My and my wife enjoying the cocktails

LuauLarry was recommended for the Buffalo Milk & the Wiki Wack so of course we had to try it. We wanted to sit up front to people watch, they allowed us to wait for the perfect table facing the boardwalk. Our waitresswasted no time offering us drinks which after we order made it to our table within 5 minutes. The Buffalo Milk was great, couldnt taste the alcohol but that makes them dangerous. Whatever my wife had to earn the Wiki Wacker hat is what she had, she seemed to like it as it was gone in minutes. Not sure what the purplish drink was but it was dang good too. We didnt order alot of food, mainly came for the drinks but e erything we saw looked amazing. The atmosphere was full.of energy and fun, everyone seemed to be having a good time, you g and older alike. I can see why this place was recommended, next time we visit Catalina we will be back for the food for sure.

Luau Larry's is a must visit in Catalina Island. Good vibes, good hot dogs, amazing service and good people.

Our experience at Luau Larry's was good. The food was okay. The fish from the fish & chips was delicious and battered perfectly, but the fries were pretty bland. Definitely needed to add salt to them. The burger was good, but again the fries were very bland and needed salt. The drink was one of their most popular on the menu, but to me was just WAY too sweet for something called "spicy". The amount of sugar or whatever sweetness added in made the drink quite thick. Service was okay. Our server was nice but not very attentive to us, there was a food runner I believe that was even more attentive & was excellent! I wish I remembered her name because she was great! She checked in on us multiple times whereas our server did not check in once. The bartenders were nice & funny. The ambiance is nice, I love the loud music inside gives it more of a lit party vibe! I can understand if that's not everyone's cup of tea tho, but I loved it! We would give this place a 7 or 8 out of 10 & would probably try it out again!

We stopped by Luau Larry's for a quick snack and some drinks. The vibe was great: fun, lively, exactly what you want when you're on vacation and the service was solid too. Foodwise...mixed bag. We ordered half a dozen oysters, fries, and the Mexican shrimp cocktail. The fries were good, no complaints there. The oysters, though, were not good, and the Mexican shrimp cocktail was also a miss. Definitely disappointing and not something I'd order again. Now the drinks? Way better. We had the spicy Mexican lollipop and the dragon lemonade, and both were really good. I'd come back for drinks for sure and maybe try different food items, just not the ones we ordered. We saw people eating pizza and that looked delicious! Will try next time. Great atmosphere, great service just wish the food had matched the drinks.

All of the drinks are SO sweet. Tread carefully. They also weren't as high of quality as they should've been for the price. It's a cool themed bar, but definitely pricey.

STEPH JUDGEMENT: Festive spot for a casual meal. Some friends recommended that we try the Buffalo Milk here. Buffalo Milk, we recently discovered, is sort of the signature drink of Catalina Island. We decided to try this place for lunch and had a good time. It's a very touristy Tiki-themed place, as the name implies, complete with a "grotto" seating area. It's the kind of place that doesn't let you forget that you're on vacation, dammit! We ordered the following; - Deep Fried Combo for me (good-sized platter with fried clams, shrimp and fish, accompanied by fries and a good cole slaw) - Garden burger with curly fries for the hubby (he said it was good, but nothing extraordinary) - Luau Iced Tea (felt more like an electric lemonade than a Long Island iced tea, but good) - Buffalo Milk (very reminiscent of a Mudslide--delicious but can't say it packed a punch) Our server was very friendly and prompt, although it was quite busy--definitely a pro. We had a nice time; wouldn't be averse to visiting again.

Ambiance: 4/5 Service: 5/5 Food: Drinks: 4/5 Price: 4/5 Parking: Cute, local, tiki inspired bar in Catalina. Didn't have any food so didn't rate anything there. The whole area is walkable so no rating there either. Service was fast and the bartenders were great!

