This pizza was a nice surprise. Thanks, LA Parks Foundation!

I tried a couple slices of their pizza yesterday at an Autry event and was impressed with the spice level. Impressed enough that I zoomed into my picture to see where the pizza was from. It was just spicy enough to feel a little in the back of my throat. One of the slices I had was onion and the other looked like pesto and sun-dried tomato. The onion slice seemed to be slightly spicier, but I can't be sure. Anyway, now their name makes total sense.

Solid quality pizza with a doughy chewy crust. We tried them out cause they were offering buy one get one free XL 16" pizzas on Uber Eats, and for $26 we thought it was a good deal. It cost $2.75 to add the smallest amount of bell pepper I've ever seen, but they were still pretty good.

This is the worst pizza I have ever had. Extremely salty, it's not just a personal presence; the kind of saltiness that makes your throat and stomach feel really weird. I ordered it for a group of 5 people, and none of us could ingest the pizza. My stomach is making this weird noise as I write this review. I have never been this dramatic about food. Usually I would leave unwanted food on a table, someone in the house would eat it eventually. The pizzas were so salty and nasty that they are hazardous, they can potentially trigger heart complications. I wish I could get a refund but I ordered it on postmates. We threw the whole two pizzas away. I wish photograph could capture how terrible it tastes, but I'll include photos anyway as a proof of purchase.

Very good pizza in Los Feliz. I got the Hawaiian pizza and prosciutto pollo pizza, good flavor. The texture of the crust was really good crispy but not dry. I would order pizza from here everyday if I could.

Last night we ordered pizza from Lucifer's. We've done it a few times and it's been pretty good but this last order was awful. The pizzas were individual 10 inch ring burner and traditional one was undercooked (doughy!) and both pizzas were delivered cold. Whoever prepared them did it with such a disregard you could tell. No pizza liner in the box Sloppy presentation, sloppycutting, over sauced undercooked. The entire experience was awful and I can't imagine that we will ever order again from that place. There are other pizza spots in Los Feliz and although this is down the street, it's just not worth it.

The thematic notes throughout the…read morerestaurant are embedded in the details, from the plates to the decor on the wall, the bathroom doors, and some of the menu items too. It's the perfect place to get your buzz on before you get yourself to The Greek. Or simply grab some bites and connect with friends in a casual setting. Personally, I choose to sit at the bar, but there are communal tables and more intimate booths, as well as patio seating with the massively tall, old, and iconic everygreen trees along Los Feliz Blvd. to further set the tone. I've been coming here for years just for the oysters. I'm a glutton for those shucked delicacies and Messhall does it up right for a great price during happy hour. On Tuesdays, they're $1 each and Wednesday Happy Hour prices are $2/oyster. They're always fresh and served with mignotte sauce (shallots + red wine vinaigrette). I like to pair my oysters with a martini so I often opt for the Gin Gimlet ($10) because crazy people love their gin. Or if you can take advantage of their Mini 'Tini ($6), then do so. Again, I go for a Gin Mini 'Tini because well, crazy people love gin. However, Vodka is another option for these adorable mini drinks for lightweights like moi. For the carnivorous souls, the Backyard Burger looks filling enough and there's a Hangar Steak with Frites (aka fries) that looks amazing and you can get that for $20 during Wednesday nights, which isn't bad these days for a solid piece of moo. The "Blackened Shrimp Slider" on the HH Menu isn't bad for $3. So if you're jonesing for a cabin-like vibe with a modern twist, Messhall is a good stomping ground for locals, and bar service is always on point. *** FUN FACT: Speaking of those evergreen trees just out front. They're often confused for pine trees, but they're actually "Cedar Deodora Trees" that were planted in the 1920s. They're like a century old now, which further adds to the charm of this area. Now if only they could share their opinions of Messhall. I bet they'd have a few campfire stories of their own to tell. ***

The sides are pretty small for their price. The Crudo only had a few pieces of fish. The biscuits were good, buttery. Happy hour ends at 6 PM, so you could come earlier to get some drinks and then start the oysters at 6 PM. The mai tai was not very accurate, didn't really taste like a true mai tai. Overall, I would come back for the $1 oyster deal, but I wouldn't order anything else next time, only the oysters

They only have a hose A/C in the corner that didn't do much to cool the place down. The food though was amazing! As 2 vegetarians and 1 vegan, we had never seen such an extensive plant based option with not only vegan cheeses but meat substitutes with protein! No wonder they have been ranked #1 for multiple years. The starter bread came in a brown bag and was soft and delicious, especially with the house pesto. You could really taste the basil but it didnt feel too oily. We got the calamari because none of us have ever seen a vegan one on a menu! It was breaded and fried and had a squishy center made of pea protein that I guess simulates the real one? It came with a marinara dipping sauce. I could obly have a few because they were fried and I felt like they were a bit too salty Next the pastas came out - the Pistachio pesto and the fusili with sausage. Both were delicious. The pesto sauce was the same one we had with the bread but the pasta had Pistachio chunks in it as well and generous amounts of pesto. The sausage was chewy and the sauce must've had either the same seasoning or chunks of it blended in because you could taste the same flavor in that as well! We had hopes of trying dessert but these 3 dishes were a perfect size for our party and we had been starving ourselves for most of the day for this (probably due to all the protein included in a usually carb only meal). The service was prompt, dishes came out quickly, and water was always filled. I am looking forward to returning to try all the other dishes!

