Went here with a friend during happy hour and was pleased by this impromptu visit. It's a nice, tucked away German brewery serving a variety of beer and snacks. Service was super friendly and the vibe was chill. Will come again when I feel being more adventurous with my drinks but I had Guinness and the black rabbit. :) read more

The Good: Lucky Baldwins is open again & has outdoor seating where you can enjoy a (socially distanced) pint & pie just like the old days. Large TVs outside are still (loudly) playing sports-type entertainment. The Bad: service is decidedly slower than it used to be. May be they have a smaller staff than before? Food is still great though if you're looking for proper pub fare & the folks are friendly. The Ugly: people having their smoke breaks in the alley can really make that crisp beer taste like ashes in your mouth. If you have asthma I would avoid. The homeless folks carrying around trump signs & tossing footballs at our table didn't really help the ambiance either. The Verdict: This is still one of my favorite places to grab a beer & greasy tavern food. I look forward to ordering at the bar & enjoying the upstairs landing but until then keep this place afloat so we all can again someday. Terrible. Went there for St. Pat's. They served Guiness out of plastic cups. Not even a full pint. The fish & chips were half of their normal portions, but the price was higher. The chips and peas were cold. When we raised these issues, the server was unhelpful and rude. She told us this was normal for St. Patrick's Day. What an insult to the Irish. read more

Goodness! Best fish and chips I've had in LA for certain, and just as good as some of the best I've had in the UK. Crunchy batter, soft and delicate fish, thick cut fries, lemon and Heinz malt vinegar on the side. If you want fish and chips, this is the spot. Also had a really great, perfectly poured pint of Guinness. It appears the rest of the menu had some great items too, can't wait to try again. Really enjoy the overall vibe - very much like many other dimly lit local beer bars you'd find on a given day, on a given street in Liverpool where people gather to drink pints and watch football. Came in on a Monday night, wasn't busy at all so that was nice. Was serviced quickly, drinks were good, staff was cool. Good vibes over all. I tried their spicy wings, love them, they were perfect. Too many bars make wings that are so fatty but these had a lot of meat and the amount of spice, flavor, dressing, was perfect. I didn't get to try anything else on the menu but I wouldn't mind coming back on a Tuesday to do so. Tuesday because that's when they have their trivia nights. Parking is located beyond the pub. Me and my BFF just finished the Beckham documentary and decided we needed to go to an authentic English pub. I was happy to see that they have a dog friendly patio WITH A DOGGY MENU!! She had fish and chips and I had the chicken sandwich. The food was so yummy. Phoebe was super attentive and brought some water for my pup! She kept checking on us and refilled our waters. Always has been and still is a nice place to meet up with friends for a chat! Outdoor seating is still available and social distancing is definitely practiced! I went during a weeknight so maybe it was a bit more dead, but I personally really enjoyed the not-so-crowded scene. Food Quality: I wasn't a fan of their fish n' chips. The fish was definitely overcooked and dry; the seasoning was lacking, leaving the fish a bit bland without the tartar sauce. Probably won't be ordering it again but I'll definitely look into trying their other dishes! Service: Great service! We were checked on pretty consistently right when our drinks were about empty. It probably helped that there wasn't very many people the evening I went but nevertheless, I would say top notch service! They were nice enough to spend some time helping me narrow down a few selection of beers including suggestions of their own based on my taste preference! Price / Quantity: Pretty standard prices for food and drinks. I would say their selection on tap is definitely all worth trying! Unfortunately, I was told they don't have sampling nor flights so you'll have to hope the drink you choose is satisfactory; or just stick with your known selections. Parking: Definitely easy to find. I used to hang out here when I was young. I guess because I was always drinking I never realized how terrible the food is. We just visited to have lunch and the service was terrible. The fish was a soggy wet mess. We were not asked how we wanted the burgers cooked and they were raw inside and I don't enjoy seeing bloody red meat in my burger. Trying to walk through the crowd to get to the bathroom is just a hassle. If you just want to drink then this is a good place but if want a good meal with your beer it's a hard NO. read more

