Actress Lucia Moniz from Love Actually made Colin Firth go from speaking English to learning Portuguese. Well Lucia's Berkeley will have you practice from English to Italian. You can experience some artisan pizzas, fine wines, and some traditional favorites. Remember Santa Lucia (a northern Italian province) as you dine with some friends and family and be sure to try something new as you practice some new Italian words.

My husband tries to eat gluten free so we were excited to try this place. I ordered the arugula salad yo start that has shaved goat cheese, strawberries, nuts and fennel I believe. It was yummy! He got the potato soup to start, and tasted home made. Very good. Our entree was the gluten free Margherita pizza. Let me tell you, this crust was unbelievable. I could NOT tell it was gluten free. It was fluffy, light and savory. Mind blown! This is a must go for any gluten free folks. Perfect pizza! Our friends got the. Quattro formaggi pizza and they loved it. We ordered the white chocolate cake for dessert and I did not taste any white chocolate, only almonds. It was only so so. Dry, so the ice cream was needed. Service was fast and friendly. The location is perfect in Berkeley, close to lots of cool stores in downtown. I highly recommend their pizza!!

What's life without pasta? I really don't want to know unless I happen to be on a weight control regimen and counting carbs and calories. That's when I realize lettuce is greatly overrated. But sometimes you just have to succumb to your temptations, and Jamie W and I had been meaning to try this place for a while. I think we got turned away at least twice before. We finally made it in and noticed right away that the wood-fired Neapolitan pizza was what most people appear to gorge on. It was no wonder because it looked good. However, we had pasta on the brain. Jamie went for the $24 Tagliatelle alla Bolognese, which looked to replace the pappardelle on the menu (photo: https://yelp.to/Ria0ys2-ZJ). Of course it was delicious as the familiar tomato-based meat sauce didn't fail to satisfy. I ordered the $21 Trofie al Pesto based on a faded recollection I had of the dish in the Cinque Terre on a terrace overlooking the little harbor in Vernazza.over twenty years prior. The execution was exactly the same because it's a standard dish in Ligurian cuisine (photo: https://yelp.to/jYzmK688-w). Trofie is a thin and twisty pasta, and when the pesto is done right as it was here, it sticks to the pasta easily. Good pasta. Worth the calories. FOOD - 4 stars...handmade pasta well executed AMBIANCE - 4 stars...spirited atmosphere in here SERVICE - 4 stars...our server was first-rate though the host in front was rather curt TOTAL - 4 stars...pasta fix satisfied RELATED - Exploring Berkeley? The food was EXCEPTIONAL!!! I highly recommend ordering a Roy Rogers as your choice of beverage. I'm a bit of a connoisseur, and Lucia's had the best Roy Rogers I've had at any restaurant, outshining MAMA's (Oakland) Boylan "Black Cherry." This drink deserves a spot on the menu as one of the standout beverages at Lucia's. I could rave about it for years. On top of that, my friends and I showed up 20 minutes prior to opening, having driven in from two hours away, and the owner was incredibly kind; he squeezed us in. His incredible character made a lasting impression throughout our time as guests in his restaurant, and it was a gratifying experience. I can't wait to go back! Don't forget to order the Roy Rogers!

I think Lucia's is one of the best pizzas in Berkeley but we had a distasteful experience with the hostess last time and won't be back. I emailed them directly to share the feedback but they didn't respond, so I guess they don't care that they are rude! My husband experienced rude / passive aggressive behavior from the hostess. Our friends arrived first and were told the table would be 5 min, no problem, they were early. Later we arrive, and it's now been 15 min. No problem, but my husband went in just to check because our friends were wondering. The hostess said they are cleaning the table and as my husband leaves she mutters behind his back "it's only 6:35" in a clearly exasperated tone. My husband wasn't rude or making any issues, but it made him feel bad that he was asking a genuine question. It sucks because we've been 7 or 8 times and just want a nice meal and are always polite to them. But they aren't polite to us and made my husband feel bad and ruined what should've been a nice dinner. Sad to not return anymore and I hope other diners don't experience this

We were walking by and decided on the spur of the moment to drop in. We did not have a reservation, but were seated quickly. I had the prosciutto pie (margarita pizza with arugula & prosciutto ) and it was amazing! The crust was tender and chewy in just the right way. My dinner companion ordered the calzone neopalitano and it was super yummy as well. They serve Italian dishes other than pizza and while we didn't have time for dessert we looked at the dessert menu and it looked great. Both of us plan to come back in the future! (The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that it was VERY noisy)

The pizza is so good here and the tiramisu is worth getting for dessert. Reasonable prices too. Service is excellent. I booked a dinner reservation off their site and we were seated promptly. The owners and staff are very nice. I highly recommend dining here! The restaurant is cute and conveniently located near the downtown Berkeley bart stop.