Service was great, and the wine pairings complemented the meal really well. We started with the calamari and tuna crudo. Both were good, although the crudo could have used a little more brightness and acidity--some extra citrus or lemon would have really elevated it. For pasta, the gnocchi was great, but the Pappardelle Brasato was outstanding and easily one of the highlights of the meal. And then there was the tiramisu--absolutely outstanding. Honestly, one of the best tiramisus I've ever had. I would come back for that alone. Overall, the food was very good, with a couple of standout dishes rather than everything completely blowing us away. Beautiful ambience, attentive service, great wine, and a wonderfully quiet dining room. I'd definitely consider coming back--and the tiramisu is a must.

We arrived midday on a Sunday and we're promptly sat, having been given the option for patio or indoor. We chose the patio, and between the clematis, lantana, and olive trees it is a very lovely setting in which to enjoy a meal. We were promptly brought a bottle of cold water and glasses, and our beverage orders were taken. I had a honey lavender latte with oat milk, and my husband had Lebanese coffee (no milk no sugar.) my latte was fragrant, the perfect temperature, and just the right amount of sweet. The Lebanese coffee was smooth, floral without being perfume, and excellent. We started with the falafel and the batata harra. Both absolutely excellent. For our entrees we selected the shakshuka and the Lebanese egg pie. Both were also excellent. Everything was well cooked, well presented, flavorful without being overwhelmed by any component. We took home a baklava tart, because we simply did not have the ability to eat more at the table. It was tender, moist, not too sweet, the pistachio flavor coming through as nutty and grassy, seriously so good! And it's worth noting, this whole restaurant is gluten free. I would not have realised if I had not known ahead of time. The texture of the pita with the shakshuka was exactly what one would expect, as was the bread of the egg pie. The pastry of the tart was flakey and delicious. And having said all of that, the service is what puts it above and beyond. Everyone was warm and pleasant, and seemed to genuinely appreciate the compliments. Staff seemed like they liked their jobs, which for me is always a good sign.

The only problem is that I always want all of these vibes at once and end up spending way too much money (no matter how hard I try I can never leave without a $12 slice of cake). This kind of space is so hard to find and has to be created organically. It's not so old that it feels stuck in time, but it's not so new that it feels devoid of character and history. We ordered at the counter inside and sat at a cute umbrella shaded table on the patio close to the entrance. We'd already had our coffee so we ordered a big bottle of sparkling water with lemon and two Quiches. I went with veggie and mom went with the Lorraine (ham & cheese). The quiches came out in about 20 minutes and the presentation was very nice. Each quiche was served in an individual cast iron dish along with a fresh side salad, dressing on the side. My quiche was delicious. Full of fresh veggies and perfectly cooked. The salad was a healthy accompaniment. My mom's quiche on the other hand was a bit dried out and tasteless. Sadly, she was unable to eat it. I shared mine with her, and we told the folks at the counter. While they didn't take it off the (pricey) check, they did offer any dessert on the house. I opted for a mini citrus olive oil cake which I took home. Still have not tried it... but it looks good. So the verdict on the Alcove is that it is very cute inside and out. There is TONS of outdoor seating in the front and on the side. There's also lots of cute & eclectic seating inside. There's a beautiful antique bar, neat little seating nook in the back, and a spot for everyone. They have valet parking, and there's tons of street parking on adjacent side streets. Alcove really has some potential and it is a chill, aesthetic, and relaxing place to have breakfast or lunch, work on a laptop, catch up with friends, grab a libation during happy hour, or just pop in for a coffee and a muffin. It may be a little while before I come back to give Alcove another try, but I do believe that it will fully deliver on the second go around. Peace.

Also a side of the Za'atar/sumac fries. Fries came out first PIPING hot, crispy, seasoned perfectly nom nom. The entrees quickly followed. The lamb was so tender and juicy and bursting with flavor. And the fried chicken was AMAZING. Shwarma that is breaded with an amazing mixture and fried. Genius! The plates also came with hummus topped with whole chickpeas (YUM), dilled rice, a cabbage salad and other greens, grilled pita bread, olives and my personal favorite, pickled radishes. Many reviews describe them as beets (which I also love) but these are radishes and they pair so well with the rich meat. An umami bomb! Portions HUGE (we have a full meal waiting in the fridge) and prices very reasonable. Patio is a very fun hang with pretty lights. My only knock is on the chairs which are not exactly "comfy." Could be because it was Sunday and there was a Farmers Market nearby, but still something to consider. We ordered the Lamb Plate ($26). Portion was solid and the plate is actually pretty interesting -- lots of different sides (flatbread, greens, olives, pickled turnips, etc.), so it doesn't feel boring. That said, the lamb itself was just a few small pieces and it was ground. I would've preferred more actual meat Tried the rosemary lemonade too, but didn't really taste any rosemary. Just a regular lemonade, slightly sweet and sour. Also you pay upfront right after ordering. We sat outside on a small patio facing Glendale Blvd. It's a tight space, and at one point someone from the street was walking around nearby talking to themselves, which made the experience a bit less comfortable. Staff was friendly and service was quick though, no issues there. Also, no public restroom, so keep that in mind. Overall, not bad. I was hungry, so I finished everything pretty fast, but it didn't really stand out enough for me to make a special trip again.
