They were helpful but I got the feeling they were trying to upswell a bunch of stuff I really didn't need. After all my car is old and did I really need a full service? I don't think so I just wanted my tire changed not a 1200 estimate. In any case they changed my tire and months later my car is still going strong without all the stuff they tried to upswell me. read more

BEWARE MAJOR RIP OFFS. I went to get my tires rotated and an oil change. I dropped my car off for the day. I got a voicemail saying I needed a new air filter. Without me talking to them and confirming it was okay to do the extra work, they replaced the air and cabin filter. When I got there they said they could take it all out if I didn't want it, but they already did it. Who has time to wait for them to redo work I didn't ask for? I got charged an extra $70 for that plus whatever labor fee they add on top of that. read more

We've been going to Lucey's for years when we've had a sudden problem with a car, usually something urgent. Recently I took in our Honda because of a dead battery and I assumed the battery needed replacement. It turns out we'd left the dome light on overnight and the battery simply needed recharging. They could have told me the battery needed replacement (and charged me more money) and I wouldn't have known the difference. I really appreciated their honesty. I choose Lucey's because it's normally a friendly full-service station that sometimes even cleans my windshield when I fill-up. I went to buy gas there today. After about a minute a guy came out and decided to fuel 2 other cars that had both pulled-in after me. I can buy gas anywhere - sorry guys you lost my business today and forever. They'll do what needs to be done, always check with you if they see something else; they'll admit to mistakes and promptly correct. We stopped by for gas, and they looked at a problem with our car. We got the brakes done there and it was very reasonably priced, they did great work, and came up with great ways to solve other problems with our car. Fair prices and I like how they treated us. My husband and I have lived in Melrose since 1998 and immediately starting using Lucy's as our gas station and shortly after as our primary car maintenance and repair service. Gary and Steve (and can't leave out Mike) have always accommodated us in any work needed to be done in terms of our busy work schedules, always friendly and willing to explain. We have always appreciated their calling and suggesting any repairs they felt needed to be done,especially for our safety. Recently , my car didn't pass inspection at the 11th hour. Steve felt my frustration, and with his team, completed the work needed to be done, and got the inspection for me, all within the 50 minutes of closing time at the inspection station ,so I didn't have to arrange a new schedule to accomplish this. Had what I thought was a vehicle emergency today and found Lucey's here on yelp. The only review gave them a 5 star rating so I gave them a call. I talked to Steve on the phone and he had a very pleasant voice and offered to drive me back home and then come back and get me . Within less than an hour I had my truck back and it was nowhere near as bad as I thought. I would recommend them to anyone! read more

Local family business, been around for years, know what they are doing. No surprises, they always give me a call before doing anything unexpected. Most of the townies come here for brake jobs, etc. and the word is always good. They know what they are doing, and I have always been satisfied. I always talk to Steve, very good guy! read more

This place is not that great. I don't know who would give them all those stars -- unless it is the owners. Things are fixed but half-a_ _ed. Particularly galling is the way they charge for work that was not done. They will put it on your bill and say, "We'll get it done next time!" They won't rip you off too badly, but you'll still get ripped off. There are better repair shops around in the area. read more

They rip you off. I originally went for a starter issue-cost me 500 bux. A month or 2 later, my car wouldn't start again. Got charged 99 bux in labor and 1 dollar for the part(ground wire). God knows if I even needed a new starter in the first place. I go back for a tune-up plus a couple extra things (clinking noise and a noise that sounded like air was rushing into my car). I get a call quoted 800 bux for everything(struts, muffler which I never heard a noise, new oil, and a few misc). I get a call the next morning saying he was wrong and price will be 1500 or so. After we talk more, he says GeE can do it for about 1k. Later that day or the next day, he says I need a tire alignment for safety(hard to say no). So everything costs me 1320. Well after a couple of days, I realize that the 2 of the main reasons I went to the mechanic (air noise and clinking) are both there. 1300 bux later and still both problems are there. I called them and they were not helpful. Ripped off. Not going back to them. Take your car elsewhere!! read more

Not only are the servicemen at this just really nice people, every time I bring my car there, they take the time to really investigate the problem. In my last visit, they did not hesitate to throw it up on the lift (at closing time) and then jump in the car and take it for an extensive test drive on the spot. Also, in this case, they had to correct some of the problems from another garage. I had previously taken my car to another service station in Melrose that was actually making my car's problems worse. I had taken it back and forth to this other garage that I did not trust; Lucey's went above and beyond to call the manufacturer of the part to see if they could exchange the part for me even though they did not originally buy the part. In the end, they took my car, found several exhaust leaks (not taken care of). I would highly recommend this garage. Great to work with. Honest and trustworthy. Those people with sub par reviews probably don't frequent the location. It's also the only place I get gas. Who doesn't like to go somewhere where they remember you. read more