Busy tiki bar in Catalina with fun vibes, kitschy decor, great service, and fun drinks. Is it a little pricey for what it is? Yes, but that's Catalina for you! The coconut shrimp was fantastic and I got whichever drink gives you the fun hat and got to sit in the cave so I'm happy

Long story short, we got baited by their sign outside advertising a spicy lobster roll. Despite the fun atmosphere and friendly service, we just couldn't get past the subpar food. The fault likely falls on us, I know, but ugh, I couldn't help but feel disappointed with my meal. The lobster roll was ...literally just that. A roll with lobster pieces in it, with a slice of lemon and side of clarified butter. The "spicy" part was a jalapeno aioli drizzled over it. Note: it was not spicy. With soggy room temperature fries, It was all kinda cafeteria-esque, if I have to describe it in one word. The other people in our group felt the same about their dishes - buffalo burger, fish and chips, onion rings. Not bad, not great, just typical. Service was attentive and friendly, no complaints there. So as the 3 stars says - our experience was "OK". Yelp Adventures 2025 - 7 of ??

Hmmm was sorely disappointed in the food and service. The waiter acted differently when we said that we were not going to be drinking. Felt like they were trying to rush us out. It was not even very busy. Would not come back here

We were walking by when a waitress came out and welcomed us in for a dessert drink. Definitely a bar vibe, with drinks being central to the whole scene. We ended up having a drink plus onion rings. It was like having a hush puppy wrapped onions in a ring. Very thick and filling. But also had a very good flavor. They are made onsite and were delicious. We will be back!

Order the Wiki Wacker and get the hat! This was such a fun bar and had the best vibes in Avalon.

You can make reservations on Yelp, and there is also a Yelp live wait list. We visited during happy hour (Tuesday thru Friday from 4pm to 6pm) to take advantage of their food specials. We had the coconut shrimp ($12, but $7 during happy hour) which are always good. We also had some fries ($7, but $5 during happy hour). They were good and a generous portion. She wanted to try the vegan (cauliflower) salt & vinegar wings ($14, but $9 during happy hour). They were breaded and fried well, but had very little flavor. There was just a light sprinkle of a salt & vinegar seasoning. More salt and a dash of malt vinegar on them, or a side of malt vinegar would have made them a lot better. The happy hour food was a good value and got something in our stomachs. My first cocktail was the Wilderness Badge (Tequila, Lemongrass, Basil, Bergamot, Lemon, $17). This was by far my favorite. I love Italicus liqueur and this drink had great bergamot flavor up front with a light basil flavor from the basil infused tequila. It was very balanced and I would have never guessed this was a tequila based cocktail. She started out with the Sasquatch Sighting (Jamacian Overproof Rum, Cynar, Mango, Molasses, Lime, $17). This was balanced, with a light bitterness and light sweetness with mango flavor. Next, I tried The Lost Camper (Demerara Rum, Thai Green Tea, Pineapple, Coconut, Lime, $16). It was a pineapple bomb with a hint of coconut. I didn't like it at all and actually sent it back. I did think the skeleton arm and hand swizzle stick was cool. It is served with the hand at the bottom, but I took the picture with it sticking out. Instead, I had the Black Sands from the regular cocktail menu (Bali Hai Pineapple Rum, Diplomatica Reserve Rum, Pineapple, Orange, Guava, Lime, Coco, charcoal, $18). It is served with a flaming lime and sugar cube. I've had this several times and love it. It has a great funky complex flavor. Next, she had the Naked & Afraid (Mezcal, Campari, Smoked Pineapple, Serrano, Passionfruit, Lemon, $17). This was really good with a great complex mix of smoke and bitterness with a little heat. She gulped it down, and I was lucky to get a few sips. We decided to share the last new cocktail, the Scouts Honor (Vokda, Peach, Mandarin, Orgeat, Lime, $16) so we could say we tried them all. It looks nice with a bright orange color, but it was very sweet and peach forward with a hint of orange. Our server Crystal was great, very friendly and provided great service. We started collecting mugs recently, and we bought the Belly of the Beast Monstro mug ($62) to take home. BOTB is their Pinocchio themed speakeasy in the back (separate reservation required). They also have several other Stowaway branded mugs available. This visit was definitely better than our last few. As far as the five new Summer Camp cocktails, two were excellent, one was good, one was ok, and one was not good. The food was good, and is a great value during happy hour.