I had been to Lucia's at the Lake Merritt farmers market once before but I finally decided to stop by the brick and mortar location in Berkeley last night for dinner. This place has been hyped up to me for the last year or so and I was excited to give it a shot. My girlfriend and I made a reservation for dinner here at 7:30 PM - we arrived right on time and were promptly seated. The interior is cozy - it has exposed brick walls and nice warm lighting. There are a good amount of tables both indoors and outdoors. With that said , it was crowded at the restaurant so it'd be best to make a reservation. For our meal, we ordered the kale salad ,the Quattro Formaggi pizza with mushrooms, a margherita pizza along with two drinks. I got the Emiliano and my girlfriend got the Italian Mule. The salad was very nice presentation wise. Flavor wise we found it to be a bit lacking though. I was really excited to taste the Calabrian Chili vinaigrette but it was a barely noticeable flavor in there. The red berry glaze was the best part but there wasn't enough of it to make up for the lack of flavor in the rest of the salad. Our drinks were very solid - the Italian mule was saffron forward and I honestly wish I got that instead of my drink. My girlfriend, who doesn't normally like vodka or ginger beer, said that it was one of the highlights of our meal. The drink I did get - the Emiliano - was still very good and had a mild sweetness. After a little wait our pizzas arrived. The margehrita is classic red pie with mozzarella and basil and the Quattro formaggi is a white pie. The pizzas came served with chili oil and chili flakes. Having had the margherita pizza at the Lake Merritt farmers market , and hearing from friends that this is some of the best pizza in the bay, I had high hopes trying it at the actual restaurant. Unfortunately it was a bit of a soupy mess this go around. While the crust was absolutely delicious (though lacking in structural integrity), good crust alone doesn't make a good pizza for me. The sauce was a little too watery for my liking and lacked a little flavor. The chili oil gave this pie a big assist in the flavor department and definitely helped. The Quattro formaggi pizza was my favorite of the two pies we had last night - the mushrooms were marinated and very flavorful and the choices of cheeses were excellent and gave a perfect savory flavor to the pizza (including the blue cheese - which I normally hate). All in all , I found Lucia's to be good, but not great. The crust is definitely some of the best in the Bay Area but the toppings and components of some entrees lacked flavor and that's a big criteria for me. I do still plan to come back and try some of the other pizzas (notably some of the non veg options) + Italian tapas and get a bunch of Italian Mules. Food : 3/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Service: 4/5 Overall : 3.7/5

Saturday evening dinner and we were about 30 mins late to our reservation time but they still seated us. Our server seemed a bit irritated at having to serve us, but if they thought that our lateness was unacceptable they could have simply not given us a table or put us at the back of the line. Anyway, we got the Lucia's Fries ($8.50) and Shishito Peppers ($9.50) to start, both of which were fine. For mains we had the Trofie al Pesto ($21, solid), and The Fall Pizza ($24, very good although a smaller portion size for the price). The food came out in a reasonable time.

This is a cute little restaurant in Downtown Berkeley! I came here on a Wednesday night and honestly wasn't expecting it to be so crowded. The host told us we had to wait about 10-15 minutes but it actually ended up being 25-30 minutes due to the fact that some people dining had stayed longer than expected. I was fine waiting but I will say that the host was not the most welcoming and it did deter me slightly from wanting to dine there. When we were seated however, our server was so sweet and kind and made our meal very enjoyable. Of course, the food was amazing as well. The pasta tasted home made and I thought the pizza was great as well. I don't have anything too special to say about the food besides the fact that it is pretty quality Italian food. Overall I had a great time eating here! Just missing a star for service.

For one it brings back so many good memories, Blondie's always makes me happy. The second reason is they now have 100% BEEF PEPERONI! You heard me, 100% BEEF PEPPERONI! For some people that's not a big deal. For someone who hasn't eaten pork their whole life & always has to avoid getting pepperoni on their pizza, its a HUGE freaking deal. I love, love, love when the rare occasion happens that I get to enjoy BEEF PEPPERONI on my pizza. OK besides that, the pizza is amazing. I was literally closing my eyes and in my happy place the whole time. Now for those that never had BEEF PEPPERONI, please go try it. It is so much higher quality than pork pepperoni, so I've been told. I plan to make many more trips in the near future, thats how excited it made me. By the way I loved the cheese just as much, yum yummy. Pro tip: parking is hard, obviously, downtown Berkeley and all. So either walk, Uber, find parking, take the bus, or do as I do and tag team it and drop off a friend to go order for the whole car and drive around until they are ready to be picked up. Do what you have to, just get there. Now go enjoy yourself, you can thank me later.