Last night I got sudden, mad hankering for Fish and Chips as the last time I had them was...2002! I even remember the spot: Catch 56. I got to googling spots and a few popular ones came up (H Salt Fish and Chips, Long John Silvers, Connie and Ted's, Catch 56, and this place, to name a few). I decided to take a chance here given its historical significance to Pasadena (been around since the early 1900's), it's not a chain (I'm kind of a snob this way), and--the Yelp page pictures look finger-licking-good! For starters, this place has a lot going aside from the tasty food. Some of these things are: A) Ample seating both indoors and outdoors--and I mean AMPLE seating, probably fifty tables or so combined indoors and outdoors. B) Free Loaded Crisps when you join the "Pub Club"; the friend I dined here with is a member of just about every restaurant rewards program and Lucky Baldwin's is no exception. The loaded Crisps aren't a bad deal; a substantial serving loaded with chips and cheese and some other components which I honestly can't recall what they are. He was beyond satisfied with his "starter" (massive size, a meal on its own). C) Service: Super, super friendly and efficient servers/bartenders. As for the food: Fish and Chips: I ordered the full size which is a decent portion (not for the gluttonous at heart, which I appreciate for I can only eat so much without regretting it later on the night). The fish is adequately battered, not disgustingly greasy and the cod was flaky, oh so flaky! The coleslaw is good, better than others I've had at other pubs/bars; the tartar sauce (the dish comes with two sides--yay!) was tartar sauce--as in delish, slathering goodness! I love me some tartar sauce on anything fish (Oh, Filet O'Fish Days). The only part of the meal that could have used a little more of a kick were the chips, which are decent but lacking in salt. Nevertheless, I enjoyed my meal. Bangers and Mash: I tried a bite off my friend's dish and it's what's prompted a return trip here; the sausage is DELICIOUS; juicy, savory, oh meaty goodness! The mashed potatoes come with an authentic British gravy which is good, a different consistency from any gravy I've previously tried, but good and compliment the entire dish adequately. The mashed potatoes are creamy and combined with the sausage make for smiling me :) Overall great experience and I'll be back to order me some bangers and at another point a traditional English Breakfast! read more

Good British pub- authentic. This place reminded me of a pub in London. We sat at the outdoor patio. Lunch was pleasant and our server was very friendly. A parking structure is available just south of the restaurant w/ 90 minutes free parking. For lunch, I ordered the fish 'n' chips. Full order- (2 large pieces of cod).. I was starving. The cod is fresh and deliciously beer battered. If you like your fish crunchy and plump, this dish is for you. The garden peas are tasty too. Fries are steak cut and thick. I'm sorry to do this, truly I am but I hate when a place I really like starts sliding downhill. This is what I see happening here now and it pains me. I went in yesterday (monday), around 2:30 for my usual and sat down; no one saw me for like 5 minutes. It was neither crowded or busy. When the worker saw me, he just kept saying how busy he was. He took my order and I waited. And waited. And waited. It was easily 20 minutes before he brought my food out, saying how busy he was. My dish was warm (instead of hot) and dry, like it had been sitting out for a while (I usually wait about 7 minutes). It was barely edible. What amazed me though was how much time this worker had to talk to the women sitting at the next table - maybe that's what he meant by "busy". I really felt disrespected with the whole experience and I now kinda don't wanna go back anymore, which bums me out as I liked going there. But I cannot easily go to a place that doesn't respect the client - we're not always right but we don't deserve to be treated as a distraction. read more

Their food could so easily be your typical bar crap, (Barney's Beanery) but they are levels above that and I love and respect them for it. If you are going to rooter the damn toilets, wait til they are done before seating people inside. Jeezuz what a stench. I have been to this location so many times and I have yet to leave a review. So last night me and my girlfriend stopped in to grab a glass of beer and wine as well as an appetizer while waiting for our reservation at a local restaurant. We had the buffalo cauliflower for the first time and I highly recommend it. It is amazing! This location has never let me down. The food is very good and the beer and wine selection is superb. Nothing is worse than selecting a restaurant to meet your friend, then having to apologize for your choice because the food or service was so bad. (Well, of course, lots of things are worse but you know what I mean.) I am allowing two checks for the Pasadena Old Town Lucky Baldwins off Raymond because they do have a very nice patio and the first time I went it was a good experience. However, based solely on my second and last visit, I would give minus checks if I could. Right away the place was annoying because of the music blasting throughout the small patio which we couldn't get away from no matter where we sat. I'm as much of a music lover as anyone but not when it interferes with ordinary conversation and consists of GODAWFUL HELL'S JUKEBOX WORST OF THE 1970s selections. Beer was OK but the only kind of beer you could get at happy hour prices was IPAs and there are people like me that prefer pilsner or lager. Service was epically bad, the waitress was pleasant enough but it took quite a bit of time to get our order taken and OVER AN HOUR as I best recall to get served after that. You wouldn't think a burger and fish and chips order would pose that type of kitchen dilemma. And it wasn't the crowds because the place was barely half full. To be honest the fish and chips were actually pretty good although they would have tasted better 40 minutes earlier. My friend was sorely disappointed in his burger which he specifically asked to be medium rare but in fact was well-done. Understand that my friend is a former restauranteur who ran his own successful establishment for many years and could not imagine that sort of food faux pas in a decently run business. OK, full disclosure, the cook came out and apologized and they did end up comping the burger. If that was the only problem we might have made plans to return some other day but it wasn't so, sayonara, folks! read more

Didn't eat here but I did have a few beers. Great beer selection. I have to say, the pub itself had a very authentic feel. I felt like I'd been transported across the ocean. I hate to give one of my favorite local pubs a 4 star rating but after noticing a price increase on Guinness and the down sizing to 16oz pints as opposed to the normal 20oz pints I can't help but to head to other local pubs for a cheaper, larger and non rushed pint of the black stuff.
