Ordered a meal through a delivery service, when my dasher arrived they were told half of the items I had ordered were not available so I had to substitute items over the phone. Biggest disappointment however was that the dessert ordered had whipped topping instead of a real whipped cream topping. You probably know about Luby's. If not, it's a popular cafeteria/buffet style restaurant that serves a wide variety of American/Americanized dishes. It's especially enjoyed by elderly due the amount of options, retro feel, and senior specials. You will take a tray and walk through the line choosing what you want out of the food in front of you. Luby's has a very large selection of items, which is great because almost anyone you take there can find something suitable. Luby's is a jack of all trades, master of none. I enjoy the food for the most part, but I would classify it all as generally good, sometimes bad, never great. Nothing will make your slap yo momma, but the staples have always left me satisfied; for example, the meatloaf, chicken fried steak, fried fish, loaded mashed potatoes, fried okra, mac and cheese, etc. The specialty items can be hit or miss; the chicken picatta in the attached picture as an example. Another thing to note is the food isn't particularly healthy and never screams organic or high quality. It does, however, almost always leave you content and feeling like your grandma was back there in the kitchen. Overall, the draw to Luby's is its iconic and homey feel, plethora of American-style options, and various discounts/specials. I would recommend you try it out and see what you think, but it may take a few tries to get a good grasp of the options. We had lunch at this Luby's about a month ago when visiting San Antonio. It was wonderful! Starting with the staff who were so helpful. The food was delicious, we really enjoyed our meal. The restaurant was clean and bright with lots of natural light. I have missed the old fashioned service, good food and the familiar feeling of Luby's. I went to the Drive through with my friend for lunch on Fredericksburg Dr in Balcones Heights. We were told one item would take 12 minutes to cook. Please wait for it in to go When we finally got our order, not only did I Not receive my order I waited for, my friend did not get half her order! I paid over $23. In the bag, there's a paper (not a receipt) that tells the person who brings out the food what should be in the bag. When we called for a refund for the items not in the bag , (almost $10), we were told to come back...a 20 minute drive We had a long morning & were starving. I visited the restaurant on Sunday after service with my church crew. I asked the line servers that assisted me if the items I selected had soy or gluten in them, as I'm allergic. I was assured the chopped meat and plain mash potatoes were gluten and soy free. I ate my meal and suffered an allergic reaction due to undisclosed allergens in my selected food. I reported my incident with the restaurant and they didn't even bother to check on my situation. The manager acted bothered and frustrated that he had to deal with me after his staffs carelessness caused me to suffer a medical emergency. I've contacted the corporate office and of course no one answers the phone. If you have any food allergies DO NOT EAT HERE!! Your health and life are not worth one cafeteria meal. On November 13, 2025, I placed a holiday order (Order #1114545) for pickup at your San Antonio (4541 Fredericksburg Rd) location. The order included a roasted turkey breast meal and a sliced baked ham. I contacted your restaurant ahead of time to change the pickup date to the day before Thanksgiving. I spoke with employees twice and also with a manager, all of whom assured me the date was changed. When I arrived for pickup on the revised date, your staff could not locate my order. After a confusing and disorganized process, including being directed to park, wait, and re-enter the store multiple times, the manager ultimately produced the order. Because of poor traffic flow and lack of guidance, I inadvertently backed into a dumpster, damaging my car. I only discovered the damage after driving off from the restaurant. Upon arriving home, I found that while the turkey meal was present, the additional ham I had paid for was missing. The entire experience caused me significant stress, emotional distress, and financial cost (car damage + missing paid-for item), especially being so close to Thanksgiving while preparing for travel. Here is what I request as a fair resolution: 1. A refund for the missing sliced ham. 2. Some form of acknowledgment or compensation for the distress and inconvenience...for example, a gift card or voucher equal to the ham or more, if possible. 3. A review/improvement of your order-pickup process at the 4541 Fredericksburg Rd location to prevent this from happening to other customers. read more

Luby's was a family favorite for many years when our kids were little. We discovered that there were still 5 locations around town, so we decided tonight to check out one of the earliest stores. Arrived at 6:00 on a Saturday night and thought it would not be busy. Boy, was that a bad assumption! The place was JUMPING - line of multi-generational families was out the door! Line moved along smoothly, giving us plenty of time to choose from all of our old favorites. We ordered plates of yummy fish, cheese steak, and chicken along with plenty of veggies and salads and those ROLLS! Everything was ALMOST as good as we remembered from the past. Fresh, tasty, generous portions. We finished our meal and just relaxed and continued our conversation with friends for 1.5 hours! No rush to turn the table, drinks were refilled when needed. 01/09/23 We haven't eaten at a Luby's in some time. Sad to say it's not the pleasant experience it used to be. I guess they've not recovered (or don't want to) from COVID and all that brought. The salads and desserts are packaged in plastic to-go containers. There are two tiers of Luann platters. One at $8.99, one at $10.99. The entree, two sides and a roll. I went a la cart. A salad, dressing, chocolate pudding (quite good) and jalapeño cornbread (muy hot), with a tea. Their iced tea is still stellar. Husband had the trout almondine, peas, new potatoes, a salad and apple pie with tea. Hungry boy! All of this was $31. Not the cheapest. One thing about Luby's is that it's not cheap, both in price and quality. For a full entree, two sides, a drink (and you can't pass up their desserts), it's gonna be over 10 bucks. But then again so are lesser restaurants like Applebee's and TGIFriday's. A Luanne platter (name of Hank's niece in King of the Hill) with half an entree is always a budget-conscience option, but not enough food for me. That said, there's a reason Luby's is still around. It's been years since I've eaten at Luby's. I stopped at this location on Fredericksburg Rd since it's close to one of the hospitals I have to go to. The menu is simple, hit or miss depending on what you decide to get. My brother ordered the chicken fried steak which was a mound of thick breading encasing a small piece of steak. My brother's wife ordered the tilapia which she liked the tilapia was a decent size piece of fish. I ordered the Luann platter of liver and onions, since I like liver and it's hard to find when I don't want to make it at home. The Luann platter of liver came with two pieces of very thin liver that was a bit dry, taste was fine. The mashed potatoes with brown gravy and green beans were good. The serving line seemed a bit chaotic, the cashier line was very slow and service all around could use some work. Definitely not the way I remember Luby's. read more

They saved our Thanksgiving! Also they saved a lot of ppls Thanksgiving. But the food did not dip in quality and they treated me as if I was the only person in line when it was obviously not the case. A+ service A+ food and A+ everything. It's been a few months since we've been to Luby's at the Fredericksburg location in San Antonio. This week, my wife suggested that we go back and eat there for dinner. The place was not as crowded pre-pandemic but there were a few people there when we arrived. Their cafeteria food is good - not excellent but you expect that for a place like this. Now, we've been coming to this location since the 1980's so we're very familiar with their food. My wife wanted the enchilada because they happen to be serving it that day. I choose their roast beef or pot roast with our 2 favorite side dishes and a roll. For the both of us, our bill came to about $25.00. It's not bad, because it brought back memories for my wife who apparently used to eat the enchilada here when she would go there with her parents when she was young. The reason we go to Luby's after all these years is because their food is good old comfort food, it's the nostalgic pull of the past and the reasonable cost to eat there. The ambience of the place is not top notch but for lunch or early dinner, the convenience is hard to beat. read more
