and when I indulge in the occasional massage it's pure heaven Thanks everyone at Lovely Nails!!!

Super Awesome job !!! And a killer 10min shoulder n neck massage for $10 Only reasons I didn't give them 5 stars: CONS: parking ! Also..They took a bit longer than I expected ... 60min for a gel mani n reg pedi

Helen does a good job, but has the downright worst attitude. I mean, guys I can't stress this enough, truly the worst. I had her the first time and I couldn't tell if maybe there was a cultural disconnect and she didn't understand social niceties- or maybe I was interpreting her body language and behavior wrong. So I remained super nice and enthusiastic through the entire appointment. I liked the $30 gel manicure and it's in the same building as my office, so I gave it another go. Yikes! She made me so uncomfortable. Full disclosure, I am one of those people that you could set on fire using the cosmetic alcohol before I'd complain about the experience, and not everyone's having the "best day ever" everyday, but sheesh. Weird smirks, eye rolls, sighs- I honestly thought she was kidding at first. She acts like she has "absolutely had it with you" from the moment you walk in the door. Second appointment she pulled my hand out of the water bowl and spilled the water all over me (in my office clothes, on my lunch hour) and I was so nice about it, I was like "you can't even tell! No problem!" She didn't apologize, acted like it was my fault, grabbed towels and stuck them between me and the chair, took a deep breath and said "well" and just kept going. Weird, but okay. 20 minutes later I (very, very sweetly) asked her please not to make the coats too thick because I don't love it when my nails look super chunky, and she legitimately rolled her eyes and scoffed. Once the place started to get busier, it went from bad to worse. She rushed through the second half so quickly I had little parts of cotton swabs hanging off my nails. I almost declined the massage, but didn't want to be offensive - Kinda wish I had though cause she just slapped her hands on my arm all sloppily while looking away like she was massaging someone she truly loathed. The whole thing was just...confusing and uncomfortable. I'm almost laughing at how uncomfortable it was, in hindsight. So bizarre too because every single other person in there is wildly lovely and sweet. Listen, she does a good job and I honestly feel a little badly for her, sometimes the people that are miserable need it the most so I still tipped her $5 (usually I tip $8 on a gel mani, gotta pay it forward) but to be honest if you want this to be a chill happy relaxing appointment- go somewhere else mama. If all you care about is getting a good manicure, should be fine.

Axxium Gel (aka "color gel") - Day 1
    Malia H.

I found Lovely Nails a couple months ago by searching in Santa Monica/West Los Angeles for Axxium, which is a gel nail that is supposed to be better than acrylics. I absolutely loved the results the first couple times (see the pictures). The excitement faded a bit once I realized it was just as bad for your nails as acrylics, but I'm still enjoying the fact that it will not chip AT ALL for at least two weeks. Helen is always available when I want to come in, and is always careful and precise. Another thing I love about the "color gel," as they call it, is that you get the full manicure with it, so your hands look fantastic when you leave. This would definitely be what I would do if I had a wedding, or an important event, where I wanted to look perfect. Lovely Nails is located across the street from Ross and next to McDonalds. There is parking in the back or on the side streets. No parking on Wilshire from 4-7 pm. The waxing was excellent, too. I intend to try out the pedicure my next time.

Almost 1 week later and my mani still looks great!

Love this place! Comfortable chairs, friendly staff, good selection of colors (polish and gel)... the quality of their manis/pedis are also great, especially given how low their prices are! I see a lot of regulars when I'm there, which is also a good sign. The only thing I would change is that parking can be a little tough depending on the time of day, but there's not much they can do about that.

Love my nails! Hellen worked so fast and she was so kind!

Love how my nails turned out! I got my nails done by Hellen, she worked quickly! She was also very funny and kind.

Found this place when I first moved to LA. They are very nice and consistently to a great job. I am very particular with how I like my nails shaped and they do a great job for an amazing price. If you are going after work, forsure make an appointment! They get busy.

I went in thinking I could just jump right back in to the color, highlights and cut I used to have. Unfortunately, after that illness and age, my hair had irreversibly changed and was too weak to take the processes it would take to make my "fantasy" happen. Naz was honest with me, empathetic and kind..she gave me realistic suggestions and "held my hand" throughout, used products that actually helped my hair and educated me on how to use them. I didn't walk out with the fantasy, but I did walk out with healthy, beautiful hair with a great cut. My husband noticed my hair right away (after 20 years of marriage this is a rare occurrence) and thought it looked amazing. And at the end of the day, I felt great about my hair and that's how you want to feel when you walk out of the salon. I cannot recommend Naz and Salon Biology enough!

I recently purchased a 10-session package for $430. I only learned Alyssa was leaving because she casually mentioned it during one of my last appointments. As a client with a half-used prepaid package, I was never proactively notified, offered options, or told how my remaining services would be handled. To be fair, I genuinely tried to make the situation work. I even booked an appointment with one of the artists Alyssa personally recommended. Unfortunately, while they were kind, the results simply were not to my standards. That confirmed what I already knew: I purchased this package specifically because I trusted Alyssa's work--not simply because I wanted eyebrow threading. Feeling stuck, and without another solution, I requested a prorated refund of the unused package. I didn't ask for this refund because of any changes on my end. I requested one because the provider whose services I specifically prepaid for became unavailable indefinitely. Had Alyssa not left, I never would have requested a refund. Instead, I was expected to absorb the financial loss caused by circumstances entirely outside my control, which I believe was fundamentally unfair. Although Alyssa did agree to issue a partial refund, which I appreciate, she would only do so after retroactively repricing all of my completed appointments at the full individual session rate instead of the discounted package rate I had paid. As a result, my refund was substantially reduced. I would never have chosen to receive these services at the full individual session rate. I purchased the package because the discounted pricing reflected the value I was willing to pay. Retroactively converting completed appointments to the full retail rate fundamentally changes the financial agreement I originally accepted. I was told that Alyssa's policy only allows a package-rate refund if an artist "permanently leaves." However, "buying a one-way ticket", "planning to travel for over a year", and having "no return date"is, from a client's perspective, functionally no different. Expecting clients to leave hundreds of dollars with a business indefinitely in the hope that an artist may someday return is unreasonable and unfair. Unfortunately, this experience reflects what I now recognize as a broader pattern. When the studio transitioned to the Fresha booking app, I accidentally booked with a newly hired artist because I didn't realize the new system assigned providers differently than before. Of course, I was welcome to keep that appointment, but I am very particular about my eyebrows, and for several years Alyssa had been the only person I trusted to thread them. Rather than proceed with an artist I didn't know, I immediately explained the misunderstanding and chose to forgo the appointment and wait for Alyssa instead. Despite being a loyal client for years, there was no flexibility or grace for what was clearly an honest mistake during a confusing system transition, and I was still required to pay for an appointment I never received. I've also seen disheartening posts on her business instagram page where she appears to poke fun of clients who arrive late. While every business has the right to enforce a late policy, publicly ridiculing clients who support your business struck me as unprofessional and disappointing. Even as someone who was never once late to an appointment, I still found these posts to be incredibly off-putting. True customer service isn't only about offering clients a drink when they arrive. It is about showing respect for them in difficult situations, especially when your business can no longer fulfill its obligations. Although Alyssa's talent is undeniable, and I sincerely wish her the best with her travels, her talent doesn't excuse poor communication or unfair business practices. After six years of loyalty, I expected to be treated with far more transparency, fairness, and consideration than I received.
