My feet are in pain. I went in for a pedicure. Realized afterwards she cut my nails down to the skin. Didn't think much, maybe she saw something I didn't. About 30min after I left I couldn't walk. 02/05/2020 I live literally a block away and was too lazy to drive to Santa Monica Blvd, so decided to come here and to give them another chance. This time I was happier with the service but the final result is lacking, my gel manicure chipped off after only 5 days. Gel manicure supposed to last for 2-3 weeks. I walked in without an appointment and they were not busy at all so I didn't have to wait. I got pink gel manicure for $30, which is very reasonable. Any other nail salon in the area will charge you between $35 to $45 for gel manicure. Unfortunately, again I noticed their sanitary conditions. The lady who did my nails didn't wear any gloves and didn't wash her hands before taking care of me. The work surface on the manicure table was dirty, I wonder how often they clean it. Changing your nail color without shaping/filling is way cheaper; $8 for hands $10 for feet And just $20 to change your gel color. Again, that's not includes shaping and filling your nails. read more

Don't lie to me - if you don't have time, say you don't have time. Don't make me wait and then do a sloppy job. $31 for a regular mani/pedi is outrageous! Not to mention the lady kept jumping back and forth between other clients and answering the phone while doIng my mani. First and last time here. If they were honest and said they didn't have time for a walk in, I would have been much happier. Instead time was wasted and I have a crappy mani/pedi that I'll have to get redone. 2 star because the girl who did the pedi was trying to go fast and do a good job while her boss was rushing everyone. So I went to go get a mani pedi 3 months ago and the lady giving me a pedi cut my right side of toe nail saying I had an ingrown nail, but yet I didn't feel like it was ingrown, she cut it out and it grew back worse so I hadn't gone for a couple months. I was in a rush to get my nails done again and found it convenient for me to go to their nail salon again and same thing happened on left toe now which it wasn't ingrown or anything and now its been 3 days and I'm seeing it's swollen like the other one. I just got surgery on toe to fix what she did. I highly suggest no one goes here for pedis. If I was you I would definitely not come here for a pedi. read more

(This is a very late post.) I wanted to try this place out since it's a block away from work. I made an appointment and the process was smooth, the lady on the phone was easy to talk to. I parked in a lot behind the salon across the street from Vons and was seated right away since I made an appointment. I could tell who the lady was I talked to on the phone, as she was the one constantly answering the phone. I saw maybe 2-3 regulars and it looked like they were with their designated manicurists and it eased my mind that people came here regularly, assuming they did a great job. I came to get a gel manicure and regular pedicure. I wanted black matte for my nails. The manicurist I got was nice, but I could tell she didn't know what matte meant. The other ladies told her what it was and what to do. My pedicure was regular, and she did good with my toes. My gel manicure didn't come out nice. If you've gotten a gel manicure before, you'd definitely know what a bad job looks like. It was too thick and my nails look deformed. On top of that, no pun intended, she didn't put enough of the top coat to make it matte. (I didn't get to take pictures.) In the end, my deformed looking nails came out a regular shiny black and started chipping my nails. Since I didn't have cash for tip, I was told to take cash out and the lady in charge was extremely apologetic when I told her I'd walk to Vons to take cash out. I left her my driver's license so she'd know I'd come back. I honestly didn't mind doing this and this isn't why I'm only giving them 2 stars. I added an extra star because they do have good customer service. It's just that I do get my nails done often, and they didn't come out nice at all. The price is typical of all nail salons these days (around $70), but I definitely didn't think it was worth my money. read more

I go here every 2 weeks. I used to do my own nails. I was too embarrassed to go to the salon, because my nails were broken and would split constantly. That was until I heard about gel nails being the new craze. A couple of people even told me how gel made their nails stronger. But then there were the horror stories about get completely ruining ones nails and being an utter pain in the booty to take off. Well I plaid Russian roulette and decided to try it. Let me tell you, my nails for the first time in my life grow. They went from being short and ugly and splitting and looking like I have been gardening for my whole life to growing so damn fast I look like I have a nice set of Freddy Kruger claws. Today I was told they have NEVER done it for this price even after I showed the manager the transactions in my app. She even didn't recognize me. Hahaha, ok, good job. Stay away if you are looking for a clean & reasonable place to get your nails done. My first & LAST visit here. They quoted $27 for a pedicure. They wanted an extra $9 to do any foot care. I explained before I sat down that I was only interested in nails clipped, cuticles & usual foot care. I explained I would skip the polish for the time to be spent on doing a good job on basics. Both ladies nodded enthusiastically in agreement. The woman cut my nails way too short - they hurt (just like one of the reviews above)! When she started to towel dry my feet after clipping, she mumbled something I couldn't understand. Good thing I asked her to repeat. That's when I was told it would be $9 extra for any of the usual skin smoothing. I didn't need or ask for callous removal. That is the fastest nail I have ever done. You can imagine how bad are they! They don't have a good nail standard!!! Both me and my friend got tons of bubbles on all fingers. I went for gel nails. Although they are cheaper than other places i would not recommend. The lady was rough with filling and cut my skin twice as the nail file was very rough (which caused bleeding). The instruments where not clean and did not came out of a sealed package. After that, I returned twice in the following 5 days because the gel.polish was lifting off 3 nails. They where not happy that i returned and did a quick repair without taking much care. Although cheaper...its not worth it read more

I've found it very difficult to find a good place to get a pedicure on the west side and Modern Nails was no different. After waiting briefly for a pedicure chair to become available, I was able to soak my feet for a short time before the pedicure began. The job was cursory at best. She barely scrubbed my heels and the she tried to up-charge me for a special heel treatment, which I declined. When I requested that she spend a little more time on my heels, she refused at first, suggesting the special treatment again but when I declined again, she reluctantly scrubbed them for a few more seconds. The polishing wasn't any better. It was uneven and she missed a few places on the nails. When it was time to pay, I handed her my credit card and she requested cash. She then informed me that they charge $1 extra for credit cards... Well, that pedicure definitely wasn't worth $17 + $1. Previous reviewers have mentioned that Nghi is excellent so I may try this place again if I can manage to make an appointment with him. Otherwise, the search continues. read more

I was really concerned about pricing because a lot of nail salons charge more for pedicures but this place only charges $17.00 which is a steal! I walked in and the place is more narrow but still has a lot of room. It's by no means a flashy place but it's decorated tastefully, no tacky eighties paintings. They have a really large and good quality selection of polishes! The woman who worked on me seemed to be in a hurry as I've never had a faster pedicure but she didn't shape the nails evenly, they still look messy. Also, it looks like she didn't fully get rid of my cuticles. :( The technician also kept asking if I wanted additional services, I find that irritating but I understand that's how they make more money.