I've been looking forward to visiting Pizzeria da Laura ever since I heard about Chef Laura Meyer's…read moresuccess in world pizza competitions. It definitely lived up to the hype. The location is excellent. It's within walking distance of UC Berkeley, just a minute from Downtown Berkeley BART, and there's a public parking garage a block away. Another nice touch is the market next door. They sell pizza by the slice, snacks, and drinks. I would've been there 100% during my college days. The customer service was outstanding. Everyone was genuinely friendly, welcoming, and happy to answer questions. The atmosphere was warm, clean, and inviting. You can watch the pizzas being made, and there's also a TV if you want to catch a game while you eat. It had a relaxed neighborhood feel that made us want to stay a little longer. Having delivered for Round Table back in the '90s, I have an appreciation for the flow of a pizza operation. Everything felt organized and efficient. We started with the Chicories & Beets salad. It was fresh, crisp, and a perfect way to start the meal. We ordered the 18" NY Ray J and the Detroit The Standard. The Detroit The Standard was my favorite. The crispy, caramelized cheese edges were incredible, while the inside stayed light and airy. The mushrooms were perfectly cooked, not soggy at all. Every topping tasted fresh, and the balance of pepperoni, sausage, onions, olives, and sauce was spot on. The NY Ray J was just as impressive. The crust had the perfect balance of crispiness and chew, making it easy to fold. The combination of thin and thick pepperoni, creamy burrata, fresh basil, fermented honey, and Parmigiano Reggiano was outstanding. Every slice came with a great cheese pull. Both pizzas had crispy crusts, fresh toppings, quality ingredients, and just the right amount of sauce. We left feeling satisfied, not heavy or bloated. We visited on a Wednesday, and by dinner time the restaurant was full. That's always a good sign. One of the highlights of the visit was chatting with Chef Laura about dough, ingredients, and technique. It gave me an even greater appreciation for the attention to detail that goes into every pizza, and I picked up a few ideas that will definitely improve my homemade pizza game. I'm actually eating the leftovers as I write this review. They reheat beautifully. The crust stays crispy, the toppings still taste fresh, and they're just as satisfying the next day. We'll definitely be back to try more of the menu. Whether you're a Berkeley local or just passing through, Pizzeria da Laura is absolutely worth the trip.

We were greeted by the friendliest server (a tall guy with curly hair whose name I unfortunately didn't get but shout-out to him) who asked us if we had any questions about the menu. My friend and I had already glanced at the menu when we checked in with the host, so we pretty much knew what we wanted. I did ask our server about crust options though and ended up going with the New York style because I didn't have the stomach capacity for the slightly thicker options like Detroit but perhaps next time with a bigger group! We ordered The Standard, which seemed like a good choice because of the diverse, balanced toppings, and the chicories & beets salad. The salad arrived quickly, and the pizza was brought to our table soon after. I liked how refreshing and crisp the salad was, but the pizza was really what I wanted. It was everything I wanted in a pizza - definitely the best choice of the lineup imo. The crust was so soft and pillowy I couldn't resist devouring it all and leaving no trace. I'm very much a crust gal. Glad the plan to hit up Rose Pizzeria didn't work out so that we could discover this gem. With the various styles of pizza options available, there's sure to be something from the menu for everyone here!

The biggest issue was that the food no longer seemed to have the same level of care and quality. The spicy Caesar, which I had enjoyed in the past, was surprisingly flavorless. The mushroom pizza was decent, but it was overly charred and lacked the balance and attention to detail that once made it stand out. It wasn't bad--it just wasn't exceptional, especially for the price. What made the experience more frustrating is that the prices haven't reflected this decline in quality. Even my spritz felt skimpy, with the glass mostly filled with ice. The service didn't help. To be fair, the staff have never been particularly warm or attentive, even during the years when I loved the food, so that wasn't new. The difference is that when the food was outstanding, it was easy to overlook the indifferent service. Now that the quality seems to have slipped, it stands out much more. Nine months ago, I would have enthusiastically given this place five stars. Now it feels like corners are being cut while the pricing remains the same. I hope this was an off night, but based on this visit, it's no longer the restaurant I used to rave about and will no longer recommend.