If you don't feel like a tiki drink they also have a few beers on tap or canned. PAINKILLER: Pussers navy rum, Pussers gunpowder rum, Goslings 151, coconut, pineapple, orange, bitters. This thing is strong! You can definitely taste the rums and 151, but at the same time the bartender was able to make it well-balanced and taste like a very good, but strong cocktail. ROYAL RATIONS (seasonal cocktail): Kuleana hui hui & agricole rums, hawaiian sun passion-orange, pineapple, lime, passionfruit 18. It sounded like something that I would enjoy, but I would skip this in the future and order the other drinks on their island classics or hula classics menu. Overall, I'm glad I checked out Hula Hula Room. Already planning my next visit to enjoy more of the drinks on the menu.

I got lucky and found a spot right out front on Anaheim Street. It shouldn't be too hard to find parking on nearby side streets. We visited on a weekday at 5pm and took advantage of their great happy hour, which runs all night on Monday and Tuesday, and from 3pm to 6pm Wednesday through Friday. Happy hour includes quite a few food specials, and $2 off tiki cocktails. They also have a tiki marketplace in the parking lot on the first Saturday of every month. We sat at the bar since we enjoy talking to the bartenders. Other seating options include a dining area in front with high top tables, and tiki hut booths behind the bar. The booth cushions are pretty beat up. They also have an open air patio out back with a lot of tables. There is another dining room between the patio and the front of the house that has minimal décor and mainly has murals on the walls. The overall tiki décor is somewhere between ok and good. The atmosphere feels like a neighborhood tiki bar with dive bar undertones. We started out with a few appetizers. The veggie egg rolls ($6 during happy hour) were good, and the sauce had a slight heat. We also had the shishito peppers ($8) which were a generous portion and had a very good unami sauce on them. I started out with the Fluffy Banana cocktail (White Rum, Cinnamon, Lemon, Coconut, Banana Liqueur, Bitters, $13 minus $2 happy hour discount). It had a great foam top rising above the edge of the glass. It was balanced with a light to medium sweetness, with coconut up front and banana underneath. She started out with the Bye Bye Ladies (Pineapple, Coconut Cream, Lemon, Tito's Vodka, Trader Vic's Macadamia Nut Liqueur, Shaved Macadamia Nut, $14 minus $2 happy hour discount). This was balanced, but on the much sweeter side with coconut and pineapple up front, with a little macadamia in the background. We ordered more food, and I had the Bamboo Classic Burger ($10 during happy hour). This was a solid tasty burger, and came with a healthy portion of french fries. She had the BBQ pulled jackfruit sandwich ($18). It is nice that they have some vegetarian options on the menu, and she enjoyed it. The Shoyu BBQ sauce had a little spiciness, and the coconut chili slaw definitely had some heat. Next, I had the Fire Walker (Del Maguey Mezcal, Lime, Pineapple, Passion Fruit, Falernum, Habanero Bitters, $14 minus $2 happy hour discount). The mezcal was a little bolder than I usually like, but it was good with light passion fruit flavor, and a nice kick from the habanero bitters. Her second drink was the Monkey Pod (Ron Del Barrilto Rum, Lime, Tamarind, Coconut, $13 minus $2 happy hour discount). It was balanced with tamarind and lime up front with coconut in the background. We had one last round and I got the Dr. Bamboo (Dr. Bird Jamaican Rum, 151 Rum, All-Spice, Prickly Pear, Cinnamon, $16). This one was my favorite. It is a little boozy, but balanced and lush with good allspice and pear flavor. It also feels like a generous pour. Her last cocktail was the Jungle Bird (Caruba Dark Jamaican Rum, Lime, Pineapple, Coconut Washed Campari, $14 minus $2 happy hour discount). This was also very good, and their version isn't as bitter as most. Our bartender Steph was awesome. He was very friendly, had great knowledge of the cocktail menu, and provided great service. He even let us try a little sample of one of his drink concoctions he was working on. Our evening here during happy hour was an absolute bargain. We had two appetizers, two entrees, and six cocktails, and the bill was just a bit over $100. One negative is that the men's room behind the bar is kind of gross and feels very inconsistent with the rest of the bar. It's very punk with stickers all over and it stinks. The bottom line is that the food and drinks are pretty good, and they're an excellent value during happy hour. Service was great, and the atmosphere is ok. We would definitely return during happy hour.

