I was in the area today and saw this place was a couple of doors down from where I needed some lab work, so popped in here to grab some food. I remember Loving Huts fondly back in NYC and have gone there before with friends for meals and always enjoyed. Today, when I walked in, place was empty and I was the only customer. I wanted a tofu banh mi and also ordered a slice of pandan cake. I waited for my order in their comfortable eating area and browsed around as they have merch for sale and plenty of books on vegan life and eating. I was a vegan about 10 years ago and since then, have loosened up my diet a little but I will say I still love places like Loving Hut. Deep down, I am a vegan but don't tell anyone...shhh... Banh mi is smaller than the traditional ones but very tasty and stuffed with lots of tofu, caramelized onions, pickled veggies and greens and minus veganaise. Pandan cake was ok, a little dry but the taste was good. I'll probably try to finish it soaked with a little oat milk. Overall, a good dining experience and will come back when I feel nostalgic for Loving Hut. read more

For awhile, I've wanted to try this location but it's 20 miles from my house. I've had it on my radar to try after one of the days I report in person to my office as I'm hybrid. Last week, I finally made my way there and absolutely loved it! The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating for my peanut/treenut allergy to ensure a safe dining experience. They were also patient while I looked through the menu to make my decision and offered their personal favorites. Once I placed my order, I began to look at the beautiful decor and atmosphere of the dining area. As well as continued to look at the vast menu of tantalizing vegan options - yum! Dining to fuel both your body and soul is something you don't find every day. Loving Hut lives up to its namesake in a couple different ways. Pay It Forward - Buy a future meal for someone in need. I was able to pick out a meal from the menu to purchase for someone in need to choose at a later time to provide a nutritious meal for them. In addition, they donate all food scraps to prevent food waste and help Better Piggies Rescue. As well as sponsoring piggies monthly as well. I have ordered from the Phoenix location once before, but this was my first time here and dining in. An all vegan restaurant makes my heart happy, but it makes it hard to choose what to order because I want to try everything! I ordered the oinks in a blanket, the crispy egg rolls, and the fried rice. It's been YEARS since I had pigs in a blanket, and these took me straight back to my childhood. The croissant was "buttery" and flaky, and the "hot dog" was thin but tasted like the real deal. Yum! The crispy egg rolls lived up to their name and were packed with filling. The fried rice was a huge portion, and again it brought me back to childhood. I haven't been able to order fried rice in forever, and the ham was good and again tasted like the real stuff (or as close as it could). Flavorful and delicious. Saving the rest for tomorrow. It's cafeteria style where you order at the counter and take a number and deliver it to the table, so I can't speak on service in the traditional sense. Almost everything I've ever had here was pretty bomb, but the viva vegana nachos were the WORST nachos I've ever had in my life, hands down. The tortilla chips were like those bland Kirkland strip nacho chips, and the cheese sauce seemed as if it was made by an alien who's never been to earth before that vaguely had cheese sauce explained to it, and then put it together. It had almost no flavor and was very liquidy, and this very fake light yellow color. I've had amazing vegan cheese from other places before, and this place had me a bit disappointed. The oinks in a blanket? 10/10. Hawaiian burger and regular burger? 9/10. Their seasoned fries are also super yummy. The pandan sweet cake is also really good. The short and sweet: if you're vegan and you've never eaten at a Loving Hut (it's a vegan chain but not all homogenized like a McDonald's, each one will have a slightly different menu and there are no standardized recipes across the chains), you've gotta try it at least once! It's not everyone's cup of tea but I greatly appreciate an establishment that chooses to be all vegan. It's typically Asian fusion food, with some American options like burgers/sandwiches. The salads tend to be super fresh as well. The long and detailed xD Normally I would give this place 4 stars but because I'd like to give some extra support to a fully vegan place I think they deserve a 5! It takes commitment and conviction to be a vegan establishment. I'd know, my family owned the first fully vegan restaurant in Pittsburgh, PA and worked it for 7 years, way before being vegan was "normal" My brother and I took my dad here because he's very strictly vegan and won't eat at a place that isn't fully vegan for spiritual reasons. When you walk in the menus are displayed and you order at the counter, pay, and then get a number to place at your table (indoor and outdoor availability). Water is self-serve. They also ask that you place your dishes into collection bins when finished. The workers here all seem very happy and have a nice energy to them! The place is also decorated nicely. It's super cute inside with greenery throughout and feels very clean. Dad ordered the pho, I got the bun hue (spicy noodle soup), and my brother got the pad Thai. Loving Huts in general tend to be big on using tofu and mock meats, so if soy is not your thing your options will be more limited or you'll have to ask for modifications. They're usually very willing to accommodate. The pho definitely satisfied my dad's craving! We all enjoyed our entrees and ate every single bite. The food is good, the service is good the ambiance is good. But for a vegan that is gluten and soy fee this isn't the place to go. That is why I give it 4 stars. Everything they have is made with either soy or gluten there isn't much else to get outside of those options unless you want nachos that are just