We came here for my dad's 87th birthday and they accommodated all of us in one section. The server was very kind and attentive to all our needs. The food was good and fresh. The lobby was clean and noise was average. We will be coming back. Thank you for reading.

You probably know about Luby's. If not, it's a popular cafeteria/buffet style restaurant that serves a wide variety of American/Americanized dishes. It's especially enjoyed by elderly due the amount of options, retro feel, and senior specials. You will take a tray and walk through the line choosing what you want out of the food in front of you. Luby's has a very large selection of items, which is great because almost anyone you take there can find something suitable. Luby's is a jack of all trades, master of none. I enjoy the food for the most part, but I would classify it all as generally good, sometimes bad, never great. Nothing will make your slap yo momma, but the staples have always left me satisfied; for example, the meatloaf, chicken fried steak, fried fish, loaded mashed potatoes, fried okra, mac and cheese, etc. The specialty items can be hit or miss; the chicken picatta in the attached picture as an example. Another thing to note is the food isn't particularly healthy and never screams organic or high quality. It does, however, almost always leave you content and feeling like your grandma was back there in the kitchen. Overall, the draw to Luby's is its iconic and homey feel, plethora of American-style options, and various discounts/specials. I would recommend you try it out and see what you think, but it may take a few tries to get a good grasp of the options. Established in 1947 in the Lone Star State, Luby's is a longstanding restaurant for a reason, and it's here to stay.

I haven't been to Luby's in years and I do not know why. It was amazing! I am going back tomorrow because the fried fish looks so good. My nostalgic go to is the meatloaf which I had with mashed potatoes, brown gravy, string beans and key lime pie. The folks at this Fredericksburg Rd location were so friendly and helpful.

Allergic reaction to undisclosed allergens in meal

I visited the restaurant on Sunday after service with my church crew. I asked the line servers that assisted me if the items I selected had soy or gluten in them, as I'm allergic. I was assured the chopped meat and plain mash potatoes were gluten and soy free. I ate my meal and suffered an allergic reaction due to undisclosed allergens in my selected food. I reported my incident with the restaurant and they didn't even bother to check on my situation. The manager acted bothered and frustrated that he had to deal with me after his staffs carelessness caused me to suffer a medical emergency. I've contacted the corporate office and of course no one answers the phone. If you have any food allergies DO NOT EAT HERE!! Your health and life are not worth one cafeteria meal. Oh, and I've attached a copy of their BBB rating..... Spoiler alert: it's an F of course!

Luby's was a family favorite for many years when our kids were little. We discovered that there were still 5 locations around town, so we decided tonight to check out one of the earliest stores. Arrived at 6:00 on a Saturday night and thought it would not be busy. Boy, was that a bad assumption! The place was JUMPING - line of multi-generational families was out the door! Line moved along smoothly, giving us plenty of time to choose from all of our old favorites. We ordered plates of yummy fish, cheese steak, and chicken along with plenty of veggies and salads and those ROLLS! Everything was ALMOST as good as we remembered from the past. Fresh, tasty, generous portions. We finished our meal and just relaxed and continued our conversation with friends for 1.5 hours! No rush to turn the table, drinks were refilled when needed. Very pleasant environment - even the decor IS outdated!

I'm a Lubys LOVER. I'm so sad they closed all the ones near me but today I found myself near one and I had to go. It's been a few months, if not longer, that I have been and it's just as good as always. It's the comfort food and I love that about Lubys. My food was hot and cooked perfectly, sometimes they can be a little light on salt but today was perfect.

The variety of choices at Luby's will have your Taste Buds Happy

It's a little expensive, even for a weekend. You would expect more and better choices for the prices we paid. About $80 for two adults and a midget. They had your typical fare. The least favs-ribs(tough/dry and no flavor), steak(tough and under seasoned), steam buns(the filling just no), bourbon chicken(dry chicken and not enough sauce), and the consensus least fav were all the desserts. There was flying bugs, and everything was super dry and tasted old. I get it, what do expect for a Chinese buffet in San Antonio? Well I expect no flying insects in the desserts for the price I paid. Also, 75 % of the fruit we got was as tough as the steak. Oh, and the cold shrimp, either overcooked or thawed the wrong way. The shell was practically glued on. The positives-all the rice and noodle dishes were good to ok. The hot and sour soup was really good! The teriyaki chicken was actually good. The bigger sauced rib was good. The kimchi was some of the better we've had recently. The spring rolls with peanut were good. The two fish dishes we had(fried and not fried) were actually quite nice. All the breads were good. The waitress was very nice and attentive. Almost forgot, the bathrooms were kinda gross. They need to be kept clean. Will not come back again.

The buffet options are good, but their general tso's chicken is not the best (and I judge how good overall Chinese buffets on this lol). A surprise hit is the sautéed green beans, which are perfectly cooked and garlicky--just like how you'd find it traditionally cooked in Chinese cuisine. I also think they're deep fried (salt and pepper?) shrimp (next to the crawfish) is very delicious. Plates are cleared pretty quickly and the buffet space is kept orderly and decently clean.

His only complaint before we even sat down was that it wasn't all you can drink. Fair concern. Thirty dollars for the dinner menu. Fair play. That is about standard across the city. The real question is whether you can actually make it worth it. I started strong. Ten salmon nigiri. Ten tuna. Four shrimp. A couple white tuna. A couple yellowtail. Across the table, Jimmy didn't say much. Just kept eating. That's usually how you know things are going well. At some point it stops feeling like dinner and starts feeling like a bit of a challenge.