The place itself was very tropical, and picturesque! We didn't have a reservation, and the hostess told us it would be a 45 minute wait, but luckily we were seated within 20 mins. I don't know how much Parking usually is, but the parking was out of control that day. We paid $45 to park down the street. The food was all VERY delicious. I would say the portion size is on the smaller end. I only had a party of 3, so it worked out for us. We shared a few apps, Spicy Tuna Sticky Rice, Cold Edamame, Teriyaki Burger, Fries, Chicken bites and the poke bowl. Everything tasted fresh, and we loved the fries, they were so crispy and that truffle aioli. Service was fast and easy. We sat chatting for hours and weren't bothered at all.. We would come back for drinks and apps!

The lighting and the sound system was on point with other great venues. This was my first visit to the Tiki Bar. Parking is limited and I had to find street parking a couple blocks away but no issues there. Prices were great, some venues like to gouge you for drinks. $9 for well cocktails $5 for bottled beer. You can't beat that in most venues. Compared to HOB it was a steal and the same level of music and people. Smeller venue but great sound, great energy and great people. Prior reviews that said bright lights and bad drinks I did not experience that at all. The tiki vibe is admittingly lacking there's a sparse amount of tiki related decor but the tiki drink I got was great and strong and cheap! What more can you ask for. The crowd was great except they all scattered like cockroaches when the music ended LOL!

I handed her $20 and she repeated "$24". I told her I just gave you a $20 -she said no. I had just taken out $80 from their ATM so I know it wasn't in my wallet because I only had $60. I canceled the quesadilla And said screw it- paid her the extra $20. So basically $29 for 3 street tacos. And went in my way. She is sneaky. Probably gets away with this on buzzed dudes in the bar.