chips with chopped lettuce and tomato. This was my first visit to Loving Hut on southern. It was a long drive from Peoria but their social media posts made me want to try them out. I love supporting all-vegan restaurants. They were open for dine in. The service was ok. I did not get the dressing for my entree and when I asked about it the server said it doesn't come with it, but then later returned with it and said he made a mistake. The food was good, like the other Loving Huts. It was not anything special that I would need to make a return visit for. I always stop at Loving Hut while I'm in Tempe. I was, however, a little disappointed in the serving size of my bowl this time. It was only 3/4 full instead of full to the top like it always was. Raise prices, don't cheat the customer out of what they're used to. I'll still continue to eat here because they have the best Curry on the planet! And I LOVE the way they help the homeless people in Tempe. We don't know why they are homeless and were not here to judge them. If you have a few extra dollars while you're in LH, donate a meal. My husband and I visited this restaurant for lunch right at 11am when they opened. It looked clean and the lady taking our order at the counter was very friendly and helpful giving us recommendations. We ordered the Spicy V-Pad Thai and Golden Beauty with a side of brown rice, grabbed a couple of glasses of water and sat inside. I looked at one of their vegan cooking books while waiting for the food which was ready in about 10 minutes. The place got pretty busy right after we placed our order with half of their indoor tables taken. There were also a few tables outside. The food was delicious!!! The pad Thai bowl was huge and all of the veggies were very fresh and crispy. The Golden Beauty's seasoning was very good and the spicy sauce that it came with was very much needed to compliment the dry fried chickless protein. The side of brown rice was about a cup and a half and we added soy sauce from one of the bottles available on the counter. I enjoyed the food at the downtown Tempe location but it's such a pain for me to get there so I was excited when I this new locale opened up where a wing place used to be. I've been meaning to go here for a while and I was really craving veggies so this was the perfect choice. Everything here is vegan and a lot of the items here have an Asian flair. Protein options include tofu, faux chicken, shrimp and beef. I opted for the "Be kind crispy noodle" dish to go. It was securely packaged in a cardboard box and a very generous portion. The description online says it contains "crispy-crunchy wheat noodles topped with our sautéed medley: BBQ beefless protein, tofu, broccoli, carrots, bok choy, cabbage, napa cabbage, onions, & our homemade sauces." I loved the combination of veggies, noodle, faux beef and delicious full flavored sauce. I really enjoyed that crispy crunch of the noodles and they were still super crispy after driving back home to eat it. It was a little hard to eat the noodles with the rest of the ingredients since they came in a big tangled fried mass but it wasn't too bad of an eating experience overall. A cute little detail is that they included some little slips of paper thanking me for being kind to the planet and animals by eating a vegan meal instead of a meaty one. Forgot to take pictures because I was HUNGRY and short on time - use your imagination. We had the golden beauty - succulent pieces of meat, served atop a fresh bed of lettuce with a side of white rice. Also had the old skool burger with seasoned fries. TL:DR - Beefless bbq bowl pretty mediocre when compared to it's meat based cousins. That being said, it is an absolute win for a vegan dish. The "beef" had a great sweet and spicy soy flavor and the portions were large. The "fish" sauce could have a little more flavor though. The packaged vegan jerky, was amazing. Similar to smoked jerky, it was soft and tore like real meat fibers. The absolute star of the show was the pandan cake. The most amazing icing. All in all, this place is a winner and this meat eater will be back. ------------------------------------------------------------- Visiting vegan places that do fake meat dishes is slowly becoming one of my favorite places to visit. Their ability to take non meat ingredients and make it taste just as good or better is always amazing and intriguing. I do try to eat vegan when I can for environmental reasons, so having mock meat options does make that transition easier. That being said, loving hut being an Asian focused establishment did pique my interest. Hitting this place up for lunch, I did get a bbq beefless noodle bowl, a bag of vegan jerky, and a slice of pandan cake. The bbq beefless bowl is their take on the Vietnamese vermicelli bowls with bbq meat and fish sauce. Comparing it to other vermicelli bowls, the bowl from loving hut was right in the middle. Not great, but not anywhere near the worst I've had, and the fact that it's completely vegan is a win. The portion was relatively large, but it was fine as the dish itself is inherently light. The beef was pretty good, softer and a tad chewier than regular meat, but had a good marinade to it. It was a big fibrous like real meat as well. I thought the fish sauce wasn't bad, but could have used a stronger flavor. It need more "fish" flavor to it. The vegan jerky was shockingly good. I'm pretty sure it was the same meat used in the vermicelli bowl, but as dry jerky is uncannily similar to smoked jerky that has a sweet and spicy soy flavor to it. It tears and chews like real jerky. The pandan cake, however, was 100% the star of the show. The flavor of the cake was a mix of almond, pistachio, and vanilla. So food, but the icing was out of this world. Super light, but still full of butter cream flavor. Absolutely gobsmacked. It's as if the cake was just there to accompany the icing more than the other way around. As with most vegan places, the food isn't cheap. All this ran me about $30. But it is delicious and worth the trip in my opinion. I will be back often. read more