Their website teases that food is coming soon. It is a fairly small place and I would definitely recommend making a reservation on Yelp. If there are no reservations available when you want to visit, they also have a Yelp live waitlist. The building has its own parking lot with about ten spaces and is shared with the sushi speakeasy upstairs. We arrived around 6:30pm on a Sunday night, and luckily there were still quite a few spaces available. A half hour later, the place was packed. The outside of the building is not marked. Enter through the red double doors in front, walk to the right, and the entrance will be easy to spot. Seating options include eight seats at the bar, four high-top tables in the main area that seat four people each, and a slightly raised grotto area with one four-seat table and two two-seat tables. We often like to sit at the bar, but I reserved a table in the grotto so we could get the full experience and I'm glad I did. The interior has great décor with a mix of tiki and pirate ship elements. The walls are wooden plank, with cargo netting, ropes, and tiki lights above. The walls have portraits of Goonies movie characters. Take two steps up to the grotto area, and you are inside of a cave with skulls, shells, and treasures embedded in the cave walls. There is also a small waterfall in the corner. Scan the QR code on the table for the cocktail menu. It is colorful and many of the drinks have names tied to The Goonies. Each drink also has zero, one, or two skulls next to it to indicate the booziness factor. They have quite a few original cocktails as well as classic tiki drinks, a few mocktails, spirits, beer, and wine. I started out with the Ash Landing (Hamilton Pot Still Blonde Rum, Hamilton 86 Demerara Rum, Hamilton Pimento Dram, Angostura Bitters, Pineapple, Lime, Ginger, One Skull booziness, $14). This was definitely a little on the boozy side, with good ginger flavor and the pineapple and lime in the background. She started out with the One-Eyed Willy (Pou Vodka, Lychee, Guava, Coconut, Sweet & Sour, $15, keep the mug for $65). It is rare that a vodka drink is my favorite of the night, but this was both of our favorites. It was very balanced and juicy, and not boozy at all. The guava, coconut, and citrus from the sweet and sour were all there. We bought the mug, and they bring you a new one in original packaging. The purchased mug is colored a little differently (blue instead of black) than the mug the drink is served it, but it still looks great. While walking around taking pictures, I ran into our server and mentioned that it was my girlfriend's birthday. He kindly brought us some shots on the house. He said it was a recipe they had for shots during Halloween, and it tasted like a spin on a kamikaze. It was very good and much appreciated. I have a hard time resisting a cool mug, so for my second drink I ordered the Slick Shoes (Planteray Pineapple Rum, Worthy Park Rum, Bounty Dark Rum, Strawberry, Papaya, Lime Juice, $17). It is served in a cool sneaker mug with a flaming lime half on top. It was nicely balanced and just a tiny bit boozy. It had a nice light fruit flavor, not overly sweet at all. I think it is sometimes served in a regular glass, so if you order it, be sure to ask for the sneaker mug. Her second cocktail was the Never Say Die (Producer Mezcal, Kiwi, Lemon, Mango, Grilled Pineapple, $14). The smokiness of the mezcal was on the hairy edge of being too smoky for me, but she loved it. She could taste the kiwi and mango. We shared one last drink, the Garden of Eden (Papa's Pilar Blonde Rum, Lavender, Lemon, Elderflower, Cucumber Bitters, One Skull booziness, $17). It had an interesting (good) floral flavor profile, and didn't strike me as boozy at all. I could definitely taste the cucumber notes from the bitters. There was good 80s music playing in the background. It's a Goonies themed bar, I get it, but we would have enjoyed a few tiki songs in the mix too. There is one unisex restroom out in the lobby area. It is nice that they also themed it with wooden plank on the walls and ceiling, and some nautical décor. Daniel was our server and was very friendly and provided great service. Thanks again Daniel for the birthday shots! Bartender Felipe also delivered one round of our drinks and was also very friendly. All of the drinks were good and there are definitely more on the menu that we would like to return and try. We had a real fun time, thanks Lost Inferno!

I made reservations in advance, which ensured that we were seated indoors. The decor is a mash up of tiki and pirate and the restaurant totally feels like it could be part of the Pirates of the Caribbean. I am not a fan of overly sweet drinks, so our server recommended the Navy Grog, which was perfect. It was my husband's birthday so he got a complimentary shot along with his Mai Tai. They ask you about food allergies when you check in, so the servers already know what to look out for when you order. My daughter has a shellfish allergy, which she didn't offer up at check in, but our server diligently checked to see what type of shellfish was used in the dish she wanted. I ordered a couple of appetizers - Hawaiian garlic shrimp and the Korean braised pork tacos. The shrimp were delicious and came with bread to mop up that delectable sauce. I wasn't expecting much from the Korean braised pork tacos, but those wound up to be my favorite (though the pancake was a little greasy). The pan-seared scallops were nicely done. The weakest dish was the crispy pork ribs - a little on the dry side and could have used a bit more sauce. It was a fun night out. Definitely sit inside if you can. It may be dark but I feel like the outside seating loses out on the tiki experience. Validated 2-hour parking in the public garage. You have to sign up for an account on your phone and then scan the QR code for validation but it's pretty seamless.
